Hi this thread is for any first timers or anyone really who wants to chat about their imminent arrival and general lack of idea of what to expect!

I realise that there is already an October thread but there seems to be quite a few people who have come a bit late to join in the discussion on there. Hope this doesn't offend anyone

hi folks
long time no speak.. i've been trying to occupy almost every minute of my day with something just to keep my mind off the lack of labour activity!! I'm due tomorrow, but i think think my baby is far too comfortable to come out just yet.

i'm sure i'm bound to regret this time of wishing it all away and begging for baby to come out NOW, but enough already eh!

Sounds like i've missed quite a bit.
Good luck with the sweep Stefka, it sounds like it may be moving things along... 2cm is a lot further than some of us by the sounds of it.

I too watched BUP last night.... am i the only one that was frustrated with that programme for the last few weeks, only for it to end so inconclusively! I was hoping for a bit more to be honest, or at least for that 1950's technique blond woman to be shot.

Any rumblings from anyone else??

Dalrymps · 17/10/2007 19:56

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing ok. Well i've been to see the registrar about my growth scan and had a 2nd scan this aft to check still growing at a normal rate, the conclusion is that he's perfectly normal and he's ok. They said that the other midwife who kept arranging all these scans for me and ringing the consultant had gone in to 'overkill' mode and worried me too much when he's not actually that small, they said he'll probably be a normal birth and i'll be back at the midwife led unit to recover straight away, they're just gonna send me to the hospital to err on the side of caution. So they said they are just going to treat me as normal now, they'll allow me to go a max of 10 days overdue and if no sign of him i'll be induced but they said thats pretty much procedure, they'll monitor his heart at 7 days over and give me an interntal to check how 'favourable' I am for induction. I told them i'd rather not be induced if i can help it but she said not to worry and it's a lot gentler than it used to be, they just put some prostin gel up to ripen the cervix and that usually starts it without the need of a hormone drip. However she did say in the meantime to try fresh pinapple, hot curry, hot sex and nipple stimulation. Apparently the nipple thing really works, she said in south africa where they don't have induction drugs they advise people to stimulate their nipples and it definately brings on labour... so those of you who are overdue, get twiddling! I've just had a hot curry and some fresh pinapple, don't know about labour but i can bet on the indegestion when i go to bed! Anyway i feel a bit more relaxed after the appointment so i can just concentrate on getting this baby out now, off to drink some raspberry leaf tea

LackingNicknameInspiration · 18/10/2007 08:47

Hi All

Just a quicky - haven't had a chance to read through threads but hope that everyone is well?

Just to let you know, I was pondering induction options prior to a sweep last Monday (8 october....) and feeling generally fed up due to overdue baby (due 29 Sep). Anyway, had chat with MW at Monday appointment who said I didn't need to accept induction although I could have it from Thursday 11 October. Was a bit reluctant to accept as wished to use the birthing unit at my local hospital and you can't if you're induced - but nor can you if you're more than 2 weeks late, so I agreed to daily monitoring from the Thurs and had mentally decided to go for induction from the Saturday if no joy.

Anyway, whilst with MW, she also suggested alternative methods such as reflexology and acupuncture and suggested a reflexologist. I had the sweep (at 9.30) and spoke to the reflexologist who came to see me for a one hour session at 3pm. Was having crampy pains from sweep already and a bit of a show (caused by sweep - had had no other signs of labour) - started to get a bit more uncomfortable after 8pm but didn't twig it was labour as it was fairly constant rather than peaks and troughs as I'd expected - I just thought I had constipation as well as the cramps!! Anyway, at 3am, having spoken to hospital twice, decided to go in for change of scene more than anything else, and was told I was 8cm dilated on arrival! Was expecting to be sent home - instead was tranferred to birthing unit as hoped, got into pool and had a very good birth - ended up getting out for the birth - had got out to go to loo and things sped up so decided to crack on with things then! My lovely little girl, Lucinda Rose (Lucy for short) was born at 10.21 am on Tuesday 9 October and was well worth the wait (but interestingly was covered in vernix and MW didn't think she was overdue - I'd thought she was due around 6 oct due to my cycle length).

So, glad to say I got her at last - and if anyone else is over, I thoroughly recommend the reflexology - reflexology says it's particularly effective following a sweep - hard to know but just pleased something worked!! But hope that gives some hope to anyone overdue as I had no signs of imminent labour whatsoever before last Monday and was only 1cm dilated at appointment with cervix still needing to soften.

Good luck all - and enjoy those babies!!

Collywobbles · 18/10/2007 08:50

Morning Lovely Ladies!

Dal - fab news about your scan! You must be so relieved! Love the 'twiddling' advice

Saying that, I'll think I'll ease off the 'bringing on labour' tactics for a day or 2 - need a bit of time for my bits to recover from an unfortunate Immac incident yesterday when baby brain led me to leave it on far to long....OW!

I hope everyone's indigestion was better last night and a good sleep was had by all.

xx

Dalrymps · 18/10/2007 09:07

hey collywobbles, yeah feel much more relaxed now, sorry to hear about your lady bits, was just reading the more detailed description of events on the other thread, ow indeed!
Surprisingly, even though i had a hot curry adn expected lots of indegestion i got none at all last night , i did have a glass of milk before bed though which always seems to help a bit.
Anyway off back to bed for a bit cause had to go to the loo about 1000 times last night, catch ya all later

Stefka · 18/10/2007 10:03

Congratulations LNI - thanks for the update. We were wondering how you were. I am glad it all went well for you. Interesting that the pain was not what you expected -I am starting to wonder what contractions will actually feel like.

Collywobbles - ouch on the immac incident - not something that you need!

Hope you catch up on some rest dalrymps.

I slept a bit better last night. I have had another night of period cramps. I keep being fooled into thinking that something is happening and it is so frustrating when it goes nowhere.

LackingNicknameInspiration · 18/10/2007 10:34

Thanks, Stefka. Not at all what I expected - I just spent most of the time thinking I'd be fine if I could have a poo - sorry TMI! Goes remarkably quickly though, which is good.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you (and for all) - have read through the posts now so see you're waiting and have tried the sweep - thing I'd really emphasise is that mine came pretty much out of the blue (no BH, no show other than that caused by the sweep and my waters broke right at the end of labour when I was in the pool - nice!.

Let us know how it goes - but it is all worth the wait. Cannot believe how much I'm enjoying being with Lucy.

MrsJoJo · 18/10/2007 10:43

Hi ladies

Hope you're all getting along OK... Congrats LNI - I'll be going for some Thai reflexology if I go past my due date(its a little different to the UK standard - my mum teaches reflexology so I know its just as good.)

I was exhausted yesterday so given the choice of sleep or communication I choose sleep!! It was dark when I got up after my nap, woken by DH on his way home from work wanting to know what I'd got for dinner...

Have to laugh at everyone being caught out in their jammies - me too! My maid is catching me in my skimpy nightie every day now (its not normally skimpy, but as its not maternity wear it now barely covers my knickers LOL). I'm certainly not complaining as she's now insisting I do nothing and keeps telling me off if I even go near the rubber gloves to do the washing up. She's only paid to come in twice a week but has decided she's full time right now - I think she's so excited she can't keep away!

My shingles seems to be getting worse - the sores look like they are spreading. I've got burning pains in the entire area and, as I said, I felt exhausted yesterday. I've spoken to my obstetrician and she wants me to go back in tomorrow - the two docs can't decide what to do but both agree that I should be given as good a chance as possible for it to go before LO arrives.

I'm sleeping fine but this could be because of the shingles - who knows! Hubby is being pretty good - we bumped into each other earlier as I was on my way to get some shopping and he was off to lunch, he then sent me a text to say how glowy and sexy I look Glad he thinks that as compared to all the lovely young Thai girls he works with I'm a complete elephant right now!!

Hoping to speak to my best friend in the UK today - she had a baby 5 weeks ago and I still haven't spoken to her as feeding schedules and time zones are making it hard. Looking forward to it, just hope she manages to find 30 mins peace to call!

Right, better get on - enjoy either your babies or your freedom!!

Jo

Hi everyone

Congratulations to LNI and Lucy and thanks for sharing your story it does offer hope that something will happen at some point!!

Think I might have to resort to the hot curry/sex/pineapple combo soon as no sign of my little one wanting to leave its comfy home.

Good news Dalrymps about the growth stuff hopefully has put you mind at rest.

Having a good day today been to meet a friend for coffee, went shopping at a local farmers market thing, made a big fish pie for tea and some more for the freezer.

WheresMyWaistGone · 18/10/2007 17:39

Hello All

Well, 5 days late now and LO showing no signs of making an appearance. I have so far refused an induction date, but I think that at the next mw on Wednesday, I may cave!

Today, dh drove me at speed and through all the potholes he could find, then route marched me up and down the Thames in Greenwich. He fed me curry on Tuesday, spicy pasta yesterday and is currently making chilli. I get given raspberry leaf tea at every opportunity and he's threatening me with pineapple (I WILL throw up...). I have also found out today that breast stimulation can also help to induce labour, so I will be trying that out later...!!! Oh yes and he's making sure I get lots of prostoglandins too...

Glad all is well and we now have another baby to add to the list - congratulations!

Off to look into reflexology now...!

Stefka · 18/10/2007 17:55

It's so awful being late isn't it. I am four days but it just feels so much longer. It's been 48 hours since the sweep so I guess that didn't work. I think I have tried everything now except Castor oil and pineapple. Apparently you need to eat about seven fresh pineapples for it to work so I don't think I can manage that. I'm getting quite down about the whole thing now - I really thought it would have happened by now.

Dalrymps · 18/10/2007 18:23

Hey everyone, i feel for those of you that are overdue, i'm only 2 days and already feeling very frustrated , my dh keeps asking me how i feel when he rings from work, i know he really means have i gone into labour yet, he's getting just as impatient as me... he's got 3 days off after today so says we're going to have to step the nipple tweaking up a gear cause he hates going to work an hour away wondering whether i'll go in to labour whilst he's there so wants it to happen when he's off, he's so sweet .
I thought i was doing really well cause i at a whole fresh pineapple but then also found out you have to eat at least 7! humf!
((((((((sending labour vibes to all)))))))

MrsJoJo · 19/10/2007 03:32

Good luck to all of you in the overdue club!!

Not so much fun but I hear trying out your breast pump is as good as nipple tweaking... Might look slightly absurd though (my friend tried this one and gave up after expressing some colustrum!).

I love pineapple and often eat 1/2 a pineapple per day... Don't think I could manage 7 though AND the fruit vendor who works at the end of my street would think I'd totally lost the plot (then again they already do as I waddle up and down at least once a day, even during the hottest parts of the day!).

Didn't get to speak to my friend again yesterday - timezones are a real pain. I'm hoping we manage to catch up soon otherwise we'll be working round two new babies... At least we'll be able to spend some quality time together in a few months!

I'm at the hospital again today whilst they decide how to treat my shingles. Don't know what they can do other than offer me an oral version of zovirax which is stronger than the cream. Got all the medical staff in a bit of a pickle as its quite rare in pregnancy and they don't quite know what to do.

This afternoon I'm looking at a house - we want to move in Jan/Feb and I contacted agents ages ago. Someone telephoned yesterday with what sounds like the perfect place - its so hard to find suitable places to live in central Bangkok that I have to go for a look.

Hope everyone is OK today (and that something happens for you ladies in the OD club!!)

Jo

Hi Everyone

no more babies yet then?

MrsJoJo - I feel so sorry for you with your shingles! It really is rotten luck to have that extra pain and worry. You sound like you're staying positive though - well done! I think I'd be making much more of a fuss!

Not much to report from my end (err..so to speak!)My due date is on Monday and I have a nice day of b'day prezzie shopping planned for tomorrow... No doubt that and the fact that England are in the rugby World Cup final will make LO decide it's time!

Have a good day all.

xx

Stefka · 19/10/2007 10:37

Morning all.

Well I had another night of period cramps - as if my body doesn't think I am having enough trouble sleeping right now!

Good for you for eating fruit - I have been so awful this last week. Really unhealthy. Before I was pregnant I was so good and didn't eat crap at all. Now I am in really bad habits. Need to sort myself out.

Good luck with the house hunting! I hope you find what you are looking for.

That's me five days over now

Dalrymps · 19/10/2007 10:50

Hey everyone, 3rd day overdue here, still nothing, i'm kind of hoping something will happen cause this was my original due date before it was revised at my 1st scan so in my head it's like a back up due date. sure i'll be back again later with no news though . Got quite tender boobs today, don't know if thats a sign of anything? not heard it to be a sign of imminent labour . Hope things get going for you soon stefka, you must be starting to feel really fed up, i'm sure it'll happen soon!
MrsJoJo, hope they manage to sort out your shingles soon, must be a right pain on top of everything else, i'm sure it'll at least cleared up a bit by the time the lo arrives, thats if it's not gone all toether (((((sending healing thoughts)))))
Hope everyone else is doing ok and didn't sleep too badly

MrsJoJo · 19/10/2007 10:54

Hi there

Stefka - just think, you really can't have too much longer to wait then the annoying cramps will be a distant memory!!

I'm now officially rattling like a pill bottle! Just counted up all the tablets I'm taking and it comes to 16 or more per day...

  1. Pregnancy multi-vit x 1
  2. Omega 3 supplement x 1
  3. Magnesium to help calcium absorbtion x 2
  4. Raspberry leaf tea tablets x 6
  5. Indigestion tablets x 2-4
  6. Oral Zovirex x 4

Yep, doctors decided to blast the shingles with drugs. So typical as I've only taken one paracetemol (but lots of supplements) since I've been pregnant.

Someone asked me if shingles is dangerous for the baby - if it was I'm sure the doctors would insist on getting me in for an induction or even a c-section. I'm not too concerned because stress is the worst thing I can do right now, guess living in Bangkok makes me take a buddhist view on some things - what will be will be and nothing I can do will change it.

Saw two houses... Both were lovely but I really like one. Its bigger than our current place, cheaper AND closer to DH's office. Going to try and get him to see it soon even though we don't want to move until Jan or Feb (agent says this isn't a problem, we can sign a contract now and move in/start paying rent etc when it suits us).

Right, now I've got to finish the final draft of my birth plan in simplified English to take to the hospital tomorrow. Been working on it for ages - now decided on two versions, one for the native English speakers, one for the non-native speakers!!

Hi everyone

4th day overdue for me sounds like all us overduers are pretty fed up now I had some period type pain last night really thought it might go somewhere and baby was moving around loads yesterday but this morning nothing ggrrrrrrrr. Fingers crossed that one of us gets going today. I am going to try going for a walk later and a hot curry tonight I think. Can't face 7 pineapples though .

Colly maybe your right about the rugby tomorrow might set us all off!

MrsJoJo house hunting sounds successful that's good news I'm sure doctors don't think shingles is a problem or they would have said.

OP posts:
Stefka · 19/10/2007 12:41

That is what I have been getting everynight this week Kittiwake - it's so annoying when you wake up in the morning and nothing has happened isn't it.

I just had the most awful leg cramp. I thought I was going to have to call my husband home from work it was so painful and I couldn't get it to stop. I feel a bit queasy now

Kittiwake · 19/10/2007 14:23

Stefka it is soooo frustrating agreed. Have just come back from my walk also feeling queasy but that's because I just ate 4 mini bounty bars

I had loads if leg cramps mid preganancy but haven't had one for a while thank goodness - they are surprisingly painful though.

Have arranged to go over to PIL's tomorrow for lunch need to have some plans for weekend as otherwise this waiting for something to happen is just getting too all consuming it's hard to relax though isn't it?

OP posts:
Stefka · 19/10/2007 16:42

4 bounty bars - that's excellent- well done!

Now I want some chocolate.

I watched the OC reruns on E4 then went for a walk. Another day with no action - sigh.

I might book cinema tickets for tomorrow - see if sods law will bring the baby on!

primigravida · 19/10/2007 16:45

Good idea, Stefka. We made a reservation for dinner tonight at a very nice restaurant (it's my birthday today) and, of course, I was up most of the night last night with period like pain and intermittent contractions which have continued today so I'm doped up on co-codamol and am wondering whether this is another false alarm or if maybe we shouldn't go out tonight. Grrrr...

Dalrymps · 19/10/2007 17:49

Happy Birthday Primi!, sod law you want to go for a nice meal and are getting pains, i'm actually strangely envious though, i'd do anything for a contraction or two . Doesn't look like anythings happening for me today, not much period type pains at all, just generally starting to feel too big and clumbersome despite actually having quite a small bump, my ribs are killing me!
Just been to argos with dh to get a new landline phone cause ours died, got it home to find it had already been used and one of the handsets wasn't working so he's had to take them back to swap them
Anyway he's back now so i'm off to set it up

Stefka · 19/10/2007 19:14

Happy birthday primi! I say go for that meal - you won't get the chance again for a long time.

That's annoying about the phone - still at least it's easily sorted.

I think my DH might go out tomorrow night. He might as well as bugger all seems to be happening here with me.

Dalrymps · 19/10/2007 20:00

Yeah phone sorted now . My dh doesn't go out really, there's only 2 nightclubs here and they are both rubbish, he's being really good actually, even if he has a drink on an evening he won't have more than 1 in case he has to drive me to the hospital an hour away , he's such a sweety. Having said that, he might as well get drunk every night cause it feels like this lo is never gonna come!
