JackBlackRoady · 06/11/2007 11:04

Hello again everyone, how are you all feeling? I've just come back from the Drs where I was sick in his consulting room! Very embarassing but at least he then prescribed me something to take!!!

I used disposables with my son 12 years ago and feel guilty that all those nappies are still in landfill not breaking down much. However I can't see myself doing the cloth nappy thing... I'm not a great housewife...

I've been looking at prams and pushchairs as my friend who is due at the beginning of Dec gave me some ctalogues as she now has hers. I have spent ages looking, then going on to eBay and seeing how a second hand one would be cheaper! I am in love with the Bugaboo Cameleon at the moment - not in love with the price much - but thinking maybe it will be like Isabella Oliver maternity stuff - I can get it, use it and look after it and then sell it on eBay after I've done. That's a theory anyway.

blobsmummy · 06/11/2007 11:39

I've just bought a M&P Freestyler for £30 off e-bay - complete with car seat! As soon as baby can go into my umbrella fold buggy, I'll get rid of that on e-bay again - it's a wonderful form of recycling!

I've just been persuaded to join Facebook and have spent my time at work this morning thus:

90 mins Facebook
30 mins checking e-mails
30 mins e-bay
15 mins work

I'm so booooooooooooored here today!

sweetbean · 06/11/2007 12:06

Hi all

I'm feeling a bit more human today not so sick and a little less tired !! but god it makes a diffrence im almost feel like a "normal" person today its lovely !!

so glad that people are having some good scans i can't wait untill mine maybe it will all feel a bit more real after i see my littel bean on the screen !!

YellowFlower · 07/11/2007 12:38

Hiya,
I?m jealous of all these scans too ? my hospital doesn?t offer one until 20 weeks.
Lots of sympathy for all of those still with ms, I was sick again last night ? I thought I was getting past all that but I guess not. Dp helpfully suggested I may be one of the women who get ms all the way through!!
Has everyone told their families now? I finally told mine over the weekend, well I chickened out and got my sister to actually ? even though I?m nearly 30 and have been living with DP for 5 years I feel like I?m saying to them I just had sex! I have a pg friend who?s due at the start of April and still hasn?t told her parents as they?ll fuss so much, so I am feeling relieved and my parents are really excited, especially when they worked out that my LO will be in the same academic year as my sister?s twins who are 2 weeks old ? it?s a scary thought!

JackBlackRoady · 07/11/2007 14:36

Hello again all, was at the hospital seeing the consultant yesterday afternoon (i am costing the nhs a fortune!) and had another scan - this time a vaginal one! they were looking at my cervix but you could see the baby perfect! poor you YellowFlower having to wait until 20 weeks
Anyway, i have pills from the doctor for sickness (Cyclizine) but my DH thinks i shouldn't take them. They are safe in pregnancy the Dr and pharmacist said, and I suppose DH is just being protective, as it took us years to get this bean, but I am fed up with the sickness and I think I should be getting back to work. what do you all think?

Hayleyandbaby · 07/11/2007 15:58

JackBlackRoady- I'm a little suspicious when it comes to MS pills as there's such a history of them causing deformaties and such likes. My mum took them when pregnant with my sister (back in the day). My sister was fine, but it turns out a lot of babies were harmed from those tablets. However, it is 2007 so maybe that doesn't happen anymore!

Is everyone still struggling with MS? the worst of mine seems to be over touch wood.

Walkingwomb- hows ur headache? Mine has just gone today. Thank goodness.

Mitchell81 · 07/11/2007 17:37

MS can't carry on for much longer. I personally wouldn't risk taking any medication whilst pregnant, but for personal reasons. If you feel that bad and doctors say it's ok, then trust your instincts.
Hopefully we all start 'blooming' soon.
Anyone going to have a 3D scan?

walkingwomb · 07/11/2007 22:13

Hi Hayleyandbaby - thanks for asking after me The headache is still there (four days and going strong!!). It is my birthday tomorrow and i am hoping it is going to bugger off so I can be happy.

Jackblack - you poor thing I don't really know what to say about the pills. I had a crisis of conscience the other day over taking a paracetamol - then I did and it didn't help. I have resigned myself to being a christian scientist for the next six months.

bramblina · 07/11/2007 23:32

Hellooooo everyone! Still here but just bl**dy busy!

Had my scan last week, now I'm due 6 days behind my original date so will update list just now. The lady at the scan (sonographer?) said "oh what a beautiful baby!" I was delighted! It was lying perfectly still, moved its arm and legs and relieved me like, well, you would believe I guess. It was lovely.
I'm past the complete exhaustion, just very tired now, and am having awful headaches, most days, for most of the day. My Sacro illiac joint went at 38 wks last time and as I'm double jointed I kind of expect a repeat but so far I'm just getting bother from my shoulders, I have extreme laxity which with all the hormones have been made worse and didn't get to sleep till 4am yesterday morning I could have cried with the pain. Still no other complaints so I'm quite grateful.
Clothes are getting tight but still no proper bump and can't justify wearing maternity clothes so am just going to have to put up with looking podgy!
Hope everyone is fine and hoping to eventually be able to read all posts!

Chuffed · 08/11/2007 06:01

JackBlackRoady my consultant said she would prescribe me tablets and said it was a misconception that no-one has to have morning sickness nowadays . I said I didn't feel comfortable with it and told her I would put up with it...I don't think mine is as bad as yours though. I think I took a couple of paracetamol through both pregnancies and that was when I got the flu which I have now had in all three pregnancies. I am a bit like HayleyandBaby in that they prescribe stuff and then find out later it is did this which they weren't expecting.
Headaches/cramps - make sure you have plenty of calcium and water. Dehydration can make you have an 'irritable uterus' which gives crampy feelings and caused me to have contractions at 24wks with dd. Rehydrating solved it.
If they carry on and on ask for some thyroid tests as sometimes that can be effected in pregnancy and headaches are often a sign that something is going on.

Not a lot to report here, had a 2hr massage that dh gave me for my birthday in Sep today - oh it was sooooo nice. I want one every day.

asicsgirl · 08/11/2007 12:23

Hallo everyone

been trying to catch up - it's been a long time since I posted! So sorry to hear about your loss Columboswife.

JackBlack - if you have a look here, according to this NHS site the drug you've been prescribed for ms has not been associated with higher rates of birth defects. The page actually states that this is one of only 2 ms drugs that have been investigated in this way. I take this to mean that there have been properly conducted clinical trials on this drug which have shown no ill effects - as you would expect if doctors are happy to prescribe it to pg women. So IMHO it is fine to take it.

Note also that much of the time, the reason that drugs are not prescribed to pg women (or that medicines you buy over the counter say 'Consult your doctor before taking this if you are pg or bf') is that they have not been tested in this way. In other words, they just don't know about any effects in pg because no-one has done the research, so they play safe and recommend you don't take it, just in case. Anything that a doctor prescribes for you will have been tested and will be OK to take in pregnancy (as long as dr knows you are pg of course )

Hope this helps... x

JackBlackRoady · 08/11/2007 14:07

Thank you everybody, you are sooooo helpful - that page is informative Asicsgirl, and I agree with everything you have all said. I am thinking I will leave it a little while before taking the pills. I actually took one yesterday evening as I just could not be sick again, it was horrible, and it sent me straight to sleep! which was nice, but i couldn't get up this morning, yawn!

Also - Hayley, did you see the thread on feeling the baby move at less than 20 weeks? Its here:

Thank you all again for your kind words and thoughts. Speak to you all soon

AussieSim · 08/11/2007 22:22

Hi Guys

I am soo sorry for Colomboswife and for those who have ms - not much to complain about here physical illness wise - although I have picked up DS2's cold.

I have my NTS scan on Monday and have pencilled in a CVS as well. I will be 39 when DC3 is born and to be honest the MNer who posted that she was given a 1:5000 chance of Downs and then delivered a downs baby scared the hell out of me. As 'Mother Theresa' I would like to be about SN, I don't think my family and I would cope too well.

I am well bumpy and have been buying Maternity clothes as mine from few years back are looking a bit worn and dated and there is much groovier and comfortable stuff out there now.

Best wishes to everyone.

Chuffed · 09/11/2007 07:36

Oooh didn't hear that, but I had a 1: 250 chance with dd at 29 and she is normal but we felt the same way AussieSim. I think it depends on everyone's circumstances. All the best with the testing and make sure you rest up really well afterwards.

Thanks for the link asicsgirl. I think my issue will be tiredness now as I'm hoping my ms is tailing off a bit apart from when I am too tired.

AussieSim · 09/11/2007 08:01

Hi Chuffed, re the NTS there are also lots of stories similar to yours where high risk (under 1:300) are predicted only to turn out just fine, which just calls into question the accuracy of the test at all. I think the literature says 90% accurate, which is not that accurate really - imagine if the pill were only 90% - it wouldn't present a good option would it?

You seem so calm about the triplets, Chuffed. I think I would be in a mild state of hysteria constantly What is your secret?

Hayleyandbaby · 09/11/2007 08:59

JackBlackRoady- Thanks so much, I can definately feel the flutters. It also seems to be a huge baby coz I'm getting a big bump very quickly- I look about 5 months pregnant! It seems to have gone mental this week which is weird coz i've been cutting down on my food a little. Big babies r in my family and I think that must be why. It's a little scarey but I do love knowing it's doing something in there. Have you got flutters yet?

I have not been having enough water or calcium so it's good to know that that could prevent cramps!! My new mission!

Walkingwomb-happy birthday for yesterday! Hope you managed a headache free day and did something lovely.

Sounds like everyone is progressing quickly now.

Hayleyandbaby · 09/11/2007 13:35

Ooooooooo also has every1 picked their names or got good ideas yet? We've totally picked now and we're so happy with the names.

londonirish · 09/11/2007 16:25

Hi everyone, I've just come back from my first scan..I was really nervous all day waiting for this afternoon. Thank God everything is well with the baby. They have put my due date back until the 4th of May which I'm happy with as it gives me a wee bit more time! Am now 15 weeks pregnant.
My scan pictures are just plain weird...the baby kept looking out the whole time and I've now got 4 pics of its skull and eye sockets! DH is going to freak!
I'm going to go shopping tomorrow for some new clothes..everything is getting tight & uncomfortable!
Hayleyandbaby-we've started thinking of names too but I don't think we'll decide until baby is born..

Chuffed-still can't believe you're having three babies! Sooo wonderful!

Jackblack-hows the sickness? Hope you're feeling better!

xxxx

cece · 09/11/2007 16:35

Hi there eveyone. Lots happened since I last posted. Hope everyone is well.

After my scan last week I had a phone call a couple of days later to say my blood and NT tests had shown me to be high risk screening for downs syndrome.

Had a traumatic week trying to decide what to do. AussieSim interesting you have booked a CVS without a high risk screening test first. I think we have pretty much decided we aren't going to have any tests - at least not yet. May have an amnio when I am much further along, just so I know.

AussieSim · 10/11/2007 02:25

Hi Cece, re the tests I'd just rather know soon than later to give me a bit more flexibility with decision making. I've also had some friends who have had unpleasant experiences with Amnio, though not with CVS. When I went to get my bloods done for the NTS the woman thought it was best to pencil in the CVS so that if I did get a high risk result I could have it done right away and save some stress. At my age the straight age risk of DS is somehting like 1:90 and I just don't trust the accuracy of the NTS enough - not for a third at our stage of life.

cece · 10/11/2007 05:38

Hi AussieSim.

I suppose the system is different in Australia. My age risk is 1:67 before any tests, as I am older than you. The actual rsult of my Combined test (NTS and bloods and age) is 1:50 so not much difference. The actual NTS measurement was average so it is my age and blood results which have increased it slightly.

AussieSim · 10/11/2007 06:31

Sorry Cece, testing is a very personal matter. I will shut up now .

cece · 10/11/2007 06:35

hey no problem. Can completely understand why you would want to know. I just can't explain but at moment don't feel the need to 'know' and wish hadn't had screening test in first place. Everyone is different. ARC, which is a charity advising about antematal testing have a good phone line. They said some women want to know with a result of say 1:300 (and have amnio or CVS) and others with results of 1:10 don't have anymore testing.

JackBlackRoady · 10/11/2007 12:28

hi Hayley, we have discussed names a bit, i want DH to give the name to this baby as I names DS completely on my own! I can feel something in the evening, which is when i felt DS move all those years ago, its prob just things moving as things stretch, but hey, i like to enjoy the flutterings!

Hi londonirish, enjoy your weekend of no teenagers! Have just snapped at DS and feel bad, poor lad is just a typical boy and not his fault for having a smelly room! still sicking and retching, i am not taking the sickness pills, am staying still, sipping water, eating tiny amounts, sleeping and reading. hoping it will pass soon. still confused why it has gotten worse but it'll be worth it in the end!

cece, i've seen ppl on other threads say they paid for a private scan in 4d which is much more detailed and gives a better indication of possible ds, and of course it is non invasive. just a thought, anyway.

Hello everyone else, has anyone tried acupuncture for sickness? I might try it, it cant be worse than this, or worrying about the damn pills which put me to sleep anyway.
