@amysara24 so funny how were both using reverse psychology on ourselves 🤣

LillyLeaf · 08/02/2020 15:16

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing ok. I've been absent for a while due to all the screening stress that I won't bore you with. I had a very long and detailed scan this week with a consultant and everything looked good. I have a private scan booked for tomorrow to see if the sex can be seen and to get photos for our parents that we're telling next weekend. So nervous about telling people. I really don't like a fuss made over me and my mum is very emotional and fussy. We've barely accepted ourselves that this is happening, just feels strange telling others. I'll still hold out until 20wks to tell work (if I can still hide it).

amysara24 · 08/02/2020 15:48

@LillyLeaf I hope everything is ok, sounds like you’ve had a hectic few weeks. Glad things looked good at your scan! And I hope all is well and you can see the sex well too.
We had told families & close friends, and I started showing last week so mentioned to my work. I feel so much more relaxed and reassured now - I did the dreaded social media post today. We weren’t going to at all as it isn’t really my style, but we have friends and family all over the bloody place and thought it was an easier way to get it out there to everyone in a oner!
I hope everyone who has scans this week gets on well, I feel like we’re out of the “danger zone” a bit now 🤞🏽

My husband wants a boy, he already has a 8 yr old daughter and I don't think he wants to be totally outnumbered 🤣

I honestly would prefer a girl, but I am convinced it is a boy.

amysara24 · 08/02/2020 16:46

Isn’t it so strange - we all seem to be using reverse psychology on ourselves! I’m sure we are all the same though, we might have a slight preference but will still be delighted either way 💗

Hello, can I join please? EDD 31 July, all being well will be our first baby - I had a MMC last year. My 20 week scan is not til mid March, but we had the harmony test done privately so know we’re expecting a boy 💙

HairsprayBabe · 08/02/2020 19:36

Hi @HelloViroids congratulations on your boy!

So sorry to hear about your previous MMC Flowers

How have you found the first trimester? Hopefully a bit better than I have Envy(not envy)

Mialain · 08/02/2020 19:44

@amysara24 the baby pics are so adorable, i read that baby at 16 weeks is the size of a banana. Thats so huge already!!

I really want a girl also, my list of baby girl names is super long, and the boys one is short, also saving lots of girl things on my wish list. I did a medical scan this week and could have sworn i saw a little willy 😂 so this brought doubts now. I also only told very close family and best friends, i think having gone through 2 & half years of infertility has brought slight anxiety, we had IVF scheduled this February, so i feel super grateful to have got so lucky, however i am a bucket full of worries at the minute.

Mialain · 08/02/2020 19:53

@HelloViroids so sorry about ur mc, Congratulations on your boy x

amysara24 · 08/02/2020 20:02

@HelloViroids welcome & congratulations 🥳 sorry to hear about your MC, but huge congrats on your boy! I hope everything goes well in the next few weeks.
@Mialain thank you! I know I can’t believe how quickly the bean turns into a baby!! It’s so strange how we all get ideas what we’re having. Both my mum and SIL have said boy after seeing those scan pics but who knows!

@HairsprayBabe not much really! She listened to the heartbeat, took my BP and pulse and dipped my urine. She also made my next few appointments. I was in and out within 15 mins. Next appointment with midwife is at 24 weeks I think.

Ethellsmum · 08/02/2020 20:22

We’ve been for a look round Mamas & Papas today then called in TK Maxx and I got a few baby toys. I’ve cautiously started getting a few bits, nothing major yet though I’ve seen a Moses basket I want so may get that.

HairsprayBabe · 08/02/2020 21:17

I got my travel system - bought it second hand off a lady my mum works with so I know the car seat is safe. She had it for her grandchildren so it really hasn't been used much and just sat in the loft for the last couple of years.

It is an older model M&P Pilko Pramette but at the time it got decent reviews - I only paid £50 so if I hate I can replace it for a bit more and try and sell it on again.

This baby was a big surprise and we are buying a house this year so I am saving as much as possible.

I also have all my newborn and 0-3 wardrobe sorted, I have only bought sleep suits, vests, hats, a few leggings/shorts and a couple of jackets/cardigans all in unisex.

I have:
20 newborn vests (various sleeve lengths)
10 newborn sleep suits (with feet)
3 newborn rompers
3 newborn
2 hats
20 0-3 vests (various sleeve lengths)
12 0-3 sleep suits (with feet)
3 0-3 shorts
6 0-3 leggings
3 pairs of baby tights
1 newborn jacket
2 newborn cardis
1 0-3 jacket
4 0-3 cardis
6 muslins

All second hand in eBay and Facebook bundles, and a few charity shop finds, some freebies some paid for.

Have spent a total of £34

Some really good quality brands too, John Lewis, JoJo maman Bebe, next Aiden and Anaïs...

Got my eye on a few pram blankets on eBay at the moment

Not bothering with "outfits" as I can guarantee we will be given loads

Ethellsmum · 08/02/2020 22:37

@HairsprayBabe I had a pilko with my first 2, it’s fab. I have a bit of of pushchair addiction and must have had well over 20, that was one of my faves.

WolfInSlutsClothing · 09/02/2020 09:19

I'm going to attempt to get away with not buying a buggy, ds will be 20 months when this baby is born, so we're going to buy some wraps and a carrier and then when ds gets closer to 2, get a buggy board. Praying it works because we have 2 buggies already and I really don't want to buy a double, seems such a waste.

HairsprayBabe · 09/02/2020 10:19

@WolfInSlutsClothing
They are so expensive I think that sounds sensible. I am 18mnths older than my sister, my mum and dad did it, no buggy board or double buggy, just the big pram and an umbrella stroller one of the travel ones I mostly walked I think or my sister was carried... They didn't have a sling either.

I remember going to the weigh clinic when my sister was newborn we cut through a park to get there, I just walked it, couldn't have been any other way I don't think!

Thrilled to hear the Pilko is good - I have read mainly good reviews but some people hate it Confused it is hard to know what will work best for us! I have downloaded the instruction manual, don't know when I am going to attempt practicing swapping it and collapsing it 🤣

On top of still feeling really sick I am constantly starving the last three or so days. TMI I have been really windy as well 🙃

WolfInSlutsClothing · 09/02/2020 19:45

HairsprayBabe that makes me feel a lot better, thank you. Either way, I'm not buying a double buggy. We'll have to make it work, the two that we have here are perfect, it would be a complete waste of money considering ds' age.

I'm convinced I'm having a girl, only because I got really bad morning sickness this time and I didn't get it at all in my last pregnancy with ds. I really don't mind what we have though, a boy and a girl would be nice, but another boy would be lovely considering the age gap. 20 week scan is the beginning of March so I'm looking forward to finding out 😁

HairsprayBabe · 09/02/2020 20:21

A few ladies on my FB who are a couple weeks further along than us have just put up gender announcements 4 ladies all boys.... Don't know if it is an omen 🤣

Have been thinking about names this weekend with DH problem is our surname is strange, rhymes with Bees and is only one syllable, starts with a D. So not much sounds right with it.
I think we have firm front runners now though, I found boy name much harder than girl name!

amysara24 · 09/02/2020 21:12

@hairspraybabe I know how you feel - DH has given be a horrible long surname that all the names I like sound stupid with 🤦🏽‍♀️😂
Midwife phoned yesterday and my next appointment is Tuesday so not far off 😁
DH and I still feel like we’re having a girl, but literally everyone who has seen the scan pics from yesterday has said they’re getting boy vibes 🤷🏽‍♀️

My appt is Weds, not actually met my specific midwife yet as she was off sick at my booking appointment.

I need to book in my extra thyroid blood tests for week after next, to be honest I had nearly forgotten about them.

LittleMrsMama · 10/02/2020 16:19

Hi mamas to be!

I used to post a fair bit on the old thread but stopped a few weeks ago when we got a high NT at our 12 week scan. It was a surprise to us and the drs as on paper we are very low risk due to age, weight, lifestyle (no smoking or drinking) etc.

It's been a worrying few weeks and still lots of tests to do to rule out various things but feeling more up for reading through your posts and trying to stay positive and get excited! It'll take me a while but will spend an hour having a look through tonight.

Hope it's okay for me to come back after so long!

Mialain · 10/02/2020 17:32

@LittleMrsMama so sorry to hear that, what is the NT? Is that to do with the Down's syndrome screening? I opted out of the screening, so I'm not sure how it works. Hope your feeling better, sending lots of hugs.

LittleMrsMama · 10/02/2020 17:42

Thanks @mialan! It's basically the fluid behind the babies neck and ours had about 3 times more fluid than the average baby. There's a few things a high NT is associated with. Mainly chromosomal defects (Downs Syndrome and others that are screened on the harmony tests and other screening), infection, fetal heart problems, and other physical abnormality. Equally though everything could be fine which is what we're trying to tell ourselves.

I never really understood why people opt out of screening until now. Sometimes not knowing something could be wrong is better, especially when these things are often a 'risk' rather than 100% guaranteed until more invasive tests are done. Sadly we couldn't have avoided finding out about the NT as it's a standard part of the 12 week scan - I'm sure yours was fine unless they told you otherwise :)

How're you feeling? How far along are you?

Mialain · 10/02/2020 18:18

@LittleMrsMama that does sound very stressful, hopefully with the support of your partner u can get through this, and like you said nothing is 100% until further tests.

I am feeling good, i saw my consultant for the first time today, because of my Ehlers danlos ive been having a lot of extra pain, so she reffered me to physiotherapy as well as my cervix to be scanned every two weeks until the 24th week. Apparently im at risk of premature labour, and a shortened cervix. I was so so happy to see her today as she is originally from UCLH and that hospital is a pioneer in the country for EDS, so im totally relieved to have her as my doctor. Apart from that im doing good and taking it super easy, work have accommodated me brilliantly, and im not complaining as husband is doing all the cleaning and cooking.

How are you doing?

amysara24 · 10/02/2020 18:20

@LittleMrsMama it’s good to have you back! Sorry to hear about the NR result and the stress you’ve been through. Like you’ve said, it is a “risk” rather than a guarantee so everything could be totally normal. Either way I’m sure things will work out. Have you opted for any further testing, like an amnio?
When we went for the 12 week scan we did have the choice whether or not we wanted the NT measurement done, we actually had to sign a thing to say we consented to it, so I think you can still opt out of it.
The normal ranges vary so much too it’s hard to know. I hope you’re feeling better about things now, and hopefully the midwife / doctors are able to give you whatever information you need or want!
