Hi this thread is for any first timers or anyone really who wants to chat about their imminent arrival and general lack of idea of what to expect!

I realise that there is already an October thread but there seems to be quite a few people who have come a bit late to join in the discussion on there. Hope this doesn't offend anyone

WheresMyWaistGone · 15/10/2007 22:02

CONGRATULATIONS MissB!!! Well done and 8 hours is good - I rekon if you were in labour before then but didn't know, you should still count it as 8 hours...!

Stefka - I may have a sweep at the end of the week if nothing has happened by then, so please let me know what it was like!

I hope everyone sleeps better tonight - I'm so tired that I really think I ought to! Seeing the Obs Consultant tomorrow morning, but the Cardic Consultant was happy with my heart rate tests, so finger the Obs guy will be too...Will report back tomorrow afternoon!

Nighty night.

Dalrymps · 16/10/2007 08:54

Wow, well done MissB! if i get through my labour on only gas and air and pethedine i'll be really over the moon, you sound like you did really well
I'm so envious that you get to cuddle your little miracle, hope i get to cuddle mine soon.
It's my due date today, had quite a lot of stomach and back ache yesterday evening and through the night and thought something might happen but it seems to have worn off again now , don't really expect it to happen today as there's only something like a 5% chance... hope it happens real soon though!
Hope everyone else is doing ok today, guess if nothing happens today i'll be joining WMWG, Kittiwake and Stefka in the overdue club, hope at least one of you guys pops soon, i feel impatient already so can't imagine how you're all feeling.
Anyway have a nice day everyone, chat soon

MrsJoJo · 16/10/2007 09:32

Congrats Miss B!! Can't wait to join you in the mummy club...

I'm still feeling OK - many of the so called symptoms for shingles are the same as the general late pregnancy niggles... Tiredness, backache - apart from the nasty rash which feels a little bruised I'd say nothing's wrong with me.... I have a high pain threshold (so high I let them scrape a sample of my rash yesterday with a scaple without wincing - my mum can't believe that part)and am otherwise healthy so can't quite believe I'm supposedly ill. I've not even had a cold in the past year so have no idea where this has come from.

Met with my doula and stand-in birth partner this morning to go through my birthplan. I have a strong feeling it will be my friend standing in for the doula so we're hoping s/he doesn't decide to arrive Saturday which is the big party we've been planning. We're planning a pre-party pampering session - manicures, pedicures & blowdrys. I may be big and unable to even get my party shoes on but I'm going to make an effort as it will be the last chance I have to get glammed up for a while!

Now, got lots of bits to do - may pop on again later as DH is working late again tonight.

Jo

Morning Ladies,

Congratulations MissBumpy! I'm so jealous that you have your LO

I managed to sleep through the night with only one loo stop last night - feeling very proud of myself!

MrsJoJo - your party sounds fab. I'm trying to plan what I can do for my 30th which is on 27th Oct. I'm hoping I'll have popped by then and will have plenty to keep me occupied but can't bring myself to let the big 3-0 go unacknowledged!

xx

Stefka · 16/10/2007 09:55

Morning all.

I struggled to sleep last night - hip pain again. Then woke up at three with bad period cramps that once again seem to have gone no where.

I see the midwife this afternoon so I will let you know how I get on.

Kittiwake · 16/10/2007 11:04

Hi all

Massive congratulations Miss B fantastic news and welcome to the world Rosa . Sounds like you did so well especially as it was back to back. Such lovely news gives me hope that my little one might apear at some point!!!!! Still nothing happening here. grrrrrr.

Saw midwife yesterday and they will do a sweep next Monday if nothing has happened by then. Let us know how your goes Stefka if you do have one.

Dalrymps Hope something happens for you today. I had such a wieird day on my due date yesterday even though I knew it wasn't at all likely to happen I guess I was really dissapointed it didn't. I think it's becasue we have been waiting 9 months for this date and then it goes and nothing happens!!! feel much better today getting on with some stuff instead of moping around

Congratulations MissBumpy on the safe arrival of your little Rosa (what a lovely name)!

Kittiwake - I know how you feel, even though my due date isn't until Saturday, I feel stuck in limbo. Glad to hear your getting on with stuff. I should do the same...

Stefka - good luck with the midwife this afternooon. That hip pain is really nasty - I've been getting it lately too.

Collywobbles - what's your secret for getting through the night with only one loo stop? I'm envious.

MrsJoJo - hope you manage to shake off your shingles soon and that the party goes well on Sat night.

Hope everyone has a good day and that the storks make deliveries to everyone in the overdue club tonight.

Dalrymps · 16/10/2007 12:33

Hey everyone, went back to bed after getting up to see dh off this morning, i was just trying to drag myself out of bed when one of the midwifes started knocking on the door! she was going to call me about the baby being small after my last scan if the consultant had any sugestions eg extra monitoring etc, i assumed there was no further info cause she never called, i'd been getting calls from an unknown/witheald number but just ignored them cause i thought they were just sales calls or something, anyway she said she had to call round cause she wasn't allowed to leave me answerphone messages due to patient confidentiality... She was the last person i expected to see at the door and i looked like a proper tramp cause i'd just rolled out of bed and had hidious slippers on and panda eyes! .
Anyway she said the consultant had said he did want to discuss my last growth scan so I was to see his registrar tomorrow morning before my 2nd growth scan and then once i've had that scan in the afternoon we can discuss it again and 'make a plan', she said the consultant wasn't overly worried but wanted to see me anyway... So me and dh have to go over there twice tomorrow, I know it's their job to look after me and the baby but I still feel like they are over reacting a bit, they keep saying the baby is just a little small and perfectly healthy and there's nothing to worry about but then they are coming to my house, re-scanning me, getting me to see the registrar and trying to 'make a plan', all this running around is just stressing me out and making me worry more about something that doesn't seem like such a big problem??? I really don't like the idea of making a plan, I don't know what that means? how can you plan the labour? I'm worried that they're gonna want to monitor him all the way through my labour which means I won't be able to move around as much as I want. Oh well I suppose i'll just have to stop worrying and see what they say tomorrow, will let you know!

WheresMyWaistGone · 16/10/2007 13:24

Afternoon all

Dalrymps - do try not to worry. With all this stuff over my heart rate, we took the view that if they were really that worried, they would have been doing stuff sooner and I think that's the case with you. What will be will be and whatever they do, it will be in yours and the baby's best interests. Do make your thoughts known about everything, but in the end, they know what they're doing. Be strong - it'll all be over soon!

Well, I went to the hospital earlier and saw the doctor who was lovely. Everyone is happy with all the heart stuff and there's nothing to worry about...phew! And, hot news...she also gave me a sweep.

For those of you wondering and waiting for one...it's not a comfy procedure...she was very definite with everything - I guess it's better than trying to be gentle, bizarrely. My cervix is still quite far back, but accessible, which I guess made it a bit more uncomfortable than if it was well forward. But it was over quickly. If you can, make sure you have DH/P to hold your hand.

50% of women go into labour within 2/3 days of having a sweep...and you can have up to 3...so fingers crossed...

I want cake...and we have run out...I don't think we even have any chocolate in the house...

Stefka · 16/10/2007 13:28

I got caught in my jammies looking a state the other day by the postie. Sod it - we're nine months pregnant. If you can't be a slob then, then when can you be?!

I hope they won't want to monitor you too much for not reason. If the baby is healthy then I don't see why they should give you too much hassle.

Did the sweep hurt WMWG? I am getting a bit nervous!

WheresMyWaistGone · 16/10/2007 13:42

Hi Stefka

Well...it did hurt a bit...ok - quite a lot, but then I guess, should we really expect it not to...?! I think the position of your cervix will affect the pain - the further forward and therefore accessible it is, the less painful it will be.

But as I said, it really is over quickly. The doctor also said it can be more painful than actual labour! In a bizarre way, I can imagine that too. During labour, you're stretching slowly and gradually, and are likely to, again bizarrely, be more relaxed and ready for the pain. But having a few fingers shoved inside you when you don't know what to expect and are not relaxed is bound to hurt.

Sorry if that was a bit graphic and if you didn't really want to know all that...!

Let me know how you get on!

missbumpy · 16/10/2007 13:51

Thanks everyone and good luck

Stefka · 16/10/2007 15:36

That's me back from the midwife. Everything seems fine. I had the sweep and I didn't find it that bad. It wasn't comfortable and certainly your dignity goes out the window but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

She said I was starting to thin out and that I was 2cm dilated. She booked me for an induction next Wednesday. I just hope that the sweep moves things along.

WheresMyWaistGone · 16/10/2007 19:27

Sounds like you're further on than me then Stefka. She didn't mention anything about being dilated at all, though things are softening...

I have had loads of BH this - hoping that's a positive sign of progress...! Have you had the same Stefka?

Very excited about the new series of Spooks starting tonight...oh how exciting is my life?!

Stefka · 16/10/2007 19:42

Yeah lots of BH and tummy pains like period cramps. It is nice to know that they are at least doing something!

I liked the first serious of spooks - I had to stop watching it after the main guys gf was blown up in that house. I am far to sensitive and hate anything where people loose a partner! Crazy I know.

I will be watching the bringing up baby programme at 9.

Dalrymps · 16/10/2007 20:48

Hey stefka, glad your sweep went ok, bet your glad it's done, here's hoping it moves things along a bit!
well, i'm off to watch bringing up baby, wonder what will hapen this week?
Catch ya all later

Stefka · 17/10/2007 08:38

Morning everyone - how did you all sleep?

I had a bad night - didn't sleep until three. My back was bad although it is an old problem rather than pregnancy related. It doesn't help that I can't sleep on my tummy or back though.

Anyone else wake up feeling disappointed in the morning that nothing has happened during the night?

WheresMyWaistGone · 17/10/2007 08:42

Well Stefka - you should have kept watching - they didn't get blown up at all...the bomb failed! Much excitement last night - we recently got Freeview, so we watched the second episode on BBC3 after the first one on BBC1!!!

How was Bringing up Baby everyone? I have managed to watch about 10 minutes of the last couple but have lost patience so turned over!

Still lots of BH overnight and lack of sleep from hip pain, but nothing more substantial. Off to the mw this morning. DH has gone to work but is worried they'll sweep me again in his absence. But I said I thought that was highly unlikely as I only had one yesterday and it takes 2-3 days to have an effect I think. Will just take it all as it comes - I think DH and my Mum are more impatient than me!

Have a good day all!

Stefka · 17/10/2007 09:00

lol WMWG - that's so typical of me. I am a total coward! It is a really good series - maybe I will start to watch it again.

Bringing up baby was alright. It was about getting your social life back. The scary nanny couple had parties as their baby now sleeps 7-7. The Dr Spock lady put her baby in it's own room which was harder for her than the baby and their was a weird section with the continium concept people where they let toddlers play with knifes for some reason. It was quite odd. You didn't miss much to be honest.

That's great that you get to see the midwife again today. I don't get to seem mine until next Tuesday. I don't think she will sweep you again - like you say it doesn't make much sense if you only just had it done. Did your midwife say how long it is meant to take before it works if it is going to?

Collywobbles · 17/10/2007 10:01

Morning All - hope everyone had a good night's sleep.

I watched that Bringing Up Baby too last night...not sure I like the 70's thing of having sex with the baby in the bed with you...all a bit weird!

I made the mistake of reading through one of the other threads on Mumsnet about first time labours - put the fear of God into me! I spent the rest of the night in a panic having decided that I'd changed my mind about the whole thing.

I had a good night's sleep again though (this time only 2 loo stops!) and the sun is shining this morning so I feel a bit better...

Stefka - sorry to hear about your bad back. You've probably already tried all the tricks, but are you sleeping with a pillow between your legs? I found it really helped! Then there's the old heated wheat bag trick. LOL about you stopping watching Spooks cos you thought they got blown up!

WMWG - your hip pain sounds nasty too - just what you need on top of the normal sleep probs associated with the final stage of pregnancy! I agree, I wouldn't have thought they'd give you another sweep today if you only had one yesterday...

MrsJoJo - hope the shingles are on the mend - and that you found some cake!

Have a lovely day everyone. xx

Kittiwake · 17/10/2007 10:44

Hi all

Colly - I didn't watch BUP last night as watched Spooks instead sounds a bit bizzare to be honest, I watched the others. I know what you mean about reading threads sometimes I think I know too much about all this and I would be better of going into it a bit more niave!

Stefka - I didn't get to sleep 'til the early hours either not sure why really, felt tired but just couldn't drop off. I can't wait to sleep on my back again though. Also woke thinking that's another night gone. Maybe it will happen for us today though!

Another quiet day here today but my DH is going to take me out for lunch to cheer me up bless him and the sun is shining so can't be too bad. I am usually a pretty patient person but this waiting is pretty tough. Like WMWG though I think my mum and MIL are worse than me. DH and I are in stiches with the spurious reasons they are finding to phone up at the moment - as if we wouldn't tell them if something was happening!

OP posts:
WheresMyWaistGone · 17/10/2007 11:58

Hello

No - you were all right - next sweep a week today. I think it takes 2-3 days to work if it's going to. However, big news is I was 2/5 engaged yesterday...and 3/5 today - hurrah! Also, she said that the BH will be helping to soften and dilate things...almost like early labour...

So here I am with the rasberry leaf tea (and cake hurrah!)

I found the pillow between the knees trick only worked in earlier pregnancy and does nothing to help now

BUB sounds odd and I'm glad I didn't watch it - I just seem to have no patience with it! I think everyone has to find their own style, be it routine or not. Personally, I quite like bits of Gina Ford's book, but I can't see us following her wholesale. Having said that, a friend did follow her religiously with both of theirs, and certainly the first slept midnight-7am from about 6 weeks...!

My Mum is really relaxed about it all, just excited as it's the first grandchild and she's the last of her friends to have one and feels left out I think! And I'd better call her to tell her about the mw appointment, so have a nice lunch all!

xx

Stefka · 17/10/2007 11:59

I know what you mean about people contacting you Kitti! My friend calls me to let me have a good moan which is sweet but other people contact me with daft questions like 'have you had the baby yet?'. Um yeah I have had it...as if I wouldn't tell them!!

I can't wait to be rid of this indigestion. I am fed up of feeling hungry, eating and then feeling sick and getting heart burn.

WheresMyWaistGone · 17/10/2007 12:06

Yes - what's with the indigestion still? Thought that was early pregnancy? The nights are still the worst and sometimes I wake up about to be sick with it . Actually - that's a point - nearly out of Gaviscon, so better go to the chemist pronto!

I think I'm lucky - it's just the in laws asking if I've had it yet (twats! they think they're being funny...) and everyone else just calls for a chat and to see how I'm feeling - very supportive really.

primigravida · 17/10/2007 17:20

What is up with the indigestion, indeed - have you got a prescription from your midwife? That way you can get it for free. I'm getting through it like nobody's business at the moment.

Hope everyone has a good sleep tonight!
