My neighbourhood is full of Bees which is why it was my first choice (North East London). But when i played with it I'm the shops it was just too flimsy. Maybe as a second buggy? Went for Cruz and am in love. Also would totally recommend second hand; heard too many stories of 'i wish i didn't spend all that money' etc... And then you can go for better model as it's so affordable. In my opinion at least. I bought a 1 year old buggy for 10% of the shop price... So now can spend more on accessories Grin

natienka · 03/03/2017 07:05

And i second the spreadsheet idea! I might have gone overboard with it but here's what i got in there: daily log of how i feel, appointments, weight etc; all clothes I've got - what sizes and quantities (so it's easier to know what's missing); all other equipment i have and where around the house it is (for now before nursery is ready); nursery design and shopping list, as well as design for baby corner in our bedroom for the first months; hospital bag checklist; buggy reviews; nurseries and schools nearby; birth journal (so i can remember after how it all went)...... Can you tell I'm excited?!!!

bluebird1235 · 03/03/2017 07:21

Mine is similar to that Nat. I love a good sorradsheet! Plus I found myself looking up the same thing over and over as I kept forgetting important stuff. We've also received quite a few things from DH's siblings so I'm keeping a record of that so that I can thank them again when the babies are in/using/wearing whatever it is!

DrewOB0 · 03/03/2017 08:42

Oooh Spreadsheets! I thought I was the only weird ones. I have them for everything :)

Spindelina · 03/03/2017 09:11

Is anyone else getting stitches?

I cycle to work, and the last two days I've had to slow right down because I've had a stitch, quite low on the right hand side. I'm already eating most of my breakfast at work - not sure what else I can do?

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 03/03/2017 11:49

Spindelina I am! I've stopped cycling outside as the roads around here are a bit mental and I've been knocked off a couple of times so it didn't feel worth the risk but I'm cycling inside and getting stitch and breathless really quickly. I get a stitch type feeling down my bump when I walk at the moment too, I think it's ligament pain but I all of a sudden feel extremely unfit!

LuciBee231015 · 03/03/2017 17:29

I don't tend to get stitches when I excercise but did get one the other day when I was walking, from the bottom of my bump right to the top, think it was ligament pain rather than a stitch, but it does feel the same!

So I had 24 week midwife today, bang on 24 weeks. I asked her about movement tracking and she said you don't need to track exactly but just take a mental note of what the baby's patterns tend to be at about 26 weeks i.e. Do they normally move in the morning, evening etc. By 26 weeks they should have a bit of a regular pattern apparently.

I have to book myself in for the whooping cough jab and for more bloods for week 28, then I'm back to see her for week 28 at the end of the month.

Loved listening to baby's heartbeat again, all was good and was actually kicking her Doppler as she was doing it!

I've got the icklebubba travel system. Compatible with maxi cosi, cybex and another brand for when I need bigger car seats.

Spindelina · 03/03/2017 18:48

I've been fine on the way home, which is slightly further to cycle (I walk DD to school on the way there), and up a bigger hill! We'll see what happens next week. Was hoping to keep cycling till at least 30 weeks - I've stopped running so it's the only real aerobic exercise I get. And it's quicker than walking to work.

Notyetthere · 03/03/2017 20:20

Anybody else thought about what kind of clothes for baby we shall need at the beginning. Being summer babies, do we need hats? sleepsuits? I have a pack of vests but no sleepsuits yet. How do you determine what to have baby? I understand mittens are required and maybe a cotton hat to protect from sun.

Those that have started on the nurseries, what type of carpet have you gone for? DH and I have decided to recapped the nursery but we really don't know where to start. We have a carpet right near here and we plan to pop in tomorrow but we really don't know where to start.

OP posts:
Flappergirl86 · 03/03/2017 20:43

You girls are so organised! I have a handful of clothes and 2 bags of nappies. And a vintage pram that won't really do past a few months as it's a carriage one. I'm gonna drag OH out to look at proper prams tomorrow. The idea of looking for nurseries blows my mind. Definitely crossing that bridge when I come to it. We had a 20 week scan yesterday and it was a girl after all ♡

LuciBee231015 · 03/03/2017 21:02

My nursery should be finished by Sunday I'll post a pic so you can see...

I have a couple of packs of short sleeve vests and a couple of packs of long sleeve baby grows and that's it so far... it's hard isn't it! I want to get some sleeping bags, they come in different tog for summer etc and tell you what to wear with them. I have loads of muslin so don't need to get any more of those...

Notyetthere · 03/03/2017 21:36

I also have lots of muslin so I won't be getting anymore of that.

It is tempting to get more clothes but not knowing which size you will starting at makes it tricky. I have seen lots of cute sleepsuits and mother care have a sale on but every time I get to picking a size, I give as I don't know which size to go for.

TinklingTheIvories · 04/03/2017 07:26

Morning all!

Really need to start buying things. I've got nothing except a few free samples. I've been waiting til after the 20 week scan. Just in case. But that's Monday so I can start planning now!

Moving day today, so I won't be on here much for a week or so whilst we wait for the internet.. gotta wait until 17th march!! I'll pop on at work if I can.

Have a good weekend everyone!

rhodes2015 · 04/03/2017 07:47

Good luck with the move tinkling and your 20wk scan!
Arh a girl flapper how exciting!!

not I actually said to my mum that I think I'd find it easier to dress a winter baby than a summer baby!

Oh luci bet you will be glad to get your nursery all finished!
I'm having the mattress for the cotbed delivered at some point today! Another thing I'll be squeezing past in the hallway for a week!

Flappergirl86 · 04/03/2017 07:54

I guess size wise it's best to go bigger if you're not sure. At least then it's guaranteed to fit at some point! Also people like to gift newborn clothes more than anything else so you can probably depend on friends and family providing the first month's wardrobe! X

Spindelina · 04/03/2017 10:48

I'm pretty sure we've got enough newborn stuff stashed away. Some of it is a bit pink and/ or floral, but I don't think it's worth getting blue stuff unless we need to buy anyway. I'll draw the line at dresses though Grin. I think the smallest one of those we've got is a 3-6 month one that got worn to a wedding.

wildone81 · 04/03/2017 12:55

Just a quick heads up for anyone looking for maternity trousers, I've just had these delivered and they are so comfy I've ordered a second pair!

Asos bargain www.asos.com/asos-maternity/asos-maternity-lounge-foldover-pant/prd/6776344?iid=6776344&clr=Black&SearchQuery=&cid=6413&pgesize=27&pge=0&totalstyles=27&gridsize=3&gridrow=6&gridcolumn=2 that should do me for work and at weekends 😀😀

woundedbutwalking · 04/03/2017 13:08

Hello all, new to this threadSmile I'm nearly 22 weeks & due 10/07 just had my whooping cough vaccine and feel absolutely dreadful. 20 week scan was so wonderful still feeling misty eyed about it!!

natienka · 04/03/2017 15:38

Christ! my back is killing me. We ambitiously decided to tackle part of the nursery (all of it will take forever as it's kind of our storage room / music room / additional clothes space / spare bed) and now the WHOLE HOUSE is a disaster zone. It's not physically possible that THIS MUCH STUFF came out of this tiny room. I don't get it!!

On another note, got my hubby to commit to wallpaper the inside of the built in wardrobe, which was always my dream :) hope it will look lovely!

I've got so much stuff already, a lot from my first pregnancy, a lot been given to me, and we also have an amazing neighbourhood sell or swap group so every 3 days I'm going somewhere to pick something up... my haul this week includes a car seat with isofix base, a cot mobile, a gorgeous Missoni onesie (costs £££ -more than anything I own - got it for £8)...

Questions for today:

  1. will you using a sleeping bag for a summer baby? I bought a 2-in-1 which converts from 2.5tog to 1tog which seems perfect but wondering if even that is too much? If not a sleeping bag then what?
  2. Anyone thinking of using cloth nappies? (all in one rather than prefold)
natienka · 04/03/2017 15:41

and one more question as it's driving me up the wall:

  1. a beautiful (ok, nice would be enough) nursing PJs that don't cost over £50? They must exist!
Spindelina · 04/03/2017 17:05

natienka I think it depends on how hot your room gets. Our bedroom isn't too bad, so at its hottest it was about 20 degrees at night with the windows wide open. DD was too small for a sleeping bag to start with, but we moved her into one at about six weeks I think (so end August).

Her bedroom gets stupidly hot, so the next summer she was often in nothing but a nappy!

DrewOB0 · 04/03/2017 17:41

I bought a lot of pregnancy clothes from Asos, apart from length ( very long in me, I'm 5'5) so far they've been great.

Notyetthere · 04/03/2017 20:57

Tinkling good luck with the move. Rhodes yes, that is exactly it. A winter baby you just know what to dress them in. Summer is another problem.

Dh and I have had a busy day. Not the way we had planned it though. Dh and FIL painted the nursery in the morning, then we went to the carpet shop to buy one for the nursery. Being our first time ever buying carpet, we were shocked to find that you could only buy it in lengths so for the price we would end up with almost the same amount leftover from carpeting the box room. The carpet shop man then suggested we could use the left over piece as a rug! Hmm. We want a a rug but not the same as the carpet. Anyway, we have decided to finish the painting and put the old one back in. There is nothing wrong with it, we just wanted a different colour and thicker. Oh well. We then went to the sofa and bought a sofa instead. Our current one is pretty old and very uncomfortable. I decided I couldn't spend the whole of my maternity leave, breast feeding (if I'm successful) on our current sofa. Also bought a changing mat in a mustard yellow colour from M&Ps using the £10 voucher from their baby event. I never thought I would get excited by changing mat.
