Hi everyone, I thought we were close to filling our first thread so have made another one for when we need it! 💗

We're moving a couple of miles but will be at the same hospital. Will have to change gp I imagine. We've been having a declutter too. The house needs a bit of work on it so dreading that but it'll be worth it in the end I'm sure.
Got my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow (will be 17+2). Did most people get to hear the heartbeat at this appointment? What else happens there? Got my bottle ready in the bathroom to do a urine sample in the morning. The joys!

LillyLeaf · 17/02/2020 21:10

At my 16wk appointment the mw only took my blood pressure, nothing else, not even a urine sample and no listening to the heartbeat. All very boring and felt a bit pointless. I have a 20wk consultant appointment (only due to having IVF) so hopefully that's a bit more interesting.

amysara24 · 17/02/2020 21:20

@squirrelnutkins1 exactly the same - my 16 week appointment was so pointless. She took my blood pressure and only took a urine sample as the previous one showed signs of infection. In and out in about 10 minutes (after the clinic running 30 minutes behind 🙄). She said she wouldn’t try and find the heartbeat as it can still be hard to find - though some others mentioned before they did get a listen so it must depend where you are!
We were hoping to move before summer but reckon that’ll go on hold for a while now, as my contract ends in June so getting a new mortgage could be tricky!

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 17/02/2020 21:42

Ah I feel a bit disappointed by that. I've been told to take a urine sample every time I go. Hope it is a fairly quick appointment as my work only covers the appointment time not travel time so I've got to make that time back 🙄

HairsprayBabe · 17/02/2020 21:57

We heard the heartbeat, although they said it might be hard to find at this point still. I was first appointment in that day at half 8.

Also took a wee sample but they gave me the wrong tube so I had to go for a walk and do it again.

Anyone looking bump-esque yet? DH said I was starting to look a tiny bit pregnant this evening while I was sat in my undies drying my hair so I think I am definitely starting to show. Still in my normal jeans though but they are high waisted and stretchy, they are definitely getting a bit tighter not uncomfortable yet though.

Still not feeling any movements yet either

LillyLeaf · 17/02/2020 22:39

I can't wear my normal jeans anymore and actually bought some maternity jeans although they are pretty big but I don't like anything too tight across my stomach. I do have a small bump that gets bigger as the day goes on, some days it seems bigger/smaller than other days. I'm hoping to hide it until 20wks. I can wear anything at work so should be ok.

No movement either although I do have an anterior placenta so probably won't feel anything well past 20wks. I can't wait to feel something.

squirrelnutkins1 · 18/02/2020 13:57

My placenta is the same.

Had blood pressure and urine checked at the appointment. I was saying how even tho I've had scans it doesn't feel real cus I've not felt anything and I'm not showing, I just look like I've had a big dinner! Also that I'm anxious because of last time with the mc. She said the guidelines have changed so they don't check the heartbeat at 16 weeks BUT then got the machine out and did it anyway 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I recorded it 😊

HairsprayBabe · 18/02/2020 14:00

No-one said anything about my placenta at my scan I don't think it is on my notes either 🤷
I should have asked at 12 weeks
I can't believe how quickly it is going, it feels like it was only Christmas last week!

squirrelnutkins1 · 18/02/2020 17:12

They only mentioned mine at my private 16 week scan x

amysara24 · 18/02/2020 18:46

@squirrelnutkins1 aww that was lovely of her, I’m glad you got to hear the heartbeat! It’s such a reassuring little noise ❤️
I’m at an awkward in between with clothes, maternity leggings are my new best friend but I can still get away with some normal clothes (provided they waistband is stretchy!). I definitely have a bit of a tummy but if you didn’t know me it would look like a bit of chub rather than baby, DH and I notice it more because we know my body if that makes sense!
They only mentioned my placenta at my private scan too (about 17 weeks) but I’m guessing it’s something they’ll check at the NHS 20 week one too!
I can’t believe how quickly time is going! The first few weeks totally dragged and now it’s flying by!

WooMaWang · 18/02/2020 19:53

I'm at the same stage of bump, @amysara24. I think I'll feel better when it's more obvious that I'm pregnant and haven't just put on a bit of weight.

DP is really happy because he was cuddling me this morning (while I was half asleep) and he could feel the baby move for the first time. He keeps mentioning it because he's so excited about it.

amysara24 · 18/02/2020 20:04

@WooMaWang aww that’s amazing!! I bet he’s delighted. I’ve not started feeling much yet, sometimes I think I feel a flutter but nothing definite enough to say for sure!
I can’t wait to have a proper wee bump and feel movements! DH rubs a stretch mark moisturiser on my tummy every night (sweetheart) and tries to feel but nothing yet! Hopefully soon 🤞🏽

squirrelnutkins1 · 19/02/2020 08:54

It really is a great sound 💕
I'm going to get some maternity tights today. They are the only thing so far that I'm finding super uncomfortable. My normal leggings are fine for now but I'm sure I'll soon be wanting some bigger one.
Aww what a sweet hubby doing your moisturiser 😍 @amysara24
The midwife told me off a bit yesterday and said I've got to start enjoying this pregnancy and start talking to baby. I said I'd try to enjoy it but it's hard and she said don't try just enjoy 🤣 felt a bit like a naughty child but when you've had a loss you're going to be more anxious. I told DH and he was totally on her side 😆

LucyLucyT · 19/02/2020 16:09

They did urine sample, BP and Doppler at my 16 week scan. I have my own Doppler so check with that periodically, makes it feel more real but you need to know what you are listening for. Where I work there is also a portable ultrasound machine and I gave in to temptation at the weekend and had a sneak peek! Little one appeared to be sucking his or her thumb for a bit before waving it's arms about a bit 😊

I've been feeling some movements the last couple of weeks, gradually getting more obvious. At least I think that's what I'm feeling!
I'm getting very fat, worried about how much weight I'm gaining, been eating way too much, just feel hungry all the time. It's a sensitive thing for me as I do have a problem with overeating and had to lose a lot of weight to get IVF, but even with that I can't stop eating! I'm wearing two sizes bigger, bump mostly looks like how I looked at about two stone heavier, some of my colleagues say they think I'm starting to look pregnant but I'm not feeling glam at all!
Got my 20 week scan on Monday along with consultant appointment.

Slightly worried I'm getting pelvic girdle pain (aka symphysis pubis dysfunction) getting some bone type pain right inbetween my legs and it's worse on certain twisting movements, I'll ask about it on Monday as if it is, hoping I can get some physio.

Has anyone booked on to any antenatal classes yet? I need to sort something out.

HairsprayBabe · 19/02/2020 16:27

I filled in a form for my antenatal birth expectations class at my 16 week appointment, MW said it will be about 30 weeks - don't know if I will bother with NCT classes or not, likely not as it is £££ and we are peasants...

Had a bit of a funny turn today was shopping in Matalan with my friend - the one who is also pregnant, about 10 weeks. Got all hot and dizzy and blurred vision and nearly fainted, took off my coat and had some lucozade and was fine a few mins later was really embarrassing though

amysara24 · 19/02/2020 18:11

@LucyLucyT I would be sneaking a peak constantly if I could so well done on holding off so long 😂
@HairsprayBabe I hope you’re feeling ok now, that doesn’t sound pleasant! Nothing to be embarrassed about, just as long as you’re ok!
I’m almost certain I felt movements today, I’ve thought so before but not with enough certainty to say for definite, if that makes sense!
I was also asked outright today by one of the first years I teach “is it true you’re pregnant?” Which made me laugh. I’ve mentioned it to one (of the 8!) classes I teach and it’s bananas how quick word can spread!

Missdrifter · 21/02/2020 12:20

@HairsprayBabe hope you are felling better now. I noticed that my blood pressure, taken at 17 weeks, was low and I think that’s pretty common during the second trimester and I feel a bit dizzy when I get up too quickly. Hopefully it was just a one off for you and it’s certainly nothing to be embarrassed about.
Has anyone got their 20 week scan approaching? Mines next week and already feeling incredibly anxious about it xx

Ethellsmum · 22/02/2020 23:26

Mines on the 2nd March. I’m nervous as we had a high risk result on the downs screening but we had a private gender scan today. Seeing baby was ok has reassured me a little.
We are having another girl - that will be 1 boy and 4 girls. Though baby had her legs crossed so it took ages to get a proper look. Obviously I’ve been shopping straight away and now have lots of pink clothes!

Missdrifter · 23/02/2020 10:00

@Ethellsmum congratulations about having another little girl 😊! We also had high risk for DS because of my low PAPPA but my consultant did a detailed scan and I had the harmony test which came back low risk. So hoping everything will be ok. Did you have any further testing? I think the screening tests are very good but they can cause unnecessary worry.

amysara24 · 23/02/2020 11:38

@Ethellsmum aww congratulations on your little girl! 💗 I’m still convinced I’m having a girl, as is DH but everyone else has said they think it’ll be a boy. I’m quite enjoying the guessing at the minute!
I find the screening results can cause more worry sometimes, even between different NHS trusts they seem to disagree on what constitutes high or low risk. I hope everything is ok, do you have any other screening tests planned?
@Missdrifter my next scan is 10/3, so I’ll be just about 21 weeks and am looking forward to seeing the growth - hopefully anyway. I still haven’t felt much, I reckon once or twice I’ve been sure I felt baby move but nothing regular. I think once I can feel baby daily I’ll relax a bit, I’m still feeling anxious and paranoid about every little twinge (or lack of!).
I’ve definitely gone full on crazy with buying for baby, so has my mum! She’s in Northern Ireland (where I’m originally from) but I live in Scotland so I think buying little things for baby is helping her feel involved. It’s very sweet, and she has good taste so I’m not complaining about it haha!

OP posts:
Missdrifter · 23/02/2020 11:47

@amysara24 that’s really sweet of your mum, I bet she is loving it though. We have held back on buying stuff but I think once the 20 week scan is out of the way then the shopping will commence. I haven’t really felt anything either. During my private scans they said I had an anterior placenta though which can mean I might not feel movement until a bit later on because the placenta acts as a cushion between baby and my tummy!

amysara24 · 23/02/2020 11:54

@missdrifter she really is, DH and I just booked a week in Spain in October with them and baby too... don’t know if we’re brave or just stupid!
Ahh I’ve heard a few ladies say similar things, that it takes a bit longer to start feeling things if the placenta is anterior. Hopefully not too much longer though! I’m still struggling to believe we’re almost at the 20 week mark. I don’t know about you but it still seems like a dream!

OP posts:
LillyLeaf · 23/02/2020 14:07

Still another 2 weeks until my 20wk scan, I can't wait to get it over with. The weeks are starting to speed up a bit and I'm sure they'll go so much quicker after the scans are done. I still haven't bought anything yet but will probably start looking after the scan. It's going to feel so surreal buying stuff, I honestly thought I would never ever get to this point. I'm still holding back a bit but hopefully I can be excited soon.

amysara24 · 23/02/2020 14:18

@LillyLeaf our scans must be similar dates 😊 I know what you mean, hopefully you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the second half of your pregnancy post scan. Buying stuff makes it all seem so much more real, and imminent!

OP posts:
Missdrifter · 23/02/2020 14:33

@amysara24 that’s such a good idea to take them along with you. I am desperate to book our first holiday too. I can’t believe we are coming up to half way, I have my scan end of this week which just seems crazy. I’d say the second trimester has gone quicker for me. When are you planning on taking maternity?
