Scan for me tomorrow too although not till the afternoon, feeling very nervous! Also going to try and see GP in the morning, I've been feeling a bit grotty over the weekend and feeling paranoid about infections etc... I don't think I can take much more anxiety at the moment!! To top it all I hardly felt the baby move all morning after a couple of days of quite strong kicks over the weekend. Thankfully they seem to have woken up this afternoon and I've definitely felt some strong movements again - just desperate to know they are ok in there! Sorry for the anxious ramble!!

Good luck to everyone with scans tomorrow! Looking forward to everyone's updates x

boxesoffrogs · 29/05/2017 18:32

Good luck everyone for tomorrow!

Getting worried now that I haven't felt much movement... at least nothing that I can actually officially say is movement...

pollybythesea · 29/05/2017 18:34

Hey ping I am self employed too, you can send off your form at 26 weeks and MATB1 should be ready at the 25 week midwife app.

pollybythesea · 29/05/2017 18:35

Good luck with scans this week everyone - mine is coming up on Friday!

Corrinax · 29/05/2017 19:46

@boxes i feel the same am 21 weeks on weds and im not sure if i have felt baby or not 😔

Also is it too early to buy the pram?? X

Rayna37 · 29/05/2017 20:37

Spent some time in the maternity unit this morning after a bit of bleeding on and off over the weekend. All seems ok though. Weird to be on the labour ward, DH and I kept finding things hilarious: all the slightly comical posters and undignified checks. Not very parental of us, but that will either kick in or the comedy will get us through the birth! We're pretty old "grown ups" too!

Rayna37 · 29/05/2017 20:50

Realised I'd weirdly not read the notes from my scan last week but looking at them on the way to hospital this morning I spotted I have an anterior placenta. It wasn't mentioned by the sonographer. Feel better about not having felt much now!

Not having a baby shower, never been invited to one and not aware of any of my friends having had one. Feels like a strangely grabby Americanism (albeit one arranged for you rather than by you) and can't think who I'd invite, not many local friends for that sort of lark and wouldn't expect people to travel. It seems a bit premature somehow, I want the baby safely delivered before I start celebrating anything; happier to see everyone once there's a baby to show them! Though I suppose that way you don't get everyone together which is always nice to do. Also I get the impression they're just for the women which I find a bit weird!

mummabubs · 29/05/2017 21:15

I was told I'd need to submit my Mat B1 form before 25 weeks as HR need it 15 weeks before I plan mat leave to start, so I called my midwife and she's left it at the GP for me to collect :)

Personally I really don't want a baby shower so am actively asking my SiL not to plan me one as she was quite keen as she really enjoyed both of hers! 🙈

Long shot I know... don't suppose anyone else is an NHS employee and considering shared parental leave?? Xx

mummabubs · 29/05/2017 21:22

Oh and @Rayna37 I also have an anterior placenta! I've only started to feel kicks in the last 5 days or so (now 21+2). They feel stronger if they're low down, but they're not easy to feel from the outside yet. Hopefully they will soon as I feel sorry for my husband! Hope you get your first kick soon! X

iemma321q · 29/05/2017 22:13

Good luck to everyone with scans this week.

Trytowin - is it possible to send a pm from the app? Thanks for offering to help me by the way!

doomkittycleo · 29/05/2017 22:20

Corrinax I bought my pram the day after my 12 week scan. Think from Facebook group lots of people have them already. I have actually finished all of my immediate baby shopping, the nursery is finished and I have all of my newborn clothes and my car seat. I even have a large collection of reusable nappies and bottles, baby monitor etc.

It may be premature, but we tried for 2 years and it's the first child in either mine or DP's family for decades.

Got my 20 week scan on Wednesday, not finding out the sex, but kicks are happening more and more each day.

GimbleInTheWabe · 29/05/2017 23:35

I don't think we'll be buying the pram/cot etc until about a month before baby is due but that's only because we live in a one bed flat so space is really at a premium! I already know that we're going to get a bugaboo bee5 though.

As for Mat leave I am also self employed but DP and I are hoping that we can do shared parental leave and that he takes my maternity allowance. I earn more than him and my job is v easy and based at home so it makes sense that I carry on working and he takes my leave as he hates his job and will be leaving soon anyway! That's the plan though, whether it works out is another question!

wapsmahoney · 30/05/2017 09:21

Good luck to everyone who has scans today! :)

mrsbumblebees · 30/05/2017 09:50

Thanks wapsmahoney and good luck to everyone else with scans today and later this week! 3:30 can't come soon enough!!!!

mrsbumblebees · 30/05/2017 09:59

*just to add, I asked DH this morning before he left for work if he wanted to pick me up from home or from the train station this afternoon before going to the hospital. He looked very confused before saying "oh, is your scan today??" Confused

I've only told him about 20 times since we got the letter, and reminded him to book the time off work again and again until he told me to stop nagging! Argh. You've got to laugh I suppose?!

Cineraria · 30/05/2017 10:22

Hope all goes well for those with scans today.

JadeLady · 30/05/2017 15:54

Has anyone else been on a holiday lately? I'd really appreciate your advice / recommendations.
I'm feeling increasingly nervous about going to Portugal next week. What if something goes wrong? What if I get ill while I'm overseas in a strange place? How good is the healthcare over there and will the doctors speak English? Over and over it goes round in my head.
I think I'm being a bit hormonal/irrational and have been trying to stop myself from worrying so much, but beginning to wonder if I should just cancel the whole thing, and stay at home where I feel safe. It would cost us a bomb to cancel at this stage though - at least £500 down the drain. And this was supposed to be our baby moon Sad
Please feel free to tell me being silly and everything will be fine!

Cath1212 · 30/05/2017 16:09

Had my scan this morning - all went well!
He was a little stubborn, curled up in a ball but got all the measurements in the end. Didn't want to find out the gender- prob a good thing as she said it would have been hard to see! Cervix scan was also fine which was a massive relief - hoping at my next consultant appointment they may put me back at normal risk - all fingers crossed
Can't believe how much detail they can see - or how they know what they are looking at
I have felt no movement yet at all and have an anterior placenta - when they show you the placenta on screen you can totally see why their movements are so cushioned
Hope everyone else is doing well and those who had scans went well
I was pretty nervous before mine!
Have held off buying things until now, it may be time to start!

Trytowin · 30/05/2017 16:19

Hi jade

I went to gran canaria in early pregnancy. Maybe try and manage little bits so you feel in control? Buy travel insurance that includes pregnancy and would pay for both you and babe. Carry the letter with you on the way so you 'have' it.

Buy things for the flight (I found flight uncomfortable but it was Ryan air so matchbox like!) So mints for sickness, snacks, dvt socks, good travel pillow etc etc. If you have a bump and belt is too tight ask for extender.

Maybe download a language app if it makes you more comfortable as a just in case but I'm sure you will be fine. Relax, enjoy, have a paddle :-)

doomkittycleo · 30/05/2017 17:05

Jade I have been away twice and was absolutely fine. Take your maternity notes with you and don't eat anything dodgy, make sure you have insurance and you'll be fine.

pollybythesea · 30/05/2017 17:24

Hey jade you'll be absolutely fine! We went to Greece when I was 16 weeks, it was so good to get some sun & relax. Like others say as long as you have good insurance you'll be taken care of if anything should happen by chance- just gotta get yourself there and you'll have a great time Smile

TheLionQueen1 · 30/05/2017 18:54

Jade I've just come back from a week in Cyprus at 20 weeks, took my maternity book just in case, and also took my Doppler in case I was worried at any point, but then baby was kicking away all holiday so knew it was fine! Just make sure you get up lots on the plane, drink plenty of water and stay out the sun during the hottest times, watch what you eat and make sure you have notified your travel insurance! Have a lovely time, enjoy it while you can without the baby in tow!!

greentreeseverywhere · 30/05/2017 19:45

@jade Im the same and same destination but in 2 weeks time!! I found treating myself to some new swimwear made me feel a bit better Grin

ThatGirl82 · 30/05/2017 20:11

Lovely to hear of more positive scans. Mine is next Tuesday so feels like still a while to go. I have some movement but I'm still not confident when I feel it that that's what it is!

Does anyone else have heartburn? I've had it on and off the past few days and it's really uncomfortable. Think I need a Dr's app to see what meds I can take unless anyone knows of anything that is definitely safe?
