i wont be having a sweep on tues will i?!? will she prob mention it?do you have to go to hosp for them?

Nbg · 25/11/2007 14:01

Oh god that reminds me, we need a blind for the bedroom I'm having the baby in!!!!!!!!
Otherwise the whole village will be watching him being born!

I have all my MW appts at home because of my stupid anxiety and panic attacks.
I dont do medical things shall we say lol.
So they come to me whenever.
I'm really lucky that I have a fab team of MW's here that all understand and are all amazingly gorgeously wonderful

This cupping thing you talk of, do you mean where they press with their thumb and fore finger near your pubic bone?
I think the more your baby is engaged the more uncomfortable it is.

I've just discovered Wilkinsons online and got some brilliant xmas stuff. Loads of stocking fillers and pressies for dd and ds and managed to sort out the really awkward task of getting dh's grandma a gift

Nbg · 25/11/2007 14:03

sam, sweep rules vary in different areas I think.

Here they dont do them until you are a week overdue but will do them at home for you.

I had one with ds last year exactly a week overdue and went into labour 3 days later.

sam86 · 25/11/2007 14:14

yeah i think it is what you are describing- i hate it, feels so horrible! first time it made me feel sick for about an hour and go really hot! they said i was 3/5 engaged two weeks ago so hopefully more so now!

your midwives sound brilliant! hope you get that blind sorted tho!! neighbours wont know whats hit them lol! bit worse than flashing nips after BF!! (tho ive prob already done that ive been so hot throughout this preg!)

was the sweep painful? i dont know if i like the sound of it!il have to see what she says on tuesday, il be 40 +4 then, it says in my notes that theyl book you in for a sweep here at 40+10 so have got another week!!

yay on getting your xmas shopping done (tho wish you hadnt told me bout the site coz now i am browsing it!lol)

what date are you due? i cant see it on list! x

littleoldme · 25/11/2007 15:21

Sam - The party was quite good fun ta. I didn't stay long c'os i was so tired but it was good to get out for while.

Your MIL/ At the birth NOOOOOOOOOOO. The very thought of mine being there, fab though she is, fills me with horror.

JARM - Re your car window. Dunno if it is the same thing but ours used to do that. It would go up at angle and then get jammed against the inside of the door. have you tried pressing your hands against either side of glass at each end in turn and kind of pulling it straight? Hope that makes sense. It worked with ours. Good luck.

NBG - Sounds like your MW team are really looking after you.

RG - You are right re my freinds -I'm really fortunate. I've got three close friends who aren't working at the mo, two of them are on mat leave. We are all rather good at looking after each other and I'd be lost without them. BTW I think we are nearly ready for a new thread

tonysmum · 25/11/2007 16:37

Hi all, Just a quick message to let you know I had my baby boy (Xabier) the 12th November by cesarean section, we are both doing well. I haven't had a chance to read the thread for a long time but I want to wish congratulations to all the new mums!

JARM · 25/11/2007 16:38

Re the car - we have tried everything now, my brother came over and tried to sort it, but we cant get the interior trim off - grrrrr

BUT

on the plus side, Dad has just paid for a new car for us off ebay - an R reg nissan serena - big ass mum bus! DH, dad and bro viewed it this afternoon and bought it! We cant pick it up til saturday though, so a black bag over the window will have to suffice til then!

will pop my heap of crap on ebay for £150 and see what happens lol!

JARM · 25/11/2007 16:38

awww congrats tonysmum!

sam86 · 25/11/2007 16:48

congrats tonysmum!! hope your recovering well!

LOM- pmsl bout scaring the girl guides!! glad you enjoyed the party! am jealous your friends are on maternity leave too at same time! none of mine have had kids yet and would be made up if we were in same boat!

jst wanted to ask- have any of tried tens machine with prev labours/ or are going to use them this time? just seen on boots site that theyve reduced the price to buy their own tens labour device to pretty much same price as rental- might go in and buy one this week if youve found them useful? mw at antenatal didnt think they were worth it but she also said not to bother with electric pumps which i have done based on other peoples recommendations! (sitting there pressing the handle every two seconds on a manual didnt appeal!)

brill bout the car jarm!! i want your dad!! hope you get a good bit on ebay- help towards not pg wardrobe (sorry am fantasising about clothes shoppin today!)!! dp has got me one for xmas but am gettin it this week so he can rent his out (hes a private taxi driver) while hes not working for next few weeks so still have some income! (tho i wont be driving it yet coz am only on a provisional but after baby is born and am feeling ok i will be!)x

just been reading about sweeps and wanted to ask - can the midwife check to see if am dilated at all and how "ripe" cervix is without doing a sweep? am guessing its a yes (i bled really heavily early on and they checked for dilation then so it must be yes i suppose) but just want to be sure! dont think id want a sweep till past 41wks but would like to know if looks like am ready!

thanx loopy! think i will just buy one too, theyre £30 at boots to buy at the moment, and if hire it might have to wait too long for it! might go tomorrow and get one! anything to try and make the pain less must be good! your right bout that midwife- she was really good at the classes but i didnt agree with her on some of the recommendations! looking foreward to the live labour feed lol! at the moment i want to know everything about everyones labour am so scared! x

Congratulations Tony's mum. YAY more babies to sniff.

Jarm- Glad you got your car sorted out. LOL at big red mum bus.

Sam - I hired a machine from the place Loopy reccd and it arrived on time and in fine working order. All of my freinds with kids have used Tens and found it helpful.
I'm the complete opposite. We are the last of of our mates to have kids so have been given more stuff than we can use. If you fancy taking some sleepsuits ( I have 42 in new born !!!) and vests ( 38 in newborn at last count) off my hands, I'd be more than happy to chuck a bundle in the post. e mail me at [email protected]. If not - no probs.

RG - What did we do before the internet. Not much!!! I also seem to recall spending ages flicking through the yellow pages looking for places to get things.

RGPargy · 25/11/2007 20:14

Sam - lol @ your dog and the horsemen of the apocolypse! I think i know what you mean re the prodding to find out if they're engaged or not. I think i remember having to breathe out when the MW felt me the other week. It was slightly uncomfortable but i cant say it made me ill or anything tho. Maybe it's coz i've got more padding than you or summat lol. As for sweeps, i'm just having mine at the mw appointment. Think they just rummage around so i wouldn't have thought there's any need to go to the hospital for one, although i could be wrong.

NBG - I think you're lucky being able to have a sweep at home! At least you can chill for a bit if you're in discomfort!

I also agree about having MILs at the birth. A bit NOOOOOOOOOOO from me too!! I love my MIL to bits, but there's no way i'd even want her to see me BF, let alone giving birth!!!

LOM - i will sort out a new thread soon. I'm just trying to think of a suitable title for it. We'll have a new one by the end of the evening i reckon. Your friends sound ideal!! Glad you had a nice time at the party. I hear ya with regard to not staying long tho. I remember how tired i got when i was DJing at 33 weeks! Oh and LOL @ flicking through the Yellow Pages to find shops to go to!! That is just sooooo true!!!

Tonysmum - Yay!!!! Congratulations!!!! Looking forward to your birth story and pictures (of the baby, not the birth!).

Jarm - Yay!! Your dad really is a star isn't he?!! Brilliant!

Loopy - glad i'm not the only Christmas-phobic person! Well i'm not THAT bad, but it does piss me BIG time when i see Christmas stuff in the shops in September/October. GGGRRRR!!! I take our decs down on 5th or 6th January, which is the 12th day after xmas i think.

I've had quite a busy day today. We went to B&Q but couldn't find any suitable chests of drawers. It was all crappy stuff but way over priced too. So then we went to MFI and although it was much nicer stuff it was hugely out of our price range (£270 for a chest of drawers???!!!). We decided to just go online instead. We would shop at Ikea but they dont deliver to us and the thought of going there at this time of year just fills me with the horrors lol.

However, we DID end up buying some lovely eyelet suedette type curtains for the room and a picture for the wall too. We also picked up the cot from DP's parents' house and have now set that up in there too. It's looking like a proper room now!!

Think i'm going to Toys R Us over the road tomorrow to find a cot sheet and duvet set.

OK, i'm officially ready now. COME ON BABY!!!

I've updated the list to account for Tonysmum's lovely bundle and i've also put Nbg on the list too. Dont know why she disappeared off the list!

I am going in for an induction tonight and Monday morning. I've spent the past three days doing all of the mechanical home induction techniques apart from castor oil -- sex, nipple stim, long walks, acupressure, and acupuncture this morning, also some recommended labour induction foods last night and today at lunch. In another 5 hours I have to go in for cervidil and if that doesn't work, pitocin (same as syntocin) in the morning. Not pleased.

LO is going along just fine in there, and I wonder if I'm doing the right thing. I know I was right to delay induction until past 42 weeks, but surely she'll come out on her own before too long? OTOH, I have been having frequent, mild, irregular contractions since about the 8th, and they're driving me insane. I also worry that the hospital staff will completely lost their cool if I go longer.

Off to take a nap in preparation for a long night. .

But tomorrow, I will have a baby!

RGPargy · 25/11/2007 20:21

Oh good luck Aiki!!!!! Hope everything goes well for you and am very that you'll have your bundle tomorrow!!!!

Good luck Aiki - thinking of you!

My dad is the best, so I am a very happy girl tonight.

Getting pains 10 mins apart here.... but keep tailing off to more like every 30 mins, so i know its not the real thing, but hopefully means little man is thinking about making an appearance!

Have slept a lot tonight, so will probably be up half the night! Still got "digestive discomfort" ffs and heartburn is HURTING BAD! Rennies are my new best friend!

Didnt have turkish delight for breakfast - went to mcdonalds instead but have just sat and scoffed some now! Still hungry though, so am off for my daily fix of Squares Salt & Vinegar crisps!

Take care all, will check in if anything happens!

jetgirl · 26/11/2007 21:06

Have had a proper chance to catch up now. In the 3 weeks I was without MN 16 of us had babies! Congrats to the rest of you!

I'll put my birth story on the post-natal thread, which I'll visit for the first time in a minute - how exciting! And I'll add some pics to my profile too.

I was able to do my coat up for the first time in months today, I couldn't even do it on Saturday, so it shows how quickly you can get some semblance of shape back. DD still insists on coming to pat my belly and saying 'hello baby', even though I've told her that William is that baby! And if I keep eating all the chocolate that people have bought me, I probably won;t be able to do my coat up again soon!

RGPargy · 26/11/2007 21:11

Looking forward to reading your birth story!! We've all migrated to a new thread OVER HERE
