ELB1 · 30/09/2007 21:07

Hello SGK - I just showed my DH your photos as our LO has been cooking for exactly the same time as Callum had when he was born (on my birthday BTW - a great day to have one if I say so myself)!
He couldn't believe it! I think it has made him feel it's very real now - not just a fatter tummy than usual!

Glad you are both well - good luck to you!

PS - what's the name of the music on your montage?

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 21:07

I am glad in a way, that it is over, but I keep thinking that a week ago he was still inside me kicking and wish he still was.

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 21:13

elb its called amazing, can't remember the artist, misdee has the album, i think its a gospal(sp?) singer iirc, sorry about lack of capitals, am expressing milk atm

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 21:14

i know just want your dh means though elb. i couldn't work out how a baby fitted in there, couldn't imagine him at all, and now he is here, i can't work out how he was inside me!

BunnyBaby · 30/09/2007 21:37

Hello - thanks for the good wishes. Unbelievably I slept all the way through and have been able to eat a few bits today, so reflexology really worked. I was amazed as I didn't think it would stop it so quickly. The doctor confirmed that there would be no side effects for the baby, just that if the bottom end carried on for a few days it could trigger premature labour. Am going to take tomorrow off and rest a a trip to the supermarket wiped me out today. Watch out for bugs girls!

KaylaBmummy · 30/09/2007 22:38

Aikigypsy, Thelady, Loopymummy, SGK and Jetgirl, thanks so much for that positive info and advice. From what you have said I think I will have a go. I know im going to be sore but personally this being the last baby im going to have, I would really love to be able to breastfeed properly for a good few months if not longer. Also thank you for the info on positioning the baby SGK i.e. lying it by your side and also the "Rugby ball position" I was not aware of them and that they make latching on easier so I have just been told.

I am going to go onto the Thread THELADY has suggested now and try and find out much more as I am a complete novice so thank you so much for the thread.

My relative is an oldish lady who always wears a knitted to piece and comments with "Oh no luvvy you dont want to be doing that" and then carries on with her opinion but I think she means well It can be quite funny with other subjects and opinions my DH thinks she's a tonic wish I felt the same

Anyway Im off to check out this thread and get all the info I can. A big thank you again you are all so nice and helpful on this thread Will catch up with a read later, Bye for now.

RGPargy · 30/09/2007 23:10

Evening ladies!

Blimey, we don't 'alf gossip, dont we! so much to catch up on!

Loopy - Ah i see, didn't realise your DCs were quite so young! Yes, best to get them farmed out. Nothing worse than them asking you mid-contraction for a drink or summat lol.

Silk - sorry you are having a rough time. It's a shame that your MW unit is like a hospital too. I would have expected it to be more like a home-from-home so you'd feel more relaxed. I've never been to one tho so i cant really comment.

Fiona - yes you can dye your hair during pg. i've had mine done about 3 times so far (am awaiting an appointment for my 4th time). I checked, double checked and triple checked first that it was ok and it's absolutely fine. Go for it!

Easy - I remember that book title! I think i had it when i was pg with DS 17 years ago! I cant remember what was in it now tho.

Jet - lol at your fella doing funny shapes with the Immac

ELB - i'm the same as you with regard to sitting down for a bit and getting stiff. It's horrible isn't it! i feel like i'm 90 when i first get up off the sofa, but once i walk around etc, sometimes i forget that i'm pg until i go and try and bend over or summat and then realise there's something in the way!

Sparkly - so glad you are feeling better today. You deffo sound sunnier in your posts. I'm getting excited for you for when you get to take Callum home. I know what it's like too when LO is in SCBU. DS was born with meningitis and was in SCBU for 2 weeks before, two lumbar punctures later, he was finally allowed home! It's a great feeling taking them home isn't it.

Bunny - glad you're feeling better today.

Kayla - sometimes "old" people mean well but half the time they talk out of the backsides lol. Glad you are feeling more positive about BF. when i was first got pg i was really nervous about even the though of BF but now i'm really looking forward to giving it a good go and am seriously hoping it will work for me.

We got our travel system today. Nice and shiny and brand new! It's so nice to be able to get something nice and sparkly. With DS i couldn't afford anything new so almost 99% of stuff had been used. It's nice to now be able to afford new stuff, although i've also got a fair bit of second hand stuff too, which will obviously save us a fortune!

Anyway, months ago we decided to get the Britax Ultra Travel System. It was only £179 (reduced from £209) in Toys R Us. So when we picked it up today, it was reduced even further to £149. Bargain! It comes with a car seat too and as it's Britax (who started off as car seat manufacturers, iirc) you cant go far wrong really! There was also another Britax travel system with a carrycot too, but the carrycot was just sooooo tiny and narrow that i really doubt it would last five minutes. If i were laying in it i would feel quite claustrophic too because it was just so small. It certainly wasn't worth the extra £50 they were charging for that particular travel system. Of course if you've got LOADS of money to spend on a pushchair/travel system, i had a look at the Mutsy 4Rider too. It's absolutely GORGEOUS but very very pricey. It was £279 just for the pushchair and the car seat was another £99. We really couldn't justify spending £400 on a pushchair. Shame tho, I think it's a gorgeous model!

Well, sleep well ladies, no doubt see you tomorrow while i'm busy at work doing absolutely nothing!

N'night!

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 23:31

just had to express again, so am still awake, I know I will not have this luxury once Callum comes home, and will be sleeping when he is sleeping DH keeps asking if I feel like a cow being milked lol Milk supply is great, and I think my kids can't believe the difference in me, the last few weeks I have been a cow, I found the pregnancy uncomfortable and worrying tbh, but now I have a the size of a house.

RGPargy · 30/09/2007 23:36

Good for you, SGK!! Moooooooo!!!!

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 23:41

I do feel like a cow being milked though, its strange sitting here with a machine attached to your breasts instead of a baby. The kids are all fastanted (sp?) by the pump and like to watch the milk drip into the bottle DS1 said today 'another pump mum??' as I ended up buying a Medela pump as I couldn;t get on with the boots electric one or the tommy tippee handpump. If anyone wants to buy the boots or the tommy tippee ones off me let me know

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 23:45

oh forgot to say, Callum was weighed last night and has lost a bit of weight, he is now 4lb 2oz.

RGPargy · 30/09/2007 23:47

Isn't it normal for babies to lose a bit of weight after birth?

i'm going to be buying a Medela electric pump too at some point. I've heard they're really noisy tho so let me know what you think of it.

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 23:51

yes its quite noisy, but its fab pump, its the best I have ever used (and have used a few having the girls in SCBU too) the one in the hospital is really good and quiet, its a medela double pump, but you can't buy them, but can rent them fom mothercare (£40 a month), but if you can put up with the noise then just buy the mini electric, it really is worth the £54.

RGPargy · 30/09/2007 23:56

£54? blimey, the one i saw was about £80!! Either i was looking at a different model or they were seriously upping their profit margins!! Cant remember where i saw it now tho. Where did you get yours from?

sparklygothkat · 01/10/2007 00:03

the mini pump is £54

the swing pump is £89 not sure what the difference is but the mini one is great

Easywriter · 01/10/2007 06:06

SGK - And now you're going to think I'm REALLY stupid. If it's normal for your milk to come in on day 2-3 what's baby eating until then? Will baby ever be full in those 2-3 days? How much do you breast feed until your milk comes in?

Sorry, I still just am not understanding how this works.

ChocolateHobnob · 01/10/2007 06:50

Hi all

Sparkly, I'm really happy that Callum is doing well. And well done you for your milk! It's great you're producing enough to feed him up!

Silk, lots of hugs for today. And shame about the MLU- I'd have expected it to be different too.

Fiona, I've had my hair highlighted a couple of times - with foils - I've seen no evidence that this isn't advised. I'm going to have it done again in a couple of weeks in preparation for not having time once lo is here. Hair makes all the difference to how I feel about myself as I grow and grow!

RG, your travel system sounds great. I found the whole thing a bit of a minefield to be honest! We were limited by the size of our house and carboot and we've ordered a Silvercross 3d with the Ventura carseat - it wasn't particularly cheap but the carrycot in pram mode is really comfy and cosy for a newborn. We've had the carseat for ages but the rest is arriving tomorrow, which is exciting.

Aiki, hope the finger's okay.

Kayla, not long for you to go! Exciting.

Sparkly/other BF experts: I want to breastfeed, but what if it doesn't work? Should I buy in stuff to feed formula just in case? and should I wait to buy a breast pump?

Also, this is another stupid question, what do you wear to labour in in the hospital? I was wanting to use the pool so I assume nothing, but the pools could be occupied... so... is it just an old nightshirt or something? I think I need to go to Primark or somewhere cheap!

It's October now. My lo's due 31st. Not so long!

Floanna · 01/10/2007 09:48

Morning all,

Had a rubbish morning. Been spending quite a lot of time at my parents' house recently while my sis has been back from uni. To set the scene my parents live up a little private close with 3/4 houses on it so very few people know it's there.

Anyway, while she was back someone broke into her car. In the same week my mum was worried someone had broken into hers as she went out to it one morning and one of the doors was open.

When my dad when out to his car this morning he's also been broken into and his power tools stolen.

Feels like we're being targeted and it's horrible

Anyway, enough of my moan, sorry, jut needed to get it out!

Fingerbobs · 01/10/2007 09:53

Hello all, ages since I posted - today's the day we can say that our babies are due 'next month', how exciting is that??
Congratulations to Sparkly - hope Callum is home with you v. soon.

choudru · 01/10/2007 10:59

Morning everyone,

Floanna, that's awful - I would feel so vulnerable and violated.

It would be impossible for me to catch up on all the weekend's chatting - am not as methodical as RG etc. My mind is like spaghetti right now!

RG - I hope you are feeling more cheerful about having to work for another 2 weeks - I did used to hate those days at work when you are just sitting doing nothing. It's not like you're relaxing and it's not like you're nicely busy making the day go faster. Plus you have to look busy when people are around. Grrrr...

Jealous that you've got your travel system sorted. I still need to order mine. DH still thinks I am spending too much on it but considering pretty much everything we have for the LO is second hand, I have decided I can afford one luxury.

Aiki - how awful about your finger! Cringe cringe!

Ara - Am so glad to hear you sorted things out with DP. I was worried for you - just goes to show an open and honest chat can do wonders sometimes.

Loopy - what were you going to say about car seats?

We went to our 2nd NCT antenatal class on saturday. Whoever mentioned 6 hour sessions, I don't know how you do it! I find our 4 hour sessions pretty tiring. DH was well into it all as he was last week. Have a BFing class on tuesday but he'll be staying at home to look after DS. Will have to set the video for Bringing up Baby. Although I have just remembered, it will be on an hour later on Channel4+1 so can watch it at 10pm instead.

Our NCT teacher told us that the whole raspberry leaf tea thing is not recommended for women who've had sections. ANyone shed any light on this?

Easy - you can have a donut but it's only polite that you offer some cake-type thing in return You'll have to wait a week or two though because little and I still haven't got round to meeting up. Will probably get to meet up once little starts her maternity and then the virtual donuts will be distributed.

Little - I hope you're feeling a lot better. It's so unfair getting colds and flus whilst pregnant - as if we don't have enough to deal with!

Giving coffee morning a miss this morning - am exhausted and just want to lie down and watch daytime TV.

Went out for a bit family meal on saturday night. Was nice but I have a very low tolerance for young kids right now - including my gorgeous neice and nephews (5,3 and 1). I'm barely able to cope with my DS (2), never mind another 3 kids fidgeting, sulking, shouting, crying etc etc. They are not any more naughty than they should be at their age but I just don't have the reserves to deal with it. I found it all very stressful and couldn't wait to get home to bed.

Sister explained it away by saying they were tired as it was past bedtime and 1 year old wasn't well. And all I could think was 'WELL WHY ARE YOU TAKING 3 TIRED AND UNWELL CHILDREN OUT FOR A BLOODY MEAL!)

What a grumpy auntie I have become!

Could tell DH was struggling as well.

Kids eh? One minute you find them so adorable you can barely contain your love for them and the next they make you want to bang your head repeatedly against the nearest wall.

Sparkly - montage is very moving - made me so eager to see LO. Now DS wants it on repeat! Am glad he's seen it - told him we'd have a baby like that soon to prepare him a little more.

I'm off now - enough rambling - need to lie down I think he he

OP posts:
iris66 · 01/10/2007 11:17

next month? - eeeek! how did that come round so quickly?!

Sparkly - I hope Callum continues to improve and is able to come home with you soon.

Floanna - how horrible for you! - Sounds like some scumbag's found the close and is just taking advantage

ChocolateHobNob - I've got the Silvercross sleepover system from a couple of years ago and I love it. The new 3d is gorgeous!
FWIW re BF I got 3 bottles a pump and a travel steriliser. The pump (medela - brilliant) and steriliser got used but not the bottles (DS wouldn't take EBM from a bottle). I wouldn't even think of getting formula in - you can get it anytime if you really need it, and if you're having a hard night you may be tempted to give formula then regret it later. Keep thinking positive about bf - it could well be a doddle for you!
What to wear in labour... anything you don't mind getting trashed (I'll have an old sarong knotted over my boobs as it's easy to whip off/pull down to bf)

Aikigypsy - hope your finger's healing ok - that sounds soooo painful!

Bunnybaby - glad the reflexology worked so well for you. It's a lovely therapy (I had all through my past pg and in labour)

hope everyone else is having a good day (apart from the grim weather!)

iris66 · 01/10/2007 11:19

choudru - my child tolerance levels sound a bit like yours atm

berrybliss · 01/10/2007 11:29

hi all, oh so very tired today its impossible to sleep. I do sleep but it always seems to be very light sleep with vivid dreams, its just like i can't realax. Does anyone else find this?

So im with you choudru- day time tv today. I think the grey weather also makes it worse i think! Bring on Christmas!!

I still havent ordered my travel system as people keep telling me that it's bad luck to have it in the house before the baby arrives.
I know it's silly but feel that if i do get it and something does go wrong then it'll be the fault of the pushchair!! God how stupid does that sound written down... anyway to be on the safe side i think we'll have it sent to the MILs house and collect it after the birth. or nearer the time.
Anyway i've decided to go for the Quinny buzz in capri. I've chosen it because its prettiest and also baby can face either way also dp likes the fact it puts itself up!! But have been told it doesn't have much storage underneath. but i'm sure there's a way round that!

I can't be beleive that our babies will be born next month!!!

RGPargy · 01/10/2007 12:25

Morning everyone!

Sparkly - thanx for the links there. Think i'll be going for the Medela mini, rather than the swing. Do you think i should get a pump in before baby comes or after and only if i need it?

Easy - IIRC it's colostrum (sp?) that comes in the first few days, which is very calorie rich for baby and does them just fine til the milk comes in.

Choc - yeah trying to find the right pushchair/travel system is a nightmare! So many things to consider! We were originally going to go for a Graco but decided against it because reviews i read said it was really heavy and difficult to get into small shops. I probably wont be going into that many small shops etc but i dont want something that's heavy and cumbersome! You must be very excited that yours is turning up tomorrow! Yay!!

Floanna - oh how horrible for you all! It's probably not you being targeted, but rather a very quiet close where they are unlikely to get disturbed or soon.

Choudru - me? methodical?? Makes me sound like a right geek! I must admit tho, i do go back and forth on the thread and comment on the posts if i can! I was feeling more positive about only having 2 1/2 weeks left at work but i think the longer i sit here doing nothing, the more depressing my job gets. I spose one good thing is that i can at least watch some daytime TV because you can watch ITV online so i stick my headphones in and away i go with Jezza for two hours lol. I've also caught a bit of This Morning too although it's not normally my programme of choice, but bored beggars cant be choosers!!

I agree that you should be able to have at least one luxury baby item, especially if everything else is secondhand. Do you know what one you're going to go for?

Poor you being a grumpy pants at dinner Choudru. Being pg does make you all tired, knackered and snappy at the best of times, let alone when there are kids there who are being whiney! Ah well, i'm sure it'll be better when LO arrives NEXT MONTH!! (EEEEEK!!)

Berry - sorry you're not sleeping very well. That's the one thing that i CAN do - sleep!! It's just the getting up when the alarm goes off thing that i'm struggling with atm! Glad you've found your perfect pushchair. Makes it seem even more real doesn't it when you buy something like that!!

It's all becoming very real now isn't it, even after the scans and kicks etc.

Do you think your babies will arrive on time? I have a feeling that mine will arrive at 38 weeks. Dont know why, but i just do. DS was 3 weeks early too (although he was poorly so maybe that was why).

We should have a book open or yet another stats list of dates due and our own personal EDD!

iris66 · 01/10/2007 12:54

RGPargy - roll on the next 21/2 weeks eh! It'd drive me nuts too being at work and being bored. At least you'll have more time off with LO than if you stopped work early (trying to sound convincingly positive )

I feel absolutely huge today. I think LO must have had a growth spurt as most of my maternity stuff bottoms are too tight round my bump now . I now only have one skirt and 2 pairs of jersey (go baggy as soon as you put them on) bottoms than fit . May have to do some self hypnosis to get LO to arrive at 38 weeks so I don't completely explode!!
