LOL @ Loopy! I use that tactic as well! In fact used it for getting DH to scrub kitchen floor last night. Which hormones are responsible for the increased manipulative behaviour during pregnancy I wonder...

I am still here bump and all. Bump has definitely changed shape again - all to the front and lower. Also have increased discharge (sorry for TMI) - not sure if this means anything.

Had BH last night but they stopped once I got into bed.

Littleoldme - I got my Bounty voucher in a bounty pack I picked up from St James at one of my scans/consultant appointments. You can use it at Boots or ASDA but if you use it at ASDA, you get a £5 voucher that you can use on George baby clothes. You also get a mini sudocreme (great for changing bag) and a couple of free samples of washing powder, wipes and fruity flakes.

You could ask the midwife at your next appointment.

As for feeling overwhelmed - make a to-do list - it takes away half the worry. Also make sure you classify list into essential jobs vs 'nice to get done' jobs.

Like Loopy said - you never know how you're going to feel about LO once it arrives. Not everyone falls head over heels in love with their little bundle. There are definitely days when my love for DS was and is severely tested!

My friend told me she had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. Poor thing. She has a DS already and seems to be taking it very positively but I do feel for women going through such things. It just makes me feel so lucky.

Any info on Clary Sage would be very welcome LK2 - I did notice LO was a bit hyper when I had my soak the other day. But maybe it was because I was noticing it more?

littleoldme · 22/10/2007 11:31

Loopy / Choudru - Thanks for the pragmatic advice. I'm feeling much more relaxed now I've woken up properly and had two cups of tea I am very good at making lists but not always too hot at looking at them once I've made them Today I will be mostly building a chest of drawers so at least I can get the nursery organised. God bless John Lewis.

Mum's coming tomorrow to help me do hosp bag shopping whilst I set step dad to work in the nusery - so things are coming together quite nicely.

littleoldme · 22/10/2007 11:32

PS - Sorry to hear about your friend Choudru. V

JARM · 22/10/2007 11:35

Morning all!

I wonder if a lot of you are still in bed?! Very quiet here this morning!

Its a really pants day weather wise today, so trying to get lots of house stuff done - but not successfully! I have no energy - just really cannot be bothered! Poor Dh is being ordered to do stuff, when I know he isnt up to it (health wise) or happy about it but I think he wants to save the ear-ache!

Kitchen floor needs mopped again, so might do that later, girls room needs painted, but we need to re-do the ceiling which means i need to go and buy a tin of white emulsion as we have run out. Also need to pop to the bank to put a cheque in so I can buy DD2 a birthday present - cant believe my "baby" will be 2 on thursday!

Ironing didnt get done last night either - i had a bath and read my book in bed while DH did the first coat on the ceiling in the girls room so guess thats my job for today too!

35 weeks exactly today - seems weird writing that - brings it home that with any luck in 5 weeks time I will have a cute little bundle to cuddle and sniff for hours on end!

I wonder if i can find anywhere in town near the bank that sell wispas.... i think some therapy is needed!!!

silkcushion · 22/10/2007 13:00

I'm awake Jarm. Well I'm up and about but mentally possibly not quite with it. Very tired, didn't sleep all night.

Want to just curl up in bed but have dsc here so need to get going. We're off to do pottery painting this afternoon. Dsd's birthday request - she loves doing it and I am more than happy to oblige cos I love it too

Then I have to find the energy to get to yoga this evening. Always feel better after I have been but can never be arsed to go beforehand.

Sorry if my wooly shorts comments have given some of you nightmares!!

Right somebody kick me so I get going.

JARM · 22/10/2007 13:13

Well just back from the bank and homebase! Made the mistake of carrying the big tub of emulsion from homebase to the car (i parked at the other end of the car park!) so am feeling rather sore now, but it was my own fault!

Roll on kids going to bed tonight so I can get painting!!!

Plan on chilling out this afternoon, well as much as you can with 2 grumpy toddlers and a messy house!

Where is RGP and Iris today?! Better not be in labour!!

Morning all!

I've been reading but not posting as I've been for about a week.

Marnie's lying obliquely (head at 5 on a clock, bum at 11) and there was much talk of inductions and caesarians! Hence my sadness! It made me realise that I'm terrified of being induced. Anyway, apparently the induction stuff was poor information and so I'm either up for my home water birth, if she turns or a caesarian if she doesn't. Fingers crossed for me....

We really are on the home strait aren't we, it's SO cool!

I'm 37+1 today!

RG - I loved the sound of all the presents you received when you went on mat. leave. Space NK is a good place to have vouchers for, enjoy spending them!

Pixie! - Blimey! a baby of your own!

Silkcushion - Dreams of woolly shorts. I took the precaution of immac-ing (Veet-ing) the life out of mine a week ago (not stricly intended but it's hard to see where you're applying the cream when you've got 37 weeks of bump ahead of you!) I figure that in this case perhaps less is more!

I did some excellent baby stalking on saturday. I calmly disarmed daddy of his gorgeous 6 month old and stood around cuddling the living daylights out of his son whilst simultaneously side tracking mummy by sending her in the direction of cake! Thank goodness these folk are my friends!!

Today, I was angry, but now I've calmed down. Here's why my angry thread My question to you ladies is, should I send the link to DP. I'd love to as I think it'd stop all this rubbish but I think I was a bit too harsh in it, even though it's all true!

A quick update on our building site house! The plasterer is finished and out. Hooray! Lovely chap, never been so glad to see the back of someone before (plaster dust related of course!). And though my decorater is in cyprus till next monday and my cleaner's (who I pay for doing a pretty poor impersonation of cleaning my house) stated that she couldn't possibly help clean up after a plasterer so I'm doing it myself, I don't care. Those nesting hormones are finally being given some air time.

I got so giddy about bleaching the bathroom to within an inch of it's life (don't usually do bleach) and my delerium at cleaning the dining room was quite something. I reckon in about 3 days I'll be able to pop Marnie's clothes into the washing machine!! JOy!

choudru · 22/10/2007 13:56

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare Loopy! Kids eh? Whatever posessed us to have more?!

JARM - tut tut on carrying the paint. Did you find any wispas?

My DS is snoozing away right now and so should I be but I have a dilemma to sort out.

I still haven't hired a TENS machine. If I hire it by 3pm, I can have it by tomorrow for £35.

BUT, I can't decide whether to bother spending £35 (+£5 to return the thing) just in case I go into labour in the next 24 hours and it arrives afterwards.

Am I being ridiculous?

Easywriter · 22/10/2007 13:56

Oh Loopy sounds like a hard work kind of a day!

(Obviously) I hope Iris is in labour too (or at a spa and eating cream cakes!)

JARM · 22/10/2007 13:58

nope - no wispas either! Will have to get DH to go to the little shop 10mins away - i know they have them!

Easywriter · 22/10/2007 13:58

Choudru - you're not being ridiculous at all but if you don't order it today you'll have the same decision to ponder tomorrow.

Easywriter · 22/10/2007 14:00

...if you don't go into labour today that is.

ChocolateHobnob · 22/10/2007 14:39

Hi all

Iris and RG are really quiet! It would be v early for RG, wouldn't it? But not like her to be quiet.

Iris - good luck!!

Choudru, I haven't hired a TENS machine either... and I am pondering similar dilemma. Not sure I want to use one though. How many of you have used one and think it's a good idea?

Silk, enjoy pottery painting! sounds fun.

JARM, I'm about to have a Wispa...!

I deserve one though. 1st day of leave and have made huge amount of bolognaise sauce and huge amount of chilli. Defrosting freezer as I write. And have sorted hospital bag properly. My halo glows. I'm tired though and have a work call to negotiate in a bit (yes, first day of leave, but still a work call.. hangover from last week...)...

Off to get Wispa from fridge! Good luck finding one Jarm!

iris66 · 22/10/2007 15:23

hiya peeps - thanks for thinking of me but I'm not in labour (yet...I don't think ) but loads of v painful BHs almost constantly since about 10 this morning & then just had to make a load of lasagne. Getting backache too but no other symptoms (so feel free to send lots of laboury vibes my way ). Will let you know if anything develops - off to continue being twitchy and unable to sit down - hence short post. Back later

LK2boyzma · 22/10/2007 15:39

Afternoon all,

I really thought that once I stopped working, I would be all over theplace and certainly MN-ing everyday! but I am so tired and sore half the time all I want is to sleep!(shock)Thankful for the half term too as I am having sleep in everyday,

Choc: I tried the TENS machine with my DS but I felt that the electric currents from the tiny thing made my pains worse, so I ain't looking in that direction this time.Having said that, I also believe that my first time was a disaster because I was not sure of what I was doing. Could turn out to be different for others. I hope someone with a more positive experience will come along soon!

About the CLARY SAGE, the company replied to my e-mail, I quote " Since it works and stimulates female reproductive organs, it is best avoided in pregnancy, but CAN be used in labour as the child is then on the point of being born" Link: www.EssentialOils.co.za

I have not managed to keep up with everyone, so here is hoping U r all well.

I tried to tidy my lady garden last night and it was a disaster, went half way and gave up, I could not see a thing. DH has kindly agreed to finish up tonight (blush)

Good afternoon to all

fiona76 · 22/10/2007 16:17

Hi everyone. Lots of busy people filling the freezer and nesting away!! Lots of BH and twinges as well- the LOs aren't far away now.

Did you know that NEXT THURSDAY is the 1ST of NOVEMBER can you believe it!!! I'm 37 weeks this thursday so getting excited.

I have cooked a load of pumpkin soup made from pumpkin from the garden so feeling very domgod. Also made a load of bolognse and its now in containers in the freezer.

I'm completely pooped now and resting in front of the telly. Still need to sort out the lady garden !!!!!

We were meant to go to the hospital for a tour of the labour ward on Saturday but never made it. Could either go tonight or Sat so need to decided if I can be bothered.
I'd like to see what is install for me.

Be good everyone and put your feet up xx

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 17:27

Afternoon (or is that evening?!) everyone!!

Sorry i haven't been on all day - this is literally the first chance i've had to actually sit down and get near the computer! DS has been hogging it all day and i have been very domgod by sweeping and mopping all the downstairs floors and even hoovering the stairs (the only place we have carpet). I've also done some washing, tidied the kitchen, cleaned the microwave and cooker top, etc etc. Then i had to go to Asda to get something for dinner armed with a calculator coz we are so skint til DP's cheque clears tomorrow lol. Apologies if i got you all worried.

Blimey, i've got loads to catch up on! I'll try my best, so here goes......

LK - glad you have finished work too! Yay! Join the realms of us mat leavers!

Choc - your lamb sounds lovely!! mmmmmm...... Deffo sounds like you deserve some Wispa Therapy! Your halo is simply dazzling!

Sarah - re the clary sage, it sounds like quite a party trick to have some and then get drinking!

Jarm - your posts always make me feel tired and inadequate lol. You always seem to be buzzing around doing stuff. You soooo put me to shame.

Loopy - glad your DH seems to be finally seeing the light about having DCs near in age. Oh and i agree re the Mr Muscle shinanigans. Glad your manipulative hormones convinced DH to do it for you. Our oven is really starting to need a clean too. I would get DP to clean it but there's not really going to be much opportunity for him to do it as he's working so much lately, bless him. Will just have to try hot water and baking soda (possible)...... or i might just leave it instead (probable).

Pixie - hope you're feeling a bit better about your induction. Do try not to worry about leaving DD tho. As Iris has said, millions of people do it and the DCs haven't been scarred for life by it!

Cape - PMSL at your horses tail fanjo hair!!!

Jet - yeah i will try and wait for as long as poss re the nursing bras or maybe just try and measure myself and buy online. It all depends if i can be arsed to go out nearer D-Day. Although saying that, D-Day could theoretically be anytime now couldn't it! Scarey Exciting stuff! Great news about your LO turning! What a relief for you!

LOM - i know what you mean about it hitting home etc. It's only since i've been on mat leave that i've started to think "oh sh1t!" about it all. I dont think i'll not like my Lo, i think for me i'll be more worried that she'll be a screamer because DS did nothing but scream for the first 6 months. Hopefully this wont be the case this time around.

Choudru - my bump changes shape too but i dont feel that my body is anywhere near ready to give birth yet! Oh and i think i had BH yesterday! I was standing at the sink when i got 3 pains in my lower abdomen that were about 2 or 3 minutes apart. The pains were sort of sharp/periody type pains but all across the bottom. Does that sound like a BH episode? Sorry to hear about your friend. How very TENS machine - if you really want to hire one, then just hire it and stop faffing around umming and ahhing about it lol. You know what will happen if you dont get your finger out dont you? You'll be sitting here in two weeks time just WISHING you'd hired it when you were thinking about it!

Silk - re Yoga. I have still only been once when i was 16 weeks pg (cant believe how long ago that was!) and i felt very conspicuous because i was the smallest pg lady there. What i didn't like also tho was the fact that we had to pair up with someone and hold each other in positions that might be nice for labour that we would get our DPs to use on us. I didn't feel comfortable with that all, considering all the ladies were complete strangers! Is it just me being self conscious or would you feel a bit funny doing that too? I'm debating whether to bother going back, bearing in mind i've only got 5 weeks left to go!

Easy - sorry to hear you've been all week. I really hope Marnie turns in time, it'll be one less thing to worry about for you! Re your birthday pressie. I think the only thing wrong with it really is the timing. Bearing in mind your DH doesn't make much effort anyway (from what you've said in your post), i would consider that present quite appropriate, albeit in very very bad timing! Poor bloke obviously doesn't have a clue about presents lol. hope you manage to sort it out and get something you will at least enjoy!

Iris - you're making a batch of lasagne too? What is it with everyone doing batch bake-offs?!! I've not made a single thing (yet) and haven't even packed a hospital bag! Spose i just dont feel ready to pack a bag yet and our freezer isn't big enough to house the contents of a bake-off so i'll just have to put up with frozen rubbish instead i reckon.

DP has now decided to get a bit nervous about the HB situation. He keeps asking what will happen if there are no midwives available when i go into labour! I've assured him that i have to ring the midwife unit and not the GP surgery so there will be someone available but he thinks that there will be 1,000 women all going into labour at the same time as me, which will mean we dont get a MW! I just assured him that we are better off at home with a one-on-one MW rather than in a hospital where they sod off and leave you alone for ages etc etc. I even offered that we hire a Doula but he said that it all sounded like a bit of a con!! Think i'll show him the Doula UK website. I think also it'd be a good idea to come with me to the next MW appointment because we'll be going through my birth plan etc and he'll be able to put forward any questions and concerns he has to the MW.

I'm sure LO is on one side too. She seems to be constantly on my right hand side. I hope that doesn't cause a problem - does anyone know?

Right i think another cup of tea is in order and two more Tea Cakes. yummy, haven't had those in years! Oh and i STILL haven't eaten my two Wispas!!! What is wrong with me?!!

OP posts:
littleoldme · 22/10/2007 17:29

Well I've just finished building the chest of drawers for the nursery and am about to have a long soak as everything hurts.

Easy - Read your thread and have posted. I think blokes are sometimes like over enthusiastic puppies. They jump at you and lick your face to show they love you. They completely fail to notice that you are wearing your best pale coloured outfit and that they have covered it in in muddy paw prints. iykwim,

You take it easy Iris.

Choudru - You are not being ridiculous at all. Shame our dates aren't closer then we could share one.

Fiona - how very Nigella of you. Sounds scrum.

Off to bathe.

aikigypsy · 22/10/2007 17:42

Good afternoon everyone. Had loads of comments but lost the thread of my thoughts. BTW, I love pineapple, but probably wouldn't go for the woody core part.

My mother insists I was born a full month late, after an induction, but I am beginning to doubt the truth of this as I approach the EDD. I mean, given that I arrived at 8lbs even with no signs of post-maturity, meconium, or any of that, isn't it likelier that she just skipped a period for some strange reason? I am halfway hoping for a haloween birthday for LO, but we'll see.

Meanwhile, DP is making some very slow progress towards getting a spot of work here and there, and I have been doing massive amounts of laundry. I'm sure, sure I won't need 3/4 of the hand-me-downs I've gotten so far, but DP thinks we should keep them on hand just in case. My big project for today is going to be ordering cloth diapers online. You can't get them in shops here, at all, which drives me crazy. I tried to order some last night, but got lost amid all the internet stores, none of which had everything I wanted. Grr.

Easy -- the oblique lie sounds awfully close to the right direction. I imagine she'll turn in time to go out the natural way. Have you looked at spinningbabies.com? Also, that gift was ridiculous. Sell the tickets.

Re: Nursing bras. I just ordered two based on my best guess. It'll be better than nothing until things get to where they're supposed to be in terms of size.

JARM · 22/10/2007 18:41

YAY the chatty girls are back!

RGP - Honestly mate, I dont do THAT much.... i have a lovely DH who does a lot too. I have lots of things on my to do list, so the sooner it gets ticked off the better!!!

Am still planning a painting session tonight though.... after Ive had my rennie's to get rid of this heartburn - had it all day!

NO WISPA TODAY! Really couldnt ask DH to go out in the crappy weather just to satisfy my choccy craving, so will have to wait til tomorrow! (Ill buy a weeks worth to make up for it!)

Iris - hope you are taking it easy - not too far now!!!

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 19:43

LOM - Our nursery is STILL nowhere near finished!! At least the wardrobe has started to be built now tho. Hopefully it'll mean i'll be able to contribute a bit with some primer and paint etc. Hope you enjoyed your bath!

Aiki - another cloth nappy user eh?! Hmmm maybe i will look into it once i've settled into having a baby again.

Jarm - I think i have a to do list somewhere too, but unfortunately it's shoved up in my brain and half the time i forget it's there. Perhaps if i write it down on paper i might actually be as active as you, as i'll realise that i've got too much to do in too little time!

Just waiting to get the kids into bed - they are verylate tonight, although that said, DD1 is pretty much asleep on the sofa next to me, and DH is now doing DD2's milk (dd2 should have been in bed over half an hour ago!)

Once they are in bed, we can start painting!!!!

My to-do list isnt on paper - its all in my head, but im ticking it off nicely!
