Hello! Been looking for this thread! My second child is due 21 March. I have a 5yo son

BadBadBeans · 02/09/2018 18:20

@melissa112 I'm sure it will be fine. For a start, fat is insulating so will have protected baby from the heat! Also as I understand it the main problem with baths and hot tubs is the fact that it raises your core temperature. Your core temperature won't have been raised by having a hot bowl over your clothes for just a few minutes. People sometimes sit with laptops on their laps for absolutely ages - I'm sure that would be different and why the advice is there. ALSO I know of loads of people who used their bump as a shelf for their cup of tea!

melissa112 · 02/09/2018 18:41

@Badbadbeans thanks for your reply. I guess you're right. God I'm such a mess sometimes. Starting thinking about the baby panicking in there and burning it! But hopefully it didn't raise my core temperature as you say. I had a shower yesterday and DSS had turned it up a bit hotter than usual and I felt really overheated in there and had to open the bathroom door for some air. Only afterwards did I start thinking whether I'd done the same amount of damage as a hot bath. Hopefully I'm just over thinking things but do have a niggling feeling now that I've caused some damage

Murphyrocks · 02/09/2018 18:43

@melissa112 as @BadBadBeans says the baths/hot tubs thing is due to raising core temperature not specifically on your belly, and the research on that beyond the point when the spinal tube closes (about 10 weeks I think) is dubious at best so actually I'm back to moderately hot baths now anyway. Really wouldn't worry!

Welcome @Daisy2990, congratulations! Let me know via PM if you'd like to join the Facebook group too I'm an admin so can add you.

melissa112 · 02/09/2018 19:24

@Murphyrocks thanks for the reassurance. Just hoping the hot shower wasn't enough to raise my temperature too much. I did feel really hot and turned the water cooler but I'm finding it hard not to worry. I do feel a bit better about the hot bowl now though so thanks to you and @Badbadbeans

Murphyrocks · 02/09/2018 19:27

No problem @melissa112, showers aren't a problem because you're not submerged so it won't affect your core temperature, no need to worry although I know that's easier said than done!

melissa112 · 02/09/2018 19:30

@Murphyrocks thank you. It feels good to get it out and get other people's opinions. I'll try to keep calm now Smile

Wineandchoccy · 02/09/2018 19:43

@melissa112 hope the others have reassured just saying I agree with what they have already said, it’s a blooming worry this pregnancy lark isn’t it x

Wineandchoccy · 02/09/2018 19:43

@Daisy2990 welcome to the group Smile

BadBadBeans · 02/09/2018 19:44

@melissa112 a shower I'm sure wouldn't be as bad as you aren't fully immersed in it, so you're in much more contact with the air. If it helps any I have had the shower turned up pretty hot a couple of times and it hasn't worried me - and I am a worrier. Do you suffer from anxiety at all? I do, and I found pregnancy and the first year of my son's life a bit more difficult because of it - I was worrying about and scrutinising every tiny thing. It was utterly exhausting but in the end I got help from a perinatal anxiety support team and that got me through. I think I am a lot better now but the last couple of weeks my DH has been pointing out that I'm worrying about things much more than usual.

New and impending motherhood is a really worrying time. My health visitor sort of described it as a sliding scale of anxiety, where everybody's anxiety naturally goes up a bit because suddenly they are responsible for this tiny being that they are growing/ raising. It is totally normal to worry and it shows that you are taking your new role seriously. My anxiety just went up too far on that scale and it started to impact on my life quite negatively. So if you are prone to anxiety just keep an eye on things and don't be afraid to ask for help. Xx

Wineandchoccy · 02/09/2018 19:45

I’m so tired and have had a mild headache most of the day Sad we are having pizza and an early night hopefully it will be go with plenty of sleep

cardboard33 · 02/09/2018 19:53

@badbadbeans it was all in (ie just before she gave birth) as everyone was telling her she hadn't put on enough weight to support the baby... and then my brother was born at almost 9lbs! Thanks everyone for your comments (and also a few days ago about my husband and his lack of engagement, I'm hoping it picks up once we've had the scan. It's good to know I'm not the only one! I guess I'll just have to see what happens... Along with everything else!

We went shopping today and I decided to see which stores had maternity sections. Turns out zero do, which is v surprising given our area of SW London is mummy central. I'm sure I've seen lines in the shops when I haven't been looking... Looks like post work trip centrally is in order as like others have said, I don't like buying clothes online so at this stage I just want to know where to go rather than actually buy anything!

Do any Londoners happen to know which shops (h&m, new look, gap etc) have maternity ranges in store & where? I work around Chelsea, so can get to most places easily enough or Westfield in White City. I've heard Regent's St stores are good?

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 02/09/2018 20:48

Has anyone bought any maternity bras yet?
I've bought one from new look and H&M but they're not supportive at all!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 02/09/2018 21:18

No maternity bras, just gone up a band and adjusted accordingly. Mixing wires and Non-Wired depending on the day.

Busy day at DN's 1st birthday party, but shattered now. Tempted to go to bed!

Murphyrocks · 02/09/2018 21:45

@Assumeitwassomethingclever maternity bras were my biggest investment last time but thankfully I had the foresight to keep them all for this time around! I'd recommend the Royce range for firmer support (although not especially flattering, I have the Lauren and the Charlotte styles), or Hot Milk do a lovely range that isn't too matronly! None are that cheap but I got most of mine on sale and only had 2 or 3 for each size. All online unfortunately but free returns so I just got myself measured (could get a rough idea at home) then ordered 2 or 3 of each design and returned the ones that didn't fit.

@assumeitwassomething clever I got a Hot Milk bra off ebay a couple of weeks ago and it is fabulously comfortable! Plus not too matronly. Unfortunately I've nearly outgrown it already (my boobs are just... god I don't even know who they belong to any more), so may re-list it and buy a new one.

Welcome @Daisy2990

thanks @AngelMiracle for starting thread 5! blimey we're busy! I'll see you all on the flipside.

PartridgeJoan · 13/09/2018 18:01

There’s so many messages on here I’m losing track! Has anyone had back pain recently? I’m 15 weeks and got a crampy feeling in my back yesterday which has turned into full blown agony. I think it will feel better when I lie down but I’m in the middle of my two hour commute home! Feeling quite sorry for myself

Oldermommy · 15/09/2018 10:29

Hi everyone
New here, I'm roughly due on 27th March so 12+ weeks now. I'm 42 and this will be my 3rd (10yr old dd and 5 yr old dd).
Bit concerned at the mo as I haven't had my scan yet and having been losing some brown discharge (tmi sorry, but only when I wipe). Got my scan Monday morning so keeping my fingers crossed all is ok!
