Not - don't know if it's any use but the place we buy our carpet sells remnants. Basically bits that are too small to sell most people but really useful if you want to carpet a tiny room and often quite cheap!

Notyetthere · 04/03/2017 23:53

Blue we have decided against getting a new one now. Being the box room by the time we have the cotbed, chest of drawers and a small chair in there you won't see much carpet anyway, that is the compromise we have made. But yes, we did see a few of these remnants knocking about, the only problem was that none were in the dark grey that we wanted. We are very pleased with the sofa though. We spent 3.5hrs agonising about the more expensive dfs sofa with a similar leather one in harveys 2 doors down. I think when we bought our current 6yrs ago, we couldn't have spent more 15mins deciding it was the one and instantly regretted it 2 days after it was delivered. This time we read reviews on both, talked to both shops about the type of leather used, recline options and generally sat in both for atleast 20 mins. We bought from harveys as dfs couldn't justify the £1500 difference in price. Hope we made the right choice. Even after 3hrs it is a leap of faith with sofas. Hope we don't end up sinking into it within a yr; that will be the start of backaches.

Now back to bsby things. Rumour is that Uppababy 2017 will be released towards end of April. Our old car doesn't have the isofix clips so we will have to practice the seat belt harnessing to ensure we can do it properly every time. We plan to have about 8 sleepsuits and 8 bodysuits (we already have these) for baby's 1st few days clothes. We haven't decided yet so maybe a couple of new born sizes and the rest in 0-3months. We shall buy the rest after baby is born. At the moment we have something for baby to wear, somewhere for baby to sleep (snuzpod in the loft), a few muslin for baby sick/blanket/swaddling and a pack of nappies in sizes 1, 2 and 3. All we need to decide on is how baby will be fed- breastfeeding is 1st choice at the moment but maybe have a couple of bottles just in case? If I am to get bottles then it will be phillips. My brother is 17yrs old and I remember him having phillips bottles as a newborn and they worked very well at the time so I intend to stick to what I already know. Also another thing will be the carseat- we already know that we will get the maxi cosi cabriofix but we will get it closer to due date so that we don't eat into warranty period before baby is here. I think that is all we need for baby's arrival. The rest we can get afterwards. Even the pram can be bought after baby's arrival since a friend gave us a sling. I feel better now having typed it out like that. Sometimes I feel like we are running out of time when really we are at only 2wks!

Not, regarding Uppababy, I did check it out as the US have already released them (check out the US site). Cruz has new lovely fabrics, slightly improved UV extendable hood, and that's it. Vista will have more changes being slightly narrower and lighter. Re carpet, I decided against that. Going with our wooden floor and putting a rug in because i foresee many accidents in the room which would end up in stains Confused.

natienka · 05/03/2017 06:43

Also nappy advice that i got was to get a couple small packs from different brands as baby may not like some. So i think I've got 5 packs which should see us thru a few days. Before due date though I'm going to join a nappy library where you can learn and try our cloth nappies. I'd love to be able to use these!

natienka · 05/03/2017 07:15

Nananaaa definitely no more sleep dor me today... So, in addition to cloth nappies i came across reusable cloth baby wipes that can be used for anything from face to bum (to removing make up for me apparently!). I'm really tempted by these, to limit waste but also a lot of opinions state these are more gentle. Anyone used these? www.cheekywipes.com/baby-wipes-kit/baby-wipes-kit.html

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 05/03/2017 08:48

Nat I've just received an order of cheeky wipes, got them in Feb when I got 5 free wipes with every £15 so I've got about 50 wipes all together and got the starter kit. We couldn't agree on nappies so this is our current compromise!

Notyetthere · 05/03/2017 09:12

Nat it took me sometime to convince dh that we should not change the carpet as baby will probably ruin it. We can always change it when baby is older. I had actually relented and let him do what he wanted. The price did the rest for me. He realised that at that price he would always be edge about any sick/stains. Re- nappies, yes you are right, we bought only a pack each of a few brands during the supermarket baby events. Sil also gave us her leftover asda size 2 as dn didn't like them. So we have a selection of brand and own brand ones to see how we get on. We have done the same for wipes. A few packs of 4 brands including tesco's own. Prams - We looked at the US website last month and that is how we knew about the newer version. We are set on the vista instead of the cruz as we are slightly out on the edge of town and we normally go off road so we need the big wheels. Also the fact that baby sits quite high up and the handles are very high as well. Dh is over 6ft. Dh likes the new leather tan handles! The fact that the 2017 is lighter and narrower is a bonus.

Morning all, just checking in, have been quietly following along for a while as I managed to lock myself out of my account and only just managed to reset it!
I'm now 21 weeks and bump is a little girl so just starting to think about sorting the nursery and buying things!

Not we were pretty set on the 2017 vista so went to the baby show yesterday to talk to an uppababy rep. We ended up buying the icandy orange but uppababy said 2017 vista should be released here in spring - no confirmed date yet.
They had 20% off the 2015 vista at the show though, so we were very tempted to buy that and just add on the leather handle bar and new wheels when available. Might be something to consider if you can get to any shows near you x

jld128 · 05/03/2017 12:23

hey all i just posted a thread in the main forum but though i'd ask in here what's your thoughts on eating liquorice? i'm 21weeks and just ate some for like the first time ever and i'm a bit worried :(

DrewOB0 · 05/03/2017 13:07

From NHS website Liquorice

You can have moderate amounts of liquorice sweets or liquorice teas in pregnancy – there's no recommendation to avoid them. However, you should avoid the herbal remedy liquorice root.

jld128 · 05/03/2017 13:08

Thanks Drew :)

natienka · 05/03/2017 15:57

Hi All,

Not indeed, I was on edge for like two years after putting our lovely cream wool carpet in the bedroom, and that's considering only my own clumsiness!

I definitely like Vista too, I'm just quite petite and it looked too big for me, but it is more versatile with the added second seat option. Cruz seemed much more manageable in our tiny Victorian passageways and for moving about and transport.

The fabrics definitely sound interesting but since I was set on a second hand buggy, I thought it doesn't make sense to wait as it would take a year until those would appear! Only reason to buy new for me was warranty, but the prices at which we got the preloved ones... I bought the 2015 Cruz for £56 and a carrycot for £0.99. I kid you not, hubby felt so bad he said he won't be picking up a carrycot for this much as it looked brand new, so we gave the lady another tenner! Still was a steal... I'll be buying a new hood as I want colour (either strong yellow or navy, can't decide), and was considering a new seat too but actually I want a lambskin liner so not sure there's a point...

Hi Baker and wounded :) And thumbsup what do you think of the Cheeky Wipes now? They have an offer of extra 15 for every £35 so it would be pretty similar. I think a kit sounds most comfortable though some people say you can just use any Tupperware, but I kind of can't be bothered to test others out...

Also hubby felt the bubba today, yaaaay! Exactly 21 weeks. I think maybe it's a bit quicker second time round as you can make out more quickly what it is (and that it's not just gas or something Grin

wildone81 · 05/03/2017 18:58

Anyone else wondering how many layers you're supposed to put on a newborn in July, and if they'll need cardigans and hats for in the hospital and journey home?

I was thinking short sleeve vest for on the ward, with maybe a sleep suit or footless sleep suit if it's not as stupidly warm as everyone says it'll be, and then just a lightweight blanket over baby in car seat coming home?

I'm in Scotland, so there's no guarantee it'll be scorching, but it might still be warm enough for us to be wearing shorts and vests....

Bawbles · 05/03/2017 22:34

Wildone I was thinking to take sleepsuits for coming home with a lightweight cotton hat and thin cardi if needed. Will pack a muslin or thin blanket.

I'm reusing bugaboo cameleon from dd, set it up yesterday to check it over and surprised at what good shape it's in. We have ordered new covers for it, new mattress and wheels.

I've also got all DD white company sleeping bags, hooded towels, newborn clothes, bibs and muslins so can't justify buying much new.

We've bought a new changing bag, snuzpod, bedding, a video monitor, Ewan the dream sheep and a mobile.

I think we've just got to pick up the sleepyhead and get a baby bath and that covered the essentials

I'm half tempted by the cocoonababy too but that seems like overkill when we are getting a sleepyhead

DrewOB0 · 06/03/2017 07:03

It's 20 weeks scan day! :D

rhodes2015 · 06/03/2017 07:13

Good luck drew!!! Enjoy! X

natienka · 06/03/2017 09:24

wildone I definitely do think about it, worried about the weather etc... to be fair where I'm originally from (Poland) people go the other way than England, newborns are always dressed and in hats etc even in summer... so I need to find a way in between I feel comfortable with!

For the hospital I plan to have short sleeve vests, long sleeve sleepsuits, a light cardi, a blanket, light hat and mittens, obv some diapers - and use as and when needed. In the hospital itself it's probably going to be very warm; it's more about taking the baby outside for the first time, I'd rather be safe than sorry, and they're not going to overheat in the few steps from hospital door to the taxi!

Spindelina · 06/03/2017 10:07

Good luck, Drew!

We had a sort out of clothes yesterday. In newborn size, I've got plenty of short sleeved and sleeveless vests, some babygrows, a light hoody/cardigan thing, and a couple of hats. For hospital, I'll take some vests, babygrows, the hoody and a hat, and see what the weather does.

DrewOB0 · 06/03/2017 11:49

I'm back!
We're having a very obvious boy :) all good otherwise but no photos as he just wouldn't turn.

LuciBee231015 · 06/03/2017 13:13

Ahhh congrats on your baby boy Drew! 💙

rhodes2015 · 06/03/2017 15:07

Notyetthere · 06/03/2017 15:59

Drew congratulations on the baby boy. Glad the scan went well.

Congratulations on the scan drew. We went for our scan today to. All looking good. Measuring perfect. Nothing wrong at all. As soon as I saw the ultrasound i had tears streaming! I was convinced something would be wrong, measure not what it was supposed to etc. DH, who is not emotional at all even had wet eyes. Just got to wait another 20 weeks to see them properly now. We don't know if it's a boy or girl, but can start getting excited and buying things now!
