August 2019 4: All the scans and hopefully the end of nausea

Hi all

Welcome to the new thread. The list of names is HUGE! It might be a better idea to start a new list after 12 week scans so we have up to date due dates. It also allows those who have bad news but don't want to share it to leave quietly if they so wish.

I don't even have a scan date! Hurry up and end first trimester.

@bubblegumunicorn I have a maximum of 28 weeks to wait. Move quicker time. I loved my OH telling me we had a girl last time at the birth. He had two jobs: sperm supplier and gender reveal (or sex reveal I can never remember which is "correct"). One job at the start and one at the end of my pregnancy.

@bubblegumunicorn the older my baby has got, the more unisex/boys I've bought. When she was born it was ALL pink. Now it's heavily farm and navy. We have a mixture of everything for this baby as hand me downs but still A LOT of pink and dresses.

I was going to find out what we were having, but I think it'll be worth the surprise at the end. Plus, I'll only be finding out to buy pinks and blues so that can wait till baby is here!

Fuppy · 19/02/2019 06:23

My DC1 was a boy (died in NICU) nearly everything is blue, if this baby is a girl I'm going to have to buy a lot again, but I plan to utilise most of the blue clothes by adding a blue headband with a bow, I'm not keen on them, or sew a flower on etc. Hopefully make them an outfit. (MIL bought the blue stuff, I prefer to buy white) Girl can keep all the 'boys toys' I found them way more fun as a child anyway!
We've got a girls first name, no middle yet, and a list of boys names that we can't settle on.

sacrecoeur0712 · 19/02/2019 07:05

I'm actually not really a fan of pink and never wear pink or red myself - my wardrobe is mostly blues, greens, greys and a bit of yellow. I love girly things but I will be on a mission to find baby clothes in neutrals and rainbow colours as I suspect we'll be gifted an awful lot of pink.

loveshinealight · 19/02/2019 07:31

I found it quite difficult to buy reasonably priced brightly coloured girls clothes. The majority of the supermarket stuff (a godsend in the early days of puke and poo) were a sea of pink. Sainsbury's tu and boots mini club are fab though as are Boden and Jojo (in the sales!)

sacrecoeur0712 · 19/02/2019 07:45

@loveshinealight I can see it's going to be tricky. I love Boden and Polarn O Pyret, and Gap have some nice bits, but they're not cheap!

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/02/2019 08:01

Next often have nice plain coloured stuff tbh, my dd is 5 and doesn't wear much pink frilly stuff.

ScotsBaby2 · 19/02/2019 09:18

We are a big fan of Frugi here. Loads of bright clothes and did discount sales. I'm in a blue geese dress and baby girl is in green flower dungas today.

@ScotsBaby2 love both those prints! 💕

Kcjoe · 19/02/2019 10:51

Bham just called me. Because the sample they took was small, they have to leave cultures to grow longer, so we won't hear cvs results for 10-14 days now 🙄 sighhhhhhh

Bakingabean · 19/02/2019 15:32

I had my 16 week check up today. As predicted, had to pee on command (onto a little paper slip).. I got stage fright and couldn't despite being busting!

I seemed to be the only one in the waiting room who took my DP along with me.. Is it unusual to have you partner with you for midwife appointments? (He works flexibly so time off isn't an issue.)

We got a listen to the heart beat! Nice and strong at 142 bpm. So I'm very glad that he was there to hear it. It's reduced my anxiety about something going wrong so my blood pressure was back to normal. Plus the insomnia seems to be going as away as well, such a relief!

Just got to hold on till Thursday afternoon to find out if it's a boy or girl! (what's the heart rate old wives tale about predicting sex?)

abw94 · 19/02/2019 15:41

@Bakingabean I'd say completely normal to have your partner there! I want mine at all my appointments and he wants to come too, however, he's self employed so struggling to juggle work around the appointments. If he doesn't come I've asked my mom and MIL to come so they can be part of the process too x

EverythingNow · 19/02/2019 15:55

@Kcjoe I hope the results do come quicker for you!

Jelliestogether · 19/02/2019 15:57

@bakingabean I think it's lovely your DH can go to all the appointments. Mine is only coming to the scans as he works over an hour away, unable to work from home and attending appointments would be unpaid, therefore in our decision a waste of money him coming for a 10 min appointment.

Jokie · 19/02/2019 16:20

Hi all, I'm not getting notifications anymore :( so keep missing huge chunks of this! Hope everyone is doing well!

We tried to have unisex as much as possible but a lot of the baby stuff was girly for our DD. Now, she's a little older, she's actually more in boys clothes as they tend to have a better fit for her tummy/bum than girl clothes.

I'm just on my way to the scan and nervously looking forward to it

ScotsBaby2 · 19/02/2019 16:58

Good luck @Jokie

Bakingabean · 19/02/2019 17:25

@ jelliestogether I know I'm very lucky that he can come to all the appointments- and I want him to, I guess I just over here bought it when I was in the waiting room and he was the only guy! Midwife had to go get another chair for the room too, which is why I thought maybe partners didn't usually go.

@abw94 - My mother in law would love to come I reckon but lives over 3 hours away andso not really feasible. I've got home from work to find a package from her though! I think she's been shopping already! Waiting for DP to finish a work call before I open it. It'll be our first baby stuff!

@jokie good luck at the scan!

@kcjoe I hope the cultures grow quickly so you don't have to wait 14 days!

Fuppy · 19/02/2019 17:30

Found out today I'm having a BOY Grin

ScotsBaby2 · 19/02/2019 18:00

@Bakingabean quickly order something online together then open her package then you get to have the first item for baby.

I think it is unusual for partners to attend midwife appointments apart from maybe the birth plan one but it's not unheard of. Your midwife will want one appointment without your partner though. One of the AN girls had her partner at everything bar one appointment.

Thanks @scotsbaby2 and @Bakingabean ; everything went well and was very thorough.

Like @fuppy: we're having a boy too!

Bakingabean · 19/02/2019 18:16

@scotsbaby2 it turned out to be a maternity shirt and a pair of socks for me and not baby stuff in the end! Bless her. She even got the right size without asking me or DP!

ScotsBaby2 · 19/02/2019 19:24

@Bakingabean that's so thoughtful!

@Jokie so glad it went well x

Is anyone elses appetite still really rubbish? I can't seem to get excited about any food except for chocolate and crisps and some fruit... i just want to snack as eating lots at once makes me feel sick. Im still spewing occasionally although it has got alot better. 16wks tomorrow, anyone else the same where food is concerned?

Kcjoe · 19/02/2019 21:01

Thank you @Bakingabean. Me too!

@Blueberry2018 I feel the same. Have no interest in food unless it's crisps and strawberries and melon! I used to eat so healthily. I feel sick if I don't eat so I end up eating plain types of food like chicken nuggets, rice or chips 🤣
