Hi all

I'm not mentioning the rugby...

Iris, your cooking day sounds fab. I love cooking. I'm going to make a lasagne shortly. I've yet to start the big freeze for when lo comes - need to defrost the freezer first, really - but will soon.

We've bought black out blinds today, and a cheapo nightie for labour from Primark (which was hell as ever - but v cheap) and a steriliser. Oh and some little wrapover babygros from H and M - couldn't find the wrap-style ones in most places, know they are common in France and like idea of avoiding pulling clothes over newborn's head all the time.

I'm now shattered! Lo was 3/5 engaged and has moved down further the last few days, so it is permanently banging my pelvic floor. Painful when I walk sometimes! And the bump has changed shape.

Time for a Wispa... hope you're all doing okay!

izyboy · 07/10/2007 16:49

Hi
Time to introduce myself, before the thread turns into a post natal one. Been reading up on you ladies since day one - think I must enjoy being a lurker! (Either that or it is laziness -prob a bita both)

I am a mum of one living in S. Wales (your neck of woods KaylaBmummy - I think. I am due an el.cs 8th Nov. They think it is a girl.

Just been talking about my coal crunching fantasies on another thread. I would really like to dip my finger in the coal scuttle and give it a good lick! I think it is due to being a bit anemic (don't usually have these bizarre cravings).

Re the in-law situation my advice would be to try to avoid a prolonged visit if you are not close or they are not particularly helpful.

I found my PIL 4 day visit the day after I came home from hospital very invasive.

Sport on TV all day, no space to practice breast feeding unless confined to bedroom, fake smiling eventhough stitches are murder, quiet sobbing in isolation so you are not overheard, discussing piles in front of FIL during HV visit, MIL 'too polite' to help with nappy changing argggh... see still ranting 3.5 years later!

You have to carefully police your emotions (at your most hormonal) in case you have an emotional outburst that you might later regret. My PIL are not particularly monstrous its just we have a 'nice' 'polite' not very close relationship. It privately soured my feelings towards them unfortunately.

Things WILL be different this time. Anyway just my experience...

Would be really grateful if someone would add me to the already burgeoning list.

Is it just me....

or does anybody else have a little five minutes where they get all giddy and think I GET TO MEET MY BABY SOON......

I do! and i love it, i'm so excited about meeting LO. I pretend to people that i'm all relaxed but really i think about baby stuff 247 and every now and then get little bursts of excitement. Its like Christmas my birthday and everything else lovely and exciting rolled into one!

berrybliss · 07/10/2007 17:34

O' and ment to say hi izyboy! Not long for you to wait now at all!

izyboy · 07/10/2007 17:42

Hi Berrybliss

Afraid I am just cacking my pants about the sleepless nights - I remember them from last time! I really like it when they get to 4-5 months, not really a newborn baby person myself.

tonysmum · 07/10/2007 19:06

hi all, just edited and posted the list again because I was there twice.
I had really painful Bh contractions on friday night, so bad I thought it was for real! but no, I am still here , I think it was triggered by all the cleaning I had to do for the house sale viewings, not ideal at nearly 36 weeks...

hello, not been here much this weekend, had Dd2's birthday party yesterday, so had a hentic (sp?) day with people here on top of Callum's feeds. He is breastfeeding about every 2-3 hours during the day and wakes twice in the night. Had to go and buy some babygros today as we only had a few that actually fit him, he is so small He is a good baby, who sleep through anything, including lots of kids screaming and running around the house (yesterday's party lol) and hoovering
Anyway hope everyone is ok, am waiting for the next one to pop so I don't feel so left out

littleoldme · 07/10/2007 20:22

izy - Congrats of giving up the lurking. Nice to have along.

Loopy - I get like that too and I'm not normally grumpy. Lately I've got really annoyed with DH closing the front door too loudly and leaving his laptop in the hall after work. I bet nesting was easier for our ancestors; all the had to do was worry about where to put the mammoth skins and building the odd fire.

Choc - well done for the Primarni trip. I keep meaning to bave it but it just seems like such a scary place.

Right off for a bath before I start on the ironing,

RGPargy · 07/10/2007 20:29

Iris - Glad your insulin is kinda going ok! I'm sure the nosebleed probably related to being whacked in the nose!! Enjoy your time with your mum.

LOM - The laminate stuff is so slippery isn't it! Even in my rubber-soled flip flops my legs can go wide bambi-style if i stand in the same place for too long!! How was Whitby?

Choc - I'm envious of you knocking up a lasagne and in fact anyone else that can knock up stuff from scratch! At the mo i really dont have time to do that sort of stuff. By the time i get home from work it's almost 7pm and the last thing i want to do is faff around in the kitchen. Frozen meals a-plenty for us i'm afraid, unless it's the weekend and i have the energy to knock up a macaroni (well, pasta spirals) cheese from scratch. It's my speciality dish and one which everyone in Chateau Pargy absolutely LOVES!

Izyboy - Hello and welcome to the thread! Your PIL sound like a nightmare! make sure you do things differently this time to avoid the stress!

Berry - I'm exactly the same re meeting baby! Sometimes both DP and I will sit there and nearly burst with excitement about meeting her in just over 7 weeks (give or take a week or two!). Great isn't it!!

Tonysmum - i dont envy you doing all cleaning for viewers. Try and stick your feet up now and rest. Although BH are practice contractions, i'm sure you also get them when you do too much.

Loopy - dont worry about it, you rant away luv! I know what you mean about DPs and DHs not doing things quite right tho. They always mean well tho, and i spose that's the main thing, eh?

Sparkly - hello! Nice to see you again! hope DD2's birthday went ok. Callum seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds - absolutely wonderful isn't it! Yay!!

I've just been nerdy and had a look at our list and from the information from it, we can see how many girls, boys, secrets, surprises and dont knows there are:

Surprise - 22
Secret - 3
Boys - 14
Girls - 11
Not Specified - 3

That means there's 50 of us on the list! Huuuuuuge!!!

Right, am off to have some vino () and help DP with his accounts.

ChocolateHobnob · 07/10/2007 21:28

50 of us! Wow. And lots of surprises...

Loopsy, you're allowed to complain. We all are, at this stage!

RG, I know what you mean during the week (still working too - get in before you (around 6) but am 36 weeks and heavy now) but on Sundays I just about manage. I made oodles of lasagne - enough for us for tomorrow night, reheated, a portion for the freezer, plus an extra 4 portions of ragu to put into the freezer to probably eat as spag bol eventually.

Littleoldme - don't go to Primark on a Sunday! It was hell.

Sparkly, glad Callum's doing so well!

Oh dear, another day at work tomorrow. I could do with an endless weekend. Never mind, the end is in sight.

Hope everyone is settling down for a lovely night's sleep (though the reality is endless loo trips...)...

jetgirl · 07/10/2007 21:34

Iris - hope you've enjoyed all your cooking. I've started doing a little at a time for the freezer whenever I cook dinner. I hope you've enjoyed spending time with your mum too.

RG - I have managed to eat a Kinder Bueno and a small bar of dairy milk to compensate for the healthy smoothies. I'm not fussed about being on the loo all the time, i need to pee constantly all of a sudden as LO seems to have descended a bit, so I may as well may the most of my trips

Berry - we are just as excited about meeting our baby as we were with our first. DH went up to the loft today - unasked - and brought down the carrycot for the pram which has had the seat unit on it for ages now. We have also finally decided upon the double buggy we're going to have, and it'll be free as both sets of parents have offered to pay for it!

Loopy - I know exactly what you mean. DH gave up two hours of the afternoon to rehang the door on DD's bedroom as it had come off the hinges. He broke 2 drill bits, made a hell of a mess, and didn't get the door back up anyway. Thing is, I'm not bothered that there is no door on the bedroom, we never close it anyway, I would rather he'd spent the time with DD and me. I know if he had though, I would have whinged at him for leaving the door in the corridor for another day! Mustn't grumble though as he went to the shop to buy me chocolate earlier this evening, so he is a saint really.

Welcome Izyboy, nice to have you with us at last!

littleoldme · 07/10/2007 21:43

Rg - We had a great day ta. A slow waddle on the moors followed fish and chips by the sea. The weather was pants but Whitby was still full of stout Yorkshire folk eating icecream on general principle.

Choc - I work part time but even when I go to town at 10 am on a week day it still looks like the first day of the January sales. OMG can you imagine what it would actually be like on the first day on the Jan sales...

PIXIE - I've got a spare tubi grip which might help with the SPD. if you e-mail me at little50me at yahoo dot co dot uk I'll bung it the post for you. If you don't fancy it no worries.

AnnainNZ · 07/10/2007 22:01

Fiona76 - my dh is a Pom like me, we met over here after we'd both been here about 2 years. You should hear the news over here - I just listened to National Radio news from 8-9am and 50 minutes of it was about the rugby! Interviews with politicians, how to cope with "your grief", a clinical psychologist on to explain how people will be affected, even an ecnomist about whether it will affect the economy!

At least S Africa are still in, bet your dh is happy.

KaylaBmummy · 08/10/2007 03:30

Hi Ladies . As you can tell by the time Im having a sleepless night. Have had really swollen feet and ankles for last few days with aching pain at night and to top it all have this awful pain like a trapped nerve in back of shoulder and down my left arm, not sure whats going on . Will call and see my doctor tomorrow morning as im feeling quite sorry for myself .

Hi Izyboy - Welcome to the thread, nice to here from someone from my neck of the woods. My EDD date was 8th November but due to medical reasons looks like E CS at end of October, hope everything has been going well for you. You mentioned your coal cravings!!! I currently crave with a vengenous polo mints, end up having to put loads in my mouth and crunch them all up just for that lovely mint taste, god knows why What part of S Wales are you? Im near Tenby!

Iris66 - Glad to hear our delivery dates may be together . Let me know how you get on at your consultant appt. Im still waiting for my actual date as this postal strikehas held everything up for me at moment. Hope your feeling ok .

Well better try and go back to bed and try to sleep, another funny thing I have noticed is my head and arms just wont stop itching OMG what am I like roll on end of october .

Easywriter · 08/10/2007 04:31

Bonjour mesdames!

Haven't been on for ages as I've been acknowledging and dealing with the depression that the state of our house is inducing in me. Hopefully by this friday the replaster will be finished. I've no idea when the redecorating will be complete. (Have asked to see the decorators midwifery certificates ).

Hi to everyone that's new and it's great to hear that Callum goes from strength to strength Sparkly!

Izy - My relationship with my inlaws has been horribly tainted by their 'stay' after I had my dd's. I definately haven't forgiven them and this time I'm going to do whatever it takes t ensure we don't have a repeat performance.

Lowlights included: not lifting so much as a finger even to make themselves a cup of tea (It was MIL and BIL (he's over 30) for the 2 weeks they stayed! BIL even said after DP had produced a dinner for us all that he 'didn't like pasta so DP should go out and get him something from Tesco's' (5 mins walk and BIL knows the area! We were so sleep deprived DP went.

Spending all the time glued to the rugby world cup? which was on at the time. Roaring at the TV (which would sometimes wake the girls up when we'd got them off to sleep).

Never changing so much much as a nappy.

Doing her best to butt into MW and HV visits. It was down to the MW's and HV's that she wasn't there, I am so grateful to them for that.

I could go on and on (there is soooooo much more) but you get the picture. I have to say I'm not sure I'll ever forgive them for it.

Needless to say all MIL's polite yet persistant offers to help have been turned down with a firm yet polite thanks, but we'll be OK this time.

Tonysmum - I'm finding cleaning really hard now because it lays me out the following day. Unfortunately, our house is in need of much cleaning so I'm just trying to take it slowly.

All this chocolate bar related talk is heaven. I seem to be eating solely cake at the moment. Must try to stop.

Has anyone else discoverd that they can't eat more than about 1/2 saucers worth of food at any point without feeling awful?

I suspect it's a sign that Marnie's pretty big now. Incidentally, I'm off to the hospital to be palpated and possibly scanned as the MW can't work out where she is, she thinks she's back to back but wants a second opinion. I'm also measuring 2cm above the 35cm I should be and she thinks there may be a bit too much amniotic fluid. None of these things are necessarily bad and could all just be explained by her being back to back but best to be sure. Hope my home water birth isn't about to trickle down the plug hole in front of me.

Kayla - sorry to hear you're feeling ropey. Try and get your feet up above the level of your heart (best done whilst loafing on sofa and eating cake in my experience ).

Littleoldme - I think I'm on the cusp of waddling too. It really lends an air of elegance to being up the duff mais non? I feel like I'm waddling but DP claims I'm not (quite) but he'd say anything cos he loves me!

Incidentally, I've stopped being such a cow. I had a good nights sleep last week wednesday and on thursday afternoon it really hit me just what a cow I was being, so much so that I started crying. Anyway, I had a chat with DP and aplolgised (a lot) he said, (yeah, you guessed) that I wasn't being a cow! Anyway, I'm on sweetness and light detail from here on in.

Easywriter · 08/10/2007 04:35

Meant to say my hospital appointment is at 9am this morning. Am scared that there may turn out to be something wrong with her but am excited that I may just get to see my cheeky chopster on the ultrasound.

ChocolateHobnob · 08/10/2007 06:50

Hi Easywriter, I am sure she'll be absolutely fine - they scan to be on the safe side. And if it's just that she's back to back you can do all that wriggling on birth ball/all fours/etc! I'll think of you at 9 am. Well done on the sweetness and light... something for me to contemplate... hmm.

Kayla, sounds like you're in a bad way! Hope the doc can help.

Littleoldme, I suspect you're right about Primark. But seriously yesterday I thought I might faint in the queue. It was horribly hot and the queue went on forever, and people were pushing...
I love Whitby and the idea of coastal fish and chips!

Jetgirl, smoothies are yum! I had loads at the start of the pregnancy and then went off them. I might resurrect them now you've reminded me. Not that it would eliminate chocolate from my diet... specially now I've rediscovered Wispa...

My bump has tilted down and further forward -was 3/5 engaged and now it's clearly more than that (unless lo has tipped upside down!!). It makes me look more contorted than before but I do have sides/hips again, whereas bump was spreading that way before. I do look a bit like I'm about to pop so I bet I'll scare everyone at work...

Good luck today Easywriter and hugs to everyone.

FCH · 08/10/2007 10:19

Goodness - there really are some early risers on here! I thought I would check in from the interesting world of my first day of maternity leave. I thought I would have a nice lie in but woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, and now I have made a list of all the things I said I would do before the baby arrives I am wishing I was back at work!!

I did laugh at the Rugby conversations. DH has been excited about it all weekend and I am ashamed to admit I am always relieved once all the british teams are knocked out of these things so we can stop having 5 live in the car and stop having the TV on in the background to keep up with what is happening - I am so grumpy!!

But - 1 exciting thing to report - I ordered my Birth Pool in a Box this morning! Yeah!! Just hoping the postal strike doesn't affect it... Fingers crossed...

Right - off to start unpacking and putting all my hideous maternity uniform in a bag in the loft just in case I do need it again...

RGPargy · 08/10/2007 11:10

Morning everyone

Well, i can now officially say that i finish work next week! The end is nigh!! Yeeeeaaahh!!!! This is my last full week now as Wednesday next week is my last day. I'm soooooo ready to go now!

Jet - glad you've got the balance right. That's what i like to hear! I'm with you on making the most of loo trips. So annoying to keep trudging up the stairs for "extras" isn't it!!

LOM - Nice to know you had a good day out. Mmmm chips by the sea, hot donuts and ice cream. Pure heaven! Obviously we cant eat the ice cream (yet) but the rest is just as good i think!

Anna - PMSL at NZ being in national mourning over the bloody rugby! Have they seriously got nothing else to worry about?!

Kayla - Sorry you're feeling a bit crap lately. Make sure you put your feet up higher than your heart to reduce the swelling. And yes, you should deffo cheer yourself up with cake and TV on the sofa.

Easy - I sympathise re the decorating. Baby's room has only just been half-plastered and it still looks like a shell of a room. That's bad enough, let alone the whole house! You poor thing!

Glad you are taking control of the in-law situation. When you've had a baby the last thing you need is someone putting demands on you. Good luck at the hospital today. I'm sure Marnie's fine. A fundal height of 2cm over isn't that big a deal. My MW told me that if it gets to 3cm, then they start to monitor you so i'm sure everything will be fine.

I know what you about not being able to eat much. I'm the same too, with the except of last night. I'd made some parsnip chips and cooked brocolli and cheese bakes with veg too and it was just all soooo nice that i just HAD to finish it all off.

I'm deffo now in Waddle City. I can feel it when i walk, plus it takes me double the time to get anywhere which doesn't happen when i dont waddle! Nice to know you have stopped being a cow too. I sometimes feel so sorry for DPs and DHs coz they just get the brunt of all our grumpiness!

FCH - at you starting mat leave now. Still, Thursday next week will probably see me writing the same thing as you on that front! It doesn't matter that you got up early. You can now doze on the sofa as and when you like. Yippee!! Stick Phil & Fern on, put your feet up and eat cake. Perfect! As for your list, do you really need to do EVERYTHING on it before baby comes? If so, just try and do one thing every day or two rather than it making you feel daunted! Oooo you've ordered your BPIAB! How exciting! I must order mine soon too. I need to check tho that they'll accept a return of it if i dont unpack it, just in case LO is breech or in the wrong position. Cant see that happening personally, but you never can tell! Did you order the filling/emptying pump too? How long does it take for delivery?

Right, i do actually have some work to do this morning (shock horror) so i'd best get on and do that.

Have a good morning everyone!

Floanna · 08/10/2007 12:06

Hi All,

Not been on for ages so just been catching up with all your posts.

Can't believe all the talk of Christmas and how organised some people are - I'm rubbish!

SGK - so chuffed to hear that things are going well.

Not been on for a while as had to deal with this whole 'theft' issue and also had to go into hospital on Thurs . Everything turned out to be fine but had some bleeding so just wanted it to be checked out. Nothing to worry about but had to have a mw come out to me on Sat to give me a top-up anti d injection - owwwwww!!

Can't believe how close we all are now ladies!!

Morning everyone. Well actually it it afternoon as its taken so long to read all the posts.

I actually started on the christmas pressies last week and rand DH at work to ask him about things for his parents and he just wasn't helpful at all, didn't like my ideas but had none of his own. We have to be quite organised as well as they have to be sent to SA. My families are easier because a) iknow what they would want and b) my mum is coming for a few weeks at the end on Nov to help me and will take pressies home with her so don't have to catch the post.

Talking of trying to be friendly to DH he is really trying his luck as he got 2 traffic tickets last week. One for being in a boxed junction (with photo to prove it) and the other for parking .

Anna -feel free to send me any good advise from those experts at how to cope as I'm still in

RG - I did order the filling / emptying kit, and the heat retaining cover - I'm afraid I decided that if I was spending £90 on the basic kit I might just as well blow the extra £40. This is obviously the kind of brilliant logic that has me wondering if I really can afford new curtains for the study as I have overspent on everything I have bought recently. The thing is that DH, who is normally the personification of sensibleness has also got pregnancy hormones and has just decided that he doesn't care, so now he is actually being a bad influence too!

On the delivery front - it says 3-5 working days, although there was an option to pay extra for next working day delivery. I didn't on the basis that the beginning of next week should be in plenty of time!!

Right - I am going to unpack one more bag before I go out for my stroll!
