@ChipsAreLife thank you I hope you are right!!
Re the mam bottles, they seem to have 2 pack
Of self sterilising bottles at either 160ml or 260ml.
Can you advise will the 160ml
Do a good few months? I'm
Hoping to Breast feed but would like
Bottles for my partner to be involved in feeding too. Just thinking 2 is enough as opposed to a set of bottles?
also what's best way to sterilise these bottles? Thanks x

ShiningStarz · 01/07/2020 10:59

@ChipsAreLife also I presume a pump
Is required? I have the freezer milk bags but that's it!!

Laura1348 · 01/07/2020 11:00

@ChipsAreLife I've bought a lightweight one- weather 🤷‍♀️
Thanks

I too and feeling tired- I didn't have this in the first trimester so really struggling!

Sara7455 · 01/07/2020 11:08

@ChipsAreLife he’s doing really well - growing nicely and being fed milk now instead of IV nutrition which is great!
Very impatient to get him home, can’t believe he’s 2 weeks old already so hopefully the next few weeks will fly by as well!

ChipsAreLife · 01/07/2020 11:45

@ShiningStarz 160ml should be more than enough at the start. I've only got two bottles as only plan to do once a day because just expressing enough for one bottle is enough for me! You can self sterilise the mam ones but I have a tommee tippee steriliser that goes in the microwave. I also think you don't have to sterilise if it's for breast milk just wash in hot soapy water but I tend do as I'd rather be safe when tummies are so little.

You can get an expresser but I would use a hakkaa to start. And give yourself a couple of weeks to get milk in and supply going before you start expressing. So you could buy one once babies here and all is going well.

@Laura1348 glad it's not just me. I wake up and feel like I've had ten mins sleep!! I need to start napping I think.

@Sara7455 ah that is brilliant news, so pleased for you. Are you managing to express? Well done if so, it's so much hard work. Wow two weeks already, what a little legend he is! X

@ChipsAreLife yes I am expressing. Hospital have been very supportive but it’s definitely a lot of work! Luckily a friend has loaned me a hospital grade pump for at home but trying to keep on top of expressing enough times a day is quite tiring and time consuming! As he’s premature I do have to sterilise the expressing equipment so it feels like an endless cycle of expressing and sterilising. Definitely worth it for him but will be lovely when I can just breastfeed

OrDis · 01/07/2020 13:50

Do you buy special baby washing powder for the baby clothes or is just regular non-bio ok?

ShiningStarz · 01/07/2020 14:22

Thanks for that @ChipsAreLife I'll get the haakka and mam bottles on order! X

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 01/07/2020 16:10

Regular non bio is fine

Lazydaisydaydream · 01/07/2020 17:02

@ChipsAreLife thanks, that's really interesting. I'd been given the impression if I chose a c section it would have to happen at 38 weeks so will definitely ask whether waiting till 40 weeks is an option.

Lazydaisydaydream · 01/07/2020 17:05

And can't remember who was asking about hospital bag, but I bought a big weekend bag from amazon, like this:
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077BB82Z4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Jpl.EbR9SNQJ5?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

sianyflewog · 01/07/2020 17:54

@lazydaisydaydream When I spoke to my consultant she said I would be booked in at 39 weeks, but if I wanted to I could be booked in later to see if I went naturally first. I haven’t read back to your circumstances, but it’s worth asking!

What is so special about the haakka pump? I’ve seen people talk about it a lot. I really like the look of the Elvie and being able to just pop in your bra while you’re on the move, but can’t justify the price tag. I didn’t want to express at all last time as I felt like a cow, so I’m not wasting my money this time - will see how I feel once baby is here!

sianyflewog · 01/07/2020 17:56

Had a call from antenatal regarding my bloods from last week today. Was dreading the GD diagnosis but turns out I’m low on iron, so on extra iron tablets now 🙈

Roxy8203 · 01/07/2020 19:57

@ShiningStarz do you have a boot club card? If you sign up to the parenting club you can get a free mam bottle

Hope everyone is doing well?
I had my 28 week scan at hospital today was amazing to see how much my baby has grown since the last scan! You could really see her face! Then I had my midwife appointment at my town hospital so was a day of hospitals and wearing those horrible masks! Couldn’t breathe in it! Must be horrible to have to wear them all day.

Piper1879 · 01/07/2020 20:10

Ladies I'm getting into a flap about what clothes I need for the first few months and I feel so under prepared. Can anyone help ? Blush

LatteLover12 · 01/07/2020 20:22

That was me @Lazydaisydaydream that bag is lovely, thank you for sharing!

@piper1879 I've bought vests and babygrows in size 'up to 1 month' because I know my baby will be 8/9lb +

I never bother with scratch mits as I don't like them but most babygrows have them attached anyway (fold over the end of the sleeve).

I've bought little matching cotton hats (the ones with the knot in the top) and I've bought a pramsuit for when it turns chilly.

I think that's it clothes wise. I avoid any 'outfits' until they're 6m+ as they're uncomfortable to lie on and a pain in the arse when changing nappies.

LatteLover12 · 01/07/2020 20:23

Oh @Emmy2020 I wore a mask for the first time today and it was awful! I was so hot. I have no idea how anyone wears one all day. 🥵🥵🥵

WillowT · 01/07/2020 20:30

Totally agree on the masks. Wore mine for the first time when I saw the midwife and hated it!

@Piper1879 clothes wise we've been gifted some newborn clothes so hoping they will do for now! My friend said as long as you have some sleep suits you'll be fine as that's all they wear!

ShiningStarz · 01/07/2020 20:39

Thanks @Roxy8203 xx

Emmy2020 · 01/07/2020 20:57

@LatteLover12 @WillowT I was saying to the midwife and the lady who did my blood pressure, how do they cope wearing them all day! They said the first time was horrible and they felt claustrophobic. So glad I don’t have to wear one all the time!

Lazydaisydaydream · 01/07/2020 21:04

@sianyflewogthe haakaa isn't like an electric pump, it just suctions on and catches letdown Etc. Is really good for catching milk on the other side when you are feeding, or when you get out of the shower and it all gushes out haha!! I really struggled to pump with an electric pump, but could use the haakaa to get enough for top ups or mixing with his gaviscon meds Smile.

Haakaa is a particular brand but you can get cheaper versions, I think Aldi do their own version?

ShiningStarz · 01/07/2020 21:06

I signed up there @Roxy8203 so hopefully I don't miss out on the bottle 🤞🤞

ShiningStarz · 01/07/2020 21:10

@Piper1879 I got 3 newborn babygrows neutral patterned, 2 came with matching jackets and all with matching hats. I then got 5 pack plain white babygrows with integral mits but I did get a pack of 2 just incase.
I also got sleeveless vests as I'm hoping aug/sept will be mild enough.

I then got next up to 1 month (7 sleeved vests and sleepsuits) and 0-3 (7 sleeved vests and sleepsuits).

I'm just going to wash the newborn sizes for now and then closer to the time depending on what the docs tell me re. The weight I can decided to either use the up to 1 month or go straight to 0-3 and refund what I don't use x

Lilice · 01/07/2020 21:26

@Lazydaisydaydream I love the bag, thanks for sharing! I've just bought it 😄
@Sara7455 great to know Wren is doing well 👍
