Thread #6 for the chatty mums due in December (or thereabouts!).

As we move into the second trimester there will be more dating scans, gender reveals and burgeoning bumps - and hopefully a reduction in nausea!

Miami did they also test for neural tube defects along with down's? My quad screening came back without Edwards/patau's too and I asked the mw - she said low risk ntd would also be low risk edward's so they didn't bother doing both. I have no idea if this information is correct but she wasn't concerned in the slightest!

Miami81 · 22/06/2017 14:44

Hmmmm
Neural tube stuff was never mentioned! Am in Scotland, not sure what they test for here..... will ask her when next I see her. Ta

ScotsLamb · 22/06/2017 20:30

I'm fed up today. I've been feeling sick all day. Silly first thing in the morning retching then nausea all day until 5pm where I've been sick every 30 minutes. I've hardly eaten anything all day and I just feel miserable. OH has had farm emergency so isn't here and I just feel pathetic. I have so much marking to do and the house to tidy before the cleaner comes tomorrow and I just want to cry.
Anything I can do for sickness? Anything that's worked?

Mrsbluebell17 · 22/06/2017 20:37

So sorry you're feeling so rubbish scots. I've not got anything I can add re the sickness im afraid but I hope someone else on here can help you. Thinking of you.

Congrats maryshelley!!

Zaberwocky · 22/06/2017 20:47

Scots every 30 minutes? How many weeks along are you now? Are you keeping any liquid down at all?

And what have you already tried?

My main concern is you being really dehydrated, especially with the weather. Please don't be so bloody daft, if you feel shit because of pregnancy your cleaner is hardly going to judge you Smile leave her a note (as well as that she may be quite concerned by the smell of sick and presume you have something contagious!) same with marking. I know the pressure is there, but you're going to do a bloody awful job if you attemp it feeling this rough.

MotherofUnicorns · 22/06/2017 21:02

Hi
I'm loving teh name chat! I think the main reason i went for number 3 was to name another baby...
I teach girls so although i have a lot of names at my fingertips i know exactly which ones are far too popular, which get shortened and which are associated with kids in a good or bad way! My eldest is Saskia which i got from teaching 2 saskias!
My second is Thea which i got from a boat in Greece when i was pregnant. Nearly went with Amelie but quite glad i didn;t as it is super popular.
I think we will struggle more with boys names so not discussing until we know which flavour we have... obvs i have a list going on the sly though and all my students at school are suggesting names left right and centre!

ScotsLamb · 22/06/2017 21:04

I'm 13 weeks. Tonight has been the worst. I've been drinking lots throughout the day so I'm not worried about liquids and I had a very calorie led day yesterday.
I've tried everything with ginger. Can't even begin to think about my usual go to of milk. Eating little amounts throughout the day but today has been so bad that I've hardly hadn't anything. Maybe that's why it feels so bad.
Hoping other half brings home bananas as a friend said "at least they are soft coming back up".
It should be getting better, not worse.

ScotsLamb · 22/06/2017 21:09

And the fact I know I'm not going to manage my marking or tidying stresses me out as I'm normally so in control and ready for everything. I feel like every task I do I am only doing to 60% efficiency.

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 22/06/2017 21:09

Wish I could give you comfort but I've not found a solution yet @ScotsLamb 🙁 17+ 2 and I am still getting nauseous, mostly in the afternoons / evenings. Hot flavoured tea helps a little just to take the horrible taste I still have in the back of my throat, but it's not foolproof 🙁

ScotsLamb · 22/06/2017 21:12

I'm not a tea fan in general. I might try some hot squash. Hot drinks are meant to help? Might also give a hot water bottle a go too.

feelingcalledlove · 22/06/2017 21:34

Hope the squash helps Scots Sounds like it would be worth speaking to the doctor/midwife if you can't keep anything down, especially in this heat.

Miami After my scan I asked about the bloods and, although they did do the tests for Edward's and Patau's, the sonography said at that point not to worry because they would have been able to pick something up on the scan for those. So maybe some hospitals don't do the combined test if the scan is clear for Edward's and Patau's?

Mrsbluebell17 · 22/06/2017 22:28

Thinking of you Scots.

I can't believe we're nearly onto another thread already.

Bump is definitely starting to appear properly. Exciting times.

MiniMacComing · 22/06/2017 22:55

Hi Guys... I've not been on here before but read a bit!! Hope you're all doing ok.

I'm 15+1 today - due on 13 Dec...

Dilemma - when should I tell work? Half of me wants to tell them now but I was potentially up for a promotion and decent pay rise at the end of July so wondering if I can hold out til then... what do you think? Is it worth waiting?

QueenEnid · 23/06/2017 07:00

Hi @MiniMacComing! Welcome to the mad house!
You don't have to tell work until 15 weeks before your due date although obviously depending how much you're showing will depend on whether you can keep it a secret that long!
I didn't tell work until 20 weeks last time altho I also didn't find out until 20 weeks! I'm now 15 weeks and will tell them next week when I go back for my return to work meeting

MontyPants · 23/06/2017 07:51

Just had to go and tell off the builders across the road who started banging and moving their diggers at 7:30. In my dressing gown. They probably called me a bitch after I left. But I've just finished a night shift. I can't see myself getting much sleep. DH will have to put up with a very grumpy Monty today!

Brens13 · 23/06/2017 07:53

Just seen that the group due July 2017 are only on thread number 5! Grin
