The last message I posted seems to have filled up the old thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

Since bump size was our last topic, I thought this might do for a thread title.

PS. Re Braxton Hicks. I had one a few days ago as well - just felt like everything tightened for a second. V odd.

According to this page they're normal and you can feel them from "mid-pregnancy" so I wouldn't worry...

ernest · 14/01/2008 10:40

mmmmm chocolate brownie.

I think I'm turning into Homer Simpson

ernest · 14/01/2008 10:55

cs thanks. I know you're right. I know all the theory and tactics re blood sugar stabilisation. problem is putting it into practice.

I am just craving sugar so much, even chocolate which isn't normally my thing. I try to be good at source as it were by not buying it, but then I give in and buy chocolate at the garage when I fill up the car, or I remember a hidden stash of something and just can't fight it.

I buy salad at the shop full of desire to eat well, then get home and stick my head in a bag of sugar, so to speak

goingfor3 · 14/01/2008 11:03

ernest I've also had what feels like Braxton Hicks despite never feeling even one in my other pregnancies. I did wonder if maybe they were the baby moving position, feet against my back and head against my tummy, making things feel a bit tight for a few moments. I guess I'll never know!

CS you advice about healthy eating made me laugh when I saw you had already eaten a brownie!!!!

ChinaSurprise · 14/01/2008 11:09

I know exactly what you mean. Don't chastise yourself too much!
I went through a sugar binging stage a couple of weeks ago and was eating at least a cake and a chocolate bar every day.
I think the most important thing re food (pregnant or not) is to eat EXACTLY what you want - otherwise you'll never be satisfied. Better to eat one choc bar that tastes great than 8 apples which leave you feeling hollow inside and still longing for that chocolate...
I applied this rule from the start of this year after spending a decade with my weight going up and down from diets. I lost almost 20lb in three months without even trying and my weight stayed completely stable for another six months after that (before I got pg)
Now I never worry about food at all.
Better to enjoy life than spent it punishing yourself for liking yummy things I say.

ChinaSurprise · 14/01/2008 11:10

Harhar G43 - yes, my points are
(a) try to keep your blood sugar stable
(b) don't worry if you can't be arsed

PiggyPenguin · 14/01/2008 11:10

Ernest, given that you are meant to want to eat savoury foods when having a boy, and want sweet food when having a girl, do you think that maybe you might have a pink bean on the way????

I can't eat anything sweet at the moment, not even chocolate, which I love, and am having a boy so quietly interested in everyone else's sweet/savoury habits!

goingfor3 · 14/01/2008 11:13

sybilvimes with dd1 I craved sweet food and olives with dd2 I craved savory salty food. With this baby I just want food sweet or savory!

ernest · 14/01/2008 11:20

yikes at the thought

But tbh, jam doughnuts featured heavily in my 1st pg, jelly teddies in my 2nd, can't esp remember pg3, but so far they've all been boys, so I'm afraid I don't fit your trend.

2 weeks on Tursday, mybe I'll find out.

We have discussed names this w/e. Have 2 possible boys' names and amazingly, after struggling to come up with any, managed to find 4 girls' names we're both happy with, one of them a clear runner for me, but we'll have to put it to the vote. But more or less sorted.

Mind you, with ds1 we talked at length, got our shortlist, ds popped out & dh said what about XXX which hadn't even been mentioned and we both agreed stright away, so nothing is cast in stone. Here you're expected to hand the name in at the hospital when you head to the delivery suite. They do the birth registration in the hospital and get mega huffy if you don't give them a name before, but anyway, I think it's a max. of 3 days then that's it. Dunno what happens if you still haven't chosen. Maybe the nurse in charge decides for you, lol

aberdeenhiker · 14/01/2008 11:52

I'm both starving all the time and having braxton hicks - glad I'm not abnormal!

I'm definitely craving junk but I'm trying to eat mostly healthy as my overwhelming urge is just for food. But now a jelly doughnut sounds really really good...

OP posts:
gr1973 · 14/01/2008 13:12

i'm another junk food person too! I have to be well behaved at the best of times to stay away from sweet things but it is sooooo much harder now. Am trying to balance it out by having healthy food too. Have just had some v healthy home made soup for lunch but may have to venture out for some chocolate...

Dont think I've had any braxton hicks though (although, not really sure if I'd know if I was??).

ktpie · 14/01/2008 15:28

I'm constantly eating at the moment as well. Am trying to eat healthy stuff but keep getting drawn to the less healthy options!

debinaustria · 14/01/2008 15:43

I'm like gr1973 trying to balance out the bad things with the good, but I have to say I am craving sweet things and we've got loads in the house still from Christmas!

Feel justified in eating rubbish today as I did 2 decent walks today - and brisk walks at that!

sophiewd · 14/01/2008 17:12

Bananas for some odd reason, and fighting with DD over them, other than that odd things like a few days of jacket potatoes and fruit. Last time it was fruit and chocolate but I was walking a lot with the dog so that kept the weight down.

ChinaSurprise · 14/01/2008 17:45

I've been doing a 20 min march to the train station every morning before work and am going to force myself to start yoga at home tonight - it's been long overdue!
I should get swimming this week too - I've been putting it off tbh.

Parofleurmapu · 14/01/2008 18:10

Hi all

Congrats Josey

I crave apple juice at the moment its all i drink! apple juice and appeltise. Poor dh has to buy me 3 bottles every 3 days!
Apart from that i am always starving but try to snack healthy things( although doesnt always work just eating 3 biscuits) and now going to have nuts and cheese!

By the way updating this list have been meaning to for a while as they have brought forward my due date to 3rd June, which is what i said all along.

Got 20 week scan tomorrow in the big hospital so looking forward to that. Then im going to book a 3d scan for the following week.

RE movements can sopmetimes feel little butterflies and something like stomach churns. But really only feel movement when i press ahnds on tummy. Suppose this is normal!

Well shall let you know how it goes tomorrow eve!

pyjamarama · 14/01/2008 18:48

Hello all,
I am currently 18 weeks with first baby,I have been following (and been amused by) the thread for the past few weeks, but had a bad nuchal scan followed by CVS and cardiac scan, final results on friday, and was given the all clear, so feel able now to join in on conversations about names etc.

Interested to read about scottish boys names, my dh is VERY scottish; his name is Dr James, his father Dr James, his grandfather Dr james, his g.grandfather is Dr james (anyone see a pattern??) I am not keen on continuing this tradition (aside from anything else v. confusing at family gatherings!) Like Angus, any other suggestions/advise most welcome!

Also glad to hear about weight, I have completely lost my appatite and have gained no weight at all! looking forward to donut cravings.

sorry to have gone on a bit.

Upsidedowncake · 14/01/2008 19:06

Welcome Pyjamarama. Very good news on Friday. I bet you're feeling mighty relieved.

Ernest, I reckon if you're hungry, you must need food. Enjoy!

I am still utterly knackered. I walk about three miles a day, and normally this is no problem, and as it's part of my daily routine, I am fit enough to manage it.

But today, I could barely manage the walk to nursery and had to sit down at Waterloo when the train got in. (Nobody stands up for anyone but I wouldn't expect them to as I don't look pg under a coat and the train is so packed, you wouldn't even be able to spot someone who was 9 months pregnant!)

It's teh second trimester. Why am I not blooming!???

GardenAngel4 · 14/01/2008 19:21

Hello ladies and newbies, have just emerged from the dreaded tax return which seems to have consumed normal life for the last two weeks. Still cannot get over how much the taxman taketh away...

Re eating - I had been eating normally till the weekend and then bingo - major munchies. paro am totally with you on the apple juice/appletise. CANNOT get enough of it. Also cheese, ritz biscuits and ready salted crisps (last of which I never normally eat!).

Sweet tooth if it's a girl does have some merit as I basically kept the Creme Egg industry going last time and I had a girl!
pyjama I am 18 weeks tomorrow = when is your due date (apologies if you've already said this somewhere)

xx

GardenAngel4 · 14/01/2008 19:23

PS re scottish names - Alastair is a favourite of DH if it's a boy, but unfortunately I worked for one and it just has too many associations! Does anyone else have blacklisted names?!?

debinaustria · 14/01/2008 19:31

Welcome Pyjama - what great news about your results , glad we've kept you amused during the wait for results.

Parofleur - good luck for tomorrow

Upsidedown - I'm knackered too - I still sleep if I sit on the settee in the afternoon - that's it I'm gone.

GA4 mmmmm I could just eat a creme egg - will have to put that on dh's list for when he's in london. I have lots of blacklisted names because I was a teacher in the UK and so was dh. There are so many associations!

We haven't talked names at all yet, may as well wait until the next scan then it might halve our workload

gr1973 · 14/01/2008 19:58

hi pyjama, glad your results came in. Here in the back of beyond (that would be Edinburgh, Scotland's so-called capital city) they dont do the nuchal fold test, and by the time I had my dating scan it was too late to do it privately... I did however get my blood test results for downs etc back and all low risk. I know its only a statistical screening test but I'm in my mid-30s so worried about age etc.

Mmmmmm, creme eggs - I had my first of the 'season' last week. Well, first two (but not on the same day).

My blacklist of names includes family names, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend names, top 10 names, zany spelling names or anything too unusual.

Have been shopping again today... the cleangreennappy.co.uk had the cloth nappies we were planning on using (totsbots as recommended by the nappylady.co) had 20% so bought all the size 1 ones that we'll need. Let's hope I get on ok with cloth nappies . Quite a few friends use the same ones so hoping I'll be ok...

gr1973 · 14/01/2008 19:59

Pyjama - that should of course read 'glad your results came in ok and you got the all clear'!

Josie57 · 14/01/2008 20:52

My husband has blacklisted Sophie as he went to school with a Sophie who still wet her knickers in secondary school . Unfortunately it was one of my favourite girls names last time round - good job we had a boy!

pyjamarama · 14/01/2008 21:00

Thanks everyone, it feels nice to be able to get excited about baby, tell friends etc. I am due on the 18th or thereabouts.
i also plan to use reusable nappies, although wonder if my principles will be sacrificed for convenience when it all becomes a reality. Does everyone recommend tots bots?
