Anyone else?

I have quite long cycles but using OPKs, I have a rough idea of when I ovulated and have just got the faintest of lines. So 30 April or 1 May for me! Eek.

With DS we paid for a private early scan at 7 weeks. DH is really keen to do this again. I know it only gives reassurance at that moment in time and doesn't mean everything will be ok later but it was nice to see and the wait until the hospital scan didn't seem so long. Not sure about doing it again. Anyone else thinking of getting one?

UntilTheVeryEnd · 24/08/2018 17:40

I’ve had early scans with my first 2 DC - 1 for a bleed and 1 for a fall. If all goes well I’m planning on having a private scan at 8 weeks. I don’t think I’ll be able to wait until 12 weeks. Plus I’ll be 8 weeks just before my mums birthday - thought I could give her the picture for her birthday. She’s always made it very clear that she never wanted me to have more children so if there is a little baby picture hopefully she will take the news more favourably x

SurfingOwl · 24/08/2018 18:46

@8DaysAWeek I think my hospital will do early scans for me so I’ll get one.

@UntilTheVeryEnd I’m sorry your mum said that and I hope she comes round and is pleased for you.

seeingdots · 24/08/2018 19:58

Hi @positivepineapple and @tinyradish! Good to have you guys on board.

@UntilTheVeryEnd hopefully she'll be chuffed when it's a reality rather than hypothetical. Not really her business to be voicing her opinions on though surely!

I got my booking appointment sorted today and had a nice chat to the midwife who I'll be assigned to. I didn't realise that you need a higher dose of folic acid if your BMI's over 30 (mine was below that last time round). I've to take 5 mg instead of 400 mcg. I'm not sure why it's sooo much higher (yes I'm 2 stone heavier but >10x the dose??). Anyway, thought I'd flag it for any others who it's of relevance to who might not know.

Linzi14 · 24/08/2018 20:40

I’m due 23rd April, I had EMC with DD 2 years ago, and I am probably going to ask for an elective, mainly due to things that went on last time. If I didn’t I’ll definitely be having a May baby ,DD decided to appear 4 hours before I was due to be induced after been 2 weeks over!
Only symptoms are sore boobs! Got a little bit of lower back ache but that’s not unusual after a full day at work

Cass9220 · 24/08/2018 21:28

Hi, I think I’m due 1/5/19 but not sure as I have really short periods. I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks in November so I’m really scared. I keep getting pains i want to say in my ovaries which is freaking me out. This will be baby number 3 I have a nearly 6 year old and a 8 year old :)

positivepineapple · 24/08/2018 22:28

Thanks @SurfingOwl Smile

I paid for private scans with the two most recent miscarriages, both didn't go so well - but - at least I knew.

It such a long time from BFP to first scan, with nothing else but symptom spotting to reassure you that it's actually happening. its enough to drive you a little crazy!

Dependant on my booking appointment I may also book a private scan. The midwives in my area seem particularly stretched. I've never actually got to have a midwife appt yet! It's seems to be a 4/5 week wait as standard.

Hope everyone is feeling well? I don't know if it's all in my head but all I've wanted to do today is eat.

CrystalBlaze · 25/08/2018 07:37

Morning everyone. How are we all today?

I know what you mean about scans @8Days and others. It is tempting. My booking in appointment isn't even for another month yet. This might be a daft question but do they listen for a heartbeat at that point?

MimiSunshine · 25/08/2018 07:54

@CrystalBlaze during my first pregnancy my midwife didn’t listen for the heartbeat until after I’d had the 20wk scan.
She said it’s often too tricky to find and can cause distress.

However friends in two different areas of the country the midwife did listen in at 10 & 15 week appointments.

The booking in appointment is a long one and is essentially a huge form filling exercise for your medical history and they’ll weigh you etc.
If you’re not asked to take a urine sample with you, go with a full bladder as they will want one

8DaysAWeek · 25/08/2018 08:05

Yeah with DS they didn't check for a heartbeat until 16 weeks and even then they said beforehand that it can be normal not to find it at that point, Crystal.

Ah Mimi I totally forgot about the urine sample at the booking in appointment! Good shout for the full bladder. And remember everyone to take a sample pot home with you as you'll need a sample for every subsequent midwife appointment. I always preferred to fill it at home then take it in.

Out "for drinks" with a small group of friends this afternoon to celebrate an engagement. What do I say for why I'm not drinking??

UntilTheVeryEnd · 25/08/2018 08:16

@Cass9220 welcome to another third timer Grin glad am not the only person bonkers enough to go a third time. I’m really worried about managing the pregnancy with 2 DC running around. Mine are 4 and 18 month. What are your thoughts re telling them as they are a bitty older?

@8DaysAWeek hmmmm maybe go down the traditional “I’m on antibiotics” route or say “I’m on a detox” or discretly as the bar staff to put coke or lemonade in a small nip glass so it looks like a vodka and coke 🤷‍♀️

MimiSunshine · 25/08/2018 09:29

I had a family get together the other night. I ordered a tonic (fever tree aromatic) but asked for it in a large gin glass with lots of ice and sliced orange.
No one was any the wiser and it’s pretty pink colour helped with the appearance of being alcoholic.

If you’re not normally a gin drinker you could say you just fancied seeing what all the fuss was about or order a ‘spirit’ and coke of your usual choice but make sure they don’t give you the typical large soft drink glass

SurfingOwl · 25/08/2018 10:23

Aw @8DaysAWeek I agree about opting for a soft drink but making out it is a mixer. I hope you enjoy your afternoon.

I hope everyone else is doing ok. I feel a bit queasy this morning which I am taking as a really good sign. I know it doesn’t mean anything really but I always feel morning sickness is a legitimate symptom despite the fact so many women don’t get it.

Linzi14 · 25/08/2018 10:51

With my first I had horrific sickness every night quite early in so I feel like I am just waiting for that to happen again!
I’m just quite bloated atm, and tired 💤

Linzi14 · 25/08/2018 10:52

Owl that’s what I kept telling myself last pregnancy, the sickness sort of let me knew everything was ok.

LotsaTuddles · 25/08/2018 11:40

Tentatively dipping my toe in. Got an unexpected bfp this morning.

Providing all goes ok, this will be by 4th. We have ds age 4 (5 in a few weeks), dd1 age 3 and dd2 17 months.

From a quick calculation I’ll be due around 5th May so she’ll be 2 and a month ish 😱 - not my smallest age gap, there’s 15 months between ds and dd

SurfingOwl · 25/08/2018 13:07

Congratulations @LotsaTuddles

Hope you can get some rest this weekend @Linzi14

UntilTheVeryEnd · 25/08/2018 23:07

Well I told my pregnant best friend/SIL tonight (in person) that I was pregnant again - her response - oh! That was it, she never mentioned it again the rest of the night... feel a bit sad that she wasn’t able to be happy for me. Suppose I best get used to that reaction 😔

seeingdots · 26/08/2018 07:14

That's really sad that she couldn't just be a little bit pleased for you @UntilTheVeryEnd. It's not like the babies will be even due close together if she's already quite far on. I don't get why some people feel that if they're not the only pregnant person they know it takes the shine off it.

Hi @LotsaTuddles and congratulations!

Man I've had some horrible horrible vivid dreams the last couple of nights. Hoping that the hormone fuelled dreams turn into sex dreams instead of nightmares!! 😁

How is everyone else this morning?

8DaysAWeek · 26/08/2018 08:09

@UntilTheVeryEnd what a horrible reaction :( don't understand that at all. If she just announced last week that she was finally expecting then I'd get it maybe. I'm hoping you won't need to get used to that reaction at all and everyone else will be excited for you.

Drinks with the girls went fine, though I am 99% sure most think I'm pregnant. Oh well they'll know for sure in a couple of months all going well!

tinyradish · 26/08/2018 08:29

That's sad @untiltheveryend why do you think she reacted like that? How far along is she? Sad

UntilTheVeryEnd · 26/08/2018 09:32

@8DaysAWeek glad you had a nice time... I’m sure even if they suspect no one will say anything until you are ready to announce. It’s a long time til 12 weeks... that’s a lot of soft drinks Wink

@tinyradish she is nearly 33 weeks - she has had lots of fertility issues, loosing many early pregnancies and needing assisted conception. I do understand she must resent me - when I had my son (her nephew) she loves him naturally but said to me that she resented me and my ability to conceive and carry.
I do have lots of troubles myself re carrying and every pregnancy is a risk for me. But I know that my situation pales in comparison to horrid time she has had.
I understand that she will be resentful and sad that I’ve been able to conceive again. That’s just her nature - she is such an envious person. I didn’t even get the chance to say that I was sorry or that I promised I wouldn’t announce my pregnancy until her baby was born.
My DH has said for years we can’t put our life and our plans on hold because of someone else.
I don’t know - I just thought she would have given me a hug at least. Sorry ladies for pity party Sad

How’s everyone else feeling today? X

fnej01 · 26/08/2018 09:35

Hi Ladies,
Tentatively joining - am 5 weeks today but very nervous after a MMC in June at 12weeks. I think my EDD is 28th April. Hope everyone is doing well x

LotsaTuddles · 26/08/2018 09:39

@UntilTheVeryEnd, that’s such a shitty reaction. I really hate people. I’m full on expecting loads of “do you not watch tv!!” Comments. My mum’s going to go mental (I’m nearly 28, not 14, I swear) 🙈 but only because she worries, I have a history of miscarriages, hg and awful labours (though I’m pretty sure that I want an elcs and sterilised while they’re in there - so speedy, touch and go birth is less likely)

MimiSunshine · 26/08/2018 09:58

@fenj01 hi and welcome. I’m also 5wks today. Hopefully we’ll both have sticky babies for the next 35wks 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Any symptoms yet? I’ve started to feel a little bloated in the evening and vivid dreams but nothing else really yet.
This is my 2nd though and I didn’t get any nausea until I was around 8wks last time (also didn’t find out until I was over 6wks) so I’m trying not to worry.
