Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sabinar · 27/11/2007 15:45

Lots of people started maternity leave this week, didn't they? Maybe they're all taking advantage of being away from a computer all day!

I'm sure it's just a matter of time until they miss us and come back

fluffymummy · 27/11/2007 15:51

Hi everyone!!

Just dropping in quickly for a couple of minutes - I'm determined not to end up 4 days behind!! )...

Journey up here was ok-ish, although blinkin' Easyjet were complete (insert rude word here) about my 'fitness to fly' doctors letter. My GP had written the letter after she saw me last Wednesday, so it was 5 days old. Apparently that's not 'fresh' enough...they wanted a letter written the same day or the day before (bear in mind, this was a Monday!) because (and I quote) "anything can happen in 5 days"....grr....!! My personal favourite was the woman who patronisingly told me it was for the baby's own good, as tho somehow I was an unfit mother for wanting to fly at 31 weeks to Glasgow FFS !! Anyway, they finally saw sense (and agreed that their website didn't specify when the letter needed to be issued) and let me on....but I was so grrrrrr!!!!

Right, off to meet the Glasgow MN ladies in a minute...hope everyone is well??

Thanks for all the good wishes and stuff - cold is slowly getting better and my back is no worse than it was in London (ie killing me today!)....so yes, Susie, I will look into osteopaths when I get back

Barristermum - are you free for coffee next week?

Katie - maybe a bit obvious, but can you take your friend an IOU for some home-made meals for when she gets home from hospital?

9dragons - are you ok?

TENS - I borrowed my FILs and found it really helpful - mainly, as someone else said, because it helped distract me and gave me an illusion of control

Right, off to the coffee meet, hugs to everyone, catch up soon, xxxx

susiemj · 27/11/2007 16:31

LOL at Easyjet story. Although it must have been very annoying. As if you need telling how to look after your baby! And as if, if you did want to harm it, their intervention would really make any difference. I've got a very sincere S.E.Asian girl in the local pharmacy who does big eyes, with slightly raised eyebrows and gestures towards my tummy when I go in EVERY TIME for my HG medication. As if the doctor might not have noticed I was pregnant, or, if the two of us were hell bent on poisoning my bean, a slightly raised eyebrow and concerned expression would put a stop to it.

Actually, I did see a new doctor the other day and she asked me if I was currently pregnant. I am HUGE! She was suitably embarrassed when she looked up and I said 'Yes, 33 weeks', with my eyes just about appearing over the top of my ever-growing beanie-bump.

I have had a total bed day today. Don't know what's up. I can't keep my eyes open. Thankfully have tea and novel

Waves to madmouse, gingeme, sabinar and amani . Are all those other girls being showered with leaving gifts?

gingeme · 27/11/2007 16:46

susiemj I think I would have poked the pharmacy girl in the eye tbh
My Mum has just rang and apparantly her and my Dad are coming up Thursday to bring our Christmas pressies up. I did mention to her that Im going out to eat with 'the girls' and she politely mentioned 'oh I love chinese'
Whos coming then? Any offers? Shes not that bad realyAbout 7ish again?
anyone?

LuckySalem · 27/11/2007 16:51

Hi everyone,

Feeling quite lethargic (oh get me) today. Just been to my mum and dads for lunch. Battered cornbeef, cauliflower, sprouts and jacket pots. MMMmmmm My fave dinner ever.

Took all the baby clothes i've had to theirs to get washed (our washing machine is dodgy and don't want to ruin them)

Me and DP are doing ALL the wallpapering in the nursery tomorrow. I started but only managed to get 3 pieces up and then got annoyed so DP is going to wallpaper and i'm going to paint.

Got apt with hairdresser thurs. Don't know if anyone has looked but there is a pic of me on my profile and i'm getting it cut from where it is to above my jawline and spikey short! Not as short as Jael (ANTM FANS) but not much longer. Am scared but happy, feel abit more grown up at the thought of it.

Thanks for the tip about the cot, will give them a ring if DP agrees.

Well sorry, am not so good with the catch-ups hope everyone is ok and hugs to all lurgy typed people.

susiemj · 27/11/2007 16:57

It's quite tempting to poke her in the eye, gingeme, sh'es got a real bambi look to her. It makes you want to do bad things.

Gingeme - have just checked out hairstyle - You know the post where she put four links? Well, I like the first and last.

Yes! Truly I am resigned to doing NOTHING today!

madmouse · 27/11/2007 17:09

susiemj I was quite shocked about the opposite the other day. I went into Boots to buy dry cough mixture for DH, woman at the counter asked normal or non-drowsy, I said normal cos he uses it at night and likes the drowsy effect. She just gave it to me, never asked if it was for me, can't be very good for bump to take it. Now I am fairly neat, but bump is rahter obvious (except on public transport )

susiemj · 27/11/2007 17:14

They can be shocking. I had a pharmacist tell me that a Spanish cold remedy I had only contained paracetamol and vitamin C and I could take it. I was sceptical and went to another one who looked it up properly and it had an antihistimine, and about four other things completely impossible to take while PG in it!

mixedmama · 27/11/2007 17:25

Afternoon ladies,

Havent caught up with anything yet, just checking in. Am about to do a mammoth catch up now. Hope you are well.

hello all

re birth pool and padding from ages ago;
we bought a cheap carpet offcut to go under pool, then plastic sheet. carpet then got chucked after. and we have slate floor and i never noticed.

Amani · 27/11/2007 18:17

Hiya folks

Susiemj- lol @ your doctor - good that she was embarassed.

Fluffymummy - good that Easyjet were 'taking care'. Take it easy with all the flying. i thought it was about 34 weeks you are not allowed to fly without a doctors note anyway??

Came back from docs. DD got an ear infection which explains her sleepless night...

beller · 27/11/2007 18:30

hello!!

I wentto lunch at 11.30...and went home at 4! Tis the life..the MD was there, so desk couldnt say anything! Off tomorrow, then another lunch thus and fri..beats working eh!

Feel the same about clothes...have a few that still fit..but looking fwd to wearing something different....still trawling the web for trendy nursing tops Think I might have to have a trip to bluewater and try a few on....

Hope everyone is well xxx

fluffymummy · 27/11/2007 19:11

Hi again

Just back from a lovely long coffee/herbal tea meet up with Mrsmcjnr and Ayrshirelolo...hurrah!! I can't admit this anywhere else (even to DH ) but meeting up with them was definitely a major 'pull' in the whole "should I/shouldn't I travel to Glasgow this week" decision Anyway, we found each other remarkably easily (altho Lolo had an embarassing moment ) and could probably have gassed for hours longer....so no surprises there

Anyway, just a quickie to tell you all what you already know anyway - they're both totally lovely

MixedMama - where's the major catch up gone? And how are you honey...I've been getting worried about you...

Also, has anyone seen Toomanyshoes recently??

So about Thursday's chinese (yes yes, I know, I've been to 2 meetups in 2 weeks) - I will actually be back in London but we have to drive up to Manchester on Friday night to visit my grandparents (they've been really ill and haven't seen ds1 for about 8 months, let alone met the bump) so I really really really do need a night in on Thursday...oh, and DH might not be too impressed if I went out after being away all week instead of watching Heroes with him . Even so, I'd love to meet the rest of the North London MN January posse

Amani - Easyjet now demand letters from 27 weeks, so my irritation was that I've flown with letters 4 times already, and they've been 5 or 6 days old each time (the letters!), because those are the days I can see my GP between trips....and until now, no-one has cared!! Actually, its worse than that, as last time (10 days ago) I even checked whether there was a 'best before' date in terms of GP letter and was told categorically that a week was fine....

Right, off to do some work, since I bunked off early for the meetup. Hope you all have lovely evenings, and will catch up on Thursday when I'm home, if not before.

Love and hugs and a good night's sleep to all, Fluffy xxxx

LilyLoo · 27/11/2007 19:39

ooh sounds like my kind of work Beller.
I really wish i was finishing this week am just so tired but know i shouldn't complain when i think how tired i really will be soon. Just counted and got 11 days of actual work left.
hope all ok Amani esp dd poor thing.
Forgot to mention when midwife was talking through things we needed for home birth she said make sure you get some waterproof floor covering (obviously) or not as her last hbirth the woman had bought shower curtains that weren't waterproof hence messy cream carpets!
Here's to a good nights sleep to everyone

LuckySalem · 27/11/2007 20:54

I'm sitting here feeling sorry for myself now.

Watching Lemur Street and the little baby lemur has hurt his leg and can barely walk, so he's just climbed a tree to get some dinner and nearly fallen onto some really sharp leaves and I'm sitting here sobbing into my hands! lol - How these documentary people just watch it happen i'll never know

Feeling sorry for myself as well as I've hardly seen DP so far this week we're like ships crossing in the fog. He works nights so he gets in at 7am and by the time i've woken up (cos I just don't sleep at the moment) he's ready for bed, gets back up later and goes to work.

I'm expecting it's a hormone and sleep depraved thing but I just can't seem to cheer myself up at the moment.

Anyway, speak to ya all tomorrow I expect.

ayrshirelolo · 27/11/2007 21:12

Hiya all!
Thoroughly enjoyed meeting both Fluffy and MrsMcJ this afternoon, and yes guys, they are both really lovely women! could have stayed talking for hours, although think the dh was a bit nervous about me going off to meet folk i'd met on here... he sent me 3 texts asking me to bring milk home!
I see Fluffy's already blown my cover by telling you i had an entirely MORTIFYING moment... Well, there is a shop and a cafe called Grassroots (where we'd arranged to meet)and as i was a teensy bit early i went into the shop first for a look about and whilst there spotted a nice looking lady with a comparable bump to mine who looked over and smiled at me.... so i went charging up and said "hello, i know this is an odd question, but by any chance are you here for the anti natal meet up?" to which her answer was......... "no, Oh god, i'm not THAT fat am i?" OHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!I wanted the floor to swallow me up and there wasn't really much i could say apart from "sorry" and bolt for the door!
How bad was that??? Just grateful Glasgow has about a million people in it and i'm unlikely to see her again, but still just awful!
Despite that i had a lovely afternoon / evening which just shows you how nice fluffy and mrsmcj are!! Anyway, got home in time to read dd a story before her bed, and now gonna have an early one myself!
Beller, enjoy! Madmouse, hope you're ok Susiemj - doctors, eh? not paid to be observant then!I too would have poked the pharmacist....! Hi to everyone on thread, sorry for not proper catchup, >>> night all! lolo xx

ayrshirelolo · 27/11/2007 21:15

Lucky - sending you a wee hug, all i can recommend is chocolate... and hope you feel better soon! ((((hug for LuckyS)))))) lolo x

LuckySalem · 27/11/2007 21:17

Got no choc, was gonna eat gateau but its not defrosted yet. Lol at asking the fat lady bout being preg. That's something I'd do! lol

nicky6 · 27/11/2007 21:46

ayreshirelolo very funny made me laugh

susiemj - it was me with the tutti bambibi suggestion - glad you like it they are coming to assemble ours on jan 5th. I normally do that kind of stuff as dh thinks that reading the instructions to anything is boring - i didnt fancy cot falling apart

On the TENS machine issue boots have an offer on at the moment and they are selling their one for £30 about £15 off, and i thought well as they cost £25-30 to hire might as well buy for the same price

Case is bloody difficult and everyone exhausted - and they are not 7 months pregnant. However the bonus is that sleeping straight through the night occurs every now and again and when i wake up for a toilet trip i go immediately back to sleep.

Was sat in court yesterday at quite a crucial point when i suddenley felt this massive bulge sticking out under my ribs - i could barely move or breathe whilst trying to take a not of evidence and lift files of papers - what grewat fun.

Had brilliant news tonight one of my friends who has been trying to get pregnant for a while just rang me to say she is 12 weeks excellent news

must go hi to all

LuckySalem · 27/11/2007 23:09

Lloyds pharmacy were (not sure if they still are) selling TENS machines for £15!!

Amani · 28/11/2007 08:24

LAST DAY AT WORK TODAY - HOOOORRRRAAYY!!!

Can't wait to be off, although I have a meeting this afternoon that I need to get out of the way and done with first.

BeckyAu · 28/11/2007 08:25

Good morning ladies!
You probably thought I'd fallen off the side of the planet? But no, I'm still here but STILL in the middle of house renovations which I have to say is frustrating me like crazy now. On the original schedule all should have been finished last week but the builder sems to just moan all the time about one thing or another and then isn't going to finish til Dec 14th.... we STILL have no heating and hot water, though the kitchen gets fitted next week thank God. So my apologies to you all and I admit I've had a little read up on all your antics and promise to come back in more regularly now.

My belly (although the midwife says it's neat) is pretty blooming big now and like nicky6, I keep getting bulges an kicks under my ribs which makes me catch my breath as it hurts! And I guess it'll get even more so as little baby grows. 6.5 weeks to go and still so unprepared. I talk to the bump suggesting coming early would be a bad idea as it currently has the only warm place in the house and so best to stay put

Anyway I wanted to say hi and wave to everyone and hope you are all ok. And to Lolo... thank you for making me laugh - if it's any consolation that is exactly the sort of thing I'd do

Hope you all have a lovely day xxxxx

susiemj · 28/11/2007 08:55

Amani - congratulations on last day - I hope you get showered with gifts - or at least samosasa (if it was you who was getting yummy food?)

Lolo - oh it's brutal when you've put your foot in it! LOL though!

Hello Becky - Hope the mildish weather (and beanie) stays put until your all fixed up

I checked out the TENS in Lloyd's and it says 'not suitable for pregnancy'. Wonder if it's the same in Boots because that's a BARGAIN Nicky6

Nicky 6 - And LOL over the cot. I've had to resign myself to my husband doing it. I usually do these things. I can never quite get over his first bit of DIY 5 years ago - which was to 'fix' our dining room table by hammering a nail through the middle of it. From the top! i think he knows I have passed a sacred trust on to him this time!

Lol too over the beanie action. I can;t imagine what it's like in the middle of the trial. It was bad enough when my bean was exploring my internal organs at the same time DH was trying to talk to me on some serious subject. It prompted stern 'are you listening to me?' questions. I treid to explain that when another person is wading through your viscera from the inside it's a bit difficult to keep rapt concentration. I was PMSL.

How are you today Lucky? Sorry you've been down. Are you getting enough yummy food and sleep? Yesterday I had a total crash day, ate an entire bar of chocolate (I mean the supermarket one!) and read novels and drank tea all day in bed. It's not what I'd usually do but I feel much more perky today. Keep us posted as to how you're feeling. Maybe it's time for a complete indulgence day?

madmouse · 28/11/2007 09:25

Lol too at beanie moves . My beanie loves doing weird actions while i am in important meetings, like boxing with the desk when I was taking notes in a disciplinary hearing or re arranging body parts in a meeting at the Home Office. Last night he was making me say ouch and oof during a bible study!

Talking of beanie moves, am sleep deprived, he has been remoulding my stomach wall all night long, where does he get the energy

LilyLoo · 28/11/2007 09:43

LOL Lolo whoops!

Have a fab last day Amani let us know what lovely things you get am very

Agree you prob need an indulgence day Lucky poor you hope you feel brighter soon

Beckyau sounds very difficult at the mo let's keep our fingers crossed you get it done by the 14th then or at least baby stays put like you say, i really don't know how you are managing and try to find some time to rest in all that chaos.

Great news for your friend Nicky!

Agree madmouse all strong movements herre tend to start about 10.30 just as i am heading off to bed so am pretty near exhaustion when i fall asleep regardless of how much karate is going on in there!

Hope evreyone else ok xx
