OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LuckySalem · 26/11/2007 13:11

Awen - Meant to say, if you want a cheap reliable and good car. I've got a citroen xara (T-reg) its got a bloody big boot, cheap to run and tax and insure and most of them are in 5 doors. Plus they're quite cheap to buy. Got mine (50k on the clock) for £1300.

gingeme · 26/11/2007 13:15

Good afternoon all. Sorry but Im not even going to attempt to catch up my brain realy could not cope.
We had a good weekend. My stepson was down for the week. We drove him home yesterday and it was a very comfy ride in out new car. He lives in Cambridge in a village called Chatteris. The thing is I used to live in the next village along called March with my ex. We went to have a look at my old house. It has changed alot. I didnt hang around too long though in case they thought I was some kinda nutter. Satisfied my curiosity though as it had been 10 years since I las saw it.
We went to Mothercare World this morning. I have finaly finnished my Christmas shopping I also had a look at their new nusring tops. Not too outlandishly expensive and they were quite modern without being too flouncy. Think I might add a couple to my wardrobe nearer the time.
Well thats enough from me for now. Hope you are all well.
Are we still having our meet up this week? If so what time do you want to meet? And where? Outside the place or inside and hope we all find eachother?

madmouse · 26/11/2007 14:12

Beller I am also quite looking forward to the birth, like 'bring it on', yes it will hurt but then that is the way it is supposed to work. Just read Sheila Kitzinger's book on birthing at home and she has all these thoughts about it being a sensual experience, positive, about opening up rather than being painful. Not convinced, pretty sure it will hurt, will just deal with it .

7 months today, woohee

madmouse · 26/11/2007 14:43

gingeme, how do you all find each other? Guess! You will make a pretty picture, a gaggle of bumps . reminded me a few weeks ago I went to meet someone in Costas and I did not know what she looked like so I thought how will I find her? She found me, no problem .

By the way, I still find it funny to realise that it no longer works to turn sideways to pass through a small space...weird.

beller · 26/11/2007 14:45

madmouse..thats what Ina MAy gaskin book is like! Nothing that our body wasnt designed for thats the theory anyway..but you can tell its my first! hahaha

Oops i asked how the meet up was, and forgot its this thus isnt it dur!

anyone got any views on tens machines? Im thinking of buying/renting one...there are so many different ones...one better than another??

sabinar · 26/11/2007 14:59

Beller, Madmouse - I'm also quite looking forward to labour... weird to say. Like you guys I've been doing lots of reading and thinking about it and now I'm thinking - bring it on! Hopefully I'm not completely underestimating it, but I guess better to approach it from a positive than negative perspective?

I just had a visit from my midwife - I so love my midwives, they are the best. All good news - everything is checking out just as it should so v happy about that. The next midwife visit is the 'birth talk'... not sure exactly what that involves but it sounds serious!

After that we're onto weekly checks - guess that means everything is getting really close now! yikes!

My house is now looking much more under control since this morning and I've made some lists and even ticked a few things off... feeling much better. But also getting that 'might go sort out that wardrobe' feeling. Weird.

Beller - I was asking my midwife about TENS last week and she was a fan. She said the main thing is to make sure that you get a 'maternity' one because you can get non-maternity ones (eg. from eBay) that are not suitable (for some reason). I'm pretty sure I'm going to hire one. (Oooh, that reminds me... another thing for my list!)

Amani · 26/11/2007 15:10

Afternoon all. Lurgy finally got to me and at home now . Slept for 3 solid hrs and now tucking into a somosa while watching ER re-runs.

Agree with beller am looking forward to the birth. Am tryongto be positive about it all and the onky things that worry me are the internal examinations and having stiches. For some reason not too bothered about the contractions - although it prob will do so when i strart experiencing it.

Where's MM today?

madmouse · 26/11/2007 15:37

Sabinar, maternity tense machines have a boost button for the peak of your contractions, normal ones don't.

I thought about it, jsut like I thought about a birth pool, but I know myself and I will become irritated by them. May spend time in the bath once sufficiently dilated (ie 5cm plus).

beller · 26/11/2007 15:40

So all the pregnancy tens are the same? or do the same thing?

I have just had that company on the phone again about filming the birth! hahaha They want to come round and "have a coffee" so i can see they are not scary! Said it would just be the 2 ladies and a camera the size of which you would take on holiday...ok...what about the maybe millions that might see it after!! hahahahaha

Amani · 26/11/2007 15:41

Beller - is it still a no then?

beller · 26/11/2007 15:43

madmouse - you dont have to wait to get in th ebath until youre dilated...different effect to the birthing pool because of depth . Thats what we were told anyway friday by NCT teacher? xx

madmouse · 26/11/2007 15:50

Beller, thanks for that info, but I am impatience impersonated, so the very chance of slowing down labour will probably keep me out of the bath until I am sure it won't .

madmouse · 26/11/2007 17:14

Looks like everyone has gone home already or is working hard today. I am off home now, antenatal with my GP tomorrow morning, see yous laters xx

LilyLoo · 26/11/2007 20:04

My birthing pool arrived wohoo
Beller are you going to do it ?

Naetha · 26/11/2007 20:19

Anyone got any advice on cot-beds?

We had a look at the Ikea ones, but they looked a lot cheaper and tackier in the flesh (wood, whatever!) than they did on t'internet.

Just want something nice and solid and functional.

LilyLoo · 26/11/2007 20:23

sorry i only got cot but has been solid this will be third to use it as i got it new from Mothercare for ds for £150 still same price so would reccomend there for durability have even been able to get some spare parts for it i.e screws we have lost.

susiemj · 26/11/2007 20:24

Somebody on this thread - sorry I can't remember who - suggested Tutti Bambini - which we got and it's really nice. We got the cheapest one.
here
Awen got a good deal from Argos that also looks really nice. I think it's called Prague and it comes with a dresser and something else.

LuckySalem · 26/11/2007 20:25

Naetha - I hear ya me darlin' I've been trying to get a cotbed for the past month and can't find one cheap enough to suit my DP's pocket.
Ebay seems to be the best place to look for them but I wonder whether it's worth getting a 2nd hand one.

susiemj · 26/11/2007 20:31

Just looked up Awen's one but the picture has disappeared.

It's here anyway.

MamaMaiasaura · 26/11/2007 20:58

Will read and catch up properly but susie is right. We did get hte prague set and we think it looks really nice. Wasnt too tricky to assemble either. Love the fact that got whole nursery matching.

Ex-p dropped ds's cot round to me yesterday (minus the screws etc.. he will drop those in later). It will be really handy for our bedroom as cotbed will be too big to move in there. Feel very luxurious having a cot and cotbed and mose basket

gingeme · 26/11/2007 20:58

Hi me again. Yeah I guess that would work madmouse just look for the group of 'round' ladies.
Who will be coming?
Does everyone know where it is?
What time shall we meet?
Bump is going mad this evening. Hes definately running out of room now. Feeling rather squishy. DH goes back to work tommorrow. Must say Im rather glad. Hes begginnign to drive me mad now. Hes only back to work for 7 days though then hes on 2 weeks annual leave. Still we will be decorating our room so that will keep him busy for a fair while
I have never used a tens machine to be honest. I think I will be spending the beginning of my labour in our bath too until I am ready to be ushered off to hospital.
Well hope you all have a good night sleep. xx

MamaMaiasaura · 26/11/2007 21:08

Naetha - interesting re the Focus. What was it that made it uncomfy? I am used to a corsa which seems quite similar but smaller. Driven a friends focus and seemed ok. Still really tempted by Saab 900 though. I know the bugabo fits in boot as tried it out. NOt looked at mazda 6 but will have a look. Going car hunting all day tomorrow with my mum. Re the cotbed thing the one we got is very solid and smells lovely too, fresh pine. The wardrobe and dresser/changer unit is solid too with special safety things on drawers to stop them falling out on the baby. Altogether cost £299 and included a mattress, although i will be getting a new mattress as it isnt a sprung one.

Beller - it is good to feel relaxed about the whole birth thing. I am just getting a bit twitchy. My dp and mum are my birth partners and havent been to any antenatal classes this time round as none available. They expect you to know it all after having one.

Lucky - I am leaking too. Just body getting ready, find it a comfort because it means that boobs are doing what they should . I still havent 'fully' packed my bag. dp hassled me on phone today about it. Sounds like he might be getting lurgy poor guy. He is working 12 hour days and feeling like poo.

Gingeme - waves These babies are def geting bigger!

Right - house is finally on market YAY!, car hunting tomorrow. DP has now suggested i get a cleaner asap for a couple of hours a week as wanting ot keep house super nice for viewings. Am absolutely knackered only just got down from putting ds to bed. Had a fair few strong BH today and had to stop a few times for quite painful ones. Ah well, just body getting all in shape i guess.

LuckySalem · 26/11/2007 21:18

Hey as long as it's not just me i'm happy.
I haven't reached the whole "bring it on" stage with labour yet. I'm more with the ARGH this will hurt!! lol

MamaMaiasaura · 26/11/2007 21:36

lol lucky. ALthough my best friend didnt go in to hosptial for ages as she didnt think it was hurting enough... when she got there she was already 10cm!

MrsMcJnr · 26/11/2007 21:46

Hey ladies just had so much fun with my friend putting jungle stickers around the walls of Beanie?s room it really looks like a kiddie?s room now our camcorder (Christmas and birthday presents for DH and I from my folks) arrived today so we need to get our heads around how that works! Not filming the birth itself but definitely Beanie being weighed etc

Luckysalem ? glad to hear all is well with you how annoying about the tour it was our usual MW from the health centre who did our tour, all the MWs there ignored us

Lilyloo ? LOL my presence after the birth will depends on what type of baby I get I guess

Mossy ? I?d love to come personally but it?s a bit far from West Lothian!

Awen ? tasting baby food game, ugghh! when is DP back? Hope you get a quick sale hon. LOL at you waving at Naetha?s boss!

Amani ? so of your mat leave decided to book a pedicure and manicure on my first day of mat leave, ring the changes with any other day hope you have a better night?s sleep and feel better soon.

Hey Beller hadn?t heard of tablets of raspberry leaf I?m going to rent a TENS machine. I started a thread about it and was told a good and cheap place to hire it but can?t remember apparently the ones where you can control each set of pads separately are the most help. Elle Tens I think is one make chuckling again about your televised birth one of DH?s aunts was on Panorama in the 70s BFing his cousin ? the cousin is still mortified!

Fluffy ? hope you are feeling better, am looking forward to meeting you tomorrow at Grassroots at 4pm and you Lolo and hopefully Angel too

Naetha sounds like it is all coming together at your house

Sabinar LOL when ever I panic, I buy more cotton wool! so glad to hear the ankle is feeling better

Susiemj sorry, really didn?t mean to sound patronizing about your baby?s size why is it anyway that MWs are more interested in one?s partner?s birth weight than your own when it comes to assessing your baby?s? That WAS such a nice changing bag! By the way, my nighties from eBay arrived today, perfect, not too short, not too long, not too thick nor too thin and very practical I?ve been having birth dreams too but must start listening to the hyno CD!

Lulubump ? hope you are taking it easy
