Congratulations @LucyLucyT glad your little boy has arrived safely and hopefully you will recover quickly from the c section.

Since having my daughter last Tuesday I have struggled with latching because baby has high palet and my nipples are quite flat. Baby was getting very stressed not being able to latch on straight away and midwife suggest nipple shields, I started on them today and can honestly say that have made all of the difference. I am also pumping when I can and topping up when baby is still hungry. X

joannew4 · 22/07/2020 09:31

My little man arrived with a bit of drama at 2:28 on Tuesday morning weighing 7lb 11oz and I couldn't be more in love. Home now and waiting for his big brother to come home from his grandparents and meet little James.

I had been brought in for induction Sunday evening, no effect with pessary, waters broken and synto started monday evening. All was going well until he developed decelerations with every contraction and wasn't getting a chance to recover between. Like you @LucyLucyT they had put off epidural for monitoring ctg purposes and were consenting me for a section because they wanted baby out ASAP and I was only 5cm but I never got that far. In the middle of trying to sign consent form he suddenly decided to arrive dramatically with only 1 push. Went from 5cm to fully dilated and baby born in 2 minutes which I'm still a bit shellshocked about. Worth it all now for the snuggles though!

amysara24 · 22/07/2020 13:04

@joannew4 congratulations!! What an ordeal - I’m glad he arrived safely in the end (and quickly maybe isn’t a bad thing!). Glad you’re feeling well, and love his name (it’s my DH name 😊).
@Missdrifter the nursery midwife here at hospital told me about the little chicco nipple former things, apparently they’re worth trying so I’ve ordered them and they’re due to arrive at home today. They weren’t too expensive and I’ll try anything as my nipples are quite flat too. I’ve been expressing and popping him onto my nipple when I’m done and my nipple is pulled out a bit if that makes sense and it seems to help.
Has anyone else had issues with majorly swollen calf’s and feet? Mine are ridiculous and feel so tight and uncomfortable 😣
Just waiting on discharge being sorted now then home after a long 5 days! Can’t wait to get home but I’m quite nervous about being solely responsible for such a small human 💗

Congratulations @joannew4 !!

What a dramatic boy haha glad you are enjoying the snuggles ❤️

Nothing to report here - due date tomorrow, but I gauretee baby won't be here for another week at least 😂

LucyLucyT · 22/07/2020 20:59

Wow @joannew4 that's quite a birth story there! Your little boy was clearly not in the mood for the sunroof exit!

@amysara24 my feet are still quite swollen, my legs are a bit better today than they were. The problem I have is my little lady has decided to cluster feed what seems to be 24/7 and I'm best in a chair to feed her and my feet swell with this, I try to elevate them when I can.

I'm struggling with the lack of sleep already, she allowed me all of three hours last night!

Ethellsmum · 22/07/2020 22:54

Congratulations on the new arrivals ❤️
My baby is 5 days old today. She has a tongue tie which has made bf painful! I’ve started using nipple shields and they help so much.
She fed for hours and hours tonight which is so difficult when I’ve got other children needing my attention etc.
We’ve been for her 5 day check today and she’s lost 5% of her birth weight so no big concerns. My maternity support assistant was lovely when I had a sobbing fit on her lol.

LucyLucyT · 25/07/2020 12:15

How is everyone getting on?
My little lady is still cluster feeding but mostly morning to lunch. In general feeding 2-3 hourly overnight so I guess I'm pretty lucky on that front!

Been suffering baby blues last couple of days and finding it very easy to get tearful. Think I'm coming to terms with my new role in life.

WeeScottishWife · 25/07/2020 17:44

Still waiting, and feeling rather impatient! Abdomen has felt delicate & tight for most of the day today though, so I'm crossing my fingers that might turn into proper contractions soon.

Ethellsmum · 25/07/2020 20:03

@LucyLucyT baby blues are here too and I’m struggling with mum guilt that I’m irritable and not giving the kids enough time.
I’m also feeling really emotional that my pregnancy has ended - which is silly when I have my little baby in my arms.
Ive always struggled for the first two weeks or so, it’s just a case of riding it out but doesn’t make it any easier.

Do we have a postnatal group yet?

Would love to hear how all the other July babies are doing.

squirrelnutkins1 · 26/07/2020 22:26

Congrats all! It's my due date today, nothing to report tho!

amysara24 · 27/07/2020 14:39

@WeeScottishWife @squirrelnutkins1 @HairsprayBabe it won’t be long! Thinking of you all and hopefully your little ones make an arrival soon!
Little one is 1 week old today - I have no idea where those days have gone!! I’ve been experiencing horrible nausea after feeding which has been tough, I’ve faltered a few times and thought of giving up but then given myself a wee shake and remembered why I’m doing it! Though I think I’m going to need an awful lot of practice at feeding - I’m producing a lot of milk and as soon as I whip my bra off it’s leaking everywhere. Can’t imagine me being one of these graceful mums with a coverup feeding in a coffee shop!! I’m hoping with practice it’ll get easier. The joys!
I’m definitely up for a post-natal group, it would be good to keep in touch and have others at similar stages of development to check in with!

Still no baby here!

Midwife is going to offer me a stretch and sweep today, will likely go for it. They are going to try any book me for induction as well but I am not going to agree to one at the moment.

Baby is still moving loads and I am still comfortable so I don't see any reason to have one at this point.

Still not moved house either 😬

amysara24 · 29/07/2020 17:12

@HairsprayBabe I hope it went well today - how many weeks are you now? I can completely understand you not wanting an induction and don’t blame you. In hindsight I keep wondering if I had said no, would my labour have progressed naturally and been natural rather than EMCS, who knows. You know your baby, and like you say if they’re happy in there then there’s no need 💕
I hope you get your move sorted, you must be cutting it fine now 😂 definitely very brave taking it on at this time!

I declined being booked for induction yesterday midwife was absolutely fine about it, I did go for a VE I'm 2cm dilated, soft cervix but baby is only 4/5ths engaged and I have 2cms of effacement to go.

Let her do a sweep as every thing was looking reasonably favourable, not painful or even uncomfortable at all.

Woke up at 4am with two strong and uncomfortable contractions but fell back asleep. Lost my plug this morning.

We might have a moving day of the 6th of August now 😬
Finally!!

HairsprayBabe · 30/07/2020 09:18

@amysara24 I'm 41wks today

amysara24 · 30/07/2020 12:54

@HairsprayBabe I’m glad it went well, the sweep might be enough to get things going! It sounds like there’s some sort of progress already which is good.
Good you got a date! I’m amazed at how chilled you are about the move with a baby coming 😂
I hope everything goes smoothly for you should the time come - I did read most mums go into labour within 24-48 hours of a sweep of its successful 🤞🏽💗

squirrelnutkins1 · 30/07/2020 18:57

I had a sweep today and feel a bit crampy. Booked in for wed for induction if no joy before then. Eek x

HairsprayBabe · 30/07/2020 20:26

Gotta be calm - no point in stressing the baby will arrive on its own schedule and the house move will be stressful but at least I will have my arms too full of baby to be lifting boxes 😂

HairsprayBabe · 31/07/2020 09:12

Thought we might have been getting something last night, had strong, reasonably regular, uncomfortable but manageable contractions for a few hours before bed time - laid down to get some rest, fell asleep and they totally disappeared...

Shame as it is going to be 33C here today and I am not going to enjoy the weather that's for sure 🥵

amysara24 · 31/07/2020 10:00

@HairsprayBabe it sounds like something’s happening, maybe today will be the day and you’ll always remember giving birth on an absolute scorcher!! Either way I hope you manage ok in the heat labour or not - I’ve got mummy anxiety about a baby in the heat today too!
@squirrelnutkins1 fingers crossed it all goes well, and that something happens before Wednesday! 🤞🏽

Hope there are some exciting updates incoming soon.

How are people getting on? My little lady is still fairly insistent with feeding, she seems to have one or two spells each day where she wants to feed feed feed. She's quite grunty sometimes and squiggles in her cot when she's obviously trying to go to toilet so wondering if she has some reflux. It's hard to know as everything you read says each individual thing is normal but I just wonder if she is a bit uncomfortable at times.
She's a noisy breather as well, but apparently that's all normal too!

Ethellsmum · 05/08/2020 16:47

We are still a bit all over with feeding. She is 19 days old today and still not back to birth weight so having to give formula along with breast feeding and also pumping to top up the breast feeds! It all feels a bit chaotic.
HV is confident she will be back to birth weight next week.

amysara24 · 07/08/2020 12:08

I hope everyone is doing well, and those who were still patiently waiting have had smooth deliveries and are enjoying the first few days & weeks 💙
We’re slowly getting there with feeding. The shields really help, but they’re a bit of a pain needing to always have one ready! The HV weighed him again on Wednesday at 16 days and he was up exactly a pound from last Wednesday which was reassuring. It’s so hard to know if they’re getting enough! Our feeds are moving from being 10mins to being 20-30mins but at a more leisurely pace, through the night we’re feeding about every 3.5-4 hours which I'm finding manageable so long may that last!
@LucyLucyT our wee man can be noisy when he’s feeding too, almost like he’s gasping for air! I know what you mean when you say it’s hard to know, I worry about every single little thing! He’s started spitting up a little bit after a feed just in the past few days and I’m even worried about that, though I know it’s totally normal to expect that!
@Ethellsmum serious kudos to you for keeping going with feeding even though it’s been tough 💗 hopefully your hv is right and next time they weigh her she will be back up in weight! As long as she’s fed and healthy it doesn’t matter how she gets her food 💕
I’ve been doing a lot of reading on La Leche League and the Breastfeeding Network websites, there is so much there and advice on pretty much every single problem imaginable!

Our baby girl arrived yesterday via emergency c section, it was pretty terrifying but so in love 😍
