Pixiefish · 26/09/2007 21:07

Isn't third stage delivering the placenta- could well be wrong

iris66 · 26/09/2007 21:08

Hi JARM - sorry you've been feeling teary. Im like that a lot. (like tonight when I couldn't get my tray on my lap becasue LO's backside was sticking out & forcing me to lean backwards ) fret not. You've more packed than me for the baby!!
I have packed a bit for me though:
pack of maternity towels & fugly big knickers
nightie, PJs, dressing gown, socks & flipflops
breast pads
emergency contact lenses
old blusher,comb,lip salve & mirror
disposable camera
tissues, bottle of water & biccies
book (to read), puzzle book & pen
ipod speakers & big note saying "remember ipod!"
change (for when DH says he's forgotten to bring some for the car park!)
what have I forgotten?

silkcushion · 26/09/2007 21:09

SGK - congratulations and hello to little Callum (lovely name).

Too tired to write more - climbing into a bath for a read and relax followed by bed.

JARM · 26/09/2007 21:12

oooh good point about breast pads - must go buy some!!

Have my special NEXT pj's in the drawer, need new fugly knickers too, oh i did manage night time sanitary towels - at least i remembered something! (Cant wear maternity towels - far too big and uncomforatable - much prefer Always Night with Wings!)

Cant be arsed with dressing gown in hopsital - far too hot, and my new PJ's have a little cardi thing anyway.

Need to think about what to give bith in, although if anything like my last birth, i will be nekkid!

Must also locate big arse t-shirts for first few hours after birth.... although want to be home within 6hrs if possible!

iris66 · 26/09/2007 21:13

silkcushion - that's where I'm supposed to be

note to self..."stop bloody gassing so much, you know it makes your backside ache!!!" (no comments please ladies!! - trouble is it does too - our computer seat is rock hard ) on that note I'm going for a relaxing soak too. night all

iris66 · 26/09/2007 21:15

JARM - that's it!!! Knew there was something!my old sarong to deliver in!!!!! (though am planning a HB - must write a note not to forget it if i end up going in!!! ) Phew that was close I'm really going now, honest.

empen · 26/09/2007 21:15

Have you all started packing your hospital bags!!!

iris66 · 26/09/2007 21:18

toothbrush, toothpaste & shower stuff

I'm gone

JARM · 26/09/2007 21:20

well ive got 8+ weeks left, and tbh, im not sure im gonna make it to full term this time so i want to be prepared! Plus with the girls, i had bags packed by 28 weeks so i am slacking somewhat!!!

empen · 26/09/2007 21:23

Was just panicing cause I have not given any thought to it yet - in fact I don't even know where the hospital is!!!!

sparklygothkat · 26/09/2007 21:27

Just been up to the hospital again, and tried to put Callum to the breast, he had a little suck but fell asleep Tubefed him all by myself, funny how these things come flooding back to you. I just want to bring him home.. atm he is in 90ml a day, he has to get to 150ml a day, and on 4 hourly feeds before they will let him home, but they think it will be about 2 weeks before he is allowed home

berrybliss · 26/09/2007 21:31

Good evening ladies! ooh hospital bags i've got all the stuff for the baby but none for me really.

I'm too scared to pack a bag as i think i'll jinx it or something and it'll bring the labour on i've still got 7+ weeks!!

berrybliss · 26/09/2007 21:36

Congrats he sounds lovely. Does he have to be a certain weight b4 he's allowed home?
I bet you can't wait to have him with you!

sparklygothkat · 26/09/2007 21:41

not sure on the weight thing as Dd1 was 5lb 3oz when she came home, and DD2 was just 4lb 1oz when she came home, it just depends on whether they are feeding well, i guess

Thats good to hear! I hope he'll be home soon!

littleoldme · 26/09/2007 21:50

Sparkly - you are making me feel all and fuzzy

Arghhh panic on the bag front . I've not even though about it yet. But then I have got another nine weeks to go.

Jet - biccies sound yummy.I know what I'll be doing when I finish work.

What's the best wera for hosp. I know I need a button tops. I'm thinking blokes pjs as they come in darker colours - mmm any suggestions peeps.

Gotta go . Dh is home with malteesers

sarahloumadam · 26/09/2007 22:11

Thanks for advice Loopy and Iris re hair - think will go for a long bob that can still be tied back (you mean I won't have time to dry and straighten my hair one the LO is here??!! ) Would love to go v.short like you RG but have a v.large head which needs to balanced out with longer hair!

JARM - I have been v.hormonal too. Think we are allowed start behaving completely illogically from this point on. Its the law.

I have packed my hospital bag but I have had to attach a long list to the outside of all the things that will need to go in nearer the time. Glad to see that someone had a bit of makeup on their list, I was worried about appearing vain but if I am in for a few days and friends come to see me I'd like to put a bit of slap so as not to scare them away!

SGK you sound wonderfully calm and madonna-like. Lovely to hear your updates.

Right, must go and make DH cup of tea as promised 20 mins ago. Hope everyone has a good nights sleep.

RGPargy · 26/09/2007 22:11

Loopy - thanx for the info. IIRC, all i remember with DS is the midwife gently pressing on my tummy and telling me to give a little push. I have no idea of how long it was before that happened or even if the jab was around back then (1990). Think i would prefer the natural way.

Littleoldme - enjoy the maltesers!!

sparklygothkat · 26/09/2007 22:34

have added a pic to my profile, I look tired, so excuse me looking terrible lol

AnnainNZ · 27/09/2007 02:32

Well I think you're allowed to look a LITTLE tired y'know...what with having given birth and all that

Callum is lovely, looks very wide awake and chirpy.

aikigypsy · 27/09/2007 03:19

I have not gotten the baby things sorted out at all. I think they give you a lot of what you need at the hospital here, so I'm not too worried about that -- will pack some baby outfits and bibs and maybe cloth diapers when I get those arranged. I've already packed some post-partum clothes for myself and I'm thinking about throwing in the ipod and speakers, but not at all sure I'll want it. I also plan to pack food, but that will probably be a last-minute thing.

Sparkly -- Callum looks quite well in the picture, amazingly big compared to what I thought an early baby would look like. You look fine, too, not even particularly tired considering you just gave birth!

fiona76 · 27/09/2007 04:39

You look amazing sparkly!!! Your baby is divine he looks so healthy
I am up in the middle of the night- can't sleep anymore. My heartburn is quite bad. Its quite cold tonight so I think I'll try a hot chocolate- hopefully it will make me sleepy.
Interesting info about the third stage of labour- you guys have so made me want to try a home birth. Is it too late to change my mind? DH will probably freak if I suggest it. Is it messy at your house? Do you get a midwife from the hospital or do you need to get a private one? I'm too chicken to do it this time but if all goes well I definately want to do a home birth for my next.

fiona76 · 27/09/2007 04:41

By the way. I got my pram/ travel system thing yesterday and was pushing it around the dining room and taking it up and down and I was so overcome with emotion I nearly cried. I felt like a mummy

ChocolateHobnob · 27/09/2007 07:14

Sparkly, you DO look fab, and he is gorgeous. Hope he comes home with you soon.

Fiona, I think I'll be like that with the travel system! Mine's coming on Tuesday.

I still don't know what to do re the third stage. I guess it depends how the rest of the labour goes. I kind if like the middle option (ie say physiological but give it a deadline).

Hair: mine is bobbed and chin length and is going to be a disaster after birth! I have thought of that and then scotched the thought as I expect I won't care then!
