Iris - Nice try at sounding positive

I feel quite big today too. I woke up this morning and i swear my tummy looked bigger than it did last night! I can see myself living in my (very comfy) trackies right til the end. It's all about comfort at the end tho isn't it?!

sparklygothkat · 01/10/2007 13:42

hello, callum is doing well, he is out the incubator and back in his heated cot His feeds have gone up again so I have express more to cover his feeds. Tried to feed him today at feeding time when he was awake, and he actually latched on and had a little suck, he did try a few times, but I don't think he know exactly what he is supposed to do yet.

aikigypsy · 01/10/2007 13:59

Choudru -- The midwife I saw at my last appointment said that in the clinic where she used to work, they observed that women who drank raspberry leaf tea bled more. That may have something to do with not using it after a c-section. I am now on the fence about trying it, depite the promissed shorter labour.

Floanna -- So sorry! I hate it when things like that happen, not just the lost things but the feeling of violated trust in the world at large. I hope they catch whoever has been doing it.

Off to work today. 9 out of 10 fingers are working fine, and I'm pretty sure the bleeding has stopped, so I should be able to sit on a stool and fold a t-shirt ever hour or so.

Oddly, I feel like my bump has gotten smaller in the past week. Not sure what that's about. Maybe from being on my feet more?

sparklygothkat · 01/10/2007 14:02

keep meaning to ask, are you all ok with me still being on this group? I am on the sept postnatel group, but I came though my pregnancy with you lot and I know you better IYKWIM.

iris66 · 01/10/2007 14:11

Sparkly - of course we still want you here you daft bugger! You're going to be on the Nov postnatal group too aren't you?

sparklygothkat · 01/10/2007 14:16

I will be on the nov postnatel group with you lot as Callum will be doing things later than normal because of being premature.

iris66 · 01/10/2007 14:24

glad to hear it Callum wont really be doing things later though will he? (just in relation to the fact that he had his birthday a little early? )

RGPargy · 01/10/2007 14:27

Sparkly - you really dont need to ask that!! You and Callum are Slebs on this thread now so you just HAVE to hang around!!

fiona76 · 01/10/2007 14:43

My mums a midwife in NZ and she told me not to have raspberry leaf tea because in her experience it makes you bleed more even if you don't have a CS.
I have been very 'nigella' this morning and made a fruit crumble and banana muffins. Truth is had loads of unappelling old fruit in the bowl and LO and I have a fierce sweet tooth.
Its such a grotty day- good day for watching telly and eating muffins
My belly feels enormous can't believe I have another 6 weeks but I'm hoping it will come a few weeks early.

RGPargy · 01/10/2007 14:47

Fiona - mmmm lovely!! I cant wait to go on mat leave so i will actually have the time to do some cooking!

LizzieO · 01/10/2007 14:49

Hi everyone

Pelvic floors.....

good good, had a good but v busy weekend, and feel like i could do with an afternoon snooze tho' for def

SGK - hope you and Callum are ok, your pics really reminded me of when i was in hossie with my DS, I remember DS got jaundice too and had to go on the little sunbed thing with just nappy and a pair of goggles. bless him he looked like a tiny plucked chicken. Hope your re-united soon x

Aikigypsy - OMG you know i use my blender maybe once a month, and i'm always really paranoid about putting my hand in it and turning it on by mistake....i guess you only do that kinda thing once though, i hope you get better soon

RGPargy - you have my sympathy, nothing worse than having nothing to do all day, makes the time really drag, did you say you work p/time. Are you having a homebirth ?

Littleoldme - you might be over your cold now, but freshly grated ginger, fresh lemon juice and honey is a real winner

Easywriter - you were looking for Rasberry leaf tea - isn;t that one of the things you take to bring on labour ? or am i confusing it

am now thinking ahead to the birth, i'm going to try for a natural birth and avoid an epidural but wondering if i'm being naieve, just feel like with DS1 i had a CS at 7 months so missed out on the whole childbirth thing, and am not planning on having anymore. Thing is i have spoken to peeps who also went without epidural and the common concensus is that they would def just go for an epidural next time round

any thoughts anyone, is anyone just going straight for an epidural ?

RGPargy · 01/10/2007 15:12

Hi Lizzie

Squeeeeze: release: squeeeeeeze: release!!

Unfortunately Lizzie work full time and yes, the day does drag. ATM i am currently watching Jezza on ITV.com because it's the only thing to do that passes the time a bit quicker! Yes i am also having a home water birth (fingers crossed). Really looking forward to that!

As for epidural, i remember when i was expecting DS my friend had had one a couple of years earlier with her DS. She said that she still got a bit of a back ache from where the needle went in, even a couple of years later. Apart from them putting a needle directly into your spine, that was another thing that seriously put me off from having one. Each to their own etc, but my personal choice means they it doesn't even enter into the equation of birthing for me! Sorry if i've put people off now!

LizzieO · 01/10/2007 15:22

Hey RG Good luck with the homebirth it sounds lovely and if i didn't live in a terraced house i might be going for one too, just paranoid about all the noise

i am put off epidural as you kind of lose control, and are at greater risk of assisted birth and tearing etc, but may be screamin for one on the day !

3 weeks to go now at work, i work a 3 day week so in fact its only 8 days OMG !!!!

Was thinking i need to get cold water sterliser back from friend so i have bottles are ready and waiting, thats if i can't BF for any reason

blimey its all getting a bit close

RGPargy · 01/10/2007 15:28

I wouldn't let living in a terraced house put you off Lizzie. If it's during the day your neighbours might be at work anyway! Cant you just turn the telly up or put some music on if you start to get a bit "vocal"?

I've only got 13 days left at work so i'm not far behind you - and that's including today which is more or less finished, and it includes Wednesday, which i have off for my MW appointment. Yay!!

Pixiefish · 01/10/2007 15:52

I had an epidural last time but shall try without this time. Don't know if I'll manage it though- way I see it is there's less need for intervention without an epidural- we'll see

iris66 · 01/10/2007 16:04

I think anyone who has an epidural or section is massively brave. Both scare the pants off me (but here speaks someone who had a pretty bad hospital phobia up until a couple of years ago, and gets the vapours over anything medical, so don't let me put you off!)

littleoldme · 01/10/2007 16:46

Thanks for your cold remedies and advice on the pains I was having. You made me feel much calmer. The cold has more or less cleared up which is great

Sparkly - don't you even think about leaving us!!

Choudru - was your BF clss with the NCT? they've been pretty pants about getting in touch with me. I must e-mail them.

5 Days of work to go yay

jetgirl · 01/10/2007 17:30

Chocolatehobnob - with my first I didn't buy any bottlefeeding eqpt at all as I thought I would resort to it too quickly when things got a little painful. Wasn't until she was about 6 weeks old that I got a pump, steriliser and bottles and began to express a little, though only used that for the odd evening out. I began to express regularly when I returned to work, but she remained totally breastfed when at home, partly because I am lazy and partly because I just loved bf her. We didn't buy any formula until she was about 8 months old and tbh I found that a real faff.

You can't leave us Sparkly!

I drank raspberry leaf tea for the last month of my pregnancy last time; shan't bother this time: it tastes vile, my labour lasted 25 hours so I don't think it shortened anything, and I bled a lot during labour, though never knew why - perhaps it was down to the tea.

RG - I know what you mean about the needle in spine thing, I'm not phobic or anything but the mere thought of it terrified me. Had to have a spinal block afterwards for the repair job, but don't think I could have done labour with so little sensation even though it did hurt like hell at the time!

Gotta go - keep promising DD I will cook tea, and in-laws coming to stay for a couple of days tomorrow and the house is a tip. Nesting has only struck in the form of baking and knitting, no cleaning urges yet!

Pixiefish · 01/10/2007 17:33

you can get raspberry leaf tablets- apparently better than the tea

fiona76 · 01/10/2007 17:55

I really want as natural birth as posible I was thinking of homebirth but might be too chicken for that this time. Don't want epidural though and not buying any bottles as really want to BF straight away and for as long as I can ( have to go back to work at about 6 months so probably have to stop then.)

choudru · 01/10/2007 17:59

Little - yes the BF class is with NCT - part of the antenatal class sessions. 4x4 hours sessions plus a 2 hour session specifically about BFing. The lady I booked through is contactable at [email protected].

Get her to find out why you're not being contacted.

LizzieO - I am in exact same situation i.e. choosing VBAC after 7 month pregnancy with section last time. I have to say that after the informationwe recieved at antenatal class, I would rather avoid epidural if possible. My birth plan will probably be along the lines of 'try to survive on gas and air but subject to change as and when I demand it!'. The only thing with epidural is that it can pass to baby and make them sleepy and can slow down labour apparently.

One thing that our antenatal teacher told us about (which I had no idea about) was the transitional stage of labour. Apparently it's when most women are begging for an epidural but it can mean you're very very close to giving birth. SO not worth having an epidural at that stage. I would be interested to hear what you mothers who've had natural births make of that.

Sparkly - I think you do belong on the November postnatal. I remember I would assess DS's development against the babies that were born in the month he was due, not the month he was born.

If I baselined (baselined???!!!) him on full term babies that were born at the same time as him, I would have been even more stressed about his development than I already was!

So please do not dream of deserting us.

Aiki, jetgirl etc - thanks for the info on raspberry leaf. I heard it was meant to 'tone your uterus' which is maybe what helps increase your chances of a shorter labour?

I think I'll give it a miss anyway.

Chochobnob - don't buy formula just in case! Like has been said, you can always get it easily if you need it, but if it's around you migt resort to it quicker.

RG - sorry for calling you a geek, I would never call anyone a geek - except for our very own geekinpiggtails of course

I am still thinking of Phil and Ted's double buggy but the only thing that is holding me back from buying one is that apparently they say you can't use the travel system aspect of it with a toddler in as well. So if I put LO in car seat clipped into buggy, DS would have to walk. I did read someone on the internet saying they do it anyway so I need to look into that first. I probably need to start a new thread about it.

Hi Every1 , Im due 5th Nov & cant wait for it to get here! , anybody got any good ideas on what to do now im on maternity leave ?

berrybliss · 01/10/2007 18:59

hi kezjoben welcome to the November thred!
do you know what you're having is it your first? I've been off work for months now due to being really aneamic so i don't have any good ideas really, i am becoming addicted to mumsnet! Which will all change when LO arrives as i wont have the time!

iris66 · 01/10/2007 19:02

welcome kezjoben - what to do on mat leave? get as much rest as possible because you won't get any once the LO arrives (and for that I include - going to get your hair/nails done, having long relaxing baths, napping in the afternoons - or any other time it takes your fancy, going to the cinema, eating out in the evenings in childunfriendly places and spending as long as you want doing anything else that you feel like doing) When did you finish work?
