mcnics · 06/03/2017 21:36

Just dropping in as been a bit quiet! Now 22+5 and the bump is definitely present now. OH has been able to feel our little one loads over the last couple of weeks which he is ecstatic about, such a lovely feeling getting to share it with someone. Still suffering from leaky boob syndrome though so had to invest in some lovely breast pads! 😂

Been a bit mental - had an offer accepted on a house and have a provisional exchange date of the end of May, when it will be all systems go to ensure we are in and settled (mostly!) before he decides to make an appearance!

Had an offer of a cot, some baby clothes, changing mat and car seat from some friends of ours which is amazing and OH's parents have bought us our pram so we actually feel like we are getting a little bit more organised now.

Couple of questions:

  1. has anyone got a comprehensive list of what is needed ready for the arrival? Such rookies at this!

  2. I have 3 weddings and 2 hen dos to go to this year and I cannot find ANY nice formal maternity dresses! Has anyone else found anything nice? Tried the high street and their online stores with no luck!

Seahawk80 · 07/03/2017 06:30

mcnics I have a great list that my sister sent me with links and recommendations if you pm me your email I can send it to you (same to anyone else who wants it).

Maybe try eBay for some nice maternity stuff. I was really lucky as my sister gave me loads of clothes, including a lovely dress that she bought for my wedding so only had to buy a few bits but if I hadn't had that I would have looked on eBay rather than buy something for a fortune that I'd only wear once or twice.

Flappergirl86 · 07/03/2017 07:43

mcnics asos is an absolute Godsend for formal maternity wear and they often have amazing stuff in the sale as well. I just got a mint green chiffon 1950s style number on there for £15. No idea where I'm gonna wear it as we have no weddings to attend during the summer but I couldn't just leave it there... maybe it can be my labour outfit. I'll get Vice magazine to come and do an ironic live birth photoshoot or something.

DrewOB0 · 07/03/2017 08:18

What are you packing for labour " outfit" on that matter? T shirt and nursing bra?

Mawita · 07/03/2017 08:34

Hi all!

Had my 20 week scan last week baby is well and healthy. Took ages and a lot of proding to see everything. We are having a baby boy! My heart was hoping for a girl. But as soon as I knew it was a boy I fell in love!

not great tips on the car seat re warranty, I am getting the same one as you, my difficulty is that i have a Mini Cooper with no ISO fix. Getting in and out of the car is going to be interesting, in fact my other half got so worried he has devised an arm excersice routine for me as I can barely lift the car seat. Not sure if it is pregnancy or general upper arm weakness...

Nappy library sounds great so thanks for that tip too!

Lucky my baby will inherit a lot from his cousin. I have a cot, high chair, 2 buggy's, changing table, changing mats, nappy bags, a truck full of baby clothes barely worn (my nephew was 9:5 pounds) and a bottle maker!. So we just need a car seat and I am set on having a cosleeper my sil says I don't need one but I like the idea of them anyone else? I liked the Chico next to me but web the to the baby show and found the cozee, also on the hunt for a cool bouncer and a baby gym.

I am loving the 20 week stage except for the coxis pain so have been referred to physio.

And have become addicted to One born every minute, it makes water births look fab, do you think it isn't just for TV?

Happy week everyone!

Spindelina · 07/03/2017 09:39

I've got a light cotton wrap dressing gown thing which worked really well for DD. Things to think about

  • it'll probably be really hot
  • you need to be able to get a blood pressure cuff on easily round your upper arm
  • you need to be able to get a tocograph on easily round your middle
LuciBee231015 · 07/03/2017 10:42

Our nursery is complete!! Just need a black out blind and we're done! It looks amazing, I find myself just standing in there.

I have ordered my Moses basket and stand now, that should come next week. Then the last big spend will be the baby monitor. I want the angelcare movement sound and video monitor.

Then I just need a few bits of clothing to start us off, some blankets and that's it's really. We have everything else...I think!

For labour I was just thinking a lightweight nightie to pack in my hospital bag.

I've bought myself a mama TENS machine from ebay too, got some new pads for it. DH tried it out and was hilarious!

I'm also totally addicted to one born every minute!! I literally watch at least one every night!

Notyetthere · 07/03/2017 12:32

Luci wow! I hope to join you soon with regards to finishing the nursery. I can't wait to see a photo of the finished room so that I can steal all your ideas Grin.

DH finished the painting yesterday and removed the masking tape last night. All he now has to do is relay the carpet and put up the new blinds. I will then put the ikea chest of drawers together in there as DH hates flat pack. We already have a built in wardrobe so we can start to put baby's stuff away. We will probably have the cotbed in there next month but it is actually not really required yet as we have the snuzpod and we wont be using the drawer attached underneath anytime soon so no rush there.

As for baby's clothes, I think we now have enough to start with and we shall buy the rest after baby's arrival. We have about 8 short sleeved bodysuits, 6 longsleeved ones, 7 sleepsuits, 5 pairs of mittens, 6 pairs of socks, 4 cotton hats, lots of muslins (large and small) and 1 cellular blanket. All clothes in newborn or 0-3 months.

All we need now is the car seat and a way to feed baby.

Spin thanks for the tips. I will pop into primark to see what they have. If I ruin them then I am not too fussed. Apart from that, I have not thought about my hospital bag yet.

Mawita glad scan went well and baby is doing well. I also don't have an isofix base so it will have to be the seat belt round the car seat. I am actually not too fussed about carrying the car seat. I will take baby out the car seat and carried into the house or put in pram. Baby might wake up but then so be it; I am not in the position to fuss.

As for cosleeper, we went for the snuzpod as it was slightly narrower than chicco next to me and matched our bedroom furniture. We bought ours from ebay. I will leave the bouncer and baby gym to DH to source. He likes that kind of thing.

It's a box room so pretty tiny in there with the furniture, but I love it! Pic attached.

I'm going to to out next payday and get the rest of my clothes and a changing bag I think...

I've got my whooping cough jab tomorrow lunchtime, not looking fw to that.

I'm 25 weeks on Friday, I can't believe it!

Luci that looks fab! Loving the grey wall paper with the stars. We have gone for a grey accent wall with rest white. We will put up a tree decal with animals on the grey wall. Love the chandelier too.

OP posts:
LuciBee231015 · 07/03/2017 14:14

Oh the chandelier was already in there I was going to buy another light! I'm loving grey at the moment and any colour should go with it.

rhodes2015 · 07/03/2017 15:25

Congratulations on finding out you are having a baby boy mawita!!

Room Looks amazing luci!
Furniture is lovely!

I love grey at the moment too, We have painted grey with a grey carpet going in on Saturday, I can't wait ...I'm tired of squeezing past the baby's furniture in our bedroom now!

Lallypopstick · 07/03/2017 15:32

Love the bedroom Luci and good news for everyone who has had scans the last day or so.

I really hope my OH sorts the garage this week so we can make a start on the baby bedroom. And then I can eventually share photos of mine - probably in September at this rate - at least we have a Snuzpod!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 07/03/2017 15:47

Luci looks great! I'm reassured to see other rooms coming together, we are halfway through sorting ours and I felt like we were doing it too early. It's nice to be able to get everything in one place.

Notyetthere · 07/03/2017 16:22

Thumbs you have described it perfectly. I also like looking at other peoples nurseries which is why I was stalking the Due May thread a couple of weeks ago; they have almost all finished theirs and are sharing photos. It is the feeling of reassurance.

OP posts:
mynameisntLinda · 07/03/2017 16:26

dropping in, been quiet just coz I don't get chance to get on the computer much (and i find the mumsnet app a bit hit and miss, which is why i'm just in the facebook group mainly)

21+2 I think now, bad mummy not been good at keeping track. we know we're having a girl, she wasn't cooperating though so back next week for another shot at getting spine measrements but at least I get another sneaky peak at her.

luci love the grey look in that room!

poor baby won't be getting a nursery, at best she'll be sharing a room with her bro but prob not until 8 months or so coz she'll still be in the chicco attached to our bed until then (it's a lot bigger than a moses basket)

Mawita one born is banned in our house, has been since I was preggo the first time. It really scared me, with everyone screaming and grunting and stuff lol. I'm planning a water birth again coz it was bloody lovely (and not messy to clear up as DH had feared lol), i fear that if i had a hospital birth i'd get there and there would be no pools free and i'd cry haha.

drew labour outfit...last time i planned a bikini top...ended up naked haha. Think I'm going to get a cotton dressing gown this time coz I was really hot after labour and only had my thick wooly dressing gown oops. i'm thinking a tankini top this time and some baggy pyjama bottoms to put on afterwards with some Bridget Jones style knickers underneath to hold in the gigantic maternity pads lol

Spindelina · 07/03/2017 16:47

myname I was catheterised last time - was glad I had a nightie and not PJs! Had to get DH to bring in one of my maternity maxi dresses to go home in.

LuciBee231015 · 07/03/2017 17:04

So if the may group are only just finishing nurserys we are early then! I just like to feel prepared. Don't want to be running around doing things in the last few weeks, I want to chill by then.

That's exactly what I was thinking, a lightweight nightie and a maxi dress to go home in with some nice big pants!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 07/03/2017 18:20

Luci I agree, given I have no experience being heavily pregnant I'd rather have everything done early than be trying to get stuff sorted when I'm tired and uncomfortable and whatever else I'm feeling later on!

Notyetthere · 07/03/2017 19:48

Luci the May thread have mostly finished theirs. I am reading a few hundred posts back on theirs so not quite recent. Their thread moves fast though. They are a chatty bunch. BTW if you are wondering why I always wander on to their thread, it's bse I once was a 'due May' and had started to really bond with them but I then I had a miscarriage. Just by default I like to see how they are progressing and great to see them getting well, and I also get the idea of what it's going to be like for us in a month or two. But yes, like you, I want dh and I to get the heavy jobs out of the way while bump is still relatively small and I'm more mobile. I want to just relax in the last few weeks. I might get a few spa visits in-between.

OP posts:
Spindelina · 07/03/2017 19:53

Notyet I was on the Nov 16 thread for a while, and I popped back too, esp when it was actually Nov 16! I totally get that. (Also March 17, but I only posted a few times on that thread. Might pop in there and see, what's going on, actually.)

CatRash · 07/03/2017 20:46

You lot are so organised! I'm very impressed! I'm starting to think I need to stop my 'winging it' approach to life and start getting more organised!

On that note I've made a spreadsheet of the essentials I need to buy.

It's a scary list Shock

In other news I appear to be turning into a barrell with legs. I'm not sure if it's because I'm short or what but my entire torso - under boobs to hips - has turned into one giant bump!!!

19+5 today and starting to feel more and more movement. Can't wait to feel it on the outside too so DH can have a feel.

DrewOB0 · 07/03/2017 20:49

I can't believe after 20 week scan , we won't see the baby again until delivery. It's still so far away!
