Aww congrats on positive scan news 👍@boxesoffrogs 💓 Xx

Cath1212 · 06/06/2017 12:08

I have started to make an excel list of all the bits to buy - seems pretty long! Does anyone have any recommendations for baby monitors? There seems to be so many different types - audio, visual, movement (didnt even know they existed!!)

Also, this may seem a bit of a stupid question but when I was looking at baby clothing I was getting in a bit of a muddle
As we are all having winter babies - do they wear a vest and then a sleepsuit on top? and then more layers for outside. Cardigan, blanket or a pramsuit? I want to get out and about but obv want the little one to be warm! In the shops there are newborn and then 0-3 months sizes - how many are people buying of each?!

I have proper first time mum cluelessness!!

SophieGiroux · 06/06/2017 12:31

Congrats @boxesoffrogs! I also had my scan yesterday and am having a girl! Really pleased as wanted a sister for DD as I've always wished I had one. Also means I can reuse all her lovely things!

With regards to clothing, in my NCT classes they said to dress baby with one extra layer than what you would wear yourself. My DD was Nov and she usually had a vest, sleepsuit and knitted cardigan on in the winter. I'd take the cardi off when she went in the grobag.

I really want to buy a next to me crib, not heard great things about the Chicco one so am probably going to invest in the Snuzpod. We coslept last time but will be nice for her to have her own space and maybe I'll sleep better this time! We had DD in with us for about 3 years Shock

SophieGiroux · 06/06/2017 12:34

The Next sale is brilliant for getting all the baby clothes, I got the first years worth of stuff in the July sale last time. Can't really justify it this time but might have a little gander...! Not so bad going at 5am when it's light, could never do it on Boxing Day (plus don't think it's right for the staff to have to work that day).

Think I'm going to get a monitor with video screen. My last one (BT one) lasted more than 6 years.

Cath1212 · 06/06/2017 12:35

I was thinking of a snuzpod - lots of people have recommended a sleephead to me - I wasnt sure if it would fit in?

Thanks for the advice re: clothing! :-)

SophieGiroux · 06/06/2017 13:10

Just did a quick google and looks like the Sleepyhead doesn't fit the Snuzpod. Sleepyhead sounds really good though, I really want one now! I really don't want a bad sleeper this time!

Cath1212 · 06/06/2017 13:37

Sleepyheads do seem insanely popular - must be a reason! But now I need to have a think what I put it in!

mrsbumblebees · 06/06/2017 13:38

I'm glad someone else asked about clothes as I was wondering the same thing! Been getting excited and ordered a few bits and bobs but wasn't sure I was getting the right stuff! But if we can layer up then I guess that should be ok Smile

The sleepyhead was very highly recommend by a friend and I want to try one but I also want a bedside crib and wasn't sure if the sleepyhead would fit. Our room is too small to have the cot in with us.

Cath1212 · 06/06/2017 14:00

from a very speedy look in John Lewis at the weekend - the chicco next to me looked wider the snuzpod

GimbleInTheWabe · 06/06/2017 15:34

We've only bought 2 babygros so far Blush I probably would have bought the whole shop if DP let me but it's nice having a few bits. My friend bought me a little hat/booties/mitts set from the little white company which is totally adorable!
I think we're going to get a cot bed with a sleepyhead inside. Def going to be co-sleeping and the cot will be in with us the whole time as there's nowhere else for it to go in our 1 bed flat! Until we move to our 5 bed town house of course... ~dreams on~

Congrats on happy scan news as well, we need an updated list of whose on which team, I feel like there's loads of team blue but maybe I'm mistaken.

ThatGirl82 · 06/06/2017 16:24

Hi all,

Glad to see all scans etc are going well! I had mine today, baby was being naughty at first and just curled up in a ball refusing to budge until I was instructed to go and have a coffee and some chocolate to wake it up (this made me so happy). That worked so we got to see our beautiful little one from head to toe. We didn't find out the sex, as tempting as it was, we really just want a surprise when it's born. Feel free to guess though!

It's getting so exciting now and I can't stop looking at baby stuff online while I should be working Blush.

Cath1212 · 06/06/2017 16:46

my guess is a boy - but that isnt based on anything! We havnt found out either
mine was the same, had one hand in his mouth, the other behind is head and his feet pretty much over his head in a ball - they had to tip me upside down pretty much!!

ButterflyGem · 06/06/2017 18:51

I've been buying a few bits this last week or so. My husbands cousin has 2 girls 3 & 1 & has said she will give us lots of things like a car seat, jumparoo, bouncers, baby bath & even isofix base, car seat & silvercross wayfarer pram in sand. I think I'll accept her offer & maybe buy a colour pack for the pram once we know the sex. It will save us loads & we're still renovating house to get a mortgage so I need to be sensible on not buying everything new. Plus as its family I think it be fine.
www.tesco.com/direct/motorola-mbp481-digital-video-baby-monitor/109-0625.prd?skuId=&icid=spiffy_motorola%20baby%20monitor_109-0625_motorola%20baby

I got this baby monitor in Friday for £43! It was reduced & a girl I know who works at tesco got me some discount on top, but looking at this link it seems to be full price again.
I'm clueless on the clothes thing too so thanks for the posts, I have lots of people knitting for me as I like knitted cardies etc I've asked my auntie to knit one pink & one blue & ill give the one I don't need to a friend. I know lots of pregnant people at the moment at least 3 all having boys. Secretly I'd love a girl only because I love the name Sienna & am really struggling thinking of a boys name. A boy would be nice especially for my husband he's such a mans man I think he would adjust better to a boy to follow in his footsteps x

mrsbumblebees · 06/06/2017 19:54

We don't mind at all if it's a boy or girl but I know we will struggle more with boys names!! Think we made the right call not finding though out as I'm enjoying the guessing! Smile

TheLionQueen1 · 06/06/2017 20:25

So glad someone asked about clothes as a first time mum I've got no bloody idea!! I've got a snuzpod as we picked up a second hand one very cheap, going to just buy the Asda sheets though as so expensive!

Can anyone recommend a good maternity bra? I'm getting a lot of back pain, tried loads on in m&s today but none felt comfortable, have gone for a John Lewis one but thought you ladies might be able to suggest if anyone has been through this before!

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 06/06/2017 20:32

Thanks for the kind messages, I've been an utter hormonal mess since last Thursday. Had my 20 week scan today and thankfully everything was ok, took a while as she was very active and wouldn't keep still for the various measurements to be taken. Looks like she is taking after my husband like her brothers did, as her legs are measuring very long, almost on the top line on the growth chart (secretly chuffed that she won't be a short arse like my side of the family).

Haven't worked since last week, thinking about trying to work tomorrow, don't know if it's too soon, not sure how you know if you are ready to or not. I would be working from home so wouldn't have to see or speak to anyone but just not sure if my brain is ready to concentrate on it or not, or whether I'll end up staring at the screen and not achieving anything, or worse, making mistakes. Think maybe I'll feel more confident once the funeral is over, as all in a bit of limbo at the moment. No idea what the normal amount of compassionate leave is, never been in this situation before.

PingusMistress · 06/06/2017 22:50

Great news on the scan @Loopyaboutmy2boys .

I've got a snuzpod, it was great with DD although she often ended up in our bed anyway! I was really hoping to get a sleepyhead to go in it this time, so I'm gutted to hear they don't fit. Is that even true for the smallest size one? I presume it must be the length as the snuzpod mattress is the same height as the bed mattress (at least that is how we had it set up) so width shouldn't be a problem.

For clothing, I'd recommend a couple of tiny baby outfits too, maybe second hand if you don't want to spend a lot. DD was 6lbs and newborn size was way too big until about 6 weeks! She had all these gorgeous clothes and couldn't wear them.

ThatGirl82 · 07/06/2017 09:13

Sorry to hear about your dad Loopy. Must be such an emotional time for you. I would say a week compassionate leave is normal for a close family member, but it will depend on your work's policy. Do you have an understanding Manager who can be a bit flexible about whether you manage to do any work?

Cath most people seem to think we are having a girl... it's making me think we probably are but that is totally based on what others are saying. I love the guessing too and last night we finally came up with a couple of girls names we both like, we hadn't agreed on anything but boys names before!

There are other companies that make pillows similar to the Sleepyhead (although that one has been recommended to me too)... Mokee do one and I'm sure I saw a different brand on the Mothercare website the other day, sorry I don't have links yet as on my way to work. Will have a look and post later. The other ones might be a bit smaller and therefore fit in bedside cribs.

ThatGirl82 · 07/06/2017 09:18

Here is the mokee one. My friend has used this company and their products and service are meant to be great.

en.mokee.eu/mini-pod.html

Cath1212 · 07/06/2017 09:44

There are a few people online who seem to use the sleepyhead in their snuzpod
Who knows!
I think I need to wander around John Lewis and try different things in different cribs!!

GimbleInTheWabe · 07/06/2017 22:38

Just thought of a strange symptom and I wonder if anyone else has been getting it.. leg cramps at night?
I used to get these back in my student drinking days where I'd wake up in the night with intense cramping in my calf, probably down to dehydration and way too much vodka in the bloodstream. I've been getting them again and it's def not down to voddy and red bull now! It's sooo painful at the time but eases off if I reach my toes back. Anyone else?!

Baby boy has been growing today I think as I had some bump aches and then a nap in the arvo. He's just woken up and is rearranging his wardrobe in my belly I think.

SophieGiroux · 07/06/2017 23:13

Yes I've been suffering with bad leg cramps @GimbleInTheWabe. Seems to have eased off this week but could hardly walk last week! Think getting severe sunburn on my legs didn't help either! Sometimes eating bananas helps because can be due to low potassium.

TippetyTapWriter · 08/06/2017 07:47

Yep leg cramps in pregnancy is a thing! Totally forgot about it, but I did get them with ds. I think I tried bananas and lots of water. Pulling toes back like you said always helped ease them.

Haven't bought a single thing yet... partly because I don't need anything except a new mattress for the Moses basket and a couple of bottles (will try to breastfeed but it didn't work last time :( and even if it does I'd like to express a feed for dh to do in the evening). Need some winter clothes though like cardigans and thicker sleepsuits. But I guess it makes more sense to wait until the autumn lines are in the shops. I'm also in denial I think! I feel odd looking at girls clothes, so used to shopping just for ds!

Started to feel a bit of stronger movement in the last few days, but very intermittent (anterior placenta not helping I think!).
