Yep it's completely free. There's not a sure start grant but I think there's a pregnancy and baby grant or something. I'm not too sure as we are not low income.

Stroan · 20/07/2019 21:17

It's the best start grant here, not sure how much it is though.

I feel a little bad about taking the box when I have some stuff already but will donate what I don't need. We are going to use the box for baby to sleep in downstairs, no Moses basket!

easterbuns1 · 20/07/2019 21:19

There is the best start grant in Scotland, it's £600 for first baby and £300 for subsequent babies if you fall under the criteria for it. There's also two further payments, one for nursery age and one for starting school.

The Scottish baby box is amazing we are so lucky to have the scheme up here!

Whisky2014 · 20/07/2019 21:22

We are going to use the box for baby to sleep in downstairs, no Moses basket!
That's exactly what we are going to do too! And any duplicate stuff we will keep at my parents (like baby mat) so we don't have to humph the stuff everywhere.
And if we decide to have another child it will all be used again and if not, it will be passed on to friends/family or charity in the future

Whisky2014 · 20/07/2019 21:23

I did laugh when i took the lid off and the first thing you see is a box of condoms! :D

Whisky2014 · 20/07/2019 21:23

Oh and the box will be a good toy box in the future!

Stroan · 20/07/2019 21:29

I do have a bit of a giggle at the condoms though!

Loved the birth control chat on discharge from hospital.

Midwife "have you thought about contraception?"

Me, staring at her like she had three heads "um, well, we just had a baby?"

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/07/2019 21:39

I might practice a confused face Confused and ask "Contraception? Whats that?"

Florencenotflo · 20/07/2019 21:47

The baby box looks brilliant! I don't think they do it here, I've never heard of it or had it mentioned.

Been feeling like crap here too. My hips hurt, my back hurts. I've been feeling sick all day and have just had to dash to the loo (sorry TMI), there wasn't much warning! Had terrible Braxton hicks all day on and off too. I'm trying so hard to not moan, DH had a day off today and I feel like I put a bit of a downer on it by not wanting to do much, he just wanted a nice day out as a family. I feel like I want to just go to bed and sleep the next 4/5 weeks away.

But then I remember I have done precisely zero sorting, washing, prepping. I have no bags packed. No meals prepped. And a beautiful 3 year old that wants all my time and attention despite me having all these jobs to do. And then I feel guilty. Sorry, on a right pity party today, need to shake this mood off sharpish I think!

DH is doing what he can but he's been taking overtime shifts while it's there so we can put money away for me to have as much time off as possible.

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/07/2019 21:56

Florence how many weeks are you? I feel just like you except for the loo dashing

Whisky2014 · 20/07/2019 21:58

But then I remember I have done precisely zero sorting, washing, prepping. I have no bags packed. No meals prepped

Same. :( I hope I can do it all when I'm off on 2 weeks time.

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/07/2019 22:14

I have been off on sick / mat leave for 9 weeks and i still havent done all that Blush

Florencenotflo · 20/07/2019 22:19

34+5. When is nesting supposed to kick in! 😂

Whisky2014 · 20/07/2019 22:24

I'm also waiting florencenotflo! 34+3

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 20/07/2019 22:26

We’ve been spending the evening painting a wardrobe, building flat pack furniture and grumbling at each other - largely because it’s next to impossible to do this kind of stuff in the day with DD (27months) around. Hope others’ evenings are more restful/ relaxing. Sounds like we could all do with a spa day nice early night.

kyles101 · 20/07/2019 22:40

Been in this evening with reduced movements. Nothing much all day, and then not even a bath or a jiggle for the usual responses... obviously the second I got strapped to the monitor I was kicked. Literally the same moment. How embarrassing! Poor DH was worried. Midwife was lovely and very reassuring.

15 more days at work! Planning on washing baby clothes and packing bag once I've finished work... is that leaving things a bit late?

Stroan · 20/07/2019 22:58

@ivegotthedecaf please do that and report back!!

I did see a trashy news story recent about a couple having sex on the postnatal ward so maybe the condoms are for your hospital bag?

Glad all is ok @kyles101 always the way!

@floremcenotflo I'm not loving it just now. Serious lack of sleep, DD being a terror and really struggling to walk. I doubt any nesting will be happening here!

Florencenotflo · 20/07/2019 22:58

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri we packed Dd off to my mums for the day to move her cot bed and build beds and furniture, only to realise that half of DD's big bed hadn't been delivered 😂 so that was a waste of a day. We did get everything else done but Dd had to sleep on a mattress on the floor for a week!

Florencenotflo · 20/07/2019 22:59

@Stroan fingers crossed you get a decent nights sleep tonight! How are you doing in general though?

Megan2018 · 20/07/2019 23:07

@kyles101 it depends how much there is I guess! I’ve done 12 loads of baby related washing so far, some nappy related (they need several prewashes), the rest is clothes and bedding and fabric toys. Plus I washed 2 bin bags of plastic toys in the bath! I know there is no way I’ll get it done once baby here as the every day washing will be bad enough, so needed to start now. I’ve got just 2 left to do.

But we have been give shed loads of things that had been in store for a while. I could probably not buy a single piece of clothing for her until she’s 2 Blush

NCT leader was very insistent we packed bags by 30 weeks so did that early.

TheCraicDealer · 20/07/2019 23:18

I made a start on my hospital stuff tonight. Went and got some nappies for baby and me (the latter in the form of those oh so sexy incontinence knickers they recommend for hospital) today so thought I'd get going. Still so much stuff like nightwear and phone chargers etc which I'm still using, so it's by no means done.

Weird buying consumables like nappies and wipes and stuff now, makes it all seem more real. I was folding and packing the tiny vests into her change bag along with the other stuff for the hospital and it was a bit of a "woah" moment.

If we're blessed with no. 2 I can totally see it will be a much more "fly by the seat of your pants" scenario, because I am inherently lazy. Will probably be getting DH to stop at Tesco en route to the hospital for something or other!

IVEgottheDECAF · 21/07/2019 07:22

33+3 here

I am still waiting for the iron tablets to work their magic and give me a new lease of life Hmm My back is sore again this morning so that doesnt look good for today being productive!

I have constant washing back log all the time with us being a family of 6 already and my washing machine is never free to do a load of baby clothes Blush Really think i might need a second washing machine or a washer/dryer.

I might aim to make some lists today. Hospital bag lists and things i still need to buy.

Florencenotflo · 21/07/2019 07:30

I'd love a utility room with 2 washers and a dryer. I don't have a dryer, this time of year is fine but when the weather is crappy I'm constantly surrounded by clothes on airers and radiators. And there's only 3 of us at the moment!

I'm making DH's birthday cake this morning, could do without that really but he did ask ages ago. Plus dinner to do. Washing. General sorting. My shit cupboard (you know the cupboard we all have full of paperwork, old phone chargers and random instruction manuals) is overflowing. Every time I open it stuff falls out so I definitely need to do that today. It pisses me off every time I open the door! Then I need to get Dd our for some fresh air really! And I'd quite like to just sit on my arse eating custard creams! 😂

IVEgottheDECAF · 21/07/2019 07:33

I dont have a shit cupboard Grin

I have three large shit drawers instead Blush yes all at the overflowing stage!

We have a utility room which is where washer and dryer are, it could fit another in....

Puglover88 · 21/07/2019 08:17

That shit cupboard! 😂 I know exactly what you mean! I have that and several shit drawers!
