This is my 2nd dc. We weren’t trying so unexpected but I’ve had a feeling something was going on for the last week. Tested this morning and got a BFP.

So it’s DC2 (already have a 4 year old DS)
Due date 5/11/18 I think

My feb 2014 group is fab and I’ve made some lovely friends on there so hoping to do the same this time all being well!

Apologies if this has been asked already. I'm thinking of booking a private scan. DH is away when I'll be 7.5-9 weeks. Would it be pointless to have it before he goes (he wants to be there), or should I wait until he's back?

Potkettleblack2 · 17/03/2018 08:50

Sorry, my question is-when do up u all think is the best time to have a private scan?

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 17/03/2018 08:54

@Potkettleblack2 I'm having an early private scan on 28th when I will be approx 8.5 weeks.

Should be able to get good heartbeat then (I hope) and my NHS scan isn't until 24th April so breaks the time up.

Picklesandpies · 17/03/2018 08:57

Thanks so much for helpful replies. I actually think an early scan is a good idea @sarahhh1984** - to be honest I hadn't really considered that, which is strange as I did have one with our second baby. I think at that time though I was more worried about twins than anything else (my father is a twin.) I feel more clueless this time than the first two times - first time I read everything as I had a lot more time, second time I remembered everything from the first time!

Interested to hear that GPS don't generally ask you to do a test - the receptionist said 'have you had an appointment to confirm your pregnancy?' but maybe it's more of a tick the box thing. I do also have to have some extra blood tests as I don't have a thyroid so medication will need adjusting (it's been a long road to the point of ttc again since having it removed 4 years ago.)

I will try really hard not to test again. Absolutely no symptoms - which would at least offer some reassurance. But not yet 5 weeks so probably far too early! Luckily no vivid dreams yet either - remember dreaming about giving birth to kittens last time Confused

Thanks for the advice.

AJ89 · 17/03/2018 09:18

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has experience of being consultant lead? Had my booking appointment with the midwife on Thursday and she said due to my hypothyroidism I’m high risk. Will it just be a case of more appointments and monitoring? I think with all the information overload I’ve forgotten what the midwife said lol.

Picklesandpies · 17/03/2018 09:41

I'm not sure yet but if I hear anything at my appointment on Tuesday I'll let you know - I was hyperthyroid so had mine removed. x

BadBadBeans · 17/03/2018 09:42

@LastNightsMakeUp ugh to horrid dreams. I think mine disappeared towards the end of the first trimester last time but at only 5+2 that feels an awfully long time to wait!

@Picklesandpies haha about giving birth to kittens! My GP didn't give me a test in my last pregnancy. I've got one test left so might do it in a week's time. All my symptoms have eased off now and i feel totally normal except for being a bit hungrier than usual. Which obviously makes me wonder if I am imagining I'm pregnant. But I felt like that last time too.

@Potkettleblack2 I personally would leave it until he gets back so that there's the most chance of seeing a heartbeat. I think sometimes early scans do worry people when actually everything is okay.

MrsFTigalar · 17/03/2018 09:45

@AJ89 I was consultant led last time due to epilepsy. It was fine, and his team were amazing when my waters broke at 33 weeks.

What is it you'd like to know?

dontquit · 17/03/2018 09:47

I had Gp apt yday and didn't bother bringing urine sample as previous 2 pregnancies I'm sure she didn't test. Of course she asked for a sample when I didn't have one. Haven't tested now for a few weeks so was stupidly nervous as she did it but thankfully line came up straightaway.
Getting cramps this morning so a bit worried as haven't had any so far. Mc'd at 7 weeks before. Fingers crossed. Lying in bed now afraid to go to the loo. Don't think I'm bleeding though!

SkyLucy · 17/03/2018 09:49

Hi @potkettleblack2, I wasn't sure of my days so had a private scan yesterday at 7+4. It was maybe a tad early as the sonographer couldn't see much at first, and had to do an internal scan (always fun!!) We did see baby clearly though, and his/her little heartbeat.

@AJ89 I was consultant-led in my last pregnancy (delivered last year), because I was very anaemic and had a heart problem. I was disappointed because I wanted a very hands-off birth in the birthing centre, but actually it wasn't a problem at all. I had a few more appointments/checks during my pregnancy (beyond the MW appointments), and was monitored every 20 minutes during labour in a delivery suite, but still had a lovely pain-relief-free birth.

LastNightsMakeUp · 17/03/2018 09:56

@dontquit I think that sample would be mainly for protein etc in your urine rather than a pregnancy test? Like in every mw appointment?

(How hard is it to not pee all over yourself when you’re heavily pregnant trying to get a urine specimen!?!)

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 11:09

Just catching up on the old thread - I’m shot half way though :D @SkyLucy and @wejammin I’m vegan too! First fully vegan pregnancy although have been veggie for years. My hubby and children are vegan now too!

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 11:10

^ *about half way through (autocorrect! Blush)

SkyLucy · 17/03/2018 11:24

Ah yay @marchblossom, good to see another vegan mama. Must be lovely to have the whole family on board too. My DH and DD are meat eaters, so I'm a bit out on a limb!!

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 11:26

@emelsie (sorry still playing catch up!) I have also fallen pregnant around the same time as my first DD 10 years ago! Must be something about this time of year. We were trying but not very actively lol. EDD is also 17/11 :)

Anyone else from the Oxford area? Or planning a homebirth?! Grin

GP and midwife booked for April, either side of a little family holiday to Lanzarote...anyone else planning a trip abroad whilst pregnant?

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 11:27

@SkyLucy mine DDs and hubby only just converted last year - don’t lose hope :)

SkyLucy · 17/03/2018 11:38

Haha @marchblossom it's fine, DH is fine meat-free at home and we made a conscious joint decision to raise our daughter eating everything (she's only a baby). It's my own moral decision...but that's not to say I wouldn't be over the moon if they both 'saw the light', ha!

Enjoy your hols, so nice to have a trip to warmer climes to look forward to isn't it? It's blooming snowing here again today!! We're off to Croatia in May, can't wait.

LastNightsMakeUp · 17/03/2018 11:45

@marchblossom we’re off to Dubai for a few days... slightly dreading wrangling our toddler with morning sickness on the plane but will be totally worth it. I’m veggie and mostly dairy free. Did you have any problems during your previous pregnancy? I was almost immediately put on iron tablets and found that I gained loads of weight as was reaching for sugary stuff for energy. Going to try and curb it in this time!

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 11:53

Hi @Picklesandpies ! So nice to hear from someone in a similar situation! Very happy to be pregnant again (we waited a long time to try and hen fell quite quickly :) but unfortunately I had a bit of a car accident two days before I got the BFP (truck ploughed into me from behind while I was stationary in a tailback) so now not sure what’s pregnancy and what’s concussion/whiplash! Been signed off for 2 weeks though so planning on lots of sleep while I’m feeling like this :)

How are you feeling? When will you tell your children? My eldest still has one more year at primary so I’m looking forward to mat leave and being a proper mum for a year! Currently a full time teacher so term times are pretty hectic!

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 12:01

@LastNightsMakeUp hi! Ooh Dubai is a bit more exotic than Lanzarote :) how lovely. My girls are older so usually pretty easy when travelling. Going to have a huge shock when this little one comes along Shock

I do suffer with low iron and have brown skin so limited Vit D absorption. I take the Garden of Life prenatal it’s amazing. Full of everything we need and totally vegan/wholefood based so nothing nasty in their. I’m mainly taking that for the folate content and once past the 1st trimester will go back to just iron and vit D probably.

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 12:03

@LastNightsMakeUp but yes otherwise felt fine and sailed through my pregnancies! Was in my twenties then though Grin

marchblossom · 17/03/2018 12:04

Yes snowing here too @SkyLucy ! Croatia will be lovely in May Smile

Picklesandpies · 17/03/2018 12:50

@marchblossom Hi, yes think we are in very similar situations! We plan to tell our girls once we are past 12 week mark. What about you? I do keep having that slightly guilty feeling when I look at our two now - sort of worried that it will turn their world upside down for a while. Love them so much, I don't want to do anything to make them feel less important. Typical feelings I expect! I feel pretty much normal at the moment, other than a few stretchy pains. No sickness or particular tiredness yet. Poor you with your car accident - that sounded scary. Like you say, you can put your feet up while you are signed off at least (or as much as childcare, activities, cooking, homework etc allows!)

Picklesandpies · 17/03/2018 12:52

@BadBadBeans I'm glad I'm not the only one with no symptoms! I had horrendous ms with dd1 and not too bad with dd2 (in that I could at least leave the house!) Hoping for the latter again!

Cupofteagarita · 17/03/2018 12:56

Hello all, I am a little late to the November party but may I join you? EDD 22 Nov with DC3...

DS is almost 8 and DD is 5 so I feel like a bit of a novice all over again (cue obsessive POAS just to "make sure"....Blush
