another cloth nappy user here - SO easy, and CHEAP! Ok so the initial outlay is a pain, but in the long run, they save you so much money!

will admit to disposables for the first week or 2 though!

Aiki - Good news on DP and work front. It's quite important when you're new somewhere to help with establishing some independence (which is important for the soul if you know what I mean).
I think he may also have a point with the clothes, hang onto them until baby's here. I seem to recall doing things like rejecting anything that had poppers or buttons on the back (as baby has to lie on them all day) which would never have occured to me before I actually had a baby but I was quite pleased that I had enough clothes to pick and choose and indulge my foibles!

RG - What is the deal with those two Wispa's (are they related to cat's and have 9 lives?). Oh! What a girl would do for Wispa's in this neck of the woods!

Anna - You know you said the clary sage was on a flannel, well what was actually done with the flannel? Where was it applied?

Right! Off to look at spinningbabies.com

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 20:29

Loopy - i think once DP meets with the MW again and she puts his mind at rest, he will be ok with it. It's not the HB bit he is worried about, it's purely the fact that he thinks our area will run of midwives when i go into labour. Thanx for the offer of your DH emailing him. I'm sure it wont come to that, but i'll deffo bear it in mind if he's still flapping about it. I think i will look more indepth at the nappies once LO is here and i can see how expensive disposables are. The thing that puts me off is buying a few in one size and then LO outgrowing them in a couple of weeks or summat. That would be a real pain!

Jarm - FGS stick your feet up!!!! I'm whacked out just reading your posts!!!

Easy - i have no idea why i haven't eaten those Wispas yet. The only thing i can think of is that i dont want to share them and as DS hasn't had work for the last few weeks, he's normally around during the day now and i want to eat them ceremoniously with a cup of tea at my leisure. They are also very rare in my neck of the woods too so i'm thinking if i eat them, that'll be that. no more Wispas lol. The only two i've managed to eat were from Manchester and my work mate got me these latest two from Essex where she lives.

I was also thinking that re the flannel. if she had a WB wouldn't it all be washed away?

Evening!

Well, I am exhausted just reading what you lot have been up to recently. I am obviously not doing well at this nesting malarkey. I gave up cooking at the beginning of last week, and frankly haven't felt any desire to clean anything, although I did see my cleaner today if that counts...

I did do Sunday lunch for some friends though who brought their 14 week old daughter round so I got to do big cuddling and sniffing, which was worth making lunch for!

I am feeling a bit panicked about being due next week though. I veer wildly from thinking - can't wait for the baby to arrive, to thinking - quite enjoying my last few baby free days, can indeed wait!

The scariest thing is that my friend from ante-natal classes who was due on 31 Oct had her baby on Thursday morning. This is particularly unnerving as I saw her at 4pm on Wednesday and there was nothing happening at all, and then 16 hours later she was a mum - blimey!

I have had my presentation scan now, and the baby is head down but not making any attempt to engage... The midwife has been to drop off all the kit and DH is threatening to blow up the birth pool... Is this all starting to seem a bit real to anyone else??

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 20:35

blimey FCH - NEXT WEEK?!!!!! That's really close isn't it, although spare a thought for those who are being induced THIS WEEK!

I think we all feel a bit of "OMG" now and then. I reckon it's perfectly normal.

OP posts:
FCH · 22/10/2007 20:39

RG - I am thinking of all those being induced this week - and those who have jumped the queue and had their babies already, but I can't help having a slight panic over the whole issue of being someone's mother!!! Argh!!!

FCH · 22/10/2007 20:39

FCH · 22/10/2007 20:40

oops...

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 20:40

lol it IS daunting isn't it! I've been a mother for 17 years already and the thought of being another person's mother too is just as daunting.

OP posts:
iris66 · 22/10/2007 20:43

Jeeeeez what a lot of posts!!
BH's petered out once DS woke hideously grumpy (full of cold, poor thing)and needed his mummy to sit down and cuddle him awake.

Easywriter - YANBU at all. But then men can be just sooooo thoughtful yet incredibly dense sometimes. Flog em on E-bay & get yourself some spa treatments that you can have one at a time when you feel like it

Loopy - yes, I would have been so very chuffed (still 3 nights to go though!)

RGPargy - And for your next wierd dream...... you're surrounded by cloth nappy users all smiling at you wielding buckets that have no vile smell (because they put bicarb and tea tree oil in them) and you find yourself drawn to nappy websites and trial packs and £15 cashback from your local council.....you are feeling very sleepy and need to make this dream a reality......

Have some brilliant news to share...I spoke to the diabetic nurse (she wanted updates on my sugar levels) and she seemed to think that it would be pointless putting me on an insulin/sugar drip in labour as my doses are so low (I may even get to labour in water as a result! ) It gave me such a morale boost.

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 20:49

Iris - wow, fantastic news about your insulin!!! Yay!!!!

At this rate i will end up dreaming of bloomin' reuseable nappies, but they'll be chasing me up the road and i'll be looking for the safe haven that is a house made of disposables!

OP posts:
iris66 · 22/10/2007 20:52

FCH - it is daunting isn't it. But a fantastic adventure too. I can remember bringing DD home, plonking her on the floor in her carrycot, and almost wondering when someone was going to come and tell me what to do with her!

I don't think the "OMG I'm going to have a baby soon" thing is any different if you're on your first or 10th pg. You make the most of the last bits of freedom though!!

iris66 · 22/10/2007 20:53

RGPargy - the disposables house will leak (trust me!!!!)

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 20:59

lol Iris!!!

Just looked at DP/our ebay account, he spent £82 on the tickets .

Feel a bit guilty but they're still the proverbial pair of tits to my goldfish!

Will have to bring it up again (if only to allow him to be rid of the slightly sheepish look he's had since arriving home today).

Iris! Wahey! What good news, there's nothing like the support of a good MW eh?

sparklygothkat · 22/10/2007 21:09

am a first time cloth nappy user, atm because Callum is still so tiny we are using prefolds with a newborn wrap. I thought it would be too much work, but honestly its easy. Am just waiting for my shaped nappies to arrive so I can try them out when Callum gets bigger.

Easy - awww bless him, but he's still bloody hopeless for thinking that you might just not be up for a night like that so soon after baby!

Loopy - hmmmm so i'd only need 2 sizes? That sounds more dooable

OP posts:
ChocolateHobnob · 22/10/2007 21:28

Fab news Iris! Is it making you feel better about the induction? It's so soon! and Pixie too! scary stuff!

RG, you're being much more virtuous than me on the Wispa front.. I barely dare confess how many I've had. I blame lo being addicted...!

Oh dear real nappies - my DH occasionally moots the idea but I just can't face it. It all seems like an extra thing to learn on top of everything else... I probably shouldn't have confessed that.

Well, tomorrow I have a luxury pedicure leftover from a bday present, and am going out for lunch. Need some pampering as today I did loads in the house...

OK, dilemma. A colleague lent me her family crib back in July - it was a real act of friendship because she hasn't lent it out before and it's been around for ages. Anyway I got all paranoid mummy about it because it's very old and doesn't meet current safety legislation. So we bought a Moses basket instead. Now. Do I tell her this?? or do I pretend to use the crib? I would do the latter except she will come and visit, and OK so the Moses basket will be upstairs out of the way, but what do I do if she wants to see the crib for some reason (it's in our loft...)? Any thoughts?

Shattered so off to bed. Take care all!

RGPargy · 22/10/2007 21:36

Choc - ooo that's a toughie! If it was a real act of friendship, i would just be honest with her. Say you've decided to use the moses basket because of the current safety legislation and tell her that you know you're being a paranoid first time mum etc () but you just have to comply with the safety stuff and then just give it back to her, thanking her for her kindness anyway.

Have a good sleep!

AnnainNZ · 22/10/2007 21:43

Easy and RG - the clary sage on the flannel was for sniffing, while she was in the pool.

JARM · 22/10/2007 21:50

Evening all!!

Well have done my stint of painting, and then DH ordered me to bed, so here I am!

Girls room is looking rather PINK now, but will be fab once its finished with the purple blind put back up and the pink and purple butterfly border!

Off swimming with the kids first thing tomorrow - because of half term, the toddler fun session is 8.30am so will need to be up and sorted and out the door!

After that am off to my dads to check up on my cousins who are staying there at the moment - dad is away til tomorrow afternoon and I dont want him coming home to a shit-tip - the boys are 15 and 17 yet act 4yrs old unfortunately, so need a kick up the arse to do anything.

Roll on thursday when i can get baby's room just how i want it - the girls will be back in their room and i can smooch over all the tiny clothes!

jetgirl · 22/10/2007 22:04

Chocolate - how old is the crib? Why doesn't it meet legislation? I only ask as we're using the one I slept in 29 years ago; my DD used it, and lots of others in between. New mattress obv, but otherwise the crib and stand are the same. Use the Moses basket as you know it's safe, I'm sure she won't mind. Paranoid mummies are allowed to do that

Iris - great news re your insulin, you must be feeling pleased.

choudru - v to hear about your friend

Loopy - so that yours were in bed by 8. Tonight DD didn't settle until 9:30. DH and I were eating dinnre and heard a really odd noise coming from upstairs. i went to investigate to find DD sitting on the floor pulling baby wipes out of a packet and she told me she was cleaning her face! There must have been about 30 wipes! And she was ready for bed by 7:30, just didn't want to sleep...at all.

The most energetic thing I have done today is tidy my wardrobe. It does look nice though. I also dug out all my old nursing bras and washed them, so that was a vaguely useful way to spend my time. Otherwise I have been outrageously lazy and enjoyed reading the Sunday paper. off to eat the Ben and Jerry's ice-cream DH treated me to yesterday. Yummy
