Hi all

Not much to report really, nausea has gone now so I'm feeling a lot better, still feel tired but feeling more like my normal self.

Sorry to read about Columboswife

We've been trying to think of names but haven't got anything definite, we are struggling with finding a boys one we both like. Not sure if we 're going to find out the sex at 20 weeks, we did last time and part of me would love to know but at the moment I'm thinking I'd rather keep it a surprise. Has anyone else decided if they're going to find out?

Hayleyandbaby · 11/11/2007 12:40

Hi Indigoblue- we're definately finding out but that's really because we're short of money and it would be nice to be able to buy one way or the other. We always said we would find out too.

Hope every1 is well x

mumofk · 11/11/2007 19:38

Hi, Jackblackroady, I'm having acupuncture and I think it has made a difference with my morning sickness. I was going every week (NHS midwife only allowed to do it one day a week) and now only go 3 weekly. I guess it probably was a bit of naturally easing off at 13 weeks, but I also think its made a huge difference with my tiredness. She does ear-seeds (little sort of grains of sand stuck on the right place in your ear so you can press when it really gets you) and that gave me something constructive to do when I was trying to avoid puking.
I think its worth a try! I was taking cyclizine occasionally- it was highly recommended by the obstetricians I talk to, one gave me a script. Tip- if they write pregnancy related even if you haven't got your free prescription form, the hospital pharmacy won't necessrily charge you- i was well chuffed!
Not everyone will be ready for it but remember ranitidine for heartburn- you DON'T have to get through 1/2-1 bottle of gaviscon a day, and if you ask your GP should prescribe it (again, got a scipt last time from our consultant who deals with high risk/precious pregnancies- this is one area I trust this drs opinion completely). I did have to insist my gp give it to me, becuase he doesn't have the same experience as the dr who initially gave it to me. You can also buy it over the counter (for your husband of course!) but they would be reluctant to sell it for you because they have to cover their backs.
good luck to everyone!
mumof k

JackBlackRoady · 12/11/2007 07:30

Thank you mumofk! I have taken the cyclizine again, had to yesterday, poor DS was leading the Rememerance Parade for Scouts and I couldn't get out of the bathroom in the morning! But it makes me so dozey, i could have slept all afternoon!
I am going to ring the acupuncture place near me this morning.
Thanks for the tip about Ranitidine - good to know if the heartburn gets dreadful there is an option.
Glad your sickness and tiredness is easing. Pleased to hear your sickness is easing too IndigoBlue.

DH wants to find out the sex at 20 weeks, I don't want to, I want the surprise! But I might give in, as you said Hayley, we can then plan!
JBR xxxxx

Mitchell81 · 12/11/2007 09:19

Well I now haven't been sick in over a week, so it seems that MS must be fading and I am sat here thinking that I haven't eaten this morning, so I must be getting better. Yippee.
Definetley want to find out the sex, but NHS won't tell you in our area, so have to pay for it privately. Have DD and DS so would like to know what colour clothes I can get rid of. Also nice to know.

sweetbean · 12/11/2007 09:29

Sweetbean, I agree. I also can think of girls name, but no idea for boys.

blobsmummy · 12/11/2007 10:33

mumofk - I'm already getting through the Gaviscon like it's going out of fashion, so thanks for the advice.

I'm pretty sure that ! felt baby move a tiny bit (I'm now 15 weeks) - nice at this stage - but I'll be moaning about how sore it is in a few weeks!

We're near enough sorted on names, down to the final 2 for both boys and girls. I'm def going to find out what the sex is - I'll be so upset if baby has it's legs crossed and they can't see! Still, I'm booked in for a 22 week scan, a 28 week scan and a 36 week scan so I'll have a few opportunities to discover and get it confirmed! (They're scanning me lots because they think the baby may not put on any weight, just because I'm a very slight person - however I had all of this with frist pregnancy and produced a wonderfully healthy and normal weight baby, so I'm not concerned this time around. They can't seem to accept that some people are perfectly healthy without falling into the 'norm' categories - it's just the way God made me!)

My only major news is that I've moved up knicker size from a size 8 to a size 12!

Mrsmope · 12/11/2007 11:26

Hi

I'm due to have my second baby at the end of May. Can't believe I am pregnant as I feel really well, unlike first time around. Am trying to keep it a secret until Christmas day but so far have had to refuse about four invites out, so as not to let the cat out the basket.

Am not showing yet but think it's only a matter of time before someone asks me if I've had a boob job.

AussieSim · 12/11/2007 11:32

I had my NTS 12 weeks scan today. It is so reassuring to see bub waving and hiccuping (sp?). They even did a bit of 4D as well, which is just incredible - though def not pretty! My result came in at 1:1897 which apparently is about as good as it gets for my age and so they recommended against the CVS and said if I was still concerned I could have the amnio at 15weeks which I will discuss with my OB tomorrow. They looked at the nose as well as the heart and blood flow as well, which has come along way since DS2 just 3 years ago. I am carrying around a little pile of photos to bore friends and family. We got a DVD but will wait till we have the 19week scan to finalise it for viewing. Time feels like it is flying now I am past 12weeks at last Must tell my boys ...

cece · 12/11/2007 14:51

AussieSim

good news about your scan

goodcatholicgirl · 12/11/2007 19:55

Hi all,
I am sorry I am such an infrequent poster. Life is just so darn busy!!! dd is 18 mths old this weekend, super cute as ever. I am now 15 weeks +3. Feeling ok, thought nausea had gone, and it's def much better than it was, but still off food a bit and little appetite, which is MOST unlike me!! Don't even fancy chocolate in the evening !!

My bf had a mc at the weekend. V sad, as we were looking forward to having babes the same age, well, she was due end of June but you know what I mean. Also went to see 2 school friends at the weekend, one of whom desperate for second baby but her dh will not budge on the matter (they agreed to one when they got married) and the other who has just got married, desperate for baby but not sure if she can have kids on account of her not having a period for 18 mths since coming off the pill. What with all that and my other friend who miscarried twins in August, I feel so damn guilty being pregnant at the mo!!! Just want to hide my (ever growing) bump away!!

On a brighter note, I have a 'date' with DH tomorrow night (as we call it, as it's so infrequent!). Going out for dinner then to see 'stardust' at cinema. I haven't seen him fo r4 nights as I was at my Mum's at weekend and he has been on nights since, so I can't wait!!!!

Hope you are all well. Anyone else who is 15 weeks, did you know that baby is the size of an orange now??!!!

LOL xxx

pregnabrain · 12/11/2007 21:55

Hello all

Am adding my apologies to goodCatholicgirl's. I was away on holiday for a week and then had no internet access for three weeks, so Mumsnet has been off limits for a while. Am trying to catch up on the thread now - can't believe how many of us there are! Is it normal?

Glad to hear that (most) are feeling less sick. I'm definitely feeling better than I did two weeks ago. Still wanting to go to bed by about 9pm (this only happens to me in pregnancy - am total night owl otherwise) and I'm SO sensitive to smells. Changing dd's pooey nappy has become the nightmare from hell.

We've got our 12 week scan on Friday. Have been quite chilled about the preganancy until now but, just in the past week or so, I've had a few scary thoughts about something being 'wrong'. I think I'm regretting telling so many people about it at this early stage. Anyone else got their scan this week?

I hope I will be able to be more active on this thread from now on - looking forward to getting to know you all.

sweetbean · 13/11/2007 08:45

Hi everyone

Just wanted to post that im so envyous of all of you having your 12wk scans at 12 weeks. I will be 14wks when i get my 12 week sacn and it feels like a life time to wait !!!!!!!!!!!
With my DD i had one when i was 12 wks so im not sure is the baby will look alot bigger this time round or if we will be able to tell the sex? does anyone know what week we can tell the sex of a baby ????

sweetbean · 13/11/2007 08:47

Aussiesim

Great news about the sacn you and i are due a day apart and it really feel great to get passed the 12 week mark

mumofk · 13/11/2007 09:28

Sweetbean, determining sex depends on what your bean is up to, how good the scanning equipment is, whether its an internal scan or not. ONCE I thought I could see boy bits at 12 weeks, but usually its 20 weeks when we can be more 'certain'(yes, we still get it wrong, even in this day and age!). I would say it depends on luck on that day if you might find out earlier. Please don't forget to ask- different trusts have different policies on telling, but if you don't ask we don't know to look for that for you! Lots of people ask me at the end when we've wiped the jelly off- I don't need to know so unless you ask I don't find out!
Good luck!
mumof k

podglet · 13/11/2007 09:33

Hi all,

Just stopping in quickly to say hi as I have a horrid sick bug and am abot to go back to bed

Congrats to all those having their 12 week scan, I am now 15 + 4 and we are "discussing" a 4d sexing scan after 24 weeks as our hospital won't tell us the sex. I would quite like one this time round to plan clothes and things but DP doesn't think it's worth it because it is going to be opposite season to DS and so will need new stuff anyway as all DS's stuff is padded winter things. Sorry, waffling now.

We have a girls name sorted but we used our favourite boys names on DS. We have used family names and would like to continue this but have come a bit unstuck as there aren't many boys in either of our families. ho hum.

dorawannabe · 13/11/2007 09:47

Okay have decided on Rose Olivia for a girl and Edward Arthur for a boy. What do you think? Can't wait to find out what we're having.
Hope everyone's doing okay.

blobsmummy · 13/11/2007 09:58

Hi,

We like Imogen or Freya for a girl, and I like William for a boy (I'm not even listening to DH's boy's name suggestion as it's ridiculous!). It could all change though. We would have gone for Erin for a girl, but a friend has just called hers that, so we don't want to copy. We used up the name we loved the most with DD (she's called Iona). Am a little dubious though about having 2 girls with first names beginning with 'I' - what happens when love letters start coming through the post addressed to Miss I Baldwin?! Could cause some probs in a few years!

dorawannabe · 13/11/2007 10:04

I like Freya, goes well with Iona. What beautiful names.
I know what you mean, I wanted same initial as dd (Madeleine) but decided it would probably cause problems, also couldn't find a girls m name I liked!

magicfairy · 13/11/2007 10:42

Hi everyone, not been on here for ages, DS been poorly, started work, hectic crazy life and every time, I sit down to get on mumsnet DS wakes up from his nap! As he has just done!
Just a quick line anyway to say had 12 week scan last week, everything all hunky dory, wriggling all over and even its jaw going ten to the dozen, must be a girl joked the scanner lady!! My dates were spot on, i thought they would move it back a week as they did with DS, but no due on 17th May, very exciting, but boy isnt the second pregnancy different to the first!!
Ds sounds very grumpy gotta go!

hi everyone so sory for the radio silence!

hi everyone new!

colomboswife I'm so sorry for your news and will be thinking of you.

seaturtle - totally agree about the wipes and there are always 2-4-1 offers at the supermarkets these days!

hayley - did you tell the mw about the headaches etc? it might just be that your bp is a little raised? if you have a family history or are in the least bit worried / concerned about pre eclampsia you should def get all the info you can. you can also get a doppler scan done at 20/24 weeks which will give an indication of the likelihood of getting p.e.. the headaches do need to be in a fairly specific area of the head, and not pe not normally accompanied by cramps (in any case pe only actually properly sets on at 20 weeks minimum as that is when the placenta is fully matured). the cramps in your legs might be with water on the muscles and dep tissue massage can help (had these with ds!).

also whoever said water and calcium i'm with you!!! DRINK DRINK DRINK!!! also calcium has been shown in studies to help with pre eclampsia later on so it's a double good one!

hope that's helped and not made you more concerned? main point i'm trying to make is jsut speak to your midwife / consultant / GP whenever you want - they will not think you are being stupid, believe me!

podglet - i would do the same thing, although we have a mountain buggy so can bump down pretty well.

talking of mountain buggy - jack black where are you as i am getting rid of this one for a reasonable offer close to £100 if poss, with lots of extras! just need to collect it from SW london.

aussiesim glad to hear your scan went well.

hope everyone else doing well, and getting over sickness generally and not too tired.

i am being an absolute cow to dh at the moment - he's jsut being so bloody righteous and perfect about everything and it's driving me mad! hormones! he's repeating his mantra of "pregnant women are MEAN" to anyone who will listen. he knows i won't now because i just don't care

pregnabrain · 13/11/2007 22:53

Love the name suggestions. Olivia's one of my favourites too.

I think we might find the sex out this time. We didn't last time, because we wanted the big Hollywood "It's a...." moment. When it came down to it we were so amazed by the fact we'd just produced a baby, we totally forgot to think about the sex for about 20 minutes! The midwife had to ask us if we actually wanted to know .

This time feels different because we're trying to explain the concept of the new baby to dd. Like you say, Mrsstresshead, it's really hard to do that when you're talking about 'it'. Mind you, she's already decided it's a boy to be called PERCY. Yikes.

sweetbean · 14/11/2007 08:31

The name we have already chosen for a girl is FREYA so its strange to hear other people love it but am totally stuck for a boys name!!

Does anyone else thing they know what there having ?? i was 90% sure that i was having a Girl first time round and i did! and with this one I'm thinking Boy.

What about everyone else ???

We could have a littel chart and see if are predictions are right.

Sweetbean - Thinks Boy - scan says??
