Good morning everyone!

Aiki - O U C H ! ! ! It's amazing how much our pg brains make us forget isn't it - make sure you double check to see if you've unplugged it next time!

Anna - Oh how frustrating for you! i can see why you wanted to go off for a cry for a bit. i think i would have felt the same too.

LOM - i've had those same type of pains the last couple of days, but i find it's normally when i've been busy during the day and then finally sit down. They do normally ease off when i put my feet up for a bit so i dont think they are anything to worry about. Good luck with the parents today!

Floanna - i dont think i'd care if i was still up at 7am, just as long as i didn't have to do the awful commute to work every day! At least you can sit and doze when you want to when you feel tired. UGH!! i SOOOO cannot wait!

We're off to buy the travel system today, finally!

Have a great day everyone!

Floanna · 30/09/2007 12:35

Ooh, keep us posted about your travel system RGP - I've gotta get mine next week and I've NO idea where to start!!

Afternoon all. Hope everyone is ok. (mashed fingers and sickness/diarrhoea included)

RG - you're allowed an off day. Normally you seem so chirpy - glad yr back to yr old self.

I'm lying in bed , bossy DH won't let me out. MW called me in to birthing unit this morning for another check of everything. Urine is clear again today???!!!!! No idea what is going on. It was clear Thursday and had protein and signs of uti on Friday. BP is still high. When they listened to baby's heartbeat again with doppler this irregular rhythm problem showed up. I don't know what to think tbh. Have to spend tomorrow at the day assesment unit having BP checked every hour or so. Also MW said if BP stays at this rate I can't use the midwife led unit and have a water birth. But she said the main delivery suite has a pool too so I could possbily use that. MW led unit seemed much more clinical than I expected (just like a normal hospital ward actually). If I had no complications I'd be opting for HB now I think.

SGK - hope Callum is better soon. Give him a kiss and a snuggle from all of us. My DSS (aged 12) loved the pictures of him too.

Have just got round to watching Bringing Home Baby. at leaving babies on their own outside for 3 hours. Can't believe anyone would do it.

ChocolateHobnob · 30/09/2007 14:51

Hi all

Silk, sorry to hear about your BP and lo's heart rate. I guess the monitoring is just to be on the safe side - you'd better take the excuse to lie down and rest! Hope it goes okay tomorrow.

Aiki, OW! I caught my finger on the Magimix blade when it was switched off and that was bad enough!

RG, are you having a better day?

Bunny, are you okay today too?

And SGK, really sorry to hear about Callum, hope he gets better soon.

That Bringing Up Baby programme was scary, really. Why have a baby to leave it outside all day??

I had another 6 hour antenatal class yesterday (NCT) - I always seem to leave them feeling I'll be useless in labour and desperate for an epidural, when the rest of the time I want a waterbirth and am thinking positive! Oh well. Had friends for dinner, made chicken and spinach curry and then chocolate brownies which I served with raspberries and ice cream. Fun.

Today we've spent a scandalous sum in Mamas and Papas - lo's room looks sooo lovely though. I have taken to sitting in it on my glider chair cos it's so much nicer than the rest of the house!

Cant believe there's only a month or so to go before we're due! So exciting.

aikigypsy · 30/09/2007 17:23

Finger is still sore, but that's no surprise, really. The main thing is that I'm irritated because I had so much I was going to do today, and I really shouldn't be chopping vegetables, doing housework, and washing dishes especially with my finger like this. I suppose I should lie down and listen to the hypnopirthing recording, which I haven't done in at least a week.

Thanks for the sympathies! LOL at Floanna's brother!

KaylaBmummy · 30/09/2007 17:39

Hi EMPEN - I had to have an elective c-section due to medical conditions. The first date was for 38 weeks but was back in hospital 2 weeks ago quite poorly so they brought it forward to 37 weeks. If there is a medical reason to do with you or baby they will bring it forward, but after researching MN most mums seem to have them around 38/39 weeks. Hope your Pg is going well. I am just waiting for my date to come in post but when you see the consultant he arranges for a date to be made at so many weeks and then you just wait and hope its not busy that week, but I have been told that mine will be definate due to illness. I am also looking forward, as I said before its nice to know LO is not to far away now.

KaylaBmummy · 30/09/2007 17:53

EMPEN - Hi again, sorry, I read that through and what I meant to say is you see the consultant but you dont get the date from him, he arranges it and your date comes in the post, but if they are busy that week it can go slightly over the 38 weeks. My friend was booked for a 39 week one and the date arrived for 39+3 days as there were a few c-sections booked, just thought Id mention this, incase you were expecting it to be bang on. Hope this explains it slightly better Empen, If you want ot ask anything else about date and c-section just let me know Take care

KaylaBmummy · 30/09/2007 17:57

Aikigypsey - Sorry to hear about the fingers it sounded so painful, take care and hope your feeling better soon.

KaylaBmummy · 30/09/2007 18:28

Hi Ladies - Hope you dont mind me asking on this thread but has anyone breastfed after a c-section and if you did, did it go ok. Has anyone got any good tips or advice on doing it successfully. Sorry for asking but I tried it on both my other two pregnancies which were good vaginal births but unfortunately i failed miserably. I found nurses not very helpful 20 years ago in the hospital I was in as I could'nt get them to latch on and the nurses seemed busy and cos I only had my poor old dad around I decided to give up and put onto the bottle after a week. I have been thinking about trying again with this one for weeks and would really like too but having doubts now as relative said I have enough to cope with after c-section and dont need the added stress and trying to get breast feeding right . If you have any good advice I would be really grateful, will I have milk after c-section, do I need to wait a day or two? If I should have opened a new thread, then sorry for butting in, really hope you all dont mind me asking Relative has just left leaving endless reasons why I should'nt, feeling quite low .

aikigypsy · 30/09/2007 18:42

Kayla no personal experience, but I have a friend who had a c-seciton in August (after a 31 hour labour! Ouch!) and has done very well with breastfeeding. The lactation consultant she saw 2 weeks after the birth said that her baby was one of the most efficient breastfeeders she'd ever seen lots of sucking power. So, there's one annecdote to demonstrate that it can got well.

thelady · 30/09/2007 18:50

KaylaBMummy: you might like to ask the question in the [[http://mumsnet.com/Talk/1364?subtop=0&stamp=070930184401&off=0&tot=8949] Breast and Bottle feeding] section as well.

Again, no personal experience, but I've been told that your milk may (only may) take a day or so extra to come in and you may need to hold your baby differently (rugby ball rather than cradle) because of the scar.

I would have thought that dealing with steralising, making up bottles, etc. would be just as hard (if not more so) after a C-section as breastfeeding, especially if you can get hold of an expert for advice. I'm actually planning to breastfeed because dealing with all the paraphanalia of bottle-feeding when all we've got is the hotel kitchen just doesn't bear thinking about.

Imagine: 7pm on a Friday night as DH is in the middle of food service, thelady swans into the kitchen "excuse me, dear, but I need to feed tadpole - I'll need boiling water, the microwave to steralise bottles, and space to make up a feed"

thelady · 30/09/2007 18:51

Hi all everyone sounds like they need to put their feet up and relax. You deserve it!
I braved an NCT nearly new sale today and bought a lovely baby gym and a christmas baby t- shirt- cute.
I have a question for you wise and lovely ladies can I dye my hair? I have actually done it earlier in my pregnancy but went to get it done at the salon a few weeks ago- quite a treat as normal just get a supermarket job and they said I can't as I'm pg. Now my hair is mousie and lots of greys are peeping through. Can I or can't I everyone seems to have different opinions.

Easywriter · 30/09/2007 19:38

If you read and believe 'What to expect when you are expecting' then the answer's no, but then you'll also be moving to a town where there are no cars driving down the roads causing you to breathe in toxic fumes.

My take on it is, yes you can dye your hair. I even get mine chemically straightened (caution to the wind my friends!). There is no evidence to show dyeing your hair affects your baby. However what if you're randomly THAT person who has an awful reaction? That's what you're weighing up.

Get a strand test done if you really want to be on the safe side. Me? Obviously, I'd just go for it. Looks are everything dahling (when you look like you've swallowed a beach ball) if only the bits you can see!

Kayla, Loopy is right, I had a CS with my Ds1 and managed to breastfeed him successly. I used a pillow on my lap to take the weight of DS1 off my stomach, which helped. My milk came in on the normal day (I think it was day 2-3) I also found feeding side by side easier too, ie lay on the side you want to feed from and bring the baby towards you, so he/she is laying on their side too and can feed. Just watch you don;t fall asleep, very easy to fall asleep when in that position

jetgirl · 30/09/2007 20:36

Ara - I know what you mean about the cramps, never cried with them before this pregnancy, and can't wait not to have them again.

Sparkly - hope you're doing okay, and Callum too, sending you a big hug.

Aiki - OMG , I think I would have thrown up or fainted. I am about to do some shredding so I will be extra careful!

Kayla - A friend of mine had a section and breastfed successfully afterwards until her DD was a year old, so it can be done. Hope this makes you feel a bit happier - relatives can be a pain can't they?

Re lady garden - I have always been too much of a wimp to wax anything and I use Veet cream instead. Now I can't see down there I have asked DH to do it for me, but fear he may try to do some strange pattern

Hello,

Have had a busy day doing housework today - don't think I'm nesting yet, just trying to keep busy as the minute I seem to sit down for a while I feel all fat and stiffen up. TBH I'm missing being normal now and can't wait for the day!

DH and I went to visit the hospital last week. I thought it was OK - although evrything was very old and tired. They are building a new one but not in time for my LO. Bit shocked that there were 8 birthing rooms and only 1 toilet mind. Hopefully it won't be busy when I go in or I shall be crashing the mens visitor loo!

KaylaBMummy - my cousin had her DS2 in June at 36 weeks by CS as she had placenta praevia and she BF with no problems. She wasn;t able to do it for DS1 as he had some health problems, but has loved it with DS2. She did tell me it hurt her stomach like hell in the beginning though!

Fiona76 - I agree with the sensible advice already given, but I am too of the go for it variety and had mine done about 3 weeks ago. Up to you I think.

sparklygothkat · 30/09/2007 20:41

I'm ok, have lots of milk, which is great for Callum, as I have enough to cover all his feeds Callum is doing ok, he was still under the lamp when I visited earlier, naked apart from his nappy and a pair of sunnies But the nurse said he should be able to come back out of the incubator this evening. I am just feeling sooooo happy!!!! I have a beautiful son and can't wait to have him home
