The last message I posted seems to have filled up the old thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

Since bump size was our last topic, I thought this might do for a thread title.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Upsidedowncake · 11/01/2008 19:54

Everyone, thank you for your name suggestions.

Aberdeenhiker, how about Dougal, Angus, Rory, Torquil?

Josie - re Matthew and Benjamin, I think it depends on how well you know them. I would have thought that the son of dh's boss is fine, but not sure about your old friend.

Does anyone remember the Sex in the City episode when some woman stole Charlotte's baby name? Everyone was horrified. I was more horrified that two people would want to call their child Shaylah fgh!

Sybil, I cannot believe your mil. That portrait story makes me

calebsmum · 11/01/2008 21:47

Got to have a in-depth scan as there is a very slim chance baby might have a heart defect Am trying not to worry too much as the consultant said it more than likely would have been picked up on the 12wk scan and the risk is very low but they want to do a scan in 3wks just to make sure.

As for names, Isaac James for a boy and Lucy for a girl. Also like Matilda, Megan, Evelyn and Lily for a girl.

Bump is starting to feel firm now, less of a beer gut! Am still in normal clothes but trousers are def uncomfortable, have gained 1lb so far!

Sylvia, would have been furious at portrait suggestion!

Anyone got any cravings yet?? I'm really craving strawberries, cherries and chocolate at the mo

debinaustria · 11/01/2008 22:00

Calebsmum - hope all goes well with the scan, let us know how you get on.

cravings - chocolate(no surprise there)

ernest · 12/01/2008 07:27

jules, did you hear from the fmc yeterday for your results or are you still hanging on? Are you OK? Thinking of youxx

disappointed to be on 4th pg and no cravings at all ever

gr1973 · 12/01/2008 10:43

hi calebsmum - hope the scan goes well for you and you're not worrying too much over the next couple of weeks.

Are other people having wierd dreams? I usually have quite vivid dreams anyway but had another strange one last night. I was taking my newborn baby (it was a girl interestingly, as I'm convinced I'm having a boy) to Sainsbury's. I 'drove' the baby there in a supermarket trolley??? Parked it in a mum & baby space (I had been reading a thread last night about parking spaces at supermarkets) and walked round and round sainsbury's for hours on end looking for baby wipes. I had realised that I left the house without any baby stuff and the baby was being a bit sick and I desperately needed to buy some wipes before cleaning her up.

calebsmum - they're all nice names. I know a Matilda, I think its lovely.

At least this wasn't an unpleasant dream, most of my baby-related dreams have been quite horrific and left me feeling upset the whole of the next day.

josey · 12/01/2008 11:46

Hi all just had a quick flick through to see whats what.
Having a nightmare here DD has a sevre throat infection she cant swallow or sleep, but the swallowing is the main problem for getting her anti biotics down her, lovely first night home for DH she was sick all over him in bed!!oh well least it wasnt me!

On the weight front I unfortunatley have reached the 1st stone

On names My DS is Kyle which wasnt popular when he was born but is becoming so now, and DD is Rhianna. we are sturggling this time round boy is most firm at Zander James(after my dad and DH) but we can agree on a girl though have a list forming which is better than last time.

Aberdeen hiker what about Fion or Struan, Ive heard those names but they arent propular

Anyway better go back to sick child.

gr1973 · 12/01/2008 18:13

hi everyone, just had a bit of a strange feeling in my abdomen and wondering if its the start of feeling the baby? Think it my be a bit early though (am 17 weeks with 1st).

I've had some strange sensations for a few weeks - the best way I can describe it is like someone blowing bubbles in my tummy, so wondered if this was the 'flutterings' I keep reading about.

This was quite different - it was like a really strong 'twitch' inside my abdomen and it really made me jump. It happened twice in a short space of time. Not sure if twitch is the right description but it was quite a strong feeling.

josey - hope your sick child is better soon!

Anyway, have party to get ready for so must go but would be interested to hear what kind of sensations everyone else experiencing!

poppy34 · 12/01/2008 19:59

gr1973 - I'm just over 17 weeks now and for a week or so have been experiencing butter flies in my tummy sensation and the occasional series of twitches (Feels a little like wind) - I didn't really know what to think until this happened one night as I was getting ready for bed and dh swore he saw stomach move. So I guess it must be movements...

Weird dreams -I'm right with you there... they are a lot more surreal and I seem to be able to remember them better. This may be as some nights I am really restless, struggling to drop off even though I'm done in and find hard to get comfy....

Impressed with all of those who are thinking of names already -just want to get through 20 weeks scan

katyjo · 12/01/2008 22:14

Hi everyone,

I am so jealous that a few of you already know what your having, although I really did enjoy the suprise when we had ds so I think I'll wait to find out.

I love the name suggestions, particularly Struan, but I think I mentioned it to dh last time and he wasn't keen. We had lists and lists of names drawn up and really struggled to find a name before ds was born but when he arrived there was only one name that suited him, and it wasn't even on a list so I'm hoping the same happens this time as I've been really struggling to find things we both like - nothing so far!

I am full of a cold at the mo, glands are all swollen, my boobs are more swollen as well, bit like when I was bf don't know if its to do with pregnancy, cold or the fact ds jumped on them yesterday!

Glad someone brought up the weight issue, its really odd, I gained about 3stone with Ds started at 10st 3lb ended up over 13 stone. I still had about a stone to lose from last pregnancy and I've put on another 7lbs so although gaining weight at a slower rate than last time still weigh about 7lbs more than I did at the same point last time.
Really hoping not to get to more than 13.5stone! x

josey · 12/01/2008 23:10

Been trying to think of more unusual scottish names, there is Ruaidhrí(said as Roo-ree) and Conniach which are lovely, have only ever known 2 Ruaidhrí's and 1 Conniach both gaelic, Rory and Kenneth incase anyone thinks im over weird, you will never have your childs name spelt correctly though!

The only other boys names begining with D i can think of is Drew obviously short for Andrew and Dean. There was a family where I grew up who were nicknamed the D's the mother and father had 16 kids all with the first initial D where did they find all those names?

Im having a hell of a day, DD knocked over my flowers so have lilly stained water on my carpet, I then over shook the tomato sauce and bounced the bottle off the work top it shattered and I sprayed the sauce everywhere up the walls windows over floor curtains me!!!
Now im being stupid and hormonal over my DH;s ex from many years ago, who is still friends with his mother and sister(he made a mistake marrying me not her!!!) anyway she is going to my sil 21st at the weekend, I told DH to go alone if home as I cant go(before I knew she was going)anyway she has started leaving messages for him about are you excited about party etc Im being over stupid as she taking her bf but jesus she moved into MIL' house for a month running up to our wedding we went to MIL's day after our wedding to drop something off and she was sitting all smug on the sofa, do some people never move on??? My DH is oblivious to all of this typical man style, so now im jsut hoping he ends up having to go back to work quickly, I know its cause I feel like a lard ass and my hormones are having a rave and laughing at me but I feel as though Im going insane please tell me im not? sorry for ranting I will go away now and crawl under a rock if there is one big enough to cover my bum

debinaustria · 13/01/2008 09:06

Josey - sounds like you're having a rough time of it and I too have raging hormones at the moment. You sound perfectly justified though at being p***d off about the ex - moving into your Mil's before your wedding - what was that all about? It's a shame you're not going to the party it would have been good to show off your bump, and the fact that you're having another baby with your gorgeous dh(is he?) whilst she lives in the past and cannot move on.

How's your dd today?

Poppy and Gr1973 - sounds like you're both feeling the baby move for the first time - isn't it amazing. Just don't try too hard to get your dh to feel it yet as it gets very frustrating - you feel the baby move inside as well so you feel convinced that he should be able to feel it outside, but it's not usually the case this early on.

I had some great news yesterday, I've been window shopping pushchairs/prams/3 wheelers on the net for hours, and what I want is going to be more expensive that my budget with the boys. Anyway last time Mil bought the pushchair and Mum bought the Moses basket. mil was a little shocked when I said how much I might be wanting to spend this time , but Mum has come up trumps and said that she'd like to buy the pram this time from a bonus she's getting at work

Off to look at prams now and tell Mil she can get the cot!!

goingfor3 · 13/01/2008 09:40

Josey, I would feel the same as you hormonal or not. She really needs to find a life of her own!

I still haven't found our hamster

Deb - you are lucky to have family around to buy your new baby presents. When DD2 was born IL's didn't buy her anything until she was htree months old and even then it was a pair of too small socks!

goingfor3 · 13/01/2008 09:41

I'll just add that my mum was great though and bought a big pile of clothes when DD2 was born for both girls, so I'm hardly hard done by!

jules43 · 13/01/2008 12:06

Hi All

Very happy Mum to be here. I got my results from the FMC on Friday afternoon, and they were all clear!I was so nervous when the phone rang but so relieved when the results were negative. They also told me I am having a boy!

So I feel I can finally enjoy the rest of the pregnancy, thanks to all of you for your support.

Now I can start posting positive threads, like where can I buy maternity opaque tights for tall women? All the ones I have seen have the gusset round my knees very attractive!

goingfor3 · 13/01/2008 12:08

jules43 thats great news!!! There seem to be alot of boys on this thread already, seems they like to make thier presence known! No idea about tights!

debinaustria · 13/01/2008 13:27

Great news Jules and congratulations on your little boy., you can relax now, sorry don't know about the tights

josey · 13/01/2008 14:21

Big congrats Jules, wow how many boys we can start a football team

Firstly sorry for ranting last night

Debs she is a complete weirdo and your right if only I could go to the party now, there is a possibility I could go but It would involve no ends of hassle but the it would be worth the look on the munters face and of course my DH is lush, well I think so

DD is a bit better, she slept most of the night which was a relief and she took anti biotics with out too much drama this am, hopefully this is turning the corner.

I am having a night off tonight going to the pictures with Mum and out for something to eat, we are off to see P.S I love you, I read the book a few months ago so im going to need a bag full of hankies.

Bub has been very playful today which is nice Dh tried to feel but bub decided to hide, I cant believe I have my scan on Thursday it has crept right up on me.

poppy34 · 13/01/2008 17:39

jules -thats great news on your results - sorry can't offer much help on maternity tights -have you tried figleaves?

josey -there is nothing less attractive than a bunnyboiler and that is what you're dh's ex sounds like.. can't blame you for being fed up though. Enjoy your night out tonight..

debinaustria · 13/01/2008 17:40

Enjoy the film Josey - I read that one too!

Upsidedowncake · 13/01/2008 20:36

Jules 43, that's great news. Congratulations!

Poppy, Gr1979, very exciting with movements. I still don't know if I am feeling them. I guess I am!

Jules, could you use Boots Tall / Fuller figure for the moment, as easier to get hold of?

Just made Nigella's chocolate muffins with ds. They are so moist and delicious, and a great activity to do with ds. Win-win situation (apart from my waistline ...) I should take some into work tomorrow so as not to get tempted.

ChinaSurprise · 13/01/2008 20:52

Evening all
Congrats to all those who've had positive results/ found out the sex in the last few days - so exciting.
All this talk of names has made me think I should have another look at the scary 10,000 baby names book. I think I got to G on the boys section previously, and then gave up, thinking, what if it's a girl etc. Hopefully will find out which section I should be reading next monday!
Drove halfway across the country and back at the weekend to see relatives and had a fantastic time with them despite the long journey. Even had some champagne!
Re the ladies with "fluttering and bubbles" that deffo sounds like movement to me - I had this about a week before I got my first kick - great news . 19 weeks now - the last month has flown by!
Having an early night after all the driving.
Bfn!

aberdeenhiker · 14/01/2008 07:57

Thanks for all the recommendations for boys names... we're so far away from even having a short list a the moment that all suggestions are great. Does anyone else feel like they've used up the best name on their first son/daughter and they'll never come up with another one they like as well?

We went swimming this weekend and I wore my maternity swim suit for the first time. I did catch sight of myself in the mirrors before going into the pool though I'm not looking pregnant as much as barrel shaped! That's the best part of the third trimester - actually having a definite, unmistakeable bump!

OP posts:
ernest · 14/01/2008 08:14

morning all.

am very pleased to hear your good neaws jules, now you can relax a bit

Am feeling lo move around a lot more, esp lying down. now it's pretty much a cert to feel it (with hands, not nec moving/kicking iyswim), but had some movements.

Yesterday I had a Braxton-Hicks Is this normal so early?

I think I know why I've put on so much eight - I am a big fat pig. Honestly, I have an alarming, foracious insatiable appetite and unfortunately really craving sugar. Seriously, I had 2 jam doughnuts and chocolate last night

and this morning I had 2.5 bowls of sugar puffs for breakfast. Sigh. I say to myself I will be good, eat less, eat healthily but I am unbelievably starving! anyone else experiencing such massive hunger? How do you cope? I really don't want to pile on too much but at this rate, well, I will.

Ds3 wass poorly at the weekend, not ds2 is, so can't go to my Italian lesson.

hope evryone's day good

mellymell · 14/01/2008 09:45

Jules - great news about the scan

And very exciting to feel the 'flutterings' for the first time - suddenly the pregnancy feels real rather than just feeling super fat.

Tights - M&S do great maternity tights that are 10 dernier and thick ones too. Trouble is they're bloody expensive, but since I reuse and reuse them (I wear a lot of trousers), I think they're worth the investment. I'm 5ft 9" and go for the 'large' size. Otherwise, I just get normal tights and cut slits in the sides.

ChinaSurprise · 14/01/2008 10:29

Morning

Just a quick eating tip ernest - if you're eating lots of sugary food then your blood sugar levels will be all over the place.
Having sugar at breakfast, particularly the refined sugar in sweet cereals will give you a blood sugar spike, and then a blood sugar low, which means you're bound to be starving within a couple of hours.
Are there things you can eat for breakfast which aren't full of white sugar? Granary toast with honey or marmite is good, as is non-sweet cereal (eg shreddies, muesli) or even fibrous fruit (eg bananas and yoghurt).
This would also mean you're getting more fibre, which will come in handy later in ifkwim.

But I wouldn't beat yourself up too much. I've already eaten a chocolate brownie and it's only half 10!
