Hi all

Just thought I would get this set up so that we had somewhere to go at the end. Will link to it in the old thread. Can’t believe we reached the limit so soon!!!

I am 7weeks +1day today, going for my first scan on Tuesday... silly question, can you already see the sack this early and hear the heart beat?

Nausea and acid reflux are terrible for me.. really uncomfortable eating most foods.. yogurt and cold milkshakes are fine though..

Having coffee aversion not due to smell but more fear of acidity.

Ah lastly - breast are super sore Shock first trimester is hard .. not looking forward to working 11/12 hours a day, feeling this sick :(

Girlinglasses · 04/01/2020 19:01

Hi @alexTP and congrats! It is certainly possible that you might see the fetal pole and heart beat at this stage, but be aware that there's no guarantee, especially if you are not quite as far along as you thought due to late ovulation, fertilised egg taking a bit longer than usual to implant etc so try not to worry too much if you don't- they will be able to give you a good indication of whether things are looking okay either way. Good luck! ❤️

Girlinglasses · 04/01/2020 19:02

Also suddenly dying for a milkshake 😱

Jojo19834 · 04/01/2020 19:06

Hi @alexTP you should be able to see the sack and see a heartbeat. You won’t be able to hear the heartbeat as they don’t tend to do this so early on. If you are not 100% on dates please be aware they may measure you slightly different. Just useful to know as some people are shocked and distressed by this so just helps if you are prepared! I have my scan tomorrow, excited but also nervous as you just don’t know what is going on. I have no reason to suspect anything but neither did poor Frazzlerock.

Joining now but have followed the thread for a while. Had an early scan today as suspected ectopic due to v.low initial HCG but it's in the right place and the heart was beating. 6 weeks exactly after our 8th IVF/FET attempt. 3 previous BFP all ended with empty gestational sacs so this is progress. Will be DC#3 but with 15 yr age gap, first DC with current DH though! Also older as due a few days before I turn 43.

Frazzle - so so sorry for you. I was on a previous thread with you about 15 months ago when we both exited early. It's really shit.

Hi all,

I’m totally new to mumsnet but it’s been reassuring reading some of the messages. I found out I was pregnant on Christmas Eve. On Boxing Day I started to get really sick and have been in hospital since yesterday. Seems I have hyperemesis gravidarum which is horrendous. I’m currently 7 weeks and got a scan yesterday to confirm everything was okay which it seems to be for now. These threads have been a great help to know I’m not the only one suffering with nausea and sickness. Katy x

Jojo19834 · 04/01/2020 19:53

Welcome @DragonNight. I’m also IVF although this is my first child and I am single mother by choice. My first attempt was unsuccessful but this frostie stuck. Hope this one is your lucky one!

@Frazzlerock I’m so so sorry for your loss. I can’t begin to understand how you feel. Soft hugs xxx

alexTP · 04/01/2020 20:47

@Jojo19834 @Girlinglasses thank you! First pregnancy so feel like deer in headlights :-)

I am reading this amazing book by Emily Oester - "expecting better", can't recommend it enough. Also, have a week by week guide "the day by day pregnancy guide" - both books are helping a lot, especially if like me your family is in a different continent.

FWIW- Nausea is a good thing, Infact a very good thing indicating the baby is safe and our bodies are going through hormonal changes. As much as I hate it, at-least it indicates the baby is alright - and Incase that's an old wife's tale, still helps to keep me calm.

One more thing I noticed as I search through various food/s suitability in pregnancy, NHS is a lot more lenient than the US guide. Not sure if everyone is following NHS or a mix of the two ?

Happy weekend all x

Jojo19834 · 04/01/2020 21:06

@alexTP first here too so learning as I go, will look up that book. Re food, you hear most people saying that NHS is strict now, ‘back in the day we would have eaten all this stuff’ is what I keep getting told! Each to their own and if we know more now we should take that into account. If you want something you can weigh that decision up for yourself but good to know what we can’t have as a starter. In what way is the US one stricter?

Girlinglasses · 04/01/2020 21:10

Interesting- I've read mixed reviews about "expecting better", I was sceptical about it as the writer isn't an OB or medical professional - I did know that nausea is definitely not a bad sign though, even though it's grim!!! (Although lack of nausea isn't a bad thing either, depends on how the mother reacts to HCG!)

That's interesting about differences between NHS and US recommendations- what kinds of things are different? I've only really looked at NHS and HSE (ireland) recommendations and they are fairly similar, although I know that in general advice really varies! I was told by a yoga teacher in my 6th week that the beginners yoga class was fine and she'd let me know if there were any moves I shouldn't do and then the following week a different teacher told me that I should be doing any exercise for 12 weeks and to leave the class 😂😂

One of my close friends is an OB so if I'm ever unsure I just ask her!

Girlinglasses · 04/01/2020 21:11

*shouldn't

LoloFuentes · 04/01/2020 22:11

Hi all. What’s your take on drinking non alcoholic wine or cider. Especially if it says less than 0.5%alcohol?

jennielm · 04/01/2020 22:13

I am so stuck at the moment. I will be 7 weeks exactly on Monday and I know that I should be able to see a heartbeat if I pay to go private for a scan and I am desperate to but DH wants me to wait. I am terrified that they won’t find a heartbeat on Thursday and I’d rather know sooner than later if it’s bad news. The wait is killing me Sad

heroineinahalfshell · 04/01/2020 22:41

@LoloFuentes I've been drinking the odd 0% beer, but not the ones that are 0.5%. Tbh having the zero beers and the odd glass of tonic with cucumber has been a good placebo and I've not missed drinking at all (although the constant low-level nausea might also be a contributing factor!)

KTSW6588 · 04/01/2020 22:42

@alexTP I was reading that the food regulations here are far stricter than in the US which is why it may look like it’s more lenient here for suitable foods, but it may just be that the foods have been quality assured in a more rigorous way x

LoloFuentes · 04/01/2020 22:52

@heroineinahalfshell I bought myself a non alcoholic gin & tonic (0.5%) I couldnt even drink any of it so I think I’ll stick to water.

@KTSW6588 I always try and look at UK sites as much as possible as I feel they relate to me more and also to avoid confusion.

Realladymarmalade · 04/01/2020 23:17

I tried a glass of prosecco on new years eve , didn't enjoy it and felt like an asshole.
I've had a small glass of wine or maybe two a week in previous pregnancies,
but now that I'm an old bird I really want to boost chances of a good outcome.
I did have a large glass of wine the last time I started labour (really slow labour though) just thought sod it. 🤣

Realladymarmalade · 04/01/2020 23:18

I could also REALLY go some brie. sigh
