This is my 2nd dc. We weren’t trying so unexpected but I’ve had a feeling something was going on for the last week. Tested this morning and got a BFP.

So it’s DC2 (already have a 4 year old DS)
Due date 5/11/18 I think

My feb 2014 group is fab and I’ve made some lovely friends on there so hoping to do the same this time all being well!

Also re. Urine test..when I had a Mc at 7weeks before I did pregnancy tests every couple of days after and I think it took up to 2 weeks to get a negative. And I had a very straight forward MC (as they go!). I started bleeding, pink on wiping initially and then within an hr or so bright red blood and started cramping. Got to epu early..sac visible on scan (was 7weeks so should have been heartbeat but it had never developed). They still couldn't definitely say I was miscarrying in case dates were wrong etc but I knew exact dates. That night bleeding got heavier with lots of clots and I saw the sac. Things eased of them but continues like period for at least a week.
Hoping this not the case for you but yes you are definitely entitled to epu check and if all looks ok they will get you back in a week to see if pregnancy is developing or if MC is complete. Thinking of you x

moomoo85 · 16/03/2018 12:24

@TheStickSong sorry to hear that you are bleeding. Please contact either your GP or your early pregnancy unit (depending on how they accept referrals for some it needs to be a GP referral). They can arrange either a scan or blood test which should give you more of an idea of what is going on.

You could wait it out but it could be very stressful. I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks back in November and it took three weeks from the time I started bleeding for the test to go negative so just waiting to see if that happens would be a long wait.

Hello, tentatively joining as I got a very faint positive on a frer this morning. Slightly shocked and mixed feelings actually. We haven't used any contraception since before conceiving dc3 (who is just over 2yrs now) because I still bf him and it took over 2yrs fo my period to come back, and I spent the whole time kind of hoping for a 'happy accident' baby, but not committed enough to properly 'try'. And I was hoping for a smaller age gap, as my 3 dc's are very close in age, and I didn't want baby to be left out. I literally made my mind over yesterday that I needed to stop hoping something would happen, and made a plan for perminant contraception. We are also right in the middle of a horrible time for the family. My MIL was recently diagnosed with aggressive terminal cancer and has weeks to live. This feels like such a strange time to find out I'm pregnant! And to be honest I really don't know how to feel about it! I know I'll get my head round it eventually and be happy and excited, but just seems a bit surreal at the moment!

olderthanyouthink · 16/03/2018 13:29

Thanks @BadBadBeans I'm hoping the upside of being young is that (touch wood) this surprise should be easier on my body

@Teaisnecessary when I was 3/4 I wanted a brother, then -I think- while my mum was pregnant I changed my mind and wanted a sister so when my brother was born I threw a huge tantrum, I got over it once I met him Grin little kids are weird

@Katy16 Congrats, you have the same estimated due date as me and teaisnecessary

@TheStickSong get it checked out, I really hope everything's ok

@Mumblebumbles congrats on your BFP and sorry to hear about your MIL

Yesterday was a bit crap, I have a cold and I can't just drug myself better anymore, I was tired and super emotional, I'd just moved so I can't find anything and there's stuff everywhere, I'll have to move again before November...
Shouldn't complain too much though I don't have to look after anyone else and I don't feel sick anymore/yet (MAP made me nauseous).

SakuraSunrise · 16/03/2018 13:46

@TheStickSong I'm really sorry to hear you're bleeding, I echo what others have said, definitely contact your GP.

@Mumblebumbles welcome, I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL, you just be feeling such a mix of emotions.

I've heard back from my GP re my second bloods yesterday, my HCG have risen since last week's spotting as they should, so I feel a bit more reassured, but still a bit anxious, just want the next 5-6 weeks to hurry up so I can get to the 12 week scan.

Rose900 · 16/03/2018 13:47

I hope you’re doing well ladies. I find this threat really good and whenever I can I catch up with the old posts... probably I didn’t see someone writing about it, but has anyone had blood test done to confirm pregnancy and that is going well? If yes, did you book in with your gp or you can do also privately paying for it? I hope I can do it soon for a peace of mind... xx

Emelene · 16/03/2018 13:59

Just heard from my Maternity unit - I have a booking appointment for when I'm 10 + 4 or and a 12 week scan booked for 26th April when I'll be 12 +4. So excited - it seems more real now. Although it's nearly another 4 weeks until the first appointment and nearly 6 weeks till the scan! Seems ages but it's nice to get some dates in the diary. Smile

Welcome @Mumblebumbles and congratulations! I'm sorry to hear your family is going through such a tough time at the minute Thanks xxx

Mumblebumbles · 16/03/2018 14:26

Thanks ladies. I just remembered I took an antihistamine this morning before I did the test!! They aren't safe in pregnancy are they?! Can't remember!

moomoo85 · 16/03/2018 14:54

@Mumblebumbles which one did you take?

Most of them are in the category of not known to be harmful but officially not licenced.

olderthanyouthink · 16/03/2018 14:58

@Mumblebumbles The Loratadine in my bag says don't take if pregnant or breastfeeding but the NHS says it's ok

sarahhh1984 · 16/03/2018 16:21

@TheStickSong, sorry to hear you're going through such a worrying time. I'm sure you've followed the advice on here by now, so hope you've managed to speak to your GP, mw or the EPU. Bleeding doesn't always mean the worst is happening but it can be so worrying and upsetting. Thinking of you.

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 16/03/2018 18:44

@TheStickSong I hope you're ok. Thanks

This whole pregnancy thing is just so worrying all the bloody time. Every little twinge I feel sends me in to meltdown mode. I'm getting the odd pinching pain in my tummy and under my ribs every now and then which is freaking me out. Anyone else?

I don't know if I mentioned; we've booked the early scan for 28th so that we can put a picture in with FIL at the funeral.

Tyrionsbitch · 16/03/2018 19:50

@TheStickSong i hope you are ok, such a worrying time.

I am struggling today with sciatica which I have never had before - no idea if it is anything to do with pregnancy or if I have done too much at the gym!

I am also getting quite a lot of period like cramps, they don't last long but happen relatively frequently during the day. I have had them since I poas 2 weeks ago. Does anybody know if this is anything I should worry about?

bibkas · 16/03/2018 20:20

Hi all,
Hoping to join, sounds silly but need some reassurance with dating!

Came off the pill on new years day and didn't have a period before getting a BFP on 27.02.18. Can narrow it down though as we only started trying without other contraception on 07.02.18. A clear blue digital said 2-3 weeks on 27.02.18 so 4-5 weeks actual. Would you say this is reliable and I would be around 6-7 weeks this week? So hard to work out when you dont have a period to go from, or is that just me?!

MeredithShepherd · 16/03/2018 21:18

I’m exactly the same Tyrion. I keep getting the cramps but I’m assuming it’s just everything stretching as they are not painful.

Fingers crossed for you stick x

moomoo85 · 17/03/2018 03:32

@bibkas earliest you probably could have been on the 27th is 5 weeks meaning you could be 7.5 now.

We have had an eventful day. My older child is in hospital. Nothing serious thankfully but the long stay in a&e and limited snacks and poor sleep has made my sickness worse

Picklesandpies · 17/03/2018 05:16

@moomoo85 I hope your dc is ok and you recover from your late night.

@thesticksong How are you? Hope you are holding up ok.

If anyone has time or is awake at a silly hour like me, would you mind having a read of my post on conception called 'CBD - which wrapper is which?' I've been silly and done a CBD test again but it says 'not pregnant' even though I've done one before that said 'pregnant 1-2'. The frer one I did just now is definitely positive but I now feel very uncertain as to whether this will have a happy outcome.

Thanks for any advice.

BadBadBeans · 17/03/2018 06:14

@Picklesandpies I think you do just need to step away from the tests! Sorry you are feeling anxious about it. Personally I wouldn't use a range of different tests at different times of day to check or track pregnancy. They all have different sensitivities and are likely to give confusing results when compared to one another. And you have confused yourself further by not knowing which type of digital you have! The photo of the FRER looks very clear to me that you are pregnant! It's a strong line. If you must test, use the same brand at the same point tomorrow morning. Please try not to worry!

@moomoo85 I'm glad it's nothing serious. Hope your DC is out of hospital before too long.

More vivid dreams here ladies. Not nightmares this time but more extreme stress / embarrassment dreams. Can't wait for this phase to bog off!

sarahhh1984 · 17/03/2018 07:07

@Picklesandpies I've always been led to believe that the CBDs are less sensitive than FRERs so that could be why you're getting a negative result on one, especially if you're testing at different times of day.

ICs are notorious for giving faint lines (just look at the Amazon reviews). Mine only gave me a barely-there line with FMU. I re-tested with an FRER with my second wee of the day (I was confirming BFP was actually there because it was such a squinter) and had a really strong line. After that I didn't re-test until I had to on instruction from the EPU.

Your FRER shows you definitely have a positive (congratulations!). I would stop testing, assume all will be well and just enjoy being pregnant. And if you really must re-test, as @BadBadBeans says, use the same brand of test at the same time of day.

Picklesandpies · 17/03/2018 07:49

Thanks for your replies @sarahhh1984 and @badbadbeans- really appreciate it. I know you are speaking sense; I just need to leave the tests alone now. I have a doctors appointment on Monday - I'm scared I'm going to do a test there and it will be negative. I will just have to hope for the best and focus on the positive test I have hidden in my wardrobe! I am seeing my parents this afternoon. I'm really close to my Mum and definitely want to share it with her but I think I'll just be clear that it's very early days. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. What a lifeline this thread is! Happy weekend.

LastNightsMakeUp · 17/03/2018 08:04

@picklesandpies I’m not sure what others experiences are but I never had a pregnancy test by the gp or midwives in my previous pregnancy. I did come away thinking.... ‘you just believe me?!’ Of course there is no reason not to. But I did always wonder if maybe the 6 tests I’d done up to that point could have been wrong and I was imagining the whole thing!

Vivid stressful dreams about my job last night which I left last month. I was being sent to Saudi Arabia in relation to organ donation and was worried I might get arrested as an unmarried pregnant woman or that organ donation would not be legal there!!! Coupled with getting up for 4 wee’s overnight = not the most restful night!!

Also in my haste and excitement of buying ‘we’re having a baby books’ for my dd I ordered 2 ‘waiting for baby’ by Rachel Fuller. I reckon it’s best suited to 1-3 year olds. I thought I could pay it forward and send it to one of you guys if anyone would like it?

keepinghopeful · 17/03/2018 08:04

@Picklesandpies its so hard to not test but ive had too many horrors with testing ive been strong this time as wont change the outcome x

I am suffering with bad insomnia ... wake to go to toilet & cant get back to sleep worrying about stuff 😩

sarahhh1984 · 17/03/2018 08:17

@Picklesandpies Usually your GP doesn't get you to do a test. Mine actually said the shop bought ones are usually better than the ones he uses so he was happy to believe me as were the EPU and my community mw!

If you are very nervous, you do have the option of booking an early scan privately. That's going to be better than comparing tests! Most places do it from about seven weeks so if you feel it would set your mind at rest it could be a good option. Not sure where you are in the country. I know in Liverpool, the Women's Hospital lets you book private scans in addition to the standard NHS ones, Or else there are lots of companies out there that let you do it too.

sarahhh1984 · 17/03/2018 08:22

@Picklesandpies, pressed post too early! Meant to add, I know it isn't your first so you obviously know all that early scan stuff anyway. Just wanted to remind you to reassure you that you don't need to rely on tests to try to guess what's going on!

MrsFTigalar · 17/03/2018 08:31

Morning all,

I'd forgotten about the vivid dreams! A 4 year gap will do that to.you I guess. Last night was a combination of Call the Midwife & Bake Off which resulted in me or Stacy Solomon having a miscarriage. I woke up at half 3 and didn't get back to sleep till gone 5. Still, DS and DH are off to rugby this morning so I'm going to have a hot shower and glare malevolently at the snow.

I had to self refer to midwifery yesterday - which is hugely different to when I had DS.
