August 2019 4: All the scans and hopefully the end of nausea

Hi all

Welcome to the new thread. The list of names is HUGE! It might be a better idea to start a new list after 12 week scans so we have up to date due dates. It also allows those who have bad news but don't want to share it to leave quietly if they so wish.

I don't even have a scan date! Hurry up and end first trimester.

I've started bleeding again. Beginning to think this is just life for me now, random bleeds Sad

ABearandABump · 19/02/2019 21:12

Posted too soon sorry guys.

I really don't know what's causing this, it's like a watery red blood, it's not clotty and I don't have any cramps with it.

I'm 15 weeks today. Just hoping baby hangs on, nothing more worrying than blood 😭.

ScotsBaby2 · 19/02/2019 21:45

@ABearandABump sending positive thoughts. What did EPU/midwife say last time?

@ABearandABump I bled roughly every two weeks with DS2 up until 23 weeks. I remember well how stressful it was (I've had mcs as well so was always really panicked). It got easier as I got further along as I started feeling movements more regularly.

PinkLady89x · 19/02/2019 22:34

@ABearandABump I've heard a lot of stories from people who had bleeds and it was normal for them. Hope everything is okay for you.

Has anyone else had to have a glucose tolerance test? I've had a letter through saying a follow up appointment has been made for me to have this. Apparently it's a blood test with no food before and then a glucose drink, a two hour wait and then another blood test. Does everyone have to have this or is it because of one of my tests showing something dodgy? 😅 xx

Jokie · 20/02/2019 04:55

@PinkLady89x: yep, I need to have this as I have a family history of Diabetes or am considered high risk myself. Youre right that it's a completely fasted blood test, a sugar drink (that tastes extremely sweet) and then wait for 2 hrs, then another blood test.

A few tips: be prepared for afterwards:

  • get a protein snack ready (I was recommended egg sandwich) and eat after blood test
  • DRINK. You need to try and clear the sugar out your system so drink plenty of water /electrolytes in the Hours after.
  • consider taking a nap during the 2hrs if you can. For #1 test I felt so sick that I just needed to sleep it off. For #2 test, the drink spiked my blood sugars and then I just hit the ground when it stopped.
  • drink and eat later the night before (e.g. 9pm). Our clinic didn't open until 7.30 so it'd be at least 10am until I'd be able to get something to eat and drink.
  • once you've had the drink, you're not allowed water to wash it down (at least here you're not), so try and get enough saliva to wash it down or ask if you're allowed to brush your teeth.
Blueberry2018 · 20/02/2019 06:32

@Kcjoe Glad its not just me then!

@ABearandABump Fingers crossed its nothing to worry about. My friend bled all the way up to 20wks and then it just stopped xx

QueenofFox · 20/02/2019 06:37

@Fuppy and @Jokie congrats!! Welcome to the boy club!

Totally agree with pink/blue clothes. Amazing how much you get gifted though!

@ABearandABump that sounds totally rubbish. Hope EPI are able to offer you some kind of explanation, must be so worrying.

Jokie · 20/02/2019 06:48

@ABearandABump: hope that you can find an answer.
Queenoffox: thank you! It's rather a scary prospect as I'm used to girls!

Fuppy · 20/02/2019 06:53

@Jokie @QueenofFox  Yay! Can't believe I'm growing a penis!

@Kcjoe I envy you, I'm completely the opposite, I can't stop eating. It's shameful, someone is going to have to widen these doors when I get to full term Confused

Re: pink/blue I said previously how much blue stuff I have (been gifted previously) and now not worrying so much now, but I'll still be buying gender neutral myself....so no stress if any other DC's happen. I'm surprised though that there's still a lot of places where I've seen only a choice or pink/blue.

sacrecoeur0712 · 20/02/2019 06:57

@PinkLady89x my midwife said I'd have to have the glucose tolerance test as in my area they test everyone over 35. Could that be it for you?

EverythingNow · 20/02/2019 08:36

I've been told I need the GTT mainly due to bmi I think. I've never been tested in previous pregnancies.

PinkLady89x · 20/02/2019 08:40

Thank uoh@Jokie and @sacrecoeur0712 for the information. Doesn't sound much fun 🤔 I'll have to see if they can change it for Easter holidays as I don't really want to take half a day off work for something like that - my class just won't understand where I've gone 😂. I'm 29 so I don't know if maybe it's something to do with my urine sample i gave them at my booking in appointment last Saturday. Hmm, scan today and I may ask then! I'm actually sooo nervous and have been a wreck all week. I just don't know if I 'feel' pregnant anymore. I've still been quite sick over the last few days and thrown up most of what I've eaten but my stomach doesn't seem to feel as pregnant as before. I'm so scared 😱. It's at 3.30 so I have to wait all day!
In my 8 years of teaching I've never called in sick or missed a day for an appointment or anything before... I'm so worried about taking time for appointments and stuff... but I guess this is my priority now and I need to focus on that. If everything is well today 🤞🏻. I should be 13+1. All I keep thinking is everything was fine at the 8 and 10 week scan 😅

sacrecoeur0712 · 20/02/2019 08:55

@PinkLady89x good luck for your scan today - I'm sure all will be well!

keebo · 20/02/2019 09:17

@PinkLady89x I was exactly the same at 10 weeks. I woke up one day and didn't 'feel' pregnant anymore. I was utterly convinced it was over and managed to book a private scan for the next day (I'm also a teacher and kids worry when I'm not in but I now figure MY kid is more important and take time off for scans, midwife appointments as needed). All was fine in my scan and I've not had another panic attack since. 🤞 the same happens for you today. Keep us posted.

loveshinealight · 20/02/2019 09:33

@PinkLady89x - good luck today. Anything that helps ease anxiety I'd always a good thing.

I got a glucose tolerance test in my last pregnancy and will get one again. My mum is type2 diabetic. She was overweight during her pregnancies and developed it then. My BMI is in the middle of the normal range so um not worried. It's not a big deal really. I'll enjoy the 2 hours peace and quiet this time! The hospital here gave you biscuits, juice and a sandwich afterwards.

Jokie · 20/02/2019 09:57

@loveshinealight: I want to be at your hospital! I got nothing!

@PinkLady89x: good luck today!

loveshinealight · 20/02/2019 11:00

@Jokie - a wee move to Scotland is on the cards for you then 😂

ScotsBaby2 · 20/02/2019 11:33

I have a glucose test and did last time. It's standard here for everyone to get it. It happens at the 28 week midwife appointment and if results come back funny then an appointment for the full test at the hospital.

ABearandABump · 20/02/2019 16:05

Thank you for all your thoughts. Just waiting to go and speak to my GP, didn't want to ring EPU as last time I did I felt like I was worried over nothing.

If GP advises to go then I'll pop along tonight. Hoping it's just an affect of the constant UTIs I have recently.

PinkLady89x · 20/02/2019 21:53

Thanks for all the luck and wishes guys. The scan went perfectly today... I was in shock. I had really convinced myself it was going to go badly but it was perfect and completely the most amazing thing ever. The baby was wiggling around a lot and they said it must have lots of energy so getting a good supply from the placenta. Also they said the placenta was in a good position to give birth normally? Didn't even know that was a thing! I'm so pleased and can't believe that after a mmc and a chemical, we are finally getting somewhere. 13+1 weeks and due on the 27th August. Crazy to believe that I was pregnant with the chemical pregnancy and due 4th August and then this one quickly came in after that! I've got to try and relax a bit now and 'enjoy' the second trimester.
Maybe I'll book a couple of private scans to keep me going 😂
