Hi this thread is for any first timers or anyone really who wants to chat about their imminent arrival and general lack of idea of what to expect!

I realise that there is already an October thread but there seems to be quite a few people who have come a bit late to join in the discussion on there. Hope this doesn't offend anyone

Congratulations Stefka ans WMWG! See you on the poast natal board. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting... not long to go now!!!

Dalrymps · 23/10/2007 22:51

hey everyone, CONGRATULATIONS WMWG, you must be thrilled! Hope you're enjoying all your cuddles with your lo and that you heal quickly.
It's been a long day for me today, went for routine monitoring of lo's heart rate and they thought it was 'ok' but there were a few 'dips' so they wanted a 2nd oppinion, this meant i had to travel an hour to wansbeck hosp for them to monitor me again so my MIL took me and my dh met us there from work. They checked again and said baby was perfectly happy! they also wanted to know why it had been suggested to induce me at 7 days overdue rather than the 2 weeks, i explained i'd rather not be induced but this had been sugested as they thought lo was small, the consultant had a look at the scan report and said baby was quite a good size and that if i wasn't happy being induced on fri it would be fine to treat me as normal and let me wait until mon instead, i was happy and said i'd rather do this and give myself a chance to go into labour naturally if no probs with lo. They offered me a membrane sweep whilst i was there and i accepted, midwife said cervix was posterior (at the back) but 1cm dialated so at least thats something! Here's hoping it works! So i'm back in bed now and knackered from all the travelling so going to sleep. Hope everyone else is ok. catch ya soon

MrsJoJo · 24/10/2007 12:23

More congrats!! Primi & WMWG - hope you're enjoying life as new mummies.

I feel I'm in the home stretch now - finally, after 9 months, pregnancy has caught up with me. Been out today and going out for dinner but not bothering to walk to the end of the road to hail a cab, someone else will have to do that for me!!

Oh, and just to make things more fun - we have ANOTHER leak. This time coming through the ceiling from our neighbour - hubby is going to be so annoyed when he gets home (in about 10 mins).

Must dash!

Very quick update!

Birth was half good - managed to stay home for ages, was sore but coped. Arrived at hospital fully dilated and the midwifes couldn't believe I had managed for so long at home. They rushed me to the labour ward saying the baby was coming now. An hour later nothing had happened and the felt something was wrong. They broke my waters and discovered he was back to back. Told me not to push - no way I couldn't though. Another 2 hours of pushing - by now the pain was awful and I gave in and had some pethidine. After I had it things started to move on - they saw the head and another hour he was born. I did not tear which was great but I was gutted that I had given into the pethidine as it was something I really didn't want to have. Consequences of that were I was very doped up when he was born and the next day he was very doped up and I had probs feeding him.

So half good half bad but you get a baby at the end

Congrats to the other two boys on the block - we can start a boy band!

Good luck to everyone still waiting - thinking of you all!

Dalrymps · 24/10/2007 17:32

Hey Stefka, sounds like you did really well, especially with him being back to back ouch! if my birth goes like that i'll be happy, i just want to avoid an epidural most of all. Must be amazing now it's over and he's here. Really well done!

Collywobbles · 24/10/2007 18:17

Hi Guys

Stefka - great to hear more about your experience. You did amazingly by the sounds of it! I really want to stay at home as long as I can too - although must confess that once I'm in hospital I'll probably end up taking all the drugs they can offer! How did you know when to go in? Did you just wait until you couldn't cope anymore with the pain or was it to do with your contractions and how far apart they were?

xx

Mossy · 24/10/2007 18:27

Ladies, sorry to interrupt... if any of you are in Merseyside and thinking about breastfeeding, please click here

Stefka · 24/10/2007 18:56

I went in when I realised the car journey was going to be hard. You might want to think about how you are going to cope with the journey as I found it really sore. Contractions were 1 and half mins apart when I went in. 2 mins would probably be better.

MrsJoJo · 25/10/2007 05:04

Well done Stefka - I hope I can cope at home as long as you managed!

I've been wondering about the car journey so its good to have a practical opinion - although I'm very close to the hospital how long it takes to get there depends on Bangkok's notorious traffic... Should take 10 mins, has taken me over an hour

I had a lovely dinner last night - we were celebrating a friend's 40th... Been celebrating nearly a week now, final party (which I'm not invited to) is tomorrow night. They booked the restaurant where we held our wedding reception a few weeks back and I was really spoilt - they even moved a comfy sofa into the bar for me whilst we waited to sit down for dinner.

We had water dripping through the ceiling all night I emptied the bucket every time I got up to go to the loo! DH slept on the sofa as he's got a cold and the noise of water dripping meant he couldn't sleep in our spare room.

I'm hoping we can get things straight again soon but something tells me its not going to happen until Monday - someone else will have to deal with it if LO decides to make an appearance. If there's no one here to empty the bucket every 3-4 hours I guess our apartment will be flooded AGAIN.

Oh well, nothing I can do about it... Thinking of having my legs waxed - must be mad but its now or wait until Christmas (and don't think I can bear waiting that long!).

Hi All

MrsJoJo - poor you with your leaky roof, what a pain! How're your shingles these days? Any better? I hope so.

Stefka - thanks for the extra advice about the car journey - I'm about 10 mins away in no traffic, about 20 mins away with traffic so not too bad thank goodness!

I've got my hospital appt today - not sure exactly what's happening but am guessing they'll be checking to see if I'm progressing at all and maybe discuss sweep/induction options. I've decided to decline if they offer a sweep today - partly because I'm a big scaredy cat and partly because it's my 30th on Sat and that is the one day that I really don't want to be giving birth!

xx

Stefka · 25/10/2007 11:09

I was about 30 mins away. 10 mins should be ok.

Klaw · 25/10/2007 11:40

Stefka, just flying by to see what your birth was like. WELL DONE!!!! When you had said it half wasn't so good I had been a bit worried, am glad that you had a fairly positive experience and no stitches!!!!

I too accept diamorphine agaisnt my better judgement and regret it! It led to spinal, episiotemy and forceps....

Enjoy your new baby and look after yourself, make sure you are pampered and spoiled!

Dalrymps · 25/10/2007 11:42

Hey everyone!Poor you MissJoJo with your leaky roof, thats the last thing you need, hope it gets sorted! You feeling any better in yourself?
Good luck at your appointment today colly, you never know, they might not even offer a sweep, they didn't offer me one until 41 weeks , anyway hope it goes well. Not a lot happening for me today, 42+2 now , had some uncomfortable aching last night, felt like lo pushing down on my cervix, hope he was and that he's on his way... will have to wait and see. Catch ya all later

Stefka · 25/10/2007 11:54

Hey Klaw - thanks for looking in - I have posted more about the birth in the childbirth section as I am feeling a bit bad about it all.

Mine · 25/10/2007 15:19

Hi all...

looks like i've missed quite a bit, but i have a really good excuse....... i finally popped and gave birth to the mist beautiful boy in the world!!

He was eventually born on sunday evening after a 3 days labour. It was the most traumatic experience of my life!! But as they say you forget it all after you see their little purple faces.

I truely had a difficult time and ended up havng to have an emergency c-section in the end.

We are both absolutely fine now.... and we're home which is the best feeling ever.

Stefka / Dairybump - what happened to you guys??

Any others with news??

Collywobbles · 25/10/2007 16:56

Congratulations Mine! Although sorry to hear you had such a hard time.

Well, I'm back from my appt and it was fine! They offered a sweep but I declined so they just took blood pressure and urine. The consultant measured my bump and commented again on what a 'good sized' baby it is -'that's no 6 pounder is it?' he chuckled...eek!

I've now got an induction date of 3/11 (a week on Saturday) - just hope it happens naturally before then.

Dalrymps · 25/10/2007 20:27

Hey everyone, i meant to write that i'm 41+2 on my post earlier, not 42+2!
Mine CONGRATULATIONS, sounds like you did incredibly well and made it through what sounds like a difficult labour, bet you're so happy to be able to finally cuddle your lo .
Colly - glad your appointment went well, fingers crossed that you go in to labour before a week next sat .
Well, i've had a little bit more action today, i've had a show, well it's been coming away all day really and i'vr had a bit of tummy ache too so hopefully i'm moving in the right direction, although i am aware a show isn't a definate sign labour will start anytime soon, just have to wait and see i guess. Hope everyone else is doing ok, catch ya later

Collywobbles · 26/10/2007 09:58

Ooh - a show's an encouraging sign at least Dal! Here's hoping it means that things are getting going for you now.

I'm now hoping that it doesn't happen today or tomorrow cos of my birthday...not sure if LO's that co-operative though!

xx

Dalrymps · 26/10/2007 12:06

Hey everyone! Colly - Yeah am sure a show is what i've been having, had some more this morning, just want some contractions now, bring on the pain i say... won't be saying that when they do happen. Hope things get moving for you once you've got your birthday over with, although it doesn't seem these lo's like to stick to dates so fingers crossed . Hope everyone else is doing ok, god i'm 41+3, want to scream with frustration aaaarrrggghhh

MrsJoJo · 26/10/2007 12:51

Congrats Mine - sorry to hear you had a hard time but glad to hear he was worth it!!

Dalrymps - lets hope this is a sign of things getting started!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...

As for me - our ceiling stopped dripping last night and the guy (thankfully British so no communication problems) has promised not to use that paticular sink until a plumber comes to fix it. However, he also informed me he is having some renovation work done - starting on Monday for 2 weeks. Just what we don't need right now as it means construction noise during the day and (hopefully) dealing with the baby at night.

I was called into the hospital yesterday as an allergy rash appeared on my arms and legs - no idea what its from as I've not changed anything or eaten anything unsual. I was sent to see the allergy specialist (who was pretty useless and prescribed some medicated gel - aloe vera gel worked better. Today I had to go back about my shingles which is clearing up nicely. This doctor (a lovely dermatologist) decided I needed an anti-histamine jab to stop the itching from the allergic rash (its been so bad I've been scratching it with a bristle hair brush)- it was a pants down job LOL which I hardly felt.

The jab knocked me out - I made it to the salon to finally get my legs waxed and decided on one last manicure and pedicure... Was almost asleep before they'd finished. Made it home and slept soundly - trying to force myself to stay awake for a few hours now as I don't fancy pacing the apartment tonight.

I also saw the obstetrician - baby is almost fully engaged. Head is so far down she couldn't hardly see it. She's booked me in for a stress test next Friday if nothing happens before - I've finally had enough now, this week has been the hardest of my entire pregnancy (but its not been THAT bad .

DH is out tonight but on strict instructions to make sure he doesn't loose mobile connection. He backed out of his regular conference call last night so we had a quiet night in.

Anyway, better go - written an essay here(sorry girls, I know you're nearly all very busy right now !)

Hey everyone, just thought i'd drop in to say no news here yet, a bit of stomach ache but nothing more , hope everyone else is doing ok, off to bounce on my ball again, catch ya later

chainKLAWmassacre · 27/10/2007 00:41

Hey MrsJoJo, > tell me more about your rash please?

I had a rash in the week or so before my VBAC and put it down to a shower gel I'd bought to pamper myself.

Not one HCP thought to suggest it might be PUPPP but I've since found out about it and if fits exactly with my symptoms. Does it fit with you?

I was so embarrassed about the state of me in labour and in early post natal period !!!!

MrsJoJo · 27/10/2007 05:03

Klaw

Thanks for the advice - the rash could be this as it does sound similar but although my stretchmarks are itchy there isn't a rash or weals on my bump. I know its nothing serious as the HCPs would be asking me to consider an induction. It looks like heat rash but doesn't go when I have the air-con on.

I don't really care what I look like right now (although living in Bangkok I'm hardly wrapping up in lots of layers)- the next time I want to look OK is Christmas so there's plenty of time for this to be sorted out.

Hi Guys

well I must admit, I never expected to get to my birthday and still have no LO! Always pictured it having already given birth.

Still, as long as LO keeps quiet today then I don't mind

I had some lovely prezzies from DH and am now looking forward to the arrival of my parents, brother and inlaws for a day of being made to feel like a special birthday girl!

Jo - SO sorry about your rash - just one more nightmare for you on top of leaky roofs and shingles.... Fingers crossed it all clears up soon.

Dal - like I said on the other thread - good luck with your bouncing!

xx

chainKLAWmassacre · 27/10/2007 11:42

Well I did wonder cos you never mentioned the bump, MrsJoJo, so I kinda presumed it probably wasn't PUPPP. You may find that Calamine in Aqueous cream helps soothe the itching. Check with your medics.

Have they checked your liver function?
