Not saying you have to be obese to have the test! Just that I probably would be flagged to have it but no one has mentioned it

glitterglitters · 14/04/2017 09:15

Please don't worry @thumbsupforthesixbillion I wasn't 100% when I had mine anyway and tbh I hadn't drunk enough water prior. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I think my bmi is definitely over 30 but in my area I'm not on the "higher end" so considered a low risk. I've not been weighed or weighed myself since 6 weeks.
🙊

glitterglitters · 14/04/2017 09:17

As for bmi when dh was training for the marines he was fit, healthy and barely an ounce of fat on him. He was deemed "morbidly obese" sooooo I don't hold much faith in that scale. I'm certainly bigger but I'm also a lot healthier than some of my skinnier peers. Smile

ButterflyFree · 14/04/2017 09:32

I think they decide whether the GTT test is necessary based on the glucose levels in your regular urine samples taken at previous midwife appointments...

And yes, BMI can be very misleading - measuring body fat % is far more relevant.

nat2311 · 14/04/2017 09:41

I had to have it as my bmi makes me obese. I think the worse bit was drinking original lucozade that quickly I'd forgotten how horrible it tastes and then had to sit in the waiting room for 2 hours full of gas!

Seahawk80 · 14/04/2017 09:42

After my 12 week scan results gave me 1/13 for all 3 trisonomies and my bmi says I'm obese I've decided I just don't fit into the standard NHS matrices!!

Notyetthere · 14/04/2017 10:02

Sea thanks for the heads up. We had our eye on the red maxi cosi cabriofix so will check and see if they have it on sale too. We are waiting for the release of new uppababy vista 2017 to buy the rest of the travel system. A chat on their website mentioned a release in late spring.

Thumbs I am sure you will be alright during your GTT. Different people respond differently. I had the GTT on Monday morning. Tbh it wasn't to bad for me. I drank lots of water throughout the night and in the morning leading up to the test because it had been difficult to get blood from me at my 12 week scan due to dehydration; all my veins had collapsed. The sugary drink didn't make me feel too bad either. I had a banana after the test and then went to ikea for meatballs and mashed potatoes. I was back to normal by 4pm.

My bmi is 33 which I think is the cut off point here in my health Trust. They said that I would only hear from them the next day if something was wrong. No calls from the hospital since so I will assume all is ok.

28+6 today. My belly feels like it is starting to get stretched/tight. I don't think I will escape stretch marks but I have already reconciled myself to that fact. They run in the family. I am moisturising it lots and the skin on my belly has never looked so good like it does now.

We have practically finished our nursery. We bought the mattress yesterday as it was going half price on Mothercare's website. All dh now wants to do is get a tree wall decal to stick to one of the walls. I have had this week off so I have washed all the baby clothes and I have to say there somethng cute about watching baby grows, muslin and blankets on the washing line. I have now folded them away into wardrobe and drawers in the nursery. My mum kindly bought us cotbed linen, hooded towels and even a couple of maternity dresses. If you happen to pop into ikea, there hooded towels are lovely and thick, better than the ones I have seen in mothercare and M&S.

We can't get anymore baby clothes until baby is here. The same for nappies and wipes, we don't know which ones she will react to so we can't stock up on those either.

Seahawk80 · 14/04/2017 10:09

@Notyetthere what made you decide on the cabriofix rather than the pebble? Am just curious. We actually have a red cabriofix from our friends but it's quite old and scummy and they'd lost the newborn insert, I looked at it yesterday and decided we should buy a new one. The man from John Lewis got to me with his hard sell on the safety!

CatRash · 14/04/2017 12:04

I think my local midwife centre does the GTT as standard. Guess it depends on whereabouts you live! It doesn't involve fasting for long though - think it's just an hour before hand or something. Need to book it in actually!

We'll be decorating the nursery this weekend too! Carpet should go in next weekend :)

Notyetthere · 14/04/2017 12:06

Sea we are having the cabriofix because it is the one that comes with adaptors for the uppababy vista. In fact there are other brands that go with the vista but we haven't actually looked into them. Yet. We have seen a black cabriofix in the real life in John Lewis but maybe we should looks at all the others too.

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 14/04/2017 12:18

GTT all finished, definitely the worst thing was drinking the lucozade and feeling really gassy!

Seahawk80 · 14/04/2017 12:18

I think the adaptors for maxi cosi are pretty universal. I haven't done any research to be fair my sister just told me I should get a pebble!

glitterglitters · 14/04/2017 21:34

Is anybody else having massive urges to make drastic changes to your appearance? I'm well and truly in nesting mode and my latest "thing" is I want to dye my naturally brunette hair blonde. Obviously I'd go to a reputable salon and I know that dye will behave differently to normal, but it just seems like a big drastic thing to do at this point. 😂

ButterflyFree · 14/04/2017 21:55

@glitterglitters I'm toying with the idea of dyeing my hair for the very first time in my life too...! Actually not my full head - just a dip-dye effect - as I'm planning to cut my hair to shoulder length (it's currently to the small of my back when straight) just before giving birth. So I thought of doing something drastic as a last hurrah before the baby comes, and the best thing is that I won't be damaging my hair because I'm planning to chop it off anyway. I was thinking to do a crazy colour like this pastel blue, just because I can...!

Due July 2017 #4 …… Well into 2nd Trimester! 20 Week Scans and Bumps Galore
TinklingTheIvories · 14/04/2017 22:04

@glitterglitters my drastic hair change is to keep it natural! I'm normally one for experimenting with mad colours but I've left it natural brown for a while. Just don't feel like changing it at the moment

glitterglitters · 15/04/2017 07:47

Omg @ButterflyFree that's gorgeous. Do it!!! And @TinklingTheIvories haha love it. I realllly want either my little pony hair or secret rainbow hair if I'm honest but the upkeep would just be hideous with a baby.

I'm going grey now anyway so it can't really hurt too much. Only thing is the salon I want to go to I think it'll be about £200 😱😱😱😱 I'm a very dark brunette naturally

LuciBee231015 · 15/04/2017 10:09

Hi ladies, 30 + 1 here! Feeling tired today, had a wedding all day yesterday and feel like I was out on the booze all day! About to start the cleaning, dreading the backache after but needs to be done!

glitterglitters · 15/04/2017 16:00

Argh I'm exhausted. I started going through my clothes and I'm currently laying on our bed which is covered.

I've managed four bags full for charity so far. I even found bras that I reckon were pre 2000 🙊
Also clothes in a size 8 (I'm about a 16 now)

Think it was past due but now I'm knackered but have started so need to finish or we can't sleep in our bed 😫😫😫😫

natienka · 15/04/2017 16:17

Butterfly to give you another idea, when I cut my hair from waist to a bob, by putting them in 4 braids first I was then able to donate them to a charity making wigs for women with cancer x

Notyetthere · 15/04/2017 23:54

Luci hope the cleaning went well and that you weren't in agony. I also had a busy day today. I prepared dinner for 7 as most of the family will be out tomorrow and dh at work. I cooked a full on roast dinner. I love entertaining the family for meals/bbq but I did worry that I might not have the stamina to do it. I used a maternity support belt during the food prep and I think it worked well. I didn't have any lower back pain and bump was well supported; almost like the belt cradled the bump. I think I will be using it more often while pottering about the house. I hope to do lots of batch cooking at the beginning of maternity leave if baby is not early.

We received the cotbed mattress just before dinner and in all the excitement dh and I disappeared off for 5 mins, unwrapped the mattress and made the bed. Fitted bedsheet with blanket. The whole lot! Grin. It was nice to get away briefly from everyone; such a special moment for us both. At exactly 29 weeks today, not long before we meet our little princess. She won't be using the cotbed yet as we will have the snuzpod but her room is NE facing so during very hot days it is the coolest room in our house so she will nap in there and probably sleep in there if our room(SW facing) is too hot.

ButterflyFree · 16/04/2017 11:48

Thanks @natienka Yes it's a lovely idea and I'm already planning to do that :)

Had my 25 week appointment and scan this morning - my OB-GYN was laughing at how active baby was; he wouldn't keep still and she could barely get a good picture of him! All is progressing perfectly so that's great news. Booked in for the GTT test on 14th May when I'll be 29 weeks. They've told me I have to fast completely for 8 hours before though, so that won't be much fun.

After taking a blood sample today (I have to routinely check my thyroid levels) I guess I must have stood up from the chair too fast, because I suddenly got a massive head rush and fainted! Best place to do it is in a hospital I suppose, but it was still rather unpleasant for a few minutes.

Crisscrosscranky · 16/04/2017 11:51

Hi all, I'm 27+3, due 13th July and I've already had enough Hmm. This is my second pregnancy but everything seems much harder this time; I'm sure I have SPD which I will be talking to midwife about when I see her next. We're about to embark on some quite significant building work at home which is due to be completed the week I'm due so we haven't bought anything other than a car seat...! Stressed is not the word!

glitterglitters · 16/04/2017 12:14

Oh @Crisscrosscranky that sucks. I definitely agree the second time seems to be horrid compared to the first. If it helps we had an entire former loft conversion, in winter, when I was pg with my first. It was horrid but it was ok.

Definitely get the car seat sorted if you can. You can tick at least one stress off your list then.

Plus we're all here to rant at 😊

Crisscrosscranky · 16/04/2017 12:30

@glitterglitters that's what's we're doing- going from a two bed bungalow to a three bedroom house with a change of layout downstairs too... builders have given us the mythical 12 week timeline (I think it'll be double that!).

Am working until 38+2 to try and avoid as much of the mess as I can!

Lallypopstick · 17/04/2017 09:20

I've just filled in an enquiry form for Waterbabies, even though there's 3 months to go until I'm due!
