This is my 2nd dc. We weren’t trying so unexpected but I’ve had a feeling something was going on for the last week. Tested this morning and got a BFP.

So it’s DC2 (already have a 4 year old DS)
Due date 5/11/18 I think

My feb 2014 group is fab and I’ve made some lovely friends on there so hoping to do the same this time all being well!

@hellotoyellow that sounds sensible. Sorry to many of us are going through spotting but hopefully that means it's normal and will all work out ok for us. Hope you get a scan at the EPU, I had no trouble getting one. I phoned 111 who referred me to an out of hours Gp who then booked me in for the next morning.

Sonographer was lovely and reassuring but I'm still nervous.

Nightmanagerfan · 18/03/2018 19:27

@magpie24 I’ve been in bed today too - the exhaustion is quite something. I went to bed at 9:30 last night and will be heading off at a similar time tonight.

@pickles my nausea started about 6 weeks and has got steadily worse (still no vomiting though). I’m now 7+4.

I’m not convinced that resting is working for me, even though I feel unwell. The days where I’ve just got on with it and kept busy I’ve felt psychologically better (if exhausted).

Katy16 · 18/03/2018 19:50

@Magpie24 Thanks for the reassurance. I think I'll call my GP in the morning and see what they say

moomoo85 · 18/03/2018 19:53

The last few days my nausea has started to kick in to a greater level. Haven't been sick but I think that is because I have basically resorted to eating constantly...
5+6 today.

BadBadBeans · 18/03/2018 20:02

Firstly and most importantly, @TheStickSong I was really sorry to read your sad news. I'm glad you have the puppy to snuggle, and I hope you are being really well looked-after. Wishing you luck for the future, and it would be lovely to see you back on the thread around November. All the best xxx

@marchblossom regarding the car being written off - that is a true case of every cloud having a silver lining!

@Picklesandpies may I ask if there's a reason you're more interested in having the Panorama than the Harmony? We had Harmony last time and I was very happy with it, but I hadn't even heard of the Panorama then. I think I will be having the Harmony anyway, and will probably travel back to the place we had it two years ago - even though we've moved to the next county since then! I'll probably wait till we're about 11 weeks to have it because I can't remember the exact date my last period started, and I don't know exactly when I ovulated, so I wouldn't want to accidentally go before 10 weeks...! Oh and regarding nausea, mine started just before 7 weeks last time, but it never got terrible.

Hi @TinyPaws and congratulations! How exciting!

@Potkettleblack2 oh no! I only suffered with constipation in pregnancy so can't advise I'm afraid. Could you see a pharmacist tomorrow perhaps?

@sarahhh1984 @LastNightsMakeUp I really hope I don't meet any resistance regarding an ELC second time round! I had quite a lot of anxiety immediately after DS's EMCS birth, all of which is in my maternity notes, so I am hoping that will help strengthen my case. But I don't even know if you have to 'fight' for it if you've already had a C-section. I think that ladies who want one first time round would perhaps have to present a strong case with good reasons why, but surely having had one already is enough of a reason. There are risks with a second C-section and risks with a VBAC - surely it's up to the woman to decide which risks they'd rather take?

@Magpie24 I am freelance and work from home so this time round I don't have to deal with telling work. I must say it is quite nice! Although the maternity pay won't be as good as it would have been in my previous career... Actually I need to look into how maternity pay works as a freelancer. I guess I'm still entitled to statutory?! Hope so!!!! Anyone know anything about this?!

@MammyDC Welcome! What's a WTE group? Excuse my ignorance!

My hangry levels reached a new high today when DH told my in-laws (who we live with and who we share meal cooking with) not to bother cooking for me and him, but that he would do it later... But he didn't explain this properly to me! So when everyone else's dinner was ready and I was starving and really looking forward to eating THERE WAS NO FOOD! ARGH! And nobody else knows I'm pregnant so I couldn't even have a hormonal hungry breakdown and sob at the kitchen table (even though I seriously wanted to) because I would have looked absolutely mental... Have had a bit of a furious conversation with him in private about the fact that I'm not kidding when I say I have been getting desperate bouts of hunger over the last few days, and that maybe volunteering to delay my dinner by an hour is not a great plan!

moomoo85 · 18/03/2018 20:16

@BadBadBeans I think if self employed you get maternity allowance which is the same as SMP but claimed differently www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance/eligibility

BadBadBeans · 18/03/2018 20:22

@moomoo85 oh that's brilliant, thank you. I've had a quick squizz at that page and I should easily be eligible for the full MA, which is going to be incredibly helpful for keeping us afloat financially! Although has reminded me that I need to go and check I paid my voluntary Class 2 NI last year! Think I did...

Magpie24 · 18/03/2018 20:24

@Katy16 that sounds like a good idea, let us know how you get on.

MiniMinions · 18/03/2018 20:26

@TheStickSong Am so sorry to hear your news, I hope a sticky bean comes along soon for you x

Hello @TinyPaws and welcome!! Re queasiness yep I'm 6w+5 and have had on and off since 5w icky feeling in throat but not actually been sick. I had this with DS1 so am hoping I am lucky and have the same again as I'm awful when sick haha I've found that little meals and often helps so far.

@Pumpkin2018 I'm awful for sleeping at the moment, taking ages to get to sleep and if I wake up the cycle repeats, woke at 3:30 this morning and barely dozed until DS called out for us at 6:30.

@Teaisnecessary we've only got one child but my advice is to avoid any family cars with underfloor storage compartments. Can limit your choices of isofix and also if want to rearface until 25kg the storage boxes with fillers are generally only tested to 18kg.

@MammyDC am also trying to potty train (or should that say fail!)

And this snow can do one now...roads all cleared by tea time now snow laying again now grrr bet won't be enough for a snow day and will be crawling in traffic

Picklesandpies · 18/03/2018 20:35

@BadBadBeans I am absolutely no expert on the NIPTs but my understanding is that Panorama tests for a few more things than the Harmony and you can also have it done a bit earlier. However, I need to look into it all a bit more closely before I make a final decision. There seems to be a lot to get your head around!

MammyDC · 18/03/2018 20:50

Thank you! It’s what to expect, an American site but it was a really good group and i’d Get a daily email from the June group showing all the posts in there that day and then just click to reply or add. Is this site just one long thread? I can’t keep up 😂

sarahhh1984 · 18/03/2018 20:57

@BadBadBeans and @LastNightsMakeUp, thanks for the replies. Think I'm going to wait for my referral to the consultant mw and see what she says.

@BadBadBeans I'm freelance and was during my last pregnancy too. We can claim Maternity Allowance, which isn't quite as good as SMP as you go straight on to the basic rate rather than getting the first few weeks at 90% salary, but it covers us for up to 39 weeks.

You can find out all the info here: https://www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance

My only tip would be to make sure you do your self assessment as early as you can in the new tax year as they'll need to make sure you've paid the correct amount of NI before they pay out.

It is great being self employed and pregnant though. You can take naps when you need to for one thing! Wink

Teaisnecessary · 18/03/2018 21:04

@sarah1984 and @Lastnightsmakeup
I didn’t have to fight for my elective (after previous emergency). I was lucky enough to have a caseload midwife last time and her team are home birth specialists so I was slightly apprehensive. But she was lovely and put me under no pressure whatsoever.

The only time I was made to feel a bit rubbish about it was at a meeting with other ladies on their books, where mothers who had given birth recently shared their birth stories. It was all very pro natural/anti section and I left feeling a bit deflated about my own experience. That’s by the by though - there was no issue around me choosing one! Hopefully it will be get the same for you if you want to go that route. 🙂

LastNightsMakeUp · 18/03/2018 21:17

@teaisnecessary thank you - that’s really good to hear your experience, fingers crossed here - although it’s a long way off!

Teaisnecessary · 18/03/2018 21:23

@MiniMinions Thanks very much for the tip!

@TinyPaws Congratulations and welcome! I’ve been feeling very similar to you since a week after I conceived, so I can sympathise. I probably can’t win though, as when my symptoms ease off (they come & go) I find it hard not to feel uneasy! My sickness didn’t kick in until week 6 in my previous pregnancies so was a bit of a surprise. I know it’s probably going to get worse around that point!

@Pumpkin2018 My sleep’s a mess at the moment. I seem to be in a rubbish cycle where I suffer terrible insomnia for a couple of nights running then need to be in bed really early the next, sleep soundly that one night, then repeat. I accidentally nodded off for 2 hours this afternoon too! I have the darkest shadows under my eyes...

TinyPaws · 18/03/2018 21:36

just got caught up on the thread. Thanks for the welcomes. Congratulations everyone! :)

Glad to hear that the crazy dreams are a common first trimester thing and not just me. I had some proper whack dreams last night most of which involved trying to take pregnancy tests and failing for various reasons.

Anyone got any good excuses for not drinking? I've not been drinking much for a while as TTC and told people I'd given it up for lent but obviously that won't work after Easter.

I think I'm going to need new bras sooner rather than later but trying to hold off for a few weeks as buying anything this early feels too much like tempting fate.

@MrsStam9 My partner is military too, she's also away M-F on base. Sometimes I enjoy the peace and quiet and other times I miss her like crazy. She's planning to move in full time later in the year though.

MeredithShepherd · 19/03/2018 06:30

So tired today. Took me ages to fall asleep, then when I eventually did fall asleep DS woke me up shouting he’d wet the bed, then I couldn’t get back to sleep again. Then he was up at 5.30 for the day Angry

FruitandNutty · 19/03/2018 06:46

Please can I join? Been reading this thread for reassurance got my first ever bfp last Thurs on Frer, had positive Cbds too last few days showing 1-2 weeks. Glow app puts me at 4+3 today.. and af was due to arrive today or tomorrow. Bricking it as I just want everything to go smoothly, as all of us gals do. Haven’t any bad symptoms just tender bbs, did have some mild cramps yesterday, metallic taste on and off, skin for once no period spots! Should I call Docs today? I haven’t yet...

LastNightsMakeUp · 19/03/2018 07:33

Congratulations @fruitandnutty it won’t hurt to call your GP. I did at 5 weeks and have been booked in for a midwife appointment during week 8.

Slept so much better last night thank goodness. It was actually daylight when I woke up 🙌. 6 weeks today and now worrying about lack of symptoms... I won’t be happy til I’ve got my head in the toilet!

FruitandNutty · 19/03/2018 08:32

Thanks @LastNightsMakeUp I will give them a call today then. Glad you got some shut eye last night. Good nights sleep always a winner!

Did you ladies keep doing tests to confirm bfp? I still have urge to poas as can’t believe it but know it’s probs more stress/money than it’s worth

BadBadBeans · 19/03/2018 10:45

Hi all, I've started a new thread here because this one is only four posts away from being full!

Saraswati · 19/03/2018 10:49

@lastnightsmakeup I know it's hard but try not to worry, one of my friends didn't feel sick once during her two pregnancies and they were fine. Some people are just lucky even though you might not feel like it now.

Nausea has definitely kicked in here, I had hg last time so I'm nowhere near as bad which is stupidly making me worry. I'll never be happy! I think im nearly 6 weeks and 7 weeks plus was especially bad last time, so maybe it'll kick in then.

Working from home because of the snow but mostly googling prams and baby clothes. Starting to feel excited rather than sheer horror Grin

MochiBean · 19/03/2018 11:19

Has anyone else found that their pregnancy vitamins are making their morning sickness worse? I am taking the seven seas ones... haven't taken them yet today and I am feeling so much better than I have been... coincidence?

I'm scared to take them now though...

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 19/03/2018 12:38
