Congrats NBG . Can't wait to hear all about it.

Ara - Sorry you are feeling pants. When are you booked in for induction ?

No real progress for me. Lots of grumblings but nothing substantial or regular. i went back to the hosp this morning and my BP is back down which I'm really pleased about.

I'm booked in to be induced next Weds. It's not what I wanted but it's how things are and it really does feel like the best thing to do now.

So I'm currently filling up my mp3 with Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and seeking out trashy literature to keep me entertained. I've decided to regard the whole experience as a kind of beach holiday but in hospital and with more furtling.

sarahloumadam · 07/12/2007 12:10

Hi Ara and LOM - I really didn't want to be induced but the LO wasn't going anywhere without a bit of help and it wasn't half as bad as I thought it might be, I did opt for an epidural because I had already been in labour for a while and I used the opportunity to have a nap! I really hope you can still have the births you want but just wanted to say that not being induced doesn't have to be awful, at least not in my experience . Fingers crossed for you both.

littleoldme · 07/12/2007 12:15

Thanks Sarah - TBH now I've got some sort of plan I feel much happier.

Patient choice and empowerment is wonderful thing and all, but now I'm at the point where I just want to be told what to do.

The MW also said that c'os I've had sweep and will be 42 weeks that induction is more likely to work quickly.

littleoldme · 07/12/2007 15:46

Ara - I'm not going to log to mn few days. If want to e-mail me so we can share the waiting it would be lovley to hear from you. If not, I hope everything goes well and I'll be thinking of you. [email protected]

RGPargy · 07/12/2007 17:52

LOM - why are you fleeing MN for a few days? Hope everything's ok. Big contraction bearing hugs. x

Ara - Sending you massive contraction vibes too. Make sure you spare some for anyone left over!

Thanks ladies!

LOM I will email you this evening - I'm going to be around tomorrow and will be into hosp at 5.15. The lovely MW who came today thought the LO would be out by Tues morn at the latest.

Wish I could get to the point of accepting this gracefully but I feel v disappointed, particularly as it has turned OP and could be very difficult (or long & sore) labour apparently.

I'm sure the cat knows there's something awry she has been extremely clingy and super-attentive all day!!

Thanks for your post Sarahlou- everything i seem to be reading about induction is all doom and gloom so it's really good to hear something positive! At my appointment on Wednesday my cervix was apparently nice and soft and I had a little show for about a day after the sweep so that can't be bad.

TBH I have had such a nightmare with a really terrible injection phobia, I am really frightened of having to have an epidural or a canula fitted. I've managed to have two anti-d injections now, after being sent to a specialist by the consultant at the hosp (v embarassing but I've managed to avoid syringes ever since a dreadful incident when i was 6 yrs old so the jabs during pregnancy have been a big hurdle for me to navigate!). Hospital just doesn't have any 'safe' associations for me so think that's why I am turning into such a nervous wreck after being so delighted to have been allowed home birth and feeling so excited about actually having the LO.

Thanks RG - my antennae are twitching!!!!!!

iris66 · 07/12/2007 19:50

ara - just to add to the positive stuff, DD and DS1 were OP and it really wasn't that bad. I was induced (synto drip) with DS1 (with Elliot they broke my waters and everything kicked off within 30 mins so they didn't need to put me on a drip)and the only thing I'd advise is ask them to put the canula into your arm well away from your wrist then you wont even know it's there. You'll be absolutely fine I'm sure. good luck

ara · 07/12/2007 22:24

Thanks Iris -that's encouraging to hear....fingers crossed i start off with the waters being broken and hopefully then everything will go okay

Hi all,

I feel so much better today after having almost a week of sleepless nights.Tyler slept better last night, only kept me awake for two hours, feeding, then went back to sleep until 8am.

MW came to weigh him yesterday and it was good news as he had gained weight (+200gm)

Sarahlou: Milk came in on the 3rd day. Boobs have been over flowing since and MW advised using ?cabbage leave to relieve pain.

Pixie: Tyler is 7days old today. After last night, I do hope that things are changing. He even put himself to sleep at some point.

NBG: Congratulations to you

LOM: Sorry to hear that you will be away from MN for a while. We (am sure all of us) will be thinking of you and sending loads of labour vibes your way.

LK2boyzma · 08/12/2007 13:45

Sarahlou: I could not believe it when I rang the MLU, only to be told that it was closed . I cried and the woman thought I was crying because of pain, but I was so hurt that I was not going to get the birth that I hoped for.

You would think these places would be available to people 24/7 as they are supposed to relieve pressure from the hospitals!

sarahloumadam · 08/12/2007 14:09

LK - didn'trealise you had had similar experience re MLU being shut. Was defo a low point in the labour for me! Such fab places that just can't understand why they are not used more - has been virtually empty every time i have visited. going back there after hospital was surreal - like going to a spa retreat! Glad the feeding settling down, I love bfeeding but was unprepared for the amount of time i would spend doing it!

ChocolateHobnob · 08/12/2007 14:30

LOM - just wanted to say I know how you feel - I was induced at 41+6 and the waiting made me soooo fed up! My induction ended in c-section BUT it wasn't cos I was induced - actually my body reacted very quickly to the prostin and had dilated 4 cm relatively quickly before a pathological trace led to the emergency c-section. Baby had cord around neck twice and would have been same if I hadn't been induced. Anyway GOOD LUCK and same to you Ara. xx

ara · 08/12/2007 15:41

Thank you everyone, Just had a nice big bowl of soup made by lovely DP and re-packed my previously scanty labour bag - was so convinced i wouldn't need it that it was a very half hearted effort!!!!

MW told me yesterday the baby would be out by early hours Tuesday morn by the lastest.

Tuesday morning???????!!!!!!!!!! Crumbs, I was expecting to have it by tomorrow lunch-time!

Bit early for festive emoticon but DP and I went and bought our Christmas tree this afternoon so I had something nice to do while 4.30 looms - so feeling a tiny bit festive....AND when i went to get the decorations from the garage a teeny weeny bit of snow fell so i'm taking that as a good luck sign!!

I will report back when I'm back at home with LO finally.

Thanks again to everyone for kind words it has made me feel a bit less agitated

RGPargy · 08/12/2007 15:46

Good luck ara. Enjoy your final weekend as a non-parent! Put your feet up and enjoy the P&Q.

Hi everyone!
i have to catch up now coz i seem to have missed so much!
ara- just wanted to say that my LO was OP all the way up until i was about 4cm dilated and then she slowly started to turn the right way! fingers crossed your LO does too!

LOM- hope your ok? i felt better knowing i had a date to be induced too tho didnt want it! luckily she beat the appointment by two hours ! thanks for the clothes again- they have really come in handy as our washer dryer has decided to stop drying things (its only 3 months old!- same as the cooker which also broke this week..!) and theyre not coming out till Mon to fix it and prob will have to "order in the part" ... ! so the more clothes the better at the mo! would have been lost without them! love hitchikers guide! am keepin my fingers crossed you wont get the chance to listen to it tho!

xx

sam86 · 08/12/2007 23:14

aww have just caught up!

congratulations rgpargy, loopy, nbg and sarahlou!! loopy - i am v jealous of your quick labour!! sounds like it was quite dramatic though! hope your feeling well now.

silkcushion- i am a mess! think i should have applied some st tropez with the first contractions.... !

rg-is your birth story up? am dyin to read it! (i might have missed it am quite scatty last few days!)

Raimee is BFing so well, have been really suprised as i expected a lot of problems (maybe i shouldnt say that so soon!), she had only lost 3oz at her first weigh in on 3days, and at the 5day weigh in she had gained 6oz! stitches are starting to sting (feel your pain RG!)- apparently as a doctor did them hes put knots in them on the outside whereas MW said they would have ended them under the skin without knots- and so the stupid knots arent falling out and hurt and she wants to pull it out on wed - its too sore! any tips?? maybe i can convince her to let me put bonjela on it first!! x

BunnyBaby · 09/12/2007 11:17

Still here along with the other lateys. My reflexologist did a priming treatment on me yesterday which wiped me out. I woke up this morning a 6.30am with very gentle contractions 6-7 minutes apart. And now feel like I have constant period pain. Hopefully this is the start of something. The rain has stopped so me and DH will go for a walk shortly to see if we can help get things moving along. It also feels like the baby is grinding down further into my pelvis.

RGPargy · 09/12/2007 11:28

Sam - hello there!! My birth story is up on this thread somewhere. Failing that, you can find it on the November Post Natal thread too. I didn't put up an official birth announcement coz i think it was up about three times already lol. Glad BF is going well for you. I'm loving it too but want to get someone out to check my latch. As for stitches, i have found that putting some witch hazel on your clean pad when you change it really helps. I have only done this since yesterday and wish i'd done it sooner! It's really helped to take the sting out of them.

Bunny - Good luck!! Hope this is finally it for you!!

sending birthing vibes to anyone left

BunnyBaby · 10/12/2007 13:55

Hi guys, still here.

Not too worried as midwife here today, and said all mild regular contractions a good sign, and as I am a healthy 41 weeker - just what she'd expect from a first timer.

She is a bit annoyed at hospital revising due date at 20 week scan. LMP date would have been 3rd Dec, and they revised forwards to 28th Nov.

My midwife is an independent and the hospital involved induced another of her clients as they scan dated her a month forwards, and when she was induced at '42 weeks' she gave birth to a perfect 38 week old baby. This caused the mother a massive amount of stress when faced with induction because hospital got dates wrong .

Lovely midwife is ringing hospital today to let them know I'm not going in for monitoring until friday If I'm still pregnant by then .

littleoldme · 10/12/2007 17:10

hi chaps not caught up but lots of love to anyone left.

I've been having contraction every 5-10 mins since 7pm yesterday and am still hardly dilated..

Am bloody knackered but have just been given some v strong codine which should make things easier tio deal with and should mean I'll get some sleep.

Have an induction appt on weds but will call up, cry and stamp my feet for them to do it 2morrow if nothing else happens tonight.

Hope all goes well for you bunny - tonnes of love
