Hi all

Just thought I would get this set up so that we had somewhere to go at the end. Will link to it in the old thread. Can’t believe we reached the limit so soon!!!

Jennieelm as I understand it the heartbeat is never guaranteed anyway at that time ? But what you would hopefully see on the ultrasound could give reassurance?

I'm just about to turn 6 weeks and toying with a private scan too but thinking of waiting till week 9, partly cos my dp is going to be away till then.

Realladymarmalade · 04/01/2020 23:22

I meant to add to my last post,I really don't think I'd enjoy alcohol free stuff/low alc although I do like shloer.

LoloFuentes · 04/01/2020 23:55

The alcohol free stuff just don’t taste right anyway. Like you said we old birds need to look after ourselves more. I’ve kind of forgot what to expect coz my son is 15 now. So its been a very long time ago. 😁

Dollywilde · 04/01/2020 23:58

I’m relatively relaxed about “alcohol free”. Not caning the stuff but bearing in mind a can of 0.5% beer contains about the same amount of alcohol as a ripe banana I won’t worry too much if I have one or two. Though to be fair they’re pretty rubbish to my tastebuds - I’ve only been having them if I’m at the pub and I can’t stomach another orange juice and lemonade!

I drank a whole bottle of 0.05% Prosecco on NYE and worried until I worked out that that counted as 0.03 of a unit Smile

Early scan today at 8+1 and all looked fine. Saw the heartbeat - totally amazing.

DH reckons baby looks like Darth Vader though...

LoloFuentes · 05/01/2020 00:33

Haha Darth Vader? How has he worked that one out.

Macbless · 05/01/2020 12:11

I could so do with some Brie too! I thought originally you could eat it if it was pasteurised but then read again and realised not. I have friends that ate pasteurised goats cheese and drank small amounts during pregnancy and all was fine. But until I get past 12 weeks I'm staying off them and will see how I feel at that stage.
Hope the scan goes well today @Jojo19834
I'm 10 weeks today... finally double figures! Feels like it has taken so long to get here.
My nausea isn't too bad and I've not vomited but I definitely know it's there if I've not eaten for a while! Just feel like I'm constantly eating.

Jojo19834 · 05/01/2020 13:04

All went well and saw a very wiggly baby with a good heartbeat, such a relief as just had no idea what may have been going on in then. My symptoms have generally eased as well so was a little panicky but all was looking good and baby like :-)

NamiSwan · 05/01/2020 13:08

@Macbless I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and like you feel like it's taken an age to get here! My nausea has definitely eased off today, I'm hoping it's the beginning of it tailing off but expect my body is giving me a break and it'll return will full force tomorrow.

Apparently brie/camembert is ok if baked enough to melt all the way through as this kills off the harmful bacteria. I had a bit of brie at the weekend which was baked on a tart and was very much cooked all the way through. Not something I will do regularly though.

Booked my 12 week scan appointment, it's not till I'm 13 weeks though, so in 3 weeks time. I can't wait! DH is very relaxed about everything but I can't help but worry about MMC as I know a few people who have had them so until I see the baby for myself I can't relax.

Girlinglasses · 05/01/2020 13:08

Yay so happy for you @Jojo19834 !!

@Macbless you can eat cooked brie! My sister made some brie and cranberry parcels over Christmas that took about 10 mins to throw together using filo patty and they were divine!

Jojo19834 · 05/01/2020 13:10

@Macbless thanks for the well wishes. I’m similar to you re not eating then making me feel nauseous so eating little and often. Morning is the worst as can’t get much brekkie in before full but then need to snack several times before lunch!

Re Brie, I’m looking forward to next Christmas and eating all the cheese I want!

@Realladymarmalade you seem like you know already but I would definitely wait as long as you can, as I was IVF I knew my dates exactly but with natural if your dates are out you may not see enough if you go too early. It’s worth going just pick your time :-) I went 6+5 and you just get to see it’s viable with a heartbeat, by 9+5 I could see a lot more baby for money! I saw a baby wiggling with head and arms and a good heartbeat so was worth it for me. Appreciate 9 weeks is a long wait when you are 6 weeks so go with what will make you happy!

Hi everyone, can I join in? I'm 37 and this is my first pregnancy.

Went for an early scan last week thinking I was 7+5 ish (from my last LMP) but I have longer than average cycles and ovulated quite late so was actually only dated as 6+1....EDD 20/08/2020. I know early scans aren't always recommended but I'm in a LDR at the minute and really wanted OH to be at the first scan. Plus it really helped me to see our jelly bean and hear a strong heartbeat.

This first trimester feels like it's taking forever and being less far gone than I thought hasn't helped. I've had awful nausea and am so tired all the time.

Nellie3 · 05/01/2020 15:43

Congratulations everyone who's had a scan and anyone new 😚

Is anyone else having such a range of how bad symptoms are. A couple of days ago I posted on here complaining about being sick and the last couple of days I've felt almost no nausea. I've also had some cramps which feel a bit like PMS. It's just exhausting analysing every feeling all the time, after experiencing a MMC before. I've got my scan date now which is not til 28th Jan. I'll be 13 weeks then and it seems like aaages away.

Sorry to rant, the first trimester feels like a lonely time and I know you will feel sympathy! Xx

KirstieC · 05/01/2020 16:05

I'm 9 weeks 4 days today, due 5 August! This is my first so new to everything.

Have an appointment on Thursday (9th) with the midwife at local hospital. Do people normally take their partners or not?

I've had a booking appointment with the midwife at my GP just after Christmas who has sent a referral for my first scan but when I called them on Friday they hadn't received it 😩 but I came home to a letter from my local hospital for another midwife appointment.

Has anyone had an out of area referral before and did it lead to delays? My GP is based in Leeds but I live in Wakefield so the midwife at my booking appointment wasn't able to do blood tests.

alexTP · 05/01/2020 17:24

@Girlinglasses @Jojo19834

Sorry took a break from the chat as was feeling awful.. really terrible nausea and awful heart burn..

Re US/UK differences in diet- for instance Sushi is generally a no in the US ( very reluctant yes) and NHS is more or less okay as long as frozen. I got prescribed Omeprazole by my GP and in the US its class C for pregnancy (expectant mother's are told to stick to class A and B). I ate sushi yday :) was all good, but with medication, sticking to more stringent of the two.

Wishing everyone a good week ahead.. another 3-5 weeks between us before this nausea gets better.. can't wait to get to the other side.. for nausea and other reasons Wink

berrynice16 · 05/01/2020 17:45

Hello everyone! Bit late to the board I know, only found out I was pregnant last Monday (the stress of christmas and 2 pre.school aged DC I didnt think about the fact I had missed my period) had a scan on Friday was lovely to see little bean heartbeat flickering away and all spot on with dates, am due 19th August excited and scared at the same time - also not enjoying the very sore boobs or constant nausea/sickness

LoloFuentes · 05/01/2020 19:20

I don’t understand how it all works sometimes. I was told to leave my name at reception and when midwife comes( this Tuesday ) she will contact me for a first appointment. I’m 6 weeks gone with no appointment or contact with midwife yet. 😞

Jojo19834 · 05/01/2020 21:01

@LoloFuentes I didn’t hear from mine until about 6 weeks, my booking in is after 10 weeks. Give them a chase this week, may be the Christmas madness that has slowed things down

@berrynice16 congratulations and hope it’s a happy surprise!

I seem to have lost my nausea in last day or so which means I am starting to eat what I like again, if it wasn’t for today’s scan I would be worrying slightly tho! There’s an end people, I may not have reached it but it feels good even if it is a break

@Jojo19834 I’ll ring up on Tuesday if no one rings me. How many weeks gone are you by the way?

RandomWord · 05/01/2020 22:24

@Jojo19834 I seem to be similar to you. Nausea has died down yesterday and today at about 8 and a half weeks.
I am hoping everything is still okay and just trying to enjoy not feeling sick Smile

Kbr1986 · 06/01/2020 06:24

@Girlinglasses I am keen to do yoga again prenatal. However the lady I do it with had said not to come before 14 weeks as it is the time you feel most nauseous and also your body is doing an awful lot of baby making and developing so you feel the most tired. I do agree there! I'm a bit of an exercise buff and the last 3 weeks have remained challenging to say the least. I'm starting back with my PT this week and will see what we end up doing but I reckon it'll be more like resistance type stuff. I also do a regular circuits class but have taken it easy in the last few sessions and not let my heart rate climb too high even though I've sweated!

Macbless · 06/01/2020 09:25

I am going back to my yoga class tonight at 10weeks. The teacher said I should be fine as I'd been going for over a year to the same class. Hope that is the case! I also went back to my PT on Friday and he's adapted the work for being PG too. I did feel a bit nervous about doing it but I don't want to lose the little bit of fitness I have!

MaisieMolly · 06/01/2020 09:29

Does anyone know when you can start pregnancy yoga or Pilates? Is it 12 weeks? I’d feel a bit silly going alongside all the ladies with big bumps at this stage!

PurpleRain25 · 06/01/2020 11:46

Hi everyone Smile I think I commented on this thread way at the beginning but have just been reading up the past few pages!

Has anyone had any experience of having their booking appointment and 12 week scan at the same time?

I'm currently 9 weeks and 5 days - I rang my GP around 5 weeks and I had an appointment with the community midwife shortly after this. It was literally a 5-10 minute appointment, just took a few basic details off me, mentioned about folic acid etc. and said she would refer me on to the maternity unit (bit of a waste of an appointment if you ask me, but I had no idea what to expect!)

Shortly after I got a letter saying I had been booked in for an appointment on the 17th Jan when I'll be 11 weeks and 2 days, which could last a couple of hours (so assuming its the booking apt), and includes a scan.

Anyone else have this or is it a bit odd? For the record I am in Northern Ireland :)

Amanda3188 · 06/01/2020 14:01

@PurpleRain25 I'm from NI too and that's pretty much what happened with me only my doctor told me to self refer and I haven't had a letter yet, that was 4 weeks ago. Currently 9 +1weeks but I was told it could all be on the same appointment.

PurpleRain25 · 06/01/2020 14:03

@Amanda3188 Ah I see! I just always saw everyone talking about the booking appointment and waiting on the 12 week scan appointment after this. Suppose that's nearly better having it all in 1 day!
