hey everyone,
I haven't been on here for about ten days so still need to catch up, but congratulations to all!
My wee one was born on 15th August after a day or two of everything from totally natural labouring, to a full-on C-section finish. We laboured away for a day or so and got to 8cm on our own at home - I don't actually remember all of it, but it was pretty bloody hard work and DP describes it as "epic". But when we went into hospital and I got into a birthing pool, everything slowed right down. We did lots of walking around and bouncing on the ball to speed things up again (I was so tired by this time I was practically passing out, DP had to catch me when I slid of the birthing ball). Eventually had to move onto an epidural and hormone drip, and we got to 9.5cm that way, but the little one's head was quite swollen and finally, when the last half centimetre wouldn't budge, we moved on to a caesarean.
Not remotely what I expected or what I would have hoped for - but actually, it was a really interesting experience once the pain was gone! DP was with me and all the midwives, surgeons etc were brilliant. The maternity ward midwives who looked after us over the next few days were great too; I really can't bring myself to regret anything that happened. If anyone else here is headed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary then I hope you'll be just as well looked after as we were.
DS is called Adam and is feeding like a champion, sleeping reasonably well and just generally being gorgeous and lovable. I am totally besotted.
So ... I'll catch up here and then move on to the appropriate thread. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting!
