I'm 31 weeks tomorrow 😱 and have my midwife appointment mid morning. Always look forward to them even though I'm in there for literally 10 minutes! Can't believe I'm in the 30's already!!

ButterflyFree · 20/04/2017 17:07

Glad you and baby are alright @MamaTT 💐 that must have been quite a scare though.

Thank you @mynameisntLinda I'm very reassured to know I'm not the only one taking a laid back approach! I might try and get my hands on that book to read since it's my first time; thanks for the recommendation.

Forgive my ignorance (again!) but what's this 'antiD' that keeps popping up in recent posts...?! It seems there are quite a number of differences between what is done as standard here in Dubai compared to the UK, for example here the GTT test is required for everyone regardless of BMI and glucose levels in urine samples (diabetes is quite an epidemic in the UAE), whilst the whooping cough vaccine isn't available here at all, so I'll have to wait and get it done once I get to London.

rhodes2015 · 20/04/2017 17:15

luci I look forward to them too. I dont know why Grin
I had my health visitor come to my home today. She was really lovely!!

glitterglitters · 20/04/2017 17:18

@ButterflyFree it's if you are a negative blood group. It's to protect the baby if they have a positive blood type, I think (and I'm no phlebotomy expert so I could be wrong) that the antibodies and white blood cells can view the baby as an intruder to the body if they are positive (like a virus etc) and can attack the baby.

I could be totally wrong though. I know that my mum had to have them as she was AB- and I'm O+ x

mynameisntLinda · 20/04/2017 17:31

What she said ^ haha
Rhodes that's nice that you've met her already. I didn't meet mine until after birth and then it turned out she went to school with my dad and they'd all just been on a big pissup reunion #awkward
I moved in julynand I don't think thebhealth visitors have passed on info so my son's not had his 2 year review yet so ive no idea what the hv are like here. Seems very luck of the drawer if you get a good one or not from what I've heard before. Hope I get another nice one

nat2311 · 20/04/2017 17:43

I'd never heard of the anti-d injection and
Didn't know you could get lie flat car seats! Learning everyday on here!

Had mw today 28+1 and bloods have come back
that I'm anaemic so gp is prescribing iron tablets. I've been pretty tired but had been putting it down to being 28wks pregnant! So hopefully will gain some energy again!

Lallypopstick · 20/04/2017 18:25

TinklingtheIvories I love your mural. Really enjoying the nursery posts on here as ours is still a bit of a dumping ground. I'm worried about papering it as I get more and more pregnant - surely I can justify a decorator?!

Luci how exciting to be in the 30s. Does it feel real? It feels like 30+ is a real milestone.

On car seats, I think I'll just avoid using mine as a pushchair and be sensible about any super long journeys (though I'm not likely to do anything much more than 1 hour initially). Also, a few mums have warned me about letting them sleep in the seats, so although it will pain me to lift a sleeping baby out of a car seat, I think it's the right thing.

Seahawk80 · 20/04/2017 18:25

You're right @glitterglitters - also it protects future babies - you get one at 28 weeks, one after the birth (if baby is positive blood group) and one anytime you have a bleed or a fall. Fun times

rhodes2015 · 20/04/2017 18:25

@mamatt glad all is well that must have been really frightening. Just read that you had treatment for precancerous cells, I had 2 treatments for stage 1a cervical cancer so had transvaginal scans every 2 or 3 weeks from 17weeks but not had an issue with anything so far. Hoping no more scares for you and Rest up x

ButterflyFree · 20/04/2017 18:45

Ohh thank you so much @glitterglitters and @Seahawk80 for the explanation. No wonder I haven't heard of it then - I'm O+ !

Definitely learning a lot from this thread (I didn't know there were lie-flat car seats either 😅) and I feel the need to double check everything that crops up on here which I haven't heard mentioned by my healthcare providers in Dubai, because clearly there are a few differences. So thanks all for your continuous help and enlightenment! 💐

LuciBee231015 · 20/04/2017 20:34

@lallypopstick it is starting to feel real now. 9 weeks left until due date, 8 weeks left at work!! Trying to stay calm as I have a tendency to worry about everything!

Kitsandkids · 20/04/2017 21:17

I would like to take my foster children (and baby) to stay with my mum in the summer holidays and she's a 6 hour drive away so we'd need to stop a lot! And there's a family Christening coming up in August as well that's 3 hours away. So a lie flat one would be better. I really like the look of the Britax Baby Safe Sleeper but I didn't realise they were stopping making them! Hopefully I'll be able to find one. It literally will just be for the car - I've got a traditional Silver Cross pram so the baby will have plenty of room to lie flat in that when we go for walks!

mynameisntLinda · 21/04/2017 08:26

@LuciBee231015 oooo a work count down! I've not even given work a date for when I plan to finish yet. I handed in my MatB1 yesterday.
I'm gonna work right up to the day I give birth if I can. Had to use holidays last time and I went a week over due and 3 weeks off before the birth was boring as hell!! Also means the later I work the longer I get off next year, and the longer I can avoid paying for 2 in childcare the better! £1300 a month for 4 days a week childcare is going to be a killer

DrewOB0 · 21/04/2017 08:34

Hello all! 26 weeks here :)
Has anyone's morning sickness restarted? I feel rough this morning :(

Spindelina · 21/04/2017 08:59

After today, I've got 47.5 work days left (11 weeks, two bank hols, and 5.5 other days already booked off for various things).

I've also got the option to take up to another 10 days annual leave between now and stopping, or I could use them to start getting paid two weeks earlier when I come back at the end of Jan.

I'm already using most of my allowance from this year so that I'll do two days in Feb and March (while getting paid for five - result!).

Considering taking one day in each of the last few weeks so I can do short days (four days spread over five - sort of the opposite of compressed hours). I'll see how it's going.

mynameisntLinda · 21/04/2017 11:29

@DrewOB0 mine never truly completely dissapeared but i've found that recently it's more triggered by food or not eating often enough so it's manageable. certainly better than last preg when I was throwing up every day from 5weeks to 41 weeks. Hope you're feeling less ropey now!

Spindelina 4 days sounds like a good plan! That's how i did my return to work. I had like 7 days rolled over so my first month back i did 3 days a week and then 4 day weeks and then permanently stayed on 4 day weeks. i'll have about 10 to roll over I think so i'm going to try and roll them all over until I come back in April, then i'll also have all of next years to take which will be another 15 days :) Might have a last min holiday before I return to work.

Spindelina · 21/04/2017 11:41

I dropped to 4 days when I started a new job at 25 weeks pg last time round, and stayed that way when I went back after mat leave. DH dropped to 3 days when I went back. Then he sort of got made redundant and I got a full time permanent job, so here we are with me being the money earner and him being a SAHP.

Kitsandkids · 21/04/2017 12:22

I'm 30 weeks today and suddenly feeling it! The older kids are out with a relative so I popped into town for a couple of hours then went with my husband to a retail park because he needed something there. We got to the till and my feet were suddenly killing! So I'm waiting in the car while he finishes up!

Notyetthere · 21/04/2017 13:03

I have just counted 38 days of work left before maternity leave. I have taken out weekends and bank holidays.

DH is also planning to take the whole of July off with 2wks paternity leave and 2wks annual leave. I will take maternity leave for 6 months and tag all the accrued leave at end of maternity leave which should give me 7 months off altogether to full pay before I return to work end of January.

Spin DH will take 6 months SPL from mid-Dec so we shall have a month's overlap which I think will be nice. DH will then go down to part-time afterwards to work around childcare with me being the main money earner of our household.

OP posts:
Seahawk80 · 21/04/2017 13:29

I'm currently in the middle of working 6 days in a row but once I'm done I'll only have 30 days left! I'm finishing at 37 weeks as I have so much holiday and I know they won't let me go overdue more than a couple of days so I thought I'd enjoy a week extra on my own. Hopefully the sun comes out!

Spindelina · 21/04/2017 13:30

We should have the first six or so weeks all together, with DD off school so no-one needing to be anywhere in particular. Looking forward to it.

Has your DH got the go-ahead to drop his hours? I work in the NHS, where part time is absolutely normal and almost expected, but one of my colleague's DHs wanted to drop his hours in retail and didn't get it, which was a bit crap.

glitterglitters · 21/04/2017 13:54

Loving all the dads doing spl and sahp!! Dh would love to do it but even though I've got the potential to be main breadwinner my work can be so sporadic it's just not feasible. Plan is to clear the mortgage by 38 (so 6 more years) and then reassess. His work is quite flexible though so he should get the paternity leave, rosta worked out so he can have 6 weeks off full pay though which is fab 👌🏼

Notyetthere · 21/04/2017 14:36

Spin DH is also retail like your colleague's but where he works it seems to have been done by colleagues in the past. He has also had a chat with his Manager and regional manager and they all have given an indication that it will be possible. He is a store manager but plans to down a level or even switch to three 12hr night shifts altogether since I work 9-5 so I could be with baby in the evenings.

Glitter yes I am very pleased about the SPL thing! It has evened things out for many households now. Women are just as well educated with successful careers as men and now more and more households out there have the woman as the significantly higher earner compared to the man. I love my job and it is relatively stable as long as no major collapse happens on my watch and I am found to be negligent thus I get the sack . Which is why DH is happy for me to go back to work and he will be the more flexible one to keep home stable and be the primary carer for our babies.

OP posts:
Spindelina · 21/04/2017 14:53

I'm actually really excited for all the men that now get the opportunity to be primary carers. It's so much more my DH's thing than mine - I'd be permanently on the Gin but he loves it and is bloody good at it.

Notyetthere · 21/04/2017 14:54

Glitter wow @ clearing the mortgage before you are 40! I would love to do that but even on my decent-ish salary, I don't see how we can clear circa £200k in 7yrs! Not without making so many cut backs that we would live an extreme frugal life. We are not extravagant in many ways but enjoy small comforts - good whisky, 1 holiday per yr and we eat relatively well (like not cutting back on protein).

Mmm something to definitely think about. We are overpaying by a very small amount that my spreadsheet shows our 25yr mortgage will only finish 4yrs earlier if we keep up the over payments at the same level. We would need to increase that figure significantly to shave off another 14yrs. How are you doing it?
