Having said that (and not wanting to scare any first timers!) your body does just learn to adjust to minimal sleep and you do cope. There’s also something strangely lovely about newborn cuddles in the middle of the night!

My DH complains every day he's tired after work...and like really complains. We have no children 🙈

In a side note, has everyone had the flu jab? Do you need to take anything with you to prove that you are expecting and so eligible?

WaitingforToto · 11/01/2018 19:10

I went to the doctors with the flu the day after I got my BFP @milney25 thinking they would recommend a flu jab ASAP but my doctor just said ‘make your booking appointment to see the midwife when you’re 8-10 weeks and she will give you the flu jab’! My flu lingered for 4 weeks! My booking appointment is next Wednesday so I’m going to ask for it then.

milney25 · 11/01/2018 19:25

At my booking appointment she didn't offer it, just told me I could go and get it and gave me a leaflet. Different areas must have different policies!

SpriteGirl · 11/01/2018 19:50

At my booking in appointment my midwife told me to contact my GP for the flu jab. When I spoke to GP receptionist she asked if I was eligible and I just said I’m pregnant I have to have it. She seemed fine with that and booked me in. My pregnancy is on record with my GP but I don’t think she checked.

Expecto · 11/01/2018 20:04

I don’t know how women do it...sometimes I do think I should have knocked them out in my 20s...had a lot more energy then

StrawberryLemonade · 11/01/2018 20:04

I had booking appointment today and midwife told me to get flu jab ASAP. However I’ve already had it at work due to nature of job, but she didn’t seem to think getting it at GP would be an issue. Had bloods etc done just need to wait for scan appointment now. 10+1 today! Still feel awful though!

unicornfarts · 11/01/2018 20:38

11days to my scan- can't wait! Can anyone tell me what this 'nub' theory stuff is? Only seen it on MN, but no clue what it's about...?!

Gizzymum · 11/01/2018 20:59

My midwife gave me the flu jab last time.

@Expecto Sorry 😳 If it helps I used to need 8-10hr of sleep and managed for ages on less (I now get about 7.5hrs but am woken up about 3 times but only briefly eg to go pee). Plus I'm almost 40...

I think the "nub" is the bit between baby's legs at 12wks and if it's a boy it looks different to if it's a girl. I can't remember the detail....

Expecto · 11/01/2018 21:33

@Gizzy I’m just hoping that my maternal instincts kick in and I become a domestic goddess 🤞🏻

Gem173 · 11/01/2018 21:47

@unicornfarts
The nub theory is the little nub like thing seen at the end of the baby near it’s legs or in between. The theory is, if the nub is pointed up 30 degrees or more the baby is a boy, if it’s lower or down facing then it’s a girl. You will have to look on google images for examples.

I got my flu jab at work cause it’s nhs, had it whilst trying to conceive In the first few months so was worried it would effect things. But it hasn’t :)

SpriteGirl · 11/01/2018 22:31

@Expecto I am fully expecting Mummy power to kick in 💥💪🏼

I take my hat off to those of you suffering the trials of the first trimester whilst looking after another child. You are living proof of Mummy power Grin

Expecto · 12/01/2018 00:58

@SpriteGirl...you’re telling me...I see some women knocking them out every year wondering how they manage? It amazes me 😳

Babydreaming · 12/01/2018 05:49

@spritegirl thanks...I think it’s hard for first timers too though!! I feel more relaxed in this pregnancy whereas first time round there were a lot of unknown things so I think you guys have it equally as hard!

@expecto I saw a documentary about a woman who had 20 children!!!! How is it possible to look after that many? It made me feel a bit pathetic that I struggle to look after my one child! Haha. It’s on 4od if anyone is interested!

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 12/01/2018 06:01

@babydreaming that's funny as I'm far less relaxed this time. First time I sailed through in blissful ignorance, assuming everything would be fine. Now I understand what could go wrong and what I stand to lose.

CumbrianExile · 12/01/2018 07:44

Have to say I am more relaxed this time. I wish I could say that meant I was enjoying it but maybe once the tiredness dies down!

Has anyone else got really itchy skin? I suffer dry skin and mild eczema normally but my skin is much worse and I can't stop itching Angry

StrawberryLemonade · 12/01/2018 08:10

I am definitely less relaxed this time round! I’m being referred to consultant led care due to previous obstetric cholestasis so there’s a really high chance I’ll get that again, and as DD was small when she was born I have to have extra growth scans too. Last time I started off as low risk and was much more chilled. I can’t wait to get the dating scan appointment so I can see baby again and reassure myself that all is well (hopefully)!

RiverRose · 12/01/2018 08:16

Hi everyone. Not posted in a few days as have been busy in work.

9 + 1 today and have my first midwife appointment this morning! I don't think it is my booking in appointment though as she mentioned also coming out to my house on Wednesday? Didn't have a community visit with my first two.

I found the sleep deprivation easier with baby #2 as she was a better sleeper but it does knock you for six for a while!

Babydreaming · 12/01/2018 08:40

I think blissfully ignorant is a nice way to be! I wouldn’t say I’m relaxed this time but my first baby was conceived a month after I’d had a miscarriage so the first 12 weeks I was just convinced I was going to have another one. They then found a problem with his kidney at 20 weeks so I spent the whole pregnancy really anxious.

This time round I’m trying to chill out more! I’m a bit more relaxed that things seem to be progressing as they should and there’s nothing much I can do to change the ultimate outcome anyhow.

OP posts:
Babydreaming · 12/01/2018 08:41

@cumbrianexile you should mention the itching to your midwife as it can be a sign of intrahepatic cholestasis. I’m not sure if you can get symptoms from that this early though! It’s probably just one of those pregnancy things.

peanut2017 · 12/01/2018 08:43

@Stephiewoo it's a new thing for you to be in a supportive relationship so you are probably feeling protective and got your barrier up. Just in case something goes wrong. I always preempt the worst thing that can happen. It's the worrier in me.

Not in the same situation but I've come off meds and it's been really hard. Up and down too. Killing my DH who is really good and supportive. One minute I'm ok and next minute I want to kill him.

Was at my counsellor this week and that helped me a great deal. Hadn't been there since before Christmas. Felt better the next day and slept a bit better too. Do you speak to anyone?

No real words of wisdom other than I get it and you are not mad. Same as you I don't have much support

peanut2017 · 12/01/2018 08:49

@milney25 when I went to the doctor to confirm I was pregnant so was in the early stages and she gave me the jab there and then. Had it on my first too. Didn't hurt a bit or afterwards

BertieBotts · 12/01/2018 10:33

I noticed my legs are itchy and the skin is a bit dry.

I think I'm too scared to get the flu jab :( I've literally never had an injection which wasn't horrendously painful so I'm afraid I don't believe stories that it doesn't hurt! I'm thinking maybe I can just cocoon away and hope for the best.

SpriteGirl · 12/01/2018 10:49

@BertieBotts I am not good with needles at all and put having the flu jab off for a bit but honestly it was the most uneventful vaccine I've ever had.

bobcat85 · 12/01/2018 12:05

@BertieBotts The flu jab is fine it's whooping cough which is not great but you'll be fine. You just have to think the short term pain of injections is nothing compared to the potential illnesses if you don't get the jabs. Plus there's a lot of it about this year.

@StrawberryLemonade I had cholostatus in my last pregnancy too. I'm worried about getting it again but for some reason I'm not under a consultant for it. However, I am being referred to a consultant as I had a third degree tear last birth.

I'm definitely more relaxed this time around. I was very anxious during my first pregnancy but this time I've not really been anxious at all.
