Nice to hear everyone's scan news. Good luck to those still waiting.

doomkitty fingers crossed your placenta will move up. So much changes during pregnancy. But a c section isn't so bad. I had one because ds was breech and I'd planned to have a midwife led unit natural-as-possible type of birth, so it was quite a mental adjustment. But a healthy baby and healthy mum is the main thing xx

Interesting to hear a few other people have got anterior placentas. This baby feels so weirdly quiet compared to ds who I seem to remember as wriggling non stop, but maybe that was later on.

Just been sorting through all ds's old clothes to see what's neutral enough for a girl (cue much sentimental reminiscing!). There's quite a bit of white/neutral stuff from when he was little and a friend has promised me her daughter's old clothes so unfortunately I won't have to do much shopping, boo!

PingusMistress · 01/06/2017 20:55

Lovely pic @Corrinax !

@doomkittycleo it is perfectly normal to feel a bit upset when you get told that you may not be able to have the birth you had planned. Give yourself a bit of time to get used to it and remember that the most important thing is that you and baby are safe. I wanted a natural home water birth with my first, with hypnobirthing and yoga and no pain relief. Got to the point where I was about to get in the pool and my blood pressure skyrocketed, I ended up being whisked to hospital in an ambulance and having a ventouse delivery strapped up to lots of machines. Not what I wanted at all and it took me a while to come to terms with that. I felt my body had let my baby down somehow. But I came to realise that having a happy and healthy baby and mummy is what counts, no matter how you get there.

Thanks for the mozzie repellent tip @pollybythesea , I'll definitely get some of that! @Glitterbubble we are going to Cala Galdana, it is a fairly small resort with a nice beach (I hope). We just want a quiet week in the sun, no mad partying!

Glitterbubble · 02/06/2017 09:12

@PingusMistress ahh Cala Galdana is lovely!! I've never actually stayed there, but frequently visit the beach which is sooo nice, and the water is beautiful!!!

The weather was really good when we went at the beginning of May, although the water was a bit chilly! Though that should have have warmed up somewhat for you Grin

JadeLady · 02/06/2017 10:54

Anyone else had a bladder infection/ UTI? I've had two in two weeks! this second one doesn't seem to be responding to antibiotics so far. May have to cancel my holiday to Portugal :(

pollybythesea · 02/06/2017 12:06

My scan is today at 3.30!! Eek! Good luck to anyone else in the Friday scan club!

doomkittycleo · 02/06/2017 12:50

Good luck polly

leannejade · 02/06/2017 13:55

Had my scan yesterday. Had to completely empty my bladder after the letter specified they wanted a really full one, so that was a good feeling.
Baby is looking healthy and growing well, showing us how flexible they are (and also yawning!!). We're having a boy, I'm so excited!

Trytowin · 02/06/2017 14:09

Aww congratulations Leanne and good luck Polly! I'm in the hospital waiting room for my second 20 week scan as baby was not cooperative last time! Roll on 2.30

KitKatSplat · 02/06/2017 14:45

Hey All!

Been a while since checked in, but lovely to catch up with everyone's news!

I'll be 21 weeks tomorrow. Felt the baby moving for the last 2 weeks. Generally feeling pretty good, except the past week I've found myself getting quite out of breath, which leads to headaches, which leads to dizziness. Last bout came on last night and only just now wearing off! Very annoying.

To those struggling to come to terms with revised birthing plans - perhaps I am being too nonchalant, but our bodies are not machines, and neither of our babies. Do I want an epidural? Not really. But I also know I can't fully control what will happen during the birth. Perhaps it will go well, perhaps not. Perhaps I will be in massive amounts of pain and the epi will be the best thing in the whole world. My point is, this is good practice for us to realise that with a baby, you can't control everything. You just make to make a plan and then see how it goes. It doesn't make anyone a failure if mother nature comes along with a massive hammer and smashes everything up.

AsereT123 · 02/06/2017 17:17

Just found this group - hope ok to join your discussion!
First time (40+!) mum and curr 18.5 weeks pregnant EDD 29th Oct.
Been finding it all a 'minefield' of what's ok and what's not - had 2 prescriptions for different medicines - neither of which I will take, as despite being told 'they're safe during pregnancy' - when I read the leaflets, found out they're untested!
Anyway, I too was told at a private scan my placenta is anterior facing - so haven't felt any kicks/movement... but did invest in an Angelsounds foetal doppler scanner from Mothercare - so was reassured to hear her heartbeat yesterday, after becoming a bit concerned.
Anyone else finding appetite sometimes not so great? and/or breast size goes slightly down as well as up??

doomkittycleo · 02/06/2017 17:56

KitKat my disappointment is not purely down to the change of plan (although they assure me the placenta will probably move by the time baby is due), it's actually due to a massive fear of going under the knife.

I'm someone who although as a nurse has watched other people having surgery as a student with no bother, has never actually been in hospital as a patient, faints when having needles and blood tests unless lying down and even has thoughts that there will be a fire in the hospital when I have no feeling in my legs and will be completely dependant upon other people to get me out safe.

Then add the anxieties that the recovery from surgery could make me unable to physically lift anything, make me too exhausted to look after the baby etc and you have one very crazy anxious lady.

mummabubs · 02/06/2017 18:38

That was also my fear @doomkittycleo, and I also work in hospitals! That and I think although we accept that birth is something we have little control over creating a plan gives the comforting illusion of control, so it's difficult when that's taken from you!

Welcome @AsereT123! My appetite is still not so good and I'm 22 weeks, plus although I'm tolerating much more food now than in the first trimester I'm still not keen on lamb (pretty much meat in general actually!) or oven chips?!

GimbleInTheWabe · 02/06/2017 19:04

Welcome @AsereT123! I have also found my appetite has decreased slightly (I'm 22+4), more that I get fuller quicker and will really feel tight across my bump if I eat too much. As with my boobs they grew v quickly in the first trimester so now have plateaued a bit but I'm always when I see them in the mirror - they're massive!! Would love to get properly measured now as I was always a B/C before and I must be at least a DD.

@doomkittycleo do you think counselling might help you with your anxiety? Or practising mindfulness? I have only had anxiety slightly before but I know how all encompassing it can be, talking can really help as well as having practical solutions (like music, breathing exercises etc).

Also congrats on everyone's recent scan success, can you believe how fast the time is going?! I think I saw a Feb 2018 thread the other day!

GimbleInTheWabe · 02/06/2017 19:09

Also thought I'd share my bump progress, first is from 4ish months, second from this week. Would love to see anyone else's if they have one to share!
I think my bump grew so slowly I didn't realise how big i now look. I took a similar one at 12 weeks and I saw it again today and thought wow I look so skinny! (Something I would have neevvverr thought at the time!!!)

October 2017 #4!
leannejade · 02/06/2017 19:35

This is my bump progress. Left pic: 12 weeks. Right pic: 18+5.
I don't feel like grown that much looking at these, but it's definitely more noticeable.

doomkittycleo · 02/06/2017 19:41

Gimble I had CBT last year for my anxiety and it has actually been fine since being pregnant. I think it's just the shock of it that's triggered it again. I have felt a little better by speaking to other people about their experiences over the past couple of days so hoping it's a temporary blip.

I also went on the peri natal and infant mental health training days as part of my job and learned all about what the mental health specialist midwives do, so know they are available if I need them.

I know every mindfulness/relaxation technique in the book as my area of nursing now is children's mental health. I teach those techniques for a job.

Think I just need some time to get my head around the possibility of it and hopefully it won't be necessary anyway.

PingusMistress · 02/06/2017 20:12

Lovely to see the bumps progressing! Mine is not so noticeable if I wear baggy clothes but I'll be showing it off in my bikini next week. I'm still a bit worried that some people might mistake it for cake and pies though.

@doomkittycleo I had CBT for a needle/surgery/hospital phobia which helped quite a lot, but what actually helped me the most was being pregnant last time around. You end up having to face your fears but you do it for your little one. It's still scary though Flowers

Welcome @AsereT123 , we are the same age with almost the same due date! Grin

TheLionQueen1 · 02/06/2017 20:36

I popped week before last all of a sudden! Am 21+3 now

boxesoffrogs · 02/06/2017 22:40

Scuse the mess. This is me at 19+4... just look bloated!

October 2017 #4!
ButterflyGem · 02/06/2017 22:46

This was me yesterday at 21+4 wish my boobs would catch up & get bigger lol you can't tell much if I wear something baggy.

I have the posterior placenta thing too so am hoping it moves & I think I have felt flutters for the last 2 weeks around the same times each day.

October 2017 #4!
PingusMistress · 02/06/2017 22:46

Nice hairdo @boxesoffrogs Grin

I just had a very hot curry for dinner and baby is going bananas! Not sure if that means they love it or hate it!

boxesoffrogs · 02/06/2017 22:49

Thanks pingus, I grew it myself and everything!!! Wink

mmm curry... mine seems to go a bit mad for pesto (of all things!). And also magnums... but that's probably more to do with me!

boxesoffrogs · 02/06/2017 23:07

I've just realised that the pic makes us look like we live in a complete hovel! We don't, I promise!!!

GimbleInTheWabe · 03/06/2017 01:11

Woo! Lovely to see other people's bumps progressing nicely

@doomkittycleo it sounds like you're pretty clued up on it all. Hopefully you'll find something that helps you. I hope I didn't sound patronising as I have no idea what I'm talking about!

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 03/06/2017 05:52

Doom kitty, I would try not to worry, if it moves it moves, if it doesn't it doesn't, some things in life are beyond our control. After my experience having DS1 I don't believe in birth plans. For ds2 there was a chance we might have gone for a vbac and the only thing I'd written down was no forceps as the case from America was firmly stuck in my mind, but he went back to back so we went ahead with the ELCS instead and was wedged in so much that they ended up using forceps to pull him out. Babies don't read birth plans so no point getting hung up on what you'd like. But as someone who has had 2 cs's so far, one a cat 1 emcs under GA, one a calmer one with spinal, I can assure you that breastfeeding isn't affected. I fed DS1 until he was 15 months (could have done longer had I not been pregnant with ds2 by then and all of a sudden I couldn't bear to feed him when I was about 10 weeks, it was uncomfortable to do so) and I fed ds2 until he was 14 1/2 months when one day he just self weaned and refused to feed ever again. Skin to skin doesn't happen straight away as it's not that safe to hold them on the table, one of the drugs they put in you drops your blood pressure but mine is naturally low anyhow so mine fell through the floor and I started trying to vomit, and had the shakes, and one drug felt like razor blades were being injected down my arm (sensation soon passed) so I didn't want to hold ds2 for fear of not holding him enough so DH held him, but it wasn't long until I was moved to recovery and he fed soon after, they don't want a feed when they first come out, it can be a couple of hours or more before they get hungry. So whilst I would never recommend a CS if a natural deliver is a safe possibility they aren't that bad, else I wouldn't be here now, a few months from having a third. The recovery is naff, so debilitating in the early days/first 2 weeks after and you must follow the advice else can split the wound and get an infection so no lifting anything heavier than the baby (so not lifting the car seat with the baby in it) and no sweeping or hoovering floors as the twisting motion is dangerous. It gives you carte Blanche to put your feet up and rest and feed and bond. We have a deal, I do the top end and DH does the bottom end until I'm feeling stronger, and then he still does the bottom end when not at work.

Am 20 weeks today and next scan is on Tuesday. Had week from hell, my Dad died Thursday night, feel so sad that he never got to meet my baby girl. Am a big hormonal mess right now 😭
