A shiny new thread for our May mum's.

A big thank you to @Shak19 for setting up the original thread, you started this group and we are all so grateful for that.

Here we go, month three in the pregnancy journey 👣

@Helensss hey I'm in the southwest too, I was told to ring the number on my notes to book at Torbay a week after my booking in (so this Wednesday). I'll be 10 and a half weeks by then, so imagine they then give you a date a couple of weeks later

Is anyone else finding it so hard to walk around with this big secret? I hate lying and find myself having to make excuses not to see people / arrange things. I dream of getting to that milestone of 12 weeks and being able to share the news

Helensss · 04/10/2019 09:19

@champooPapi oh really? I’m in Salisbury and I’m sure she said they’d send a letter in the post, I might ring up in a week if I haven’t heard anything x

Sunshine8888 · 04/10/2019 09:20

@Helensss I’m also south west. My scan date came through a few days after my booking appointment

ChampooPapi · 04/10/2019 09:23

@Helensss in Bristol they sent it in the post when I had my last so if that's what they said it'll arrive that way, it takes a while that's for sure. Mine came a week before the scan date

Interestingly my midwife told me that at my future appointments they will check the heartbeat with a fetal doppler but that in some areas they don’t do this anymore. Does anyone else know about this?

Doodlebug321 · 04/10/2019 09:45

@Wishful30 yay!!! Hope everything continues to go well for you!!!!

@Sunshine8888 fetal dopplers don't really give any indication of fetal wellbeing, other than the FH was heard & regular at that point in time. Listening for 1min gives no indication overall, there is a huge push to rely on fetal movements online as a guideline of wellbeing.

Also, attempting to auscultate FH even at 16wks can cause unnecessary distress as often it can be difficult to locate and the mother naturally worries, meaning they have to be sent in to the hospital.

There are huge differences in some local guidelines.

@Wishful30 so so pleased for you! Amazing news xx

10 weeks today here and feeling a bit nervous. No need to really as no bleeding etc but you read so much on Mumsnet that your mind starts playing with you!
Sickness has been up and down this week. Yesterday was terrible but other days I've managed to get out of bed. Wishing the next 2 weeks and 4 days away so I can have my scan and hopefully relax a little.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone xxx

Sunshine8888 · 04/10/2019 10:01

@Doodlebug321 thanks for explaining that, she said they start doing it from 16 weeks 🤷🏽‍♀️ But it is interesting that different areas take different views

Shelbustotherescue · 04/10/2019 10:04

@ChampooPapi I'm in Torbay too ! I rang the number a week after my booking in and they were able to give me a date over the phone and confirmed by letter - I'll be exactly 12 weeks

NiffleTime · 04/10/2019 10:09

@Helensss In the South East, and I had a letter with my scan date before the midwife had even rung to give me a booking in appt! I’ll be 12 weeks exactly for it.

ChampooPapi · 04/10/2019 10:29

@Shelbustotherescue that's grand, so much better then waiting for a letter that seems to never arrive. I had a great birth there with my first nearly 10 years ago though I was very lucky and no one else was in labour so ward to myself.

@Shelbustotherescue have you been round the Newton maternity unit before? I thought it was fantastic there

Shelbustotherescue · 04/10/2019 10:40

@ChampooPapi I had my last child 10 years ago too - I was planning on having him at newton but he ended up coming very abruptly at home !

This baby will be born in Torbay as I'll be under the care of the consultants

Where in Torbay are you ??

Doodlebug321 · 04/10/2019 10:40

Yesterday the nausea wasn't so bad. Today it's laughing at me saying that since I got a bit of a reprieve yesterday, I have to deal with a double dose today 🤢

Nap time I think!

ChampooPapi · 04/10/2019 10:43

Arhhh that might be too outing and I hate name hanging, but let's just say a few miles further down the railway line from Newton Abbott Smile

It'll be Newton or a home birth this time, as last two were in the hospital which wasn't the plan, though the care was absolutely brilliant both in Torbay and southmead, out with newborn within about 4 hours of birthing Smile

I’ve booked to have a early scan Sunday morning, it’s suddenly very real!

Shelbustotherescue · 04/10/2019 10:57

@ChampooPapi you are very very close to me !

KerryM1983 · 04/10/2019 11:18

@facevalue I feel your pain I really do. I just started to feel so rubbish doing them every day. You see this is what bothers me, every ivf clinic is different but is it safe to stop them at 8 weeks or not. They told me that I should now be producing enough progesterone so pessaries weren't needed.

As soon as I had my 8-week scan and everything was fine I was discharged by the ivf clinic and given a number to contact the midwives and make an appointment. Have they given you no information at all?

facevalue · 04/10/2019 11:28

@KerryM1983 they gave me a detailed report after the scan and got to see the nurse who offered to answer any questions she sorted the pessaries talked about supplements and told me to let them know the 12 week scan result so they can advise me further if needed. i don't think i'm discharged yet🙄

i did say why do i need to continue and surely i can stop but the nurse was adamant must not stop until 12 week scan 🙄 so i'm not gonna argue cos my hubby was there and he gave me the look 🤨 so i'll follow orders.

facevalue · 04/10/2019 11:32

@Wishful30 fantastic news xxx glad for you

@Hollyjeanh goodluck x keep us posted

facevalue · 04/10/2019 11:34

i get intense hunger then stuff my face then immediately feel rough and sick 😭😭😭😭... i’m so fed up ... i can't even be bothered to dress up or wear make up 😭 i'm so scruffy

mrsf1204 · 04/10/2019 11:46

Oh my goodness you guys will not believe how relieved I am... just come away from our scan and we heard a lovely strong heartbeat and saw a 10mm baby - 6mm growth in the last week! They are happy with my progress and have discharged me back to the normal midwife. Here's a little picture of our peanut with a Cornish Piskie for luck which I held the whole way through. I know things can still go wrong but this a huge relief. Now to try and enjoy this whole thing. What a whirlwind...
