Hi Annainz - thanks very much for your posting. Yes, none of the other markers for downs were there and the dr said the echogenic focus didn't change my chances of downs at all based on nuchal fold/blood tests(so still 1 in 9000) - so have become a bit more objective about things over the last week. Thanks again! Good luck with your dd!

Ara - I did have my guiness and curry and very nice it was too !

Bunny - The Nice info on induction is useful . I put a link up a couple of days ago.

Well I went for my sweep this morning but the MW couldn't do as my BP has sky rocketed. I'm off to the hosp this pm for assessment. Not what i expected but I feel remarkably calm.

Hope all goes well for you today NBG

Hi ladies!

Wow, what an amazing experience!!

I'm still reeling from it all so dont have much to say at the moment (that's a first!), but will post up my birth story a little later.

Ellie is beautiful and we are so very proud of her! Her pic is on my profile.

She's not feeding very well at the moment tho. She latches on fine, has 2 or 3 sucks and then comes off and that's that. Is this normal? The MW told me to "cap feed" her, i.e. put some dreaded formula in the cap of a bottle and tip a little into her mouth just so that she gets something inside her. Has anyone else had to do this?

aikigypsy · 05/12/2007 16:52

Congrats RG -- You are online very soon after the birth! I figure the little ones come out a bit tired from all the work of labour and need a couple of days to really take an interest in feeding. At least that's how mine was.

Wandering over to post-natal now...

Pixiefish · 05/12/2007 17:10

RG- perfectly normal for her not to feed for a couple of days- she's tired and traumatised form the birth. Your colostrum is high in calories for her and is enough for her. Don't give ehr formula

littleoldme · 05/12/2007 17:54

Rg - She's beautiful - I'll be round for a sniff later

Loopy - Great news that things are starting to move along for you. XX

Pixie - I'm so pleased for you that Swyn is starting to out weight on. you must be v relieved.

Well the bp is ok now. It was 130/90 and is now down to 130/82. It doesn't sound that high as high bp goes but mine has always been mega low.

I'm going back in for more monitoring on Friday morning.

Having been so adamant that I don't want to be induced, I now don't really care. I'm tired sore and utterly peed off.

LK2boyzma · 05/12/2007 18:45

OOOOOOOOOOOOh congrats RG and Sam.

Sam you beat me to it, you got your birth story on here already.

Here goes:

Had a successful sweep on friday, lots of advice from the MW about what else to do to get things going. Had a hot curry for lunch, half a pineapple and DH was eager to do his bit calling it 'his sweep'. all this must have helped because at 0230am, all round pains started. Came every half an hour. When morning came, they started coming every 15mins. I had a shower and noticed some reddish discharge, thought it was too red so I rang the birth center. GUESS WHAT, it was closed Damn, I thought, this is supposed to be open 24/7.

At that point, I had no choice but to call the hopsital. They asked me to go in. The MW strapped me to a monitor, did an internal a little afterwards, said I was 3-4 cms. later transfered me to the labour ward at 1230pm.

Paced about on the labour ward, pains disappeared for a while, had my waters broken at 1700hrs, then established labour was in force. Then I started using some gas and air, at 2030hrs, was 9cm dilated and then it was shift change. Thankfully the MW who came on was even more wonderful. At 2122hrs, Tyler was born, stitch free, which really made my day!

Did not feed him straight away, but when I did, he was a natural at it. He slept well that night, all the more reason why I managed to post that night, but since then, he has kept me awake all night, feeding for hours on end.

He is lovely, he weighed 3,45kg.

Pics will be on soon.

LK walks off in PN thread direction

LK2boyzma · 05/12/2007 20:07

Can I just add that it is important to keep yourselves hydrated (drinking a bit)as dehydration causes the LO's heartrate to go faster. I had this problem and had to be asked to drink lots to stabilise the heart rate.

RG and Sam - Lovely photos of your little ones.

Little- Fingures crossed for you, sorry you are feeling sore, but it does come to an end Hopefully you will beat the friday appointment.

superloopy · 06/12/2007 05:12

Well I feel like the most pregnant person on the whole planet today!! Now 41+2 and baby still not engaged. Saw a midwife today and have been booked in for an induction next Monday but am truly hoping to have had this little man before then!!

It is 32C today and I am melting... Well that and devouring icecream!!

Am fed up with all of my house guests too. My Mum knows to give me space but my MIL is getting on my tits!! She is due to fly back to the UK on Mon so may just miss seeing LO completely...(he he he evil giggle!!)

Well that's enough moaning from me. Lovely birth stories and pics from you lucky enough to have your babies. I hope to join you asap!!

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 08:40

Morning everyone!!

Well i'm back and my daughter is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! We are so proud of her, she's a little angel! She doesn't cry for very long but when she does, she gets really stroppy (like her mum)

Anyway, here's my birth story:

As you'll know from the labour thread, i'd had a show Tuesday morning which basically didn't let up at all. DP got me to phone the hospital at around 9pm just to let them know what was going on (i'm far too laid back for my own good). The contractions at this point were coming about every 10-15 minutes and lasting for about 30 seconds. I was told to ring back when they were about 5-7 minutes apart and so an hour later i was on the phone to them again. A midwife eventually turned up at 11.30pm to assess me and told me i was 3-4cm dilated. By this time my hind waters had started to leak a bit so i knew it was deffo going to be soon.

It got to about 12.30am and the contractions started to become alot more painful (hence the lack of posting lol). Then at about 1.45am the mw suggested i get on my knees and lean over the sofa to try and ease some pain. So i got down on my knees, leant over and then POP GUSH !!!!! My waters well and truly broke (thank goodness for the plastic sheeting from the pool!) and i felt really helpless being on all fours with all this stuff gushing out of me! The mw noticed that there was meconium (sp?) in my waters and then told me i couldn't go in the pool. GUTTED!! By this point however, i was in far too much pain to really care and couldn't move much anyway!

She called for a second mw at this point (!!!) and then told me to resist any urges to push for as long as possible. I held off for as long as possible and could feel the baby slowly moving down my birth canal. It was the weirdest, most amazing feeling!! It got to the point when i could feel the baby's head getting extremely close to coming out so i told the mw that i didn't think i could hold on for any longer. She told me go ahead and push and I felt the head easing it's way out. Apparently DP said it was so surreal when he saw this little face looking up at him from me! So then i pushed her shoulders out and she shot out!

And what was the first thing i said?!! "OH MY GOD!! IT'S A BABY!!" I think that despite all the scans, the kicks etc i still didn't quite believe that this little person was going to come out of me!

Oh I should mention that i did it all WITHOUT ANY PAIN RELIEF WHATSOEVER

I had to have stitches because of second degree tearing, but to be honest, it wasn't that bad and i finally managed to have some G&A for that!!

All in all it was a wonderful experience which DP and I will obviously remember for the rest of our lives. We've both been like blubbering grinning mad people since she's been born. It's wonderful!!!

Super - head never engaged for me either.

They offered me choice of CS or Induction at hospital. After 13 hours on hormone drip - still not engaged and only 1cm dilated. I think I knew he wasn't going to deliver, but got talked into trying. Hope things don't come to this for you - but if so, be clear about what you want!

iris66 · 06/12/2007 10:10

Blimey - last few LO's coming thick and fast now! Congratulations Loopy and welcome to Orla!

choudru · 06/12/2007 12:16

CONGRATULATIONS RG!!!! Ellie is beautiful and I love her name

You sound like you feel great about the birth, despite not using the pool. Am so made up for you

And no pain relief?!!!

I agree with Aiki and Pixie - Sara didn't feed much in the first 36 hours. She had a suckle when she was born and then one about 3 hours later, but then nothing really for another 24 hours.

I would just keep putting Ellie on the breast periodically to stimulate your breasts into producing milk, but don't worry if she doesn't seem interested in drinking much. They are super sleepy the day or two after birth. Sara would have slept 7 hours at night for the first week if I had let her. I had to wake her day and night for feeds because she was so sleepy.

Don't give Ellie formula just yet. I'm not sure why your MW suggested you need to 'get something inside her' - I thought babies were born with a reserve so they don't 'need' the calories just yet - they just need the colostrum for it's benefits to their immune system etc.

Have we had confirmation of Loopy's baby yet?

Super loopy - I hope LO arrives before monday!

LK2 - congrats to you on the birth of Tyler - very of you having no stitches. Glad to have you join us on the postnatal thread. Hopefully now it will get more busy. We're all so knackered on there that posting is not as prolific as it is on here.

Congrats to Sunny and anyone else I have missed. More pressure on the preggie ladies now!

rachaelsara · 06/12/2007 13:09

I was going to wait and let Loopymumsy announce, but I'm not that mean! I'm Loopy's doula, and I am hugely pround to tell you all that Orla was born at home yesterday at 5.42pm, a beautiful 8lb 6oz! I'll leave it to Loopy to tell you all how unbelievably quick and fabulous it was!

Nbgdoesnthaveachristmasname · 06/12/2007 13:21

Oh well done Loopy!
Congratulations

RG, your little girl is beautiful. What a great birth you had!

Well after waiting most of the day yesterday, I had a phone call at 3pm off my MW to say that there was no one to come and do my sweep . I was gutted for the rest of the day.
But anyway one of my normal MW's has been out today and done it.
She said that my cervix is still quite thick but she didnt want to say whether I', favourable or not because she couldnt really tell.
However since the sweep I have been having some pains. Not regular but different pains/tightnings to normal. More painful
So I'm hoping that shes managed to do something.
With regards to induction though, I've asked them if they will let me go to term plus 14 rather than 12 which they are ok with but if I go into labour after monday I still have to go into hospital

Anyway, I'm going to brave it and nip to town now!!!

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 14:12

Congrats Loopy!!! How weird is this?!!! We've had three babies born on 5th December (mine, Loopy's and Choc's) and each one of them has weighed 8lb 6oz!!! Now that is some super cyber labour vibing going on!!

Choudru - I cant believe i didn't have pain relief either but to be honest, i didn't really have time to think about coz it all happened so fast!

Nbg - good luck to you and i really hope it happens soon!!

ara · 06/12/2007 15:07

Congratulations RGP and Loopy! RG your story is amazing!

I am term plus 12 today (sympathetic vibes to Nbg) - had sweep yesterday which was quite uncomfy and had little shows afterwards and a teeny bit this morning but nothing since then.

Managed to get them to delay my induction appt til 5.15 on Saturday so that gives me another 24 hours to get this baby out naturally! V sad today at the prospect of drug induced labour, it's not what i wanted at all and my MW's go off call on Saturday morning so I will lose my and LO's chance of lovely home birth if things don't start happening tonight or tomorrow night.

I feel like my body isn't working properly, it's soul destroying!
