I'd forgotten about my feet swelling after the birth, I came home with my shoes undone Wineandchocy

Wineandchoccy · 31/08/2018 18:42

@Nightmanagerfan it’s for collapsing in a heap when you are shattered, snuggling up with baby it’s probably going to be cold in the middle of the night on March plus you can use it as a blanket for baby when they have thrown up over their own covers Grin

Wineandchoccy · 31/08/2018 18:45

@Bluebelltulip I had ballet pumps on and could barely fit my toes in Shock

ballanj · 31/08/2018 20:21

@Nightmanagerfan you've given me some inspiration with your list! I'm feeling a bit lost as to what to buy. I did treat myself to some leather look jean type jeggings from Next yesterday. They are so comfy and look very stylish. I've been living in leggings and felt nice to wear some smarter bottoms into work today that felt comfy

ballanj · 31/08/2018 20:21

And the feet thing ladies...? I would never have thought of those getting bigger!

Wineandchoccy · 31/08/2018 20:23

I ordered some maternity t shirts from Dorothy Perkins in the sale all my normal size and they all fit

BadBadBeans · 31/08/2018 20:31

@ballanj were they maternity leggings or just normal ones? They sound nice!

I don't remember my feet swelling after having DS but to be fair it was the middle of a heat wave and I was probably wearing flip flops!

LittleKitty1985 · 31/08/2018 20:39

I went maternity shopping today and bought some amazing jeggings & other things in H&M, but the maternity sections in other shops seem to have disappeared! Annoying, going to have to buy things online, which I hate as I'll blatantly end up sending 90% of it back Hmm

Murphyrocks · 31/08/2018 20:46

@BadBadBeans yes I was thinking the same, was in flips flops during the heatwave last time so no idea if my feet swelled or not. Will be interesting to see this time!

@nightmanagerfan it may also be worth considering a bump band or two which will extend the life of old bottoms and/or make maternity bottoms fit better when you're at that awkward in between stage like I am now! And yes a pack of decent comfy maternity knickers is a must imho, and maternity bras for each trimester if your boobs grow like mine do!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 31/08/2018 21:56

I don't think my feet swelled, but then they are tiny and I have to wear too big shoes anyway so probably wouldn't have noticed!

Angelmiracle · 31/08/2018 21:59

I had DS in winter I wore ugg boots 😂

It’s so annoying that you can’t buy maternity clothes in shops or if you can 99% of it is horizontal stripes. The one time in your life when you don’t know what fits and want to still feel nice and you can’t try on Angry

ballanj · 31/08/2018 22:18

@BadBadBeans these were maternity jeggings. Actually managed to get in store although sizes and selection were limited. Same in topshop. I tried on some maternity jeans in there but didn't have the colour I wanted so tried for size then ordered online. Plus I get 10% off owing to an NUS card I ordered before finishing my studies in June of this year, knew it would come in handy at some point!

ballanj · 31/08/2018 22:20

I've heard GAP maternity jeans are good. Went to a big store and they didn't stock them and said 'you can order online'. It's so frustrating when I'll probably need to try multiple styles and sizes to find the right ones and can't do it in many stores.

Jenlou1992 · 31/08/2018 22:36

Can I ask you ladies a couple of questions .

Has anyone put on weight or can't fit into clothes ?
This is my first baby and I'm roughly 12 weeks but pants are tight and it's really upsetting me because I feel I shouldn't be gaining yet . I have a bit of a tummy nothing mega but enough to make my jeans really uncomfortable .
Also I have forgot to take my pregnacare pill a few times since I started them . Will this have an impact on the pregnancy?

I haven't been sick this pregnancy I just suffer with bloat , constipation and I literally have no appetite . I eat but I just don't enjoy it . I have no idea what I want . It's a night mare

TheWanderlust · 01/09/2018 06:02

@Jenlou1992 I think it's all very normal. I don't fit in my usual jeans anymore but haven't actually put on any weight. What is it that's upsetting you about clothes beginning to not fit?

I've forgotten to take my pregnacare a few times, to the point the OH calls me "Safeguarding" (we both work in the care sector). I'm sure it's not a huge issue. Some women go through their entire pregnancy not taking anything at all x

Wineandchoccy · 01/09/2018 07:05

@Jenlou1992 This is my 2nd baby so I have been in maternity clothes a lot sooner than last time but even last time when I wasn’t in maternity jeans I was having to do the hair bobble trick or wear leggings even without a proper bump.

Vitamins I take at night as they make me feel less sick but yes I have forgotten a few times don’t worry I’m sure as long as you take them most of the time you will be ok

Shampooeeee · 01/09/2018 08:05

@Jenlou1992 I put on a lot of weight in the first trimester with DS. I think because I had all day nausea that was eased by nibbling on carbs. This time I didn’t gain any weight before 13 weeks, but I was very bloated early on and now I have an obvious bump. My current bump at 14 weeks looks like my 20 week bump last time.
Pregnancy can be a weird time, with your body changing in all sorts of ways and feeling a bit out of control. Be kind to yourself.

toastfiend · 01/09/2018 08:57

@Jenlou1992 I've not gained any weight on the scales but my jeans no longer fit (and haven't for weeks) and lots of my other clothes are tighter. I won't lie, I'm struggling with it a bit. I have a few body image issues and hang ups about how I look anyway and this has brought them all roaring back to the surface. I think buying some maternity jeans might help me as it takes the "pressure" off trying to fit into my usual jeans. I'm trying to embrace it as much as possible but I've shed a few tears. I actually want a proper bump as then at least I'll look pregnant, whereas at the moment I just look a bit doughy and like I have no waistline. I've never been pregnant before but a lot of my friends have also felt like this so I think it is quite normal. Now I've started to feel less sick I'm just trying to focus on eating as well as possible so I know I'm doing what I can to keep my body and baby healthy. Until 12 weeks though I was all about the beige carbs and couldn't look at a vegetable without gagging!

With regards to the pregnacare. I take mine most days but have missed a few. When I told the midwife she wasn't remotely concerned, just said as long as I'm taking it most of the time the occasional miss won't make much difference.

ladycarlotta · 01/09/2018 09:13

@jenlou1992 with the vitamins, it definitely won't hurt your pregnancy - the baby takes what it needs from you, regardless of whether you are getting enough, so supplementing will be for your benefit rather than its. Missing a day here and there is not going to hurt you though.

I'm with @toastfiend, this stage of pregnancy is making me feel doughy and gross. I wasn't brilliantly happy with my body anyway - I'm well over my preferred weight - and definitely look hefty rather than blooming. I'm trying to cover up rather than choosing anything form-fitting, since I don't have a bump. I haven't gained weight but am definitely too big for some of my clothes - my boobs are huge, and my waist is less defined. I'm sure we'll all feel better when we have proper pregnancy bumps, but it's hard to shake off ideas about what our bodies 'should' look like.

Murphyrocks · 01/09/2018 09:43

Yes I agree with @ladycarlotta and @toastfiend, this stage tends to be 'is she pregnant or just getting a bit fat' which is less than glamorous! Definitely feel a bit doughy. I've found myself pushing my tummy out in public and rubbing my bump a bit to try and avoid people thinking the latter!

VillageFete · 01/09/2018 09:57

I’m 10 weeks on Monday and am definitely looking like i’ve put some weight on. My stomach is really noticeably swollen. I’m going to get some Topshop Maternity Jeans after my 12 week scan, but what size do I get? I’m a 12 in their jeans usually but only their 14 fit me at the minute with this bump?

This getting up to wee at night thing is so annoying. I wake twice on average and am DESPERATE for the loo. Then when I wake up in the morning I have to go straight away. I don’t seem to go so much in the day.

Nightmanagerfan · 01/09/2018 10:05

@wineandchoccy dressing gown it is then - multi purpose item! @ballanj I think I’ve found those leggings online - did you get your pre-pregnancy size?

@villagefete totally agree re the nighttime weeing. It’s so annoying. Last night I managed only getting up once and my bladder was so full on waking! I wonder if that calms down a bit?

Yes to feeling doughy. My jeans do up in the morning but are agony by the end of the day - even with the hair band trick. I think it’s leggings until maternity jeans fit.

ballanj · 01/09/2018 10:23

@Nightmanagerfan I did yeah, tried on two sizes in the store as I tend to float between an 8 and a 10. Got the 10 in the end 👍🏼

ballanj · 01/09/2018 10:26

@VillageFete I was the same as you. Quickly outgrew my Topshop Jamie Jeans but tried on the Jamie maternity ones in my usual size and they fit well. Definitely worth getting some to see you through the next few months. All I've been able to wear is leggings aswell so nice to have some other options.
