@Expecto I'm no where near a domestic goddess! DH does all cleaning and most of the cooking. Having a newborn is the perfect reason to do naff all (and mines 7mths old now)

StrawberryLemonade · 12/01/2018 12:21

bobcat i would have thought it’s routine to be under a consultant if you’ve had it before! Are you in the UK? Maybe double check with your midwife - unless they’re going to wait and see if you get it again and just refer if so. I doubt there’s anything much the consultant will do anyway other than maybe some bloods every now and then.
BertieBotts I hate needles too but the flu jab was almost painless Smile

StrawberryLemonade · 12/01/2018 12:23

Although if you’re seeing a consultant about the previous tear anyway you can always just ask them about it Smile (sorry missed that bit!)

bobcat85 · 12/01/2018 12:33

@StrawberryLemonade I asked her at my booking appointment yesterday and she said that I would only be referred for OC if I got diagnosed again. At least I'm more aware of the symptoms this time I guess.

SpriteGirl · 12/01/2018 13:19

Oh man @bobcat85 after I had the flu jab I thought surely whooping cough will be the same! Clearly not Sad Grin

I am definitely anxious and my husband who's already had one child is more relaxed and he says first time he was more anxious.

I was telling my Mum about my fears of a MMC earlier this week and her reaction: Confused. She said she never worried about these things when she was pregnant and I said "you didn't have the internet!"

RainbowsAndUnicorns23 · 12/01/2018 13:25

I haven't had flu jab, my mw did say at bookimg appt i can book with the doctors to have it, i didn't even get offered it with my first! Will be having whooping cough definitely tho, altho i also didn't have this with my first as was never mentioned! Is it a recent one? Hes nearly 6.

Got my 12 week scan today, 23rd Jan. Cant wait now!

I am more anxious this time than with my first! But that could be due to the haemotoma found at 5 weeks and a family member had a MC at 11 weeks about 6 months ago 😔

Hortonlovesahoo · 12/01/2018 13:51

Hey girls :) I've already been offered the flu jab because i've got asthma but they didnt seem concerned with the pregnant aspect. I'll check at my scan on Monday.

Another day for Nausea. Had a bit of a rough day yesterday as my DSis who was due at the same as me, had her D&C :'( It's made it all seem very real and very worrying. Luckily, i've not had any bleeding since Tuesday but have been resting a lot. I'm just exhausted at the moment.

Anyone got any plans for the weekend?

I remember a few pages back that there was talk about what prams (or maybe i'm confusing it with another thread?) but I can highly recommend: Out n About. It's an absolutely fantastic pram and we got rid of our expensive pram for this one. It's got a carrycot addition as well as a newborn add in and it's just an awesome pram.

SpriteGirl · 12/01/2018 13:56

Not wanting to scaremonger this is for info only; my midwife told me 30 pregnant women die every year from the flu because there's already such pressure on your organs from growing a baby and it can develop into pneumonia.

Thanks for pram recommendation, off to Google it Smile

YouCantBeSirius · 12/01/2018 14:34

@BertieBotts I found the flu vaccine near painless, I think because the needle is so fine it barely hurts.

Peregrane · 12/01/2018 15:03

Hello fellow August passengers! Technically speaking I should also be keeping an eye on the July thread, as my due date is 1 August. :)

Peregrane - 36 - DC2 - 01/08

I have just got into gear to try and organise a flu jab. Stupidly I missed it when my workplace was offering it!

I had an easy first trimester with DC1. Then by 8 months I was suffering from acute insomnia - I don't mean getting up to pee every hour, I mean getting a maximum of 1,5-2 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period, and that in broken-up chunks as well. And then I had a baby who refused to sleep so I was a zombie for 18 months.

This time around I've had fatigue, constant nausea and heartburn from the go. This has got to mean that I'll have a great sleeper for DC2, right?

Peregrane · 12/01/2018 15:13

Stephiewoo you don't need me telling you this but pregnancy hormones can really play havoc with your mood and intensify your fears. Hopefully your partner understands that too. You sound so self-aware and perceptive, are you able to communicate all this to your partner too?

Expecto, I am also a 9 hr+ person and had an absolutely shit ride with DC1. I don't want to scare you but if you do find it hard to cope with the sleep deprivation, I'll be very happy to share the strategies that got me through it. And it does come to an end, sooner or later... though it could be a lot later than we are trained to assume... but I did get back to my normal self!

ehealy · 12/01/2018 16:33

@Stephiewoo sounds to me like pregnancy depression it's very common. One of my best friends suffered terribly during her pregnancy and post. Get a referral from your doctor it can be treated.

BertieBotts · 12/01/2018 16:47

Fine needle is defo good, I had a finger prick test which was a really fine needle and that didn't bother me nearly as much! I have trained myself to cope with blood tests but still get a bit woozy.

I expected to find newborn sleep hard but I actually found it totally fine, so it doesn't have to be terrible :) Co-sleeping with a sidecar cot definitely helped and it's easy with your first because you can sleep in the day with them too. But then maybe DS was a very easy baby because he would quite happily lie next to me while I snoozed even if he was awake.

LadesC · 12/01/2018 16:56

Strawberry lemonade and bobcat...im a fellow previous OCer too. Am under cons care both cos of that and my age.

Gizzymum · 12/01/2018 18:56

@BertieBotts you had an easy DC1 😜. Mine was a nightmare for 3mths (I'd be lucky to get hour long slots of sleep and would be awake 30-60min feeding and then the 20min hold until he was fast enough asleep to be put down, and repeat). Surely the next can't be as bad??? *runs off to touch wood.

peterpanwendy · 12/01/2018 19:28

Another one terrified of injections here! I am fine with blood taking I actually think I'm quite brave but I'm petrified of injections because I haven't had one in sooo long. I need to book in for my flu jab but been putting it off.

I also have been feeling quite down. My anxiety about this whole pregnancy is sky high, not that something will go wrong more towards the end which I know is still months away. Im also feeling bad about feeling this way, it's a vicious cycle :(

I have my scan tomorrow, will be 10 weeks exactly. Praying everything's ok. I'm sooo nervous. But also so excited.

CumbrianExile · 12/01/2018 19:42

Ds was a very easy baby. Didn't nap a lot in the day but was happy playing in his bouncy chair while I got on with odd bits and loves his sleep at night! Praying dc2 is going to be similar as I love my sleep Grin

Hortonlovesahoo · 12/01/2018 19:42

@Peterpanwendy - I hope the scan goes well tomorrow :)

CumbrianExile · 12/01/2018 19:43

I will mention the itching to my midwife at the next appointment. I do genuinely think it's just my dry skin/eczema playing up, but it's definitely better to get it checked out so thanks for the heads up Smile

milney25 · 12/01/2018 19:50

What a first week back at work, I've been so busy. But at least it's kept my mind off things. I'm feeling so much more relaxed

milney25 · 12/01/2018 19:52

Oops pressed go too soon!

Meant to finish...more relaxed after a scan this week. Counting down the days to the 12 week scan next Friday.

@peterpanwendy sorry to hear you are feeling anxious, maybe the scan will help you feel a bit better. Let us know how you get on!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 12/01/2018 19:53

@peterpanwendy good luck for your scan! I'm 8wks tomorrow and going for a reassurance scan at EPU.

@Peregrane yes please share coping strategies! I need my 8 hours or I cannot function. Also I'm out of practise as my dd is almost 13 and would sleep 16 hours a day if you let her.

Whichoneisit · 12/01/2018 20:36

Evening all,
Good luck to those with scans this weekend.
Finally saw the GP yesterday. Surgery MW called me today and said she’s fully booked for three weeks and i’ll have to go to the local hospital to be booked in next Friday. She will see me at 16 weeks.
Had a few days of feeling almost normal but have hit a brick wall again today. Already tucked up in bed.
We’re going skiing (I won’t be putting my skis on) in a couple of weeks time. Hoping I’ll have more energy by then.

Gizzymum · 12/01/2018 21:53

@Peregrane I'd love your coping strategies too especially incase DC2 is as bad as (or, worse than) DC1 was for the first few months.
Admittedly now DC2 is a relatively easy baby who likes his night time sleeping (*runs of to touch wood again and wonders if it's practical to carry a piece of wood around to touch each time she mentions DC1s sleeping 🤔)

peterpanwendy · 12/01/2018 22:33

Thank you everyone, of course I will let you know how it goes, hopefully with a picture of a healthy little bean.

@TheGrumpySquirrel mines a reassurance scan too :) I haven't had my 12wk scan date through yet :S x
