I meant that when my brother had I must have been about 22 yrs old not 2yrs.

OK enough feeling sorry for myself. I ought to assume it's just a precaution and that I will be OK. Luci lol. That sounds familiar. I have also been doing the same thing every payday. Last payday I went to next, mothercare and boots and got a few things. Then a massive shop at ikea for furniture and then a trip to b&q from decorating items. All on payday! It has now gone very quiet till the next one on 10th March. I will buy the cotbed and mattress then. Just the items will wipe out this month's budget but I have wanted this cot bed since I saw it so savings will have to be made else where.

Not what a worry. I agree with the others, I would rather be consultant led with them keeping an extra eye on me, and will more than likely be all over nothing. I would be worried too though. Fingers crossed for you that everything is ok, and you are not a bad mum, how were you to know! 💐

Notyetthere · 01/03/2017 08:51

Anybody started to think about nurseries? I was stalking(as you do Grin) the Due May thread and some of them have already been told that they might be too late to get any places for 2018! One of them even had the waiting list booking fee waived bse the nursery knew it was impossible there would be a place for their dc when required next yr. I think she was near Leeisham/Blackheath with only 3 nurseries that are within walking distance to the station. Looks like if you are in London then places will be competitive.

OP posts:
Spindelina · 01/03/2017 09:32

We've signed up for nursery and paid £25 deposit, but that's partly because we want this DC to go to the same place DD went to so it's easy.

When we were choosing for DD, we did the rounds when I was about 24 weeks - figured we'd have more time and headspace before the birth than after! And actually our decision was easy - the nearest nursery to our house is fab.

The ofsted website is a good place to find nurseries, btw, even if you don't put much faith in their judgement. We also got a list of childminders from our local council, but went with a nursery in the end.

LuciBee231015 · 01/03/2017 10:42

Yep we signed up to a nursery last weekend, to start April 2018. They will call us 3 months before start date to confirm our place and take payment etc apparently. We didn't have to pay the deposit as it was an open day and they waived it for people signing up that day.
I had no idea I should be looking until a lady in my yoga class mentioned it!

Was an easy decision for us too. There is a nursery attached to the school where DH works, which is just 5 minutes from our house. Recommended my friends who's children have been there and also other teachers in DH's school who's children go there, ofsted report is really good too!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 01/03/2017 10:43

You all have me panicking about nursery places now! Are you all in London? I don't even know if I'll be going back to work yet so no idea if I need to get something in place.

Notyetthere · 01/03/2017 11:02

Thumbs I am in kent and I wasn't thinking about it either. We are in commuter town about 30mins on the train to London Bridge/Cannon Street so I can assume that places might competitive at the nurseries near the station. We live near a Junior school which has a nursery attached to it, I will start with that one as we want dc to go to this Junior school.

rhodes2015 · 01/03/2017 13:43

Oh not what a worry, glad they are keeping an extra eye on you though! X

I only got paid on Thursday and I'm already a bit skint now until next payday! We ordered carpets yesterday for delivery a week on Saturday. I have my cotbed wedged in my hallway in the box, mattress comes this Saturday and ordered some mamas & papas bedding on Sunday from their spring event.
I actually have other things to buy that are more important and that I will need sooner (cat seat being one!) but we tend to buy things in what's most fun to buy Grin so they will have to wait until next month. Hopefully her room will be done after next weekend though then I can get my house back in order!

I know which nursery I want her to go to but I haven't actually rang, just had a nosey at prices on their website! Maybe I should give them a ring 😬

TinklingTheIvories · 01/03/2017 14:45

I'll have to think about nurseries. There's one at the college I work at so that'd be ideal. If not there's one in the village I'm moving too.

Finally got a moving date. Friday/Saturday!! Eek!! So much to do in no time! Have cancelled everything in the evenings to make sure we're packed! Scary that it's suddenly so close!

Notyetthere · 01/03/2017 15:47

Rubbish! The nursery 2mins walk from our house is only open 9am-3.30pm. That is not useful for us as we would need to start at least 8am and pick up at about 6pm.

I picked up the antibodies at lunch from the hospital so about to go to gp surgery for a shot in my arm. Poor arm, it has been poked about so many times in the last few months - flu jab, booking bloods took 4 times before blood appeared, whooping cough which hurt for 3 days after. Now it looks like there was 4 doses which got me thinking that i might have to go back for top ups.

OP posts:
rhodes2015 · 01/03/2017 15:58

not still feel like I've been punched hard from my whooping cough jab on Monday!
That is really crappy times!!
I need to test the waters with my mum about childcare. I would like to do mornings in nursery (next street to my mums) then my mum could pick her up and have her for a few hours (approx 3hrs) in the afternoon. I think she's keen to help out (she's already bought travel cot/changing mat and other bits to keep at hers and said stuff in passing that makes me feel that she actually assumes she's having her) but I just need to actually ask the question as I'm not sure what's reasonable and I don't want to put on her too much!

Twixes · 01/03/2017 19:30

I feel for you Not. What a stressful time but as others have said thankfully they're monitoring you really closely now. Keep busy with buying bits and getting organised, anything to keep your mind off things!

I haven't a clue what to do about crèche/nursery, the one we have DS in is €1000 a month (I'm in Ireland and to be fair it's a state of the art place) but having two in there would bankrupt us! Think I'm going to have to figure something else out, childcare is shockingly expensive here ...

Lallypopstick · 01/03/2017 20:29

I'm panicking about nurseries now! Off next week so might have to make some enquiries.

DrewOB0 · 01/03/2017 20:34

5 days /week nursery would set you back at least £1600 a month where I live :(

bluebird1235 · 01/03/2017 20:53

£1600/month?! Shock

DH and I are both self employed and are hoping to tag team completely. We both tend to have massively busy times and then very quiet times so hopefully we'll be able to plan it right and not both be busy at the same time. At least that's the plan!!

Notyetthere · 01/03/2017 20:54

Drew yes that is the same ball park in our area. We actually only want 1 day a week at nursery so that baby has some interaction with other children. Also give DH a break to do whatever he likes. DH works shifts so he will be the one with the flexibility to get shifts around child care. He might even switch to just 3 nights a week.

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 01/03/2017 21:06

The bloody antibodies had to be injected in my butt cheeks. My oh my that hurt. There was so much liquid that the nurse had to prepare 2 syringes. And then she had to inject it very slowly so about 45secs in each cheek. I limped all the way to my car and by the time I was in I was in tears. There was about 4 kids at the gps waiting room; I sat as far as I could from them and I think I literally held my breath till the nurse called my name. I now have a fear of all kidsGrin; worried about what they might be carrying. I don't fancy anymore shots in my butt that's for sure. That was very painful. Now the wait starts.

OP posts:
Spindelina · 01/03/2017 21:07

The going rate round here is £50-£55 per day. DH is a SAHD, but we've decided that two days a week gives him sanity space, time to spend with DD, and time to do other stuff. And we think DD benefitted from the social aspect and the opportunities to do things (mostly messy things!) that we wouldn't do at home.

Spindelina · 01/03/2017 21:08

Ouch, Not!

Seahawk80 · 02/03/2017 04:09

Sorry not that sounds like a really scary time. It's good that you are getting extra care though. As others have said hopefully it's a bit of a fuss over nothing but at least you'll have extra support and scans. That's the way I try to think about my extra heart and growth scans because of my crappy bloods at 12 weeks.

Seahawk80 · 02/03/2017 07:35

Has anyone else considered a bugaboo bee? Every time I google best London buggy or ask friends for reccomendations it comes up but I never hear of people on here buying one. Is it just the price that puts people off? We've been really lucky with being given almost everything we need so we have enough spare cash to consider it but I worry that there's a reason not many people get it!

In other news I feel like I suddenly look really pregnant. I don't know if it's just co incidence or if it's relaxing on holiday and wearing summer clothes!

Spindelina · 02/03/2017 07:58

Loads of my old school friends have bees and love them. Was never on our shortlist because they are crap and stairs and not great on cobbles / uneven pavements etc.

LuciBee231015 · 02/03/2017 08:29

I'm doing 3 days a week at nursery and it works out £750 a month... ouch. Literally have no choice though.

Ive got midwife tomorrow, going to ask her about whooping cough jab as I haven't had it yet and I'm 24 weeks tomorrow. Will ask about movement tracking as well.

bluebird1235 · 02/03/2017 08:40

My midwife mentioned whooping cough vaccine at my appt yesterday (21 weeks) and said you can have it any time from now so I don't think you've missed your opportunity... though from what others have said it doesn't sound very nice!
