@lallypopstick I never washed any of ds1 newbotn stuff and I won't be doing this time either to be honest. I'm not creating extra work for myself

glitters I haven't packed one yet and prob won't until about 35 weeks. It's only going to have bare essentials in coz I'm planning baby at home but when I was transferred in last time there were things I'd missed out of the bag like a bloomin charger! Will defo pack an emergency bag just in case this time instead of trying to think what to take when I've just given birth haha.

Booked and paid for birth photographer and new born photographer Grin so excited. Anyone else thinking of photographers? I had bounty ones last time and they were lovely but if I don't end up in hospital I might not get them so decided to book an actual photographer.

glitterglitters · 19/04/2017 10:05

I reallllllllly want to have a newborn photo shoot @mynameisntLinda but where we didn't get it for #1 dh says it's unfair.

Tempted to do it on the sly GrinWink

LuciBee231015 · 19/04/2017 10:17

Yes I've booked a photographer! There was someone local doing an offer a while back so I booked in!

ButterflyFree · 19/04/2017 11:28

Thank you @Flappergirl86 @Seahawk80 @rhodes2015 @Notyetthere for the well wishes 💐 hopefully the upped dosage will make a difference to my energy levels. Still forced myself to go to prenatal Pilates last night, and I'm glad I did because I felt a great sense of satisfaction after the class even though it was tougher to get through than usual. Suffering today though!!

@LuciBee231015 Your 4D scan pic is lovely 😍 I felt the same when we had our surprise one at 20 weeks - everything suddenly felt more real. I'll book another one for 30 weeks, just before we travel. We want to see our little man again; too impatient!!

I hadn't thought about booking a newborn photo shoot but that does sound like a nice idea. DH is a good photographer as a hobby but we still don't know if he'll even be able to make it to the birth due to his work commitments overseas... Actually the more I think about the uncertainty surrounding where he'll be at the time of me delivering, the more panicked I start to feel 😩

TinklingTheIvories · 19/04/2017 11:47

I'm thinking of a bump to baby photoshoot, so I'll get some time in front of the camera around 32-36 weeks and then within 6 weeks the baby has their photoshoot. I've had a couple of photo shoots done so far a few years ago, but love them! I'm not normally camera shy but normally not too fussed about the attention. There's something about an actual photographer doing it that I love though.

Finished the first (and possibly hardest) mural just. (See pic) Took two days to complete, but I've also done bits on the others. They will hopefully be finished later this evening/first thing tomorrow. I love being off at the moment - these two weeks easter break have been very productive nursery wise.Smile

Due July 2017 #4 …… Well into 2nd Trimester! 20 Week Scans and Bumps Galore
mynameisntLinda · 19/04/2017 13:11

glitters what about a sibling one then? That's kinda the reason I've booked new born photographer because ds1 had them so can't have poor number 2 without lol
Gonna be odd having a birth photographer but I'm hoping she can capture some lovely in the moment pics. Bought a new bikini for the occasion lol
butterfly I'm sure dh could take some lovely ones whenever he's back. Would you not like a doula or something if dh can't be there? Doulas aren't everyone's cup of tea. I think is be happy birthing with just the midwife although I'd prob fine it tough in a hospital coz I get anxious in them anyway and they'd have to leave you to see to other people. When will you get to find out if he'll be home?

ButterflyFree · 19/04/2017 13:30

@mynameisntLinda I'll definitely have my mum with me, which I prefer over the idea of a doula. I know some people who have had great experiences with doulas but for me I don't really see the point to be honest.

It all depends on whether baby arrives early (as tends to be the case in our families), on time or late... and how fast the labour develops! My due date is 29th July, DH will be with me in London until 10th July, then has to go back to Dubai until 15th to start pre-season training and then from 16th July until 30th August he & his teammates will be in a training camp somewhere in Europe (probably Hungary or Germany, but not yet confirmed). His coach will let him leave for 2-3 days as soon as I go into labour, but logistically it's just whether he would be able to fly to London in time to actually be there for the birth. So we won't know until it all starts happening I guess!

mynameisntLinda · 19/04/2017 14:01

Oh wow. So really you'd need baby here by 10th. Good that he can leave for a couple of days. Nice that you'll have your mum though. Never even thought of someone like that haha.
I wouldn't fancy a doula myself but I have considered training to be one along with being a hypnobirthing practioner but not sure I'll ever actually get round to it.

ButterflyFree · 19/04/2017 14:18

Yes I suppose I would have to deliver by 37 weeks to absolutely guarantee that DH would be there - any time after that it'll be a frantic rush for him to get on a flight as soon as my contractions start! The good thing is that we organised a 10-year UK visa for him after we got married, so he's not subjected to the usual 48hr pre-flying visa waiver that UAE nationals otherwise need to fill out in order to enter the UK.

Something else I'm having to do at the moment is get our marriage certificate translated and legalised by both the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the British Consulate so that it will be officially recognised in the UK. That way I'll be able to guarantee DH's name is included on baby's birth certificate whether he's around for the birth registration or not.

I haven't actually looked into hypnobirthing or doulas or any kind of birth plan at all - is that really short-sighted of me?! I'm not too concerned about the whole giving birth process; perhaps because I have a high pain threshold and am a pretty calm person by nature, plus my mother had a wonderful experience of birth (just with gas & air) and she's always told me since I was very young not to be 'freaked out' by the idea of it, and certainly not to take the way giving birth is depicted in movies as an accurate portrayal! I know it's a different experience for everyone but right now I'm feeling quite laid back about it. The main thing for me was booking into the private wing at the hospital I wanted, so I know I'll be comfortable in my surroundings.

Kitsandkids · 19/04/2017 17:08

My mum has always scoffed a bit at the women (on TV) who scream while giving birth. She said she never felt the need to scream, just grunted a bit with exertion. I'm hoping I'll be the same! She had gas and air in her first labour, which made her feel sick, and nothing in her second as it was so quick. I'll aim to have nothing and see how it goes!

Does anyone have any recommendations for car seats that lie flat? I didn't know such a thing existed until I read another thread. That would be very helpful for us so that we could go on longer journeys to relatives without having to stop every 20 minutes, as is recommended these days. But all the ones I've seen after a quick Google are really expensive! Has anyone heard of a good one that's a bit cheaper?!

Notyetthere · 19/04/2017 22:15

Kits sadly they all cost a bit more than normal ones and not many on the market.

As for us, it looks like some UK stores have started the uppababy vista 2017. It seems to be the smaller more independent shops like Groovystyle baby equipment, pramworld and Discount baby equipment. I am assuming the big shops like Mothercare and John Lewis will stock them at some point when their massive order book is finally ready which could take a while. I am more tempted to get it now from the smaller shops as the warranty is the same as the big shops anyway. Hmmmm things to think about.

OP posts:
BakerJ · 19/04/2017 23:57

Evening all,
I've been following along with you all but thought I'd check in.
28 weeks and struggling to sleep after having my anti-D jab today, was expecting it to be a normal jab in the arm but it was in the top of the bum cheek instead! Now a little sore!

kits I wanted a lie flat car seat too as we live an 8 hr drive away from family so the trip would be a nightmare if we had to stop every 30mins! Went for the kiddy evoluna in the end as it's i size compliant and a lot of the others can only do lie flat position on the pram, not in the car.
I got 10% off but it was still a lot more expensive than a normal seat, just hoping we get enough use out of it to be worth it.

Seahawk80 · 20/04/2017 07:37

Hi baker I have my anti D tomorrow - dreading it! I've already had one after my cvs and it was horrid so I know how you feel. Mine is at 3.15 so I think true hospital will def be running late as far as work are concerned so that I don't have to go back!

glitterglitters · 20/04/2017 07:53

Lol @CatRash your other thread is making me so hungry. I want a steak 😂🤤

MamaTT · 20/04/2017 08:06

I had to go in to the maternity ward last night after a fairly substantial bleed. All is fine and baby girl is happy as a pig in poo in there. I had treatment for precancerous cervical cells a few years ago and the scar tissue is struggling a bit under the pressure of growing baby. They're not overly concerned but every time it happens I have to have anti D 😭 I've got to go back in today for it. Since when was it in the arse cheek though?! Back in the day when I had DC1&2 it was in the leg. Already had a very beautiful male doctor rummaging around my va-jay-jay in the last 12 hours. Not keen on flashing my arse cheek to the poor sod too.

glitterglitters · 20/04/2017 08:08

Oh @MamaTT what a ball ache. Glad to hear baby is fine though. Bit cheeky for them to switch up the area, especially with a handsome doc#sodbloodylaw

LuciBee231015 · 20/04/2017 08:58

@mamatt what a worry, glad all is ok though! Rest up and take it easy girl! Must have frightened the life out of you.

For the chat about car seats, I thought they could be in a car seat for no longer than 2 hours. Surely 20-30 mins is a bit over the top. I'd have to stop and get baby out of the car on most journeys to anywhere if that was the case?!

Past 2 nights have managed a decent-ish sleep. I have 4 pillows in total. 2 under my head, one between the legs and then one against my body supporting my bump and allowing me something to hug! My dreamgenii pregnancy pillow isn't cutting the mustard anymore, DH has taken ownership of it instead 😂

natienka · 20/04/2017 09:04

I have a lie flat one from Britax - Babysafe Sleeper I think. you can still buy it in a couple shops but they stopped producing it. I did email customer service to check it's still safe, they said absolutely they are just not doing that model anymore. Get a used one if you have a reliable source and are confident of no accidents.

glitterglitters · 20/04/2017 09:08

@LuciBee231015 it's more recent research but tbh I think it's all a bit scaremongering. We're going to a wedding in Scotland when the baby is about 10 weeks old. We'll be stopping every couple of hours (split over two days). It's like when you see people using the travel systems in town with the car seat etc.

glitterglitters · 20/04/2017 09:12

Not saying the results aren't true but more it's he most extreme version and to use common sense.

BakerJ · 20/04/2017 12:45

Glad to hear everything is ok mama, starting to wonder if my midwife was just having a laugh giving the antiD in the bum cheek then...I just assumed that was normal!

mynameisntLinda · 20/04/2017 15:24

@butterflyfree no i wouldn't say it was shortsighted at all. I actually think a "birth plan" is generally a bad idea. I think a plan is way to optimistic., A list of preferences might be handy like do you want to be offered pain relief, or would you rather they let you request it, do you want a managed third stage, injection for placenta or natural delivery? Do you want to breast feed etc. Just so the MW knows what you'd like.
I read Hypnobirthing by Marie Mongan first time round which made total sense and made me very excited for labour rather than dreading it. I've got one by Katherine Graves this time but not actually read it. Maybe i'm being a bit laid back but I don't feel I need to read another book, i'm just brushing up on my relaxation.

Re car seats, guidelines used to say 2 hours was ok. I've seen some but I didn't like that it was across the back seat as i'm not sure on safety tests etc and couldn't find much when I looked. e.g if you were in an accident baby (or baby's head at least) is going to be thrown side to side rather than the impact being taken by the surrounding seat and the force being spread out around it's back. (not sure if that even makes sense but I know what I mean haha)
This lists the 6 best rated ones if you want a lie flat one (although this site also says 2 hours for normal car seats too)
www.madeformums.com/reviews-and-shopping/6-best-lie-flat-car-seats-from-birth/31770.html
If you're worried about baby's breathing and you're not driving you could always sit in the back?
I don't think we'd fit a lie flat seat in the car along with the other child seat (and the poor dog definitely wouldn't have any space haha so it's not an option for us)

Glad everything ok mama total pita (and not just the antiD injections haha)

mynameisntLinda · 20/04/2017 15:26

By the way, if anyone wants to join the private, closed, facebook group for this thread just drop me a message with your name and i'll add you as a friend and can then add to the group (don't worry, you can unfriend me afterwards, I wont take offence ;) . I think there's 26 or so of us in there at the moment.

glitterglitters · 20/04/2017 16:22

I spoke too soon. Different midwife as mine was poorly. Glucose was +2 and she didn't have the correct vials for a glucose blood. Cue having to go the maternity unit and have bloods taken 😭 hopefully it's a knock on effect of eating loads of junk last night/being poorly in the night. I reallllllly don't want to have to go to the big hospital

Seahawk80 · 20/04/2017 16:28

@BakerJ my last anti d was in the bum - I'll let you know where they do it tomorrow!
