@gimble I got the bugaboo bee 5, obviously not used it yet, but love the look and feel of it. Main priority for me was size. I needed it to be small to fit in the boot of this sexy motor. I'm not about to give up my car as I've only had it a year and love it, hehe. With the car seat in any passenger needs to be a midget, but it does fit- just.

GimbleInTheWabe · 23/06/2017 00:28

Nice wheels @doomkittycleo! I did have a push of the bee5 in John Lewis and really loved it too. I need something that can be folded up and carried easily and quickly and is good for London/tube life, hence why I went for the bee. I'm seeing them everywhere now too! Can't wait to actually buy it and have it to lovingly stare at before my boy goes in it! Are you getting the bassinet too?

doomkittycleo · 23/06/2017 06:36

@Gimble, I haven't bothered with the bassinet as the size kind of defeats the object cus you have to carry it when the pram is folded, plus it's a lot of extra money when baby will outgrow it quite quickly. I have just bought the cocoon instead which works just as well for a newborn as the bassinet and seeing as baby will be in it a lot over winter when it's small, the cocoon looks lovely and warm.

Cath1212 · 23/06/2017 09:10

there are so much pushchairs out there it can be a bit overwhelming!
I would go somewhere and try out a few - when we did this there were just some which didnt feel right. Also if you have an idea of whats important to you- budget, size, more for city or walking it narrows it down a little
Think we are going to get ours next weekend as had a 15% discount card through our door from a stockist in Surrey

TippetyTapWriter · 23/06/2017 12:20

I admit for ds I just gave up looking at prams and bought the first one in our price range that I liked the look of. Got so overwhelmed! But it's worked really well for us for two years so far (icandy strawberry). Things I'd take into consideration now with a bit more experience are: ease of steering one-handed, size of basket for shopping and the hundred other things you'll end up taking with you, width if you're going to take it on buses, parent-facing seat for when they're smaller but out of carrycot, ease of folding. Currently I'm wishing I'd had the foresight to think about whether it could convert to a double and whether it will take a buggy board!

My midwife hasn't mentioned antenatal courses. Could probably do with a refresher though, especially as I've never actually been in labour so it'll be my first experience of giving birth(had section first time). Do the NHS still offer them to second time mums? Though I'd have to go without dh as there's no one else to look after ds.

Was hoping it'd be cooler after the thunderstorm yesterday but still hot here!

ThatGirl82 · 24/06/2017 10:05

I'm lying in bed and our little one appears to be jumping up and down in there so much that I am sure I can see it moving. However, over the past few days whenever I have told my boyfriend to feel my stomach, he hasn't been able to feel anything, despite it feeling really strong to me?

Does anyone else get this? I wonder if it's just confusing because if you can feel it on the inside you think you can from the outside too? I'll be 23 weeks on Monday.

xflipflopx · 24/06/2017 10:48

I'll be 23 weeks Monday too @ThatGirl82 and in the same boat...this last week I've put my husbands hand to my stomach four times and me saying 'there did you feel it' huge kick to me...to him nothing Confused

doomkittycleo · 24/06/2017 11:05

My DP reckons he has felt it, but Thursday night he had his hand there and there was a proper kick. He was all like, "wtf was that'". I said "that was a kick," lol. Wander what he was feeling before haha 😂.

doomkittycleo · 24/06/2017 11:05

23 weeks and 5 days

boxesoffrogs · 24/06/2017 11:13

23 weeks tomorrow as well thatgirl and flipflop. Think I said that dp has felt her kick a few times, but I've got him to try and have a feel when it feels like she is on a kicking spree, and she suddenly stops. Showing me up already!
Still don't know about these bloody prams!!! Why are there so many??? There should literally be three to choose from, you need a masters in prammery to try and understand all the different features and extras. I like the look of the icandy, but every time I think I have found a model that would suit, I check and they are from 6 months or something else. Argh. Going shopping with one of my (only) mum mates tomorrow, hopefully she'll be able to steer (haha, pun) me in the right direction.
Oh, and can some confirm what car seat compatibility means??? Does it mean that you just need to get a base/adaptor and don't need to get a separate car seat??? Told you - completely clueless! Dp has been studiously reading the expectant dad handbook I got him for Father's Day, and now reckons he is some sort of expert. I beg to disagree.
One more thing, I am getting a second hand cot from another friend, but need a new mattress. Are they all roughly the same size? And does anyone have any recommendations?
They really should do some sort of government issued pack, a bit like Finland, that includes all this stuff. I would willingly pay!

boxesoffrogs · 24/06/2017 11:20

In fact, I give up. Can someone just recommend me a travel system that is relatively light, folds easily, and has a car seat included, suitable from birth and that isn't going to require a remortgage. That's all I want!!
Got myself in a right old flap about this.

TheLionQueen1 · 24/06/2017 13:02

Boxes I have just bought the oyster 2 because it was recommended as lightweight and I drive a tiny little car, and it folds down small!

Mothercare were doing a free car seat with it so I bought the chair, base for car seat and colour pack for £539, didn't bother with the carry cot as defeated the point of lightweight for me! Pics below!

ButterflyGem · 24/06/2017 15:57

Hi all
Does anyone have any recommendations for cotbed/wardrobe sets preferably in white? Thanks

mrsbumblebees · 24/06/2017 16:35

Hi ButterflyGem - I was looking at Mamas and Papas for nursery furniture sets, but managed to pick up a lovely three piece set in ivory second hand on Gumtree for £200 which I was very pleased with - just need to buy a new mattress for the cotbed!

Cineraria · 24/06/2017 17:39

Boxes, I'd recommend www.cotmattresscompany.com/. They make to order so even if they don't have your exact size on their standard list, you can get just what you want, plus pick from loads of options for filling, springs, covers etc. We used them for our BabyBay Maxi co-sleeper (which is curved on one side and straight on the other!), our Silver Cross pram and our Oak Furniture Land cot bed and were really pleased with all of them so will use them again to replace all these three mattresses, plus the icandy carry cot one, for the next baby too. I'm pretty sure he has a better mattress than we do (and from the number of times he's ended up in our bed and shoved me half into the BabyBay, I speak from experience!)

ThatGirl82 · 24/06/2017 17:56

Same due date flipflop!! 👍🏻 Literally after posting my message above, I told my boyfriend to put his hand on my stomach and he felt a couple of kicks! I was so happy he finally felt it, we both had tears in our eyes Blush.

Boxes, we popped out earlier and went to a baby shop with no plan to actually buy anything, and ended up buying a Quinny Buzz travel system! I wanted all terrain tyres so we can go for long walks, and something that is easy to fold and looks good. I really wanted the Uppababy Cruz that they had in as it looks gorgeous, but came to over £900 for everything! The Quinny came to £679 including stroller, carrycot, car seat, car seat base, adaptors and raincover. Seemed to be the best price I have seen for all of that.

Cineraria · 24/06/2017 18:03

It shouldn't be much longer, ThatGirl. I'm 25 weeks and DH can just now play with the baby by rocking his hand on my tummy and the baby goes for the moving bit or maybe the shadow of his hand then he moves it and the baby goes for that place instead. DH loves it! When I was pregnant with my son, I had an anterior placenta so neither of us felt as much and DS didn't notice much from outside until much later when the placenta was high up and his head was downward.

boxesoffrogs · 24/06/2017 21:26

Ah great advice there, cineraria, I will check it out!
And thelionqueen and thatgirl, thanks, I will check out those two! Which baby shop did you go to, just out of interest, thatgirl, there don't seem to be any dedicated ones around here? Although heading to babies r us tomorrow, not sure if that is any good.
I feel there is a gap in the market here, baby planner! Like a wedding planner, but for clueless first time mums like me... now that I've said that, someone is going to tell me it's already been done!!!

ThatGirl82 · 24/06/2017 21:44

Boxes a baby shop just opened near me in Twickenham called Bella Baby, its an Irish company and think this is the first one over here. Babies R Us should have lots of options, or do you have a Mothercare? Re prams I think it depends on whereabouts you will mostly be using it. If you live in the countryside or will be going on walks in parks a lot, then all-terrain wheels are a must. But if you live in a town/city and will be using public transport a lot then you want something not too bulky and with small wheels. Also if you have a car you will want to make sure it fits in the boot when folded up.

I think a baby planner would be a great idea Smile! Every time we go to a baby shop I just feel a bit lost and don't really know what to look for. My friend did send me a list of what she felt were essentials so I am going to put list together using that. I think the only thing you want to try before buying is a pram, I will probably get most things online as it's just easier.

doomkittycleo · 24/06/2017 22:39

@Thatgirl86 www.mamasandpapas.com/medias/sys_master/images/images/h16/h9b/8847260024862.pdf

That list is what I used

Cineraria · 24/06/2017 23:13

Oops, @boxes. I put the wrong link! The company offers a similar service but the one we used was actually babymattressesonline.co.uk. Sorry!

Not sure if it will help anyone feeling confused about what they want as it's quite a specific personal list but I had a spreadsheet for my list the first time I was pregnant, which is here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12Pc2EWXLjKrApPp3rDoraMX7Hn9m06DRpYkxWtv-20I/edit?usp=drive_web. I never finished updating it so most of the links and prices were just examples, not always what I bought. I am doing an updated version for this baby. I can't resist a colour coded spreadsheet for organising stuff!

TheLionQueen1 · 25/06/2017 09:30

Cine** a pregnancy spreadsheet 😮 you sound like my kind of gal, I bloody love a spreadsheet Grin

boxesoffrogs · 25/06/2017 09:36

thatgirl that shop sounds perfect! Might have to venture across London to check it out (although dp has just rocked up after being out all night at a stag do, so he will be in no fit state to be pram shopping, luckily I am going with a friend instead!). There is a mothercare near, but it has quite a limited selection, will have a look anyway and see, find out if there are any deals as good as the one lionqueen found!
cineraria that list is a work of art! I have pinched it for inspiration! Hope you don't mind.
Right, off to get ready to go and be baffled by things. And probably spend an awful lot of money. Oh and bang around the flat making as noise as possible to annoy the drunken/hungover one. I have given him stark warning about the consequences if he does this when the baby is here. In fairness this is only the second time he has done this since we have been together. But my god, he smells like a brewery. Yuck.

TheLionQueen1 · 25/06/2017 09:53

Boxes make sure you speak to staff in mothercare as we saw the pram and the staff member told us that the car seat was free if we ordered online, wasn't advertised anywhere in store so worth checking any offers with them! Have fun!

boxesoffrogs · 25/06/2017 11:35

Cheers for the heads up!
